after unininstalling some system apps twlauncher stoped working in galaxy s2 ics rooted.I cleared storage and deufault settings but nothing worked. Some files must be corrupted.Temporary installed another launcher to work with the phone. Is there any way to download stock twlauncher?
You have given the answer in your post, and still you seek the answer?
Let me make it clear - you probably uninstalled system apps that TwLauncher needs to work. I really hope you did backup of those apps, or why just not freeze them? Much easier and safer.
Have you for starters in your search for Twlauncher, searched in Google?
Even if you find TwLauncher app i don't think it will fix this problem, since the system apps will still be gone
The solution is to flash a ROM or re-flash the currnet ROM.

Maybe i give answer in my post but you didn't answer my question too......i know the problem....no i don't have a backup and i can't find the stock twlauncher app....can you help in this?i want to avoid flash.
You can't. Re-flash the rom (and let that be a lesson learned to freeze stuff rather than remove or uninstall it in future - and to make regular backups).
No one who has the stock touchwiz launcher apk?
It won't work. The file dependencies would be messed up/deleted. But if you want to try it, go download a stock rom from Samfirmware & pull the apk out yourself.

How can i pull it out?
Root phone then get root browser free from playstore and copy file to sd. Done
OP...you have been told by 2 people that it WON'T work....I think you need to trust them. You may not have uninstalled the actual TW apk, but you have uninstalled a system apk that TW depends on. Reinstalling the TW apk will not reinstall the missing system apks. All it'll do is overwrite the non functioning launcher with another non functioning launcher. You need to be able to remember with 100% accuracy what you uninstalled and focus on reinstalling just those elements.......
Be advised that you should also look for a firmware that exactly matches your current ics version, otherwise there may be differences to the extracted apks that *could* cause system conflicts. And finally, if you've been playing with ics 4.0.4, I'd advise you to forget about it entirely, and consider a full reflash with either 4.0.3 or 4.1.2......
Search 'emmc brickbug' for the why.....

I made this for my own use, after getting annoyed with laggy browser using XXKG1. I like the stock browser, and wanted to "fix" it.
Thanks LeoMar75, I used your odexed files

NOTE: this will NOT work if you use a mod that has made changes to some of your framework files. e.g. madmack.
As always, do a nandroid before flashing.
Reserving this.
Is this basically just an odexed browser? What other files does it touch?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Odexed browser and framework files. Apart from that, it wipes cache. That's it.
So this will overwrite anything that touches the framework like battery mods?
It's a shame there isn't an easier way to do mods than buggering around with the apk's
Thanks for the info!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
You can actually open up the zip, and delete framework-res.apk from the framework folder, and then apply it, and your battery mod will stay
And will it still work? This is on a deodexed rom.

Tried it with lite pro rom v2.2 and it got stuck on first boot logo.. Fortunately i did a nandroid backup first :/
I'm playing around with this as we speak.
VR 2.0 LITE.
So .. first problem I encountered: browser always crashed when I start it up BUT it does work with some kinks. Witch I think I can solve.
So how does it work? Well I am a arstechnica reader. In pulse rss reader (if not a subscriber to ars) you get a few lines from the artikel with a button to read the rest of the artikel in the browser. If you press it, you stay in Pulse reader but the engine of the browser is used to display the artikel at it's correct url.
The engine (with all it's hw-acc glory) works. As in: I can browse the page on ars, the comments, even with video's no problem. No laggy **** what so ever.
But ... the frameworks screws **** up a bit. (I think ) So I tried flashing back my old frameworks ... but it didn't work I screwed up my phone
So as we speak I'm reflashing vr2.0 lite.
So what I'll be trying is flashing JUST the browser part (without the frameworks). Lets see if that helps.
Which files does the browser need to work btw? As in: what files should I keep from frameworks? Or is it possible to just delete the whole frameworks folder?
I don't know what happened here! I took my risk and tried to flash it on cognition rom...I delete first framework apk and when I flashed I got an error E: bla bla bla message..I reboot and....no lag at the browser? I don't get it really I don't! Thanks anyway!

Yes. Do a nandroid before hand to be sure
@people having problems with FCs. Not sure why you'd be having that problem, I didn't have any ._.
I'd suggest wiping dalvik and cache and updating if you still get FCs.
many issues with android can be related to caching mechanism...
My script *should* be wiping it anyway.
For myself, I did it manually.
Hey Rawat, I have always been under the impression that mixing odex and dex was not a good idea and has caused problems before when I was working on sgs roms.
Care to give any insight as to how this is not breaking everything? Very curious as I really don't want to load my rom with dolphin browser.

From http://www.netmite.com/android/mydroid/dalvik/docs/dexopt.html:
There are at least three different ways to create a "prepared" DEX file, sometimes known as "ODEX" (for Optimized DEX):
The VM does it "just in time". The output goes into a special dalvik-cache directory. This works on the desktop and engineering-only device builds where the permissions on the dalvik-cache directory are not restricted. On production devices, this is not allowed.

So, if I understand correctly the odexed file is optimized, but you don't _need_ to have it as the OS will take care of it with some added CPU cycles (which we have enough to go around ) and swap it out to cache. But having the pre-odexed code would do no harm - as I take it - as it is preferred in terms of CPU time, but not necessary. By deodexing firmware you're not taking the odex interpreting code out, just taking out the odex itself. Please correct any ignorance in my thoughts, but I don't really see why you couldn't mix and match.
Am I making any sense at this hour with my medication?
on VR2.0, flashed via CWM and it does not say its done? it just reboots itself to ROM.. the app is there, but FCs after a few sec.. tried deleting framework res, clear cache and dalvik too.. if any VR2.0 user managed to use it flawless, do share how did u managed to
Hmm, taking out the framework apk didn't allow the browser to work unfortunately.. Android loads fine, but the browser force closes as soon as I attempt to scroll a webpage.. Looks like this will only work with an unmodded framework apk like you mentioned.
Sent from my SGS2
So i have been toying around with getting this to work on VR2.0 lite ... but as my earlier post (#9) said .. something is screwing the browser app up.
The engine runs pretty sweet. In multiple apps that use the browser engine to display content on the web everything works fine.
But the browser fc every time I scroll a page.
I read in some post that mixing odex & deodex stuff in the rom is not appreciated by the os. So it could be just a known thing I'm diving into. (I need a second phone to start experimenting since I really don't want to brik my phone)
So .. until I have time and the patience to actually learn how this works under the hood .. I have bad news
I remember the dialer before i upgraded to ICS had a tab at the top for contacts, i could click that and find the contact i wanted, hell i could even send a SMS from there by swyping the contact name to the side...
The new dialer for ICS has contacts listed under the menu button, meaning its one more keypress to get there. It just doesnt "flow" as well, if that makes sense.
Im wondering, has anyone else noticed this? how can i get back the old dialer? Are there any good tweaked ICS roms that have this (and other) improvements? Im sorry but search didnt come up with anything and this place is crazy (two android development sections!?!) i couldnt find anything when i searched that met what im looking for.
Im currently running XXLPQ stock
hey there, i am using resurrection remix 1.4 w/ siyahkernel3.1rc6, and the dialler app for ics has contacts at the top of the dialler if thats what your looking for? its got 3 tabs, dialler, recent calls, contacts
That's exactly what inn looking for, any chance you can post the dialer apk for me?
i will do a titanium backup and see if i can get hold of my apk
EDIT: the two files i attached, put it in sd card, titanium backup... i THINK this will work, i would to a nandroid backup just to be sure, then try restoring the apps (search for phone in titanium)
pm me if i dnt reply to this thread
No go on the titanium backup, didn't wanna show up in my list, i cleared my titanium folder so there was nothing else, put the files in, restarted, start TB, no backups found for the dialer.
Try using root explorer and finding your dialer apk and post that? I can manually replace the file
thats the thing its not called dialler lol, its called phone, and seems to be fragmented into two parts =S lol let me see if i can find someting else
EDIT: try un g zipping the file so it shows an APK file and try pushing it to the system maybe? or installing it
EDIT 2: i managed to extract these apk's from the resurrection remix rom:
contacts, contactsprovider, phone, phonesky
hope it helps
Perhaps both Phone.apk (and .odex if applicable) and Contacts.apk (and .odex if applicable)?
my bad let me find .odex
EDIT: cant find .odex but try push the above found in system (on the rom.zip)

You don't have Phone.odex and Contacts.odex? That means YOU'RE on a deodexed ROM... But IF the other guy who is requesting the files is on an odexed ROM, he will have an extra step of removing the applicable .odex files. But he may already know that. (and it's always recommended to back anything up that you may end up needing again if you remove it)

I had that problem with "Resurrection rom 1.1" and believe me you better re-flash the ROM than s***ing with .apk-s... Didn't work for me so if you don't want to flash again you may use exDialer from the market, it's a good app, has the "swipe" functions and ICS themes, I used it for a week before switching to RR 1.4.

No... you don't.
Back up the .apk file you intend to replace, along with their corresponding .odex file. Then REMOVE the .odex file and replace the .apk.
For example, if he gives you Phone.apk, and you have Phone.apk and Phone.odex, then COPY your original copies of Phone.apk and Phone.odex to a safe place, then delete Phone.odex, and replace your existing Phone.apk.
I've done this before, and used a deodexed Phone app on my odexed firmware.
Tried that but it didn't seem to work, after restart i lost service and couldn't dual out and had several other services complain on me, perhaps it's not comparable with my system?

If his version of Android is different than yours, then his apps probably wouldn't work for you.
Going back to read the thread, he said he is on Resurrection Remix 1.4. Looking at the thread for that ROM, it is AOKP based, with elements from CM9. What firmware are you on? You said you're on ICS, but you never mention specifically what ROM. Are you on stock? Then yeah, his apps probably won't work for you.
damn a shame it wouldnt work, try out go dialler tho if you want quick contacts access, from the dialler you just have to swipe to change to contacts... i used to use it but the themes arent as good as the ones we have lol

I've not seen any mods for stock ICS to have this. A quick google search also turns up nothing for stock ICS.
So if you absolutely want this in ICS, you will need to flash a custom ROM.
EDIT to add: I should rephrase; you also have the option of using a third party dialer that has contacts integrated. But if you want to have the dialer that is included in the ICS ROM to have the contacts tab, you'll need to flash a custom ROM.

Hey all used this guide to upgrade stock jellybean,

Worked brilliantly and then got above my skill level when removing some bloatware, normally i copy the apks i remove however this time i pressed delete by mistake, now have huge issues with play store and other apps. I have deleted too many apks
Have tried installing google apks again but still no joy. Does any one know of a way i can install JB again to start afresh i did try downgrading as per the guide but that didnt actually remove the JB firmware. I feel although even with huge amounts of help from flumpster (many thanks) we arnt cracking it so a fresh install is prob best, i just hope someone knows how to.

How do I make Androidlost app factory-reset-proof? I'm pretty amazed that this serious issue hasn't been answered yet in all those threads I searched regarding Androidlost.

As you said, you need to be rooted for that.Apk file would need to be transferred to system/app folder.
There's no way you can do it if you're not rooted.

I am rooted and I understood that.
I am asking if anyone has done this (or knows exactly how it is done), making Androidlost factory-reset-proof aka after a factory reset is this still working good? Aren't there any settings or any app data that also needs to be "saved" somehow to protect it in case of a factory-reset? I just put the apk in /system/app and all should be working perfectly??
LE: Come to think about it, it should be easy for me to test this... just make a nandroid backup first, right?
so has anyone been able to move an apk to /system/app AND find a way to make their settings for a particular app factory reset-proof? im trying to find a way to protect not just an app I have on my phone but also the settings

I am working on it.
So far I have managed to modify the kernel, to make it reinstall androidlost on every reboot. This would allow the app to survive any wipe, factory reset, firmware update, short of flashing the kernel itself!
The problem is the settings. I can easily add my own settings to my own custom kernel, but I doubt many people would want their phone to report to me. And asking everyone to modify the kernel themselves to store their own settings, is out of the question.
I have contacted the developer of androidlost to see if we can make it work so that it only needs to be configured once on a specific phone, and then it is tied to the IMEI. This way, the settings would survive anything, and would always get updated whenever the phone contacts androidlost servers.
ok, well what about building the apk and settings into a custom rom? such as, taking the stock rom (or mr robinson's root66 roms), installing the apk, set up the apk with whatever settings you want, then building a custom rom out of that? then, if you do a master reset, wouldnt the apk and settings be exactly as they were when u first made it? I hope that makes sense lol.
any news on this?

I'm very interested in learning how you modified your kernel to reinstall AndroidLost at every reboot AND how you put your own personal settings in the kernel so that they are applied to AndroidLost everytime!
If you wouldn't mind, could you possibly reply to this post, or send me a private message, explained how you modified the kernel and what I would need to do to input my own settings into my kernel? I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to rooting, flashing ROMs and kernel, and dabbling alittle in writing my own apps... So I shouldn't have too much trouble doing what you did if I could just get a little example and pointed in the right direction!

proof, i'm factory reset by me and android lost still there, in another case, my Samsung grand prime get some error and I bring to Samsung service center then my phone got factory reset with software update, and........ guess what ? android lost still there, bravo
but what about the settings? im interested on doing something like this for wheres my droid, so far the only app that does this succesfully is CERBERUS, i would like to take the wheres my droid and make it a system app (no problem there) but how to preserve the settings etc?
factory reset proof
I have been searching for a way to implement this and today i found this resource that you might find useful : (search) how to install any app as system app on android (addictivetips website) - sorry, i can't be allowed to post a link here.
I implemented one of those methods and i succeeded in making androidlost a system app in my phone. However, i havent tested whether it will still be useful after a factory reset due to loss of app settings (data).
This probably won't help but https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/cerberus-support-forum/0zH3VEu1H9w

Do you have the zip file of the ROM that you put on your phone? If so, you can edit the zip file using 7zip (find the apps folder) and flash that, making sure that the signature verify is turned off. This is how I used to do it on my phone, but have recently updated to using 4Ext and still finding my way around this app, but it's got app removal built in (I think).
Hope this helps :good:

Not at all, we all have to start somewhere. I'm not particularly technical myself so I will try and help as much as I can.
When you say you have rooted your phone, have you also install a custom ROM on your phone as well? To do this, you should have had a zip file that you used to flash the ROM to the phone.
I would create a copy of the ZIP file, in case you go wrong. Open up the ZIP file using 7zip (or something similar, I suggested this one as I know you can delete files from the zip file, but some other programs won't do this).
You show see two folders, click on system and then click on the app folder. You need to be careful in what you delete as it might force the phone to crash out (hence make a copy of the ZIP file, and have both of them on your phone). Simply delete the apps you don't want and then save and flash the ROM on your phone (you will need to turn off signature verify for it to work, but I'm not sure where there will be in your menu's as I don't know what recovery you are using, it's normally under "other").
Does this make anything more clearer?
If not, please explain exactly what you have done in terms of rooting and flashing a ROM.

In order to understand what it is that you want to archive, could you please tell me why you rooted your phone?
I ask as, unless you have a copy of the stock ROM, once you have flashed a ROM, you won't be able to go back to the original ROM. If you are happy to go ahead, I suggest you look around for ROM's that will work on your phone. Depending on what you want from a ROM (small size, quick loading or lots of gadgets and tweaks), you should be able to find one already working to how you would like. Some ROM's do not have any Google apps or YouTube and only have basic apps to run the phone (I had a ROM call Redux that was like this), other ROM's have many features (I've had a ROM called MIUI that was like this). If you find a ROM you like, it is better to leave the apps as they are.
I can try and help you with how to flash the ROM if you get stuck, but I did not use the superoneclick way.
As I said first, why do you want to remove apps?

If you find a custom ROM you like (I would try it first before deleting apps), then I would hold off downloading 7zip as you may not need it if you like the ROM as it is :good:

Hmmmmmm, there are other things you could try if you are having issues with your phone.
I have an app called Autostarts and you can stop apps from booting when the phone is restarted or when other things happen (like a change in signal).
I also have another app called Battery Mix which is very good at finding out what apps are running and draining the battery or taking up CPU usage.
I also have another app called Quick System Info which you can set up so that when you click end tasks, it only ends tasks that you've selected (you put them on a supervise list), which is very handy if you have things like 3G monitoring or clocks that might crash if you kill them.
Maybe you need to root the phone in a different way. Try reading this

I know someone who has tried a method similar to yours and had issues, whereas I've rooted and even s-off (I have a HTC desire and s-off (sense off) is a security feature on that.
You could try this

Or this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767975 (this might not be Gingerbread but the features between each one aren't that noticable, but this ROM might make your phone run faster, as I said before, you need to think about what you want from the phone, speed or gadgets)
