[Q] Help in custom rom - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to customize cm7 before flashing it? Like deleting adw and putting go launcher or something like that. Ive tried it before but i cant figure out how to sign(?) the zip again. Any help is thanked.

You can delete ADW out of system/app before flashing the rom. I'm assuming go launcher is meant to be run as a user app (like anything from the market), so I'm not sure what you would need to modify, and where, to have it installed by default. Also, you might want to toggle off signature verification in your recovery.
To me it sounds like more effort than just using root explorer to delete ADW and installing go launcher from the market after flashing. But to each his own.

So i dont need to sign it?

If you toggle signature verification off in recovery, I don't believe so.

How would i sign it?

If you're using something like 7zip (or betterzip for mac) to modify the rom zip, I don't think you would need to re-sign it, especially if you toggle signature verification off in recovery. I don't really know the procedure for signing roms, but I'm sure some googling could net you good results.

[Q] Power control widget question?

A simple question, but I just can't seem to find the answer. I put the power control widget on my home screen. Now, how do I get back to its menu so I can add/remove functions? I tried throwing it out and then putting it back, but it just comes back up with the same 5 functions. Is there a way to clear the default? Thanks.
I am curious what the answer to that question is as well.
I don't think you can choose what you want in 2.1. (You can do it in 2.2)They just come in a set.
Correct me if I was wrong.
I went back and checked out my rooted MYT3G, I think you are right. Unless someone has figured out how to put the 2.2 power widget into a 2.1 rom. I think that would be pretty awesome. I miss that functionality on my Vibrant.
I think Power Widget is "Settings.apk" So try installing that. I know that GenieWidget and GoogleVoice work fine....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731625
download from the thread or try getting the apk from CM6 ADDON (thats what i did)
Sweet, going to check that out now.

trying what ? to install settings.apk ?
^ dropping it in system/app caused constant reboots.
I had to boot into stock recovery, then go into clockwork and finally restore a nandroid.
I would be careful using the linked post above. I have already replaced some stock apps from cyanogen, this is the first that gave me any issue.

U always have to be carefull
I havent tried settings.apk, but I would just install it using file manager. Thats how I got clock, geniewidget, and google voice working. Used files from cm.
^ The power widget is a system app, you don't install, you just drop it in system/app. The News/Weather and Google Voice are just apps...
I renamed the original Settings.apk and Settings.odex and then dropped the new Settings.apk from a Cyanogen rom in to /system/app/.
No go, I ended up having to restore the original files back.
Oh well, I tried.
there's a power widget in the market (non-free) that has the same look as the standard power widget, but has more options and lets you customize it. i haven't used it, but it sounds like it would work for ya.
i just looked it up -- it's called 'Power Widget by BK Mobility'.
Thanks, I actually found that app this morning after I made the post here. Am liking it. It works very well.

[Q] Accidentally uninstalled stock clock application

So.
Being a new android user, I messed around with my phone without a full understanding of what would happen if i uninstalled a core application. I assumed incorrectly that Titanium Backup would allow me to reinstall applications, and then uninstalled the stock clock application thinking that it was one of the many clock widgets.
Could someone upload their stock Clock application apk here, or advise me as to how I can restore the stock clock (preferably without having to flash the original ROM)?

Here. I backup all of the apk that I want to remove. Hope this is what you want.
Is this the stock clock application, like the one used for alarms and such?
EDIT: I attempted to install ClockPackage.apk anyway by using Root explorer, and then moving the apk to /system/app and installing it from there, but it says 'Application not installed.' Am I doing something wrong?

This is for clock, alarm, stopwatch etc. Put the apk on the root of your sd card and install from there. Don have to move it to system/app.

LOL YOU DID THE SAME THING AS ME. (except no one bothered to reply to my cries for help and I had to figure out everything myself)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070083
1)keep your clockpackage.apk in system/apps
2)download this .odex file
3)put the file in system/apps, remember to mount r/w in rootexplorer to enable pasting it in there, then mount r/o when finished
4)turn phone off.
5)turn phone on.
Mmmm, same here but I lost the weather widget due to samsung app update. Any one!

Did you add the odex file as explained above?
Yes i followed the guide as described. I have the odex and apk in system/apps folder. Funny, another clock widget im using is showing my next alarm.. but no alarmclock..
Followed the guide above, apk and odex showing in app system/app but still not available anywhere on the phone.
Anyone recommend a third party clockpackage from the market?
Used sgstools to kill my clock so used it to reinstall it to.
added a extra script,
echo "this will reverse the klok hack"
busybox cp -f /sdcard/sgstools/ClockPackage.apk /system/app/
(you might have to remove it fist if you have been messing around to get it working again)
I did the what the above guide said and could not find the app in the application menu. Help!
will reloading the stock firmware fix this issue?

I did the same thing, but when i restart my phone, the clock in not in the app drawer, when i go to TB, it is there, but with a line through it and it won't restore, all attempts to install the apk is failing too... what can i do?
The link for the odex file is down. Also, I'm trying to get this app working on CM7. Is that doable? I love CM, but a couple of the samsung apps are miles beyond what comes with Cyanogenmod - namely the clock, and the camera. I understand I can't swap the camera app, having looked into it, and I'm ok with that. The clock, however... I gotta have my samsung clock back!
Parse Error
I managed to get the ClockPackage.apk and the ClockPackage.odex from another device (running on 2.3.5 instead of 2.3.6) and now I get the following error while trying to install the apk:
"Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package"
Does anybody know what to do?
Contacts app backup please help
hi, I recently updated my sgs2 i9100p (NFS) to ics via kies. Its orange but I unlocked now 4.0.3 with baseband ver i9100PBVLP6. an orange bloatware called 'contact backup' irritated me so I decided to uninstall it with Titanium backup. but in a hurry I uninstalled stock contact app. now there is no contact and in every 5-10 second phone freezes and error msg comes-' unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped'. Please help.
AnalogClock.apk + ClockPackage.apk seem to work together.
I used SystemApp Remover to disable ClockPackage.apk, (thought it was a bunch of unnecessary Clock widgets), but stock Clocks package stopped working. I tried enabling it, copying ClockPackage.apk, and still could not. SuperSU logs indicated that all operations succeded normally, but it simply would not work.
I thought, maybe it messed up with program data, permissions, etc., so I removed/deleted both, restarted, then simply copied .apk file for both back. Only then it worked.

There are applications that access data, and there are applications that provide that data. For example, for contacts, you could have many applications that use it (Email, Messenger, Call Logs, etc), and one application that provides it. In case if you accidentally delete data provider (in your case contacts), and if that data provider is essential to running your phone, you will ruin your phone. You might be able to restore it, but I would recommend using Odin to flash correct official firmware. Search in forum "i9100 Android Development".

U are right. I think I uninstalled contact provider, the main contact app. I tried to find solution for all day but coudn't. Tried to flash original stock rom which I have downloaded (i9001PBVLP6) but odin didn't detect my phone in downloading mode. I had to make my phone work anyhow so I flashed Wanamlite 11 with cwm which is ok but not fully functioned on my nfc version sgs2 (now I know the importance of back-up). Now I want my original stock rom back. tried with cwm but didnt work, Odin doesnt detect my phone. any help regarding flashing this stock rom, please?

Problem parsing the package

Ok so I just unrooted my vibrant cause i like touchwiz and wanted to use it. Later on I downloaded an app and whhen i tried to install it it said problem parsing the package. So then went to use the apk i used before when i was rooted. Same error. I really dont want to go back to any custom rom to use this. Please help
Even the sims 3 that comes with the phone says problem parsing package
Rooting has nothing to do with it at all. What ROM are you on and what ROM are you coming from. Parsing issues come from signatures in the APK.
Example: ROM1 has a cool blue-colored app called Smellthefish.apk. You leave ROM1 and go to ROM2 and want to install Smellthefish.apk but it won't install from the market and you get a parsing error. You try to install the cool blue one from your TB backup and again get the parsing error. This is b/c ROM dev modded the Smellthefish.apk to MAKE it cool blue. When he did this he de-compiled the apk, edited the XML, resigned it and re-compiled it back and cooked it into his ROM.
What you need to do is uninstall Smellthefish.apk and then go into settings>manage apps and make sure it isn't there. Go into Market while you are in there and clear cache and data. (You may want to boot into recovery and clear /cache and /dalvik-cache too) Go back into market, sign in and now you should be able to download Smellthefish.apk and let the funny faces begin.
To dispel any rumors Smellthefish is not real and Rooting does nothing to your ROM but give you Root Permission, which means that you can get into files like /system, /data, /cache,...

[Q] TwLauncher reinstall

after unininstalling some system apps twlauncher stoped working in galaxy s2 ics rooted.I cleared storage and deufault settings but nothing worked. Some files must be corrupted.Temporary installed another launcher to work with the phone. Is there any way to download stock twlauncher?
You have given the answer in your post, and still you seek the answer?
Let me make it clear - you probably uninstalled system apps that TwLauncher needs to work. I really hope you did backup of those apps, or why just not freeze them? Much easier and safer.
Have you for starters in your search for Twlauncher, searched in Google?
Even if you find TwLauncher app i don't think it will fix this problem, since the system apps will still be gone
The solution is to flash a ROM or re-flash the currnet ROM.

You can't. Re-flash the rom (and let that be a lesson learned to freeze stuff rather than remove or uninstall it in future - and to make regular backups).
No one who has the stock touchwiz launcher apk?
It won't work. The file dependencies would be messed up/deleted. But if you want to try it, go download a stock rom from Samfirmware & pull the apk out yourself.

How can i pull it out?
Root phone then get root browser free from playstore and copy file to sd. Done
OP...you have been told by 2 people that it WON'T work....I think you need to trust them. You may not have uninstalled the actual TW apk, but you have uninstalled a system apk that TW depends on. Reinstalling the TW apk will not reinstall the missing system apks. All it'll do is overwrite the non functioning launcher with another non functioning launcher. You need to be able to remember with 100% accuracy what you uninstalled and focus on reinstalling just those elements.......
Be advised that you should also look for a firmware that exactly matches your current ics version, otherwise there may be differences to the extracted apks that *could* cause system conflicts. And finally, if you've been playing with ics 4.0.4, I'd advise you to forget about it entirely, and consider a full reflash with either 4.0.3 or 4.1.2......
Search 'emmc brickbug' for the why.....

I only advised how to pull it out of system  up to him what happens mate. Like you and others have said wont work

Do you have the zip file of the ROM that you put on your phone? If so, you can edit the zip file using 7zip (find the apps folder) and flash that, making sure that the signature verify is turned off. This is how I used to do it on my phone, but have recently updated to using 4Ext and still finding my way around this app, but it's got app removal built in (I think).
Hope this helps :good:

Not at all, we all have to start somewhere. I'm not particularly technical myself so I will try and help as much as I can.
When you say you have rooted your phone, have you also install a custom ROM on your phone as well? To do this, you should have had a zip file that you used to flash the ROM to the phone.
I would create a copy of the ZIP file, in case you go wrong. Open up the ZIP file using 7zip (or something similar, I suggested this one as I know you can delete files from the zip file, but some other programs won't do this).
You show see two folders, click on system and then click on the app folder. You need to be careful in what you delete as it might force the phone to crash out (hence make a copy of the ZIP file, and have both of them on your phone). Simply delete the apps you don't want and then save and flash the ROM on your phone (you will need to turn off signature verify for it to work, but I'm not sure where there will be in your menu's as I don't know what recovery you are using, it's normally under "other").
Does this make anything more clearer?
If not, please explain exactly what you have done in terms of rooting and flashing a ROM.

In order to understand what it is that you want to archive, could you please tell me why you rooted your phone?
I ask as, unless you have a copy of the stock ROM, once you have flashed a ROM, you won't be able to go back to the original ROM. If you are happy to go ahead, I suggest you look around for ROM's that will work on your phone. Depending on what you want from a ROM (small size, quick loading or lots of gadgets and tweaks), you should be able to find one already working to how you would like. Some ROM's do not have any Google apps or YouTube and only have basic apps to run the phone (I had a ROM call Redux that was like this), other ROM's have many features (I've had a ROM called MIUI that was like this). If you find a ROM you like, it is better to leave the apps as they are.
I can try and help you with how to flash the ROM if you get stuck, but I did not use the superoneclick way.
As I said first, why do you want to remove apps?

Hmmmmmm, there are other things you could try if you are having issues with your phone.
I have an app called Autostarts and you can stop apps from booting when the phone is restarted or when other things happen (like a change in signal).
I also have another app called Battery Mix which is very good at finding out what apps are running and draining the battery or taking up CPU usage.
I also have another app called Quick System Info which you can set up so that when you click end tasks, it only ends tasks that you've selected (you put them on a supervise list), which is very handy if you have things like 3G monitoring or clocks that might crash if you kill them.
Maybe you need to root the phone in a different way. Try reading this

I know someone who has tried a method similar to yours and had issues, whereas I've rooted and even s-off (I have a HTC desire and s-off (sense off) is a security feature on that.
You could try this

Or this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767975 (this might not be Gingerbread but the features between each one aren't that noticable, but this ROM might make your phone run faster, as I said before, you need to think about what you want from the phone, speed or gadgets)
