Prefered battery saving app? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Which battery saver do you guys prefer? I've been using juice defender for a while not but its been slacking so im just wondering what YOU prefer to use to make your battery last longer!

I'm curious about this as well.

i've seen alot of folks like Juice Defender. there are 3 variants, free and two paid versions which are smarter and more proactive. you can read about them in the market. i'm just sharing that, but i have only tried the free version, and it hasn't done too much for me, but i'm probably not what some would call a power user. check out the details at the market.

I don't use any..... no task killer either.

Does your battery last pretty long?

I used Juice Defender Pro for several months and finally did some testing. In my case, the program was using as much "juice" as it was saving. YMMV depending on how you use your phone. I don't use a task killer either.

I get about 4 hrs of screen on Tim with 16 total hrs and 15-20% remaining.

Yeah, I don't use any. No task killers either.
I tried Juice Defender back on my captivate, because I started to get horrendous battery life on that, it didn't help at all. I even had the paid version. If you're just looking to save battery, UC and UV is the way to go. I UC to 1GHz and UV quite a bit. Just flashed a newer version of MIUI and a new version of Init.Doh, so we'll see how this is. Most I got with MIUI+Siyah+Init.Doh was around 27 hours, with eleven hours of screen on time, only once though, must've been a good charge.

Do you use any custom battery saving tweaks using Llama or Tasker?
Right now I am testing out Turkbey v32 on DD 1/30/2012 and KH7. With few Llama tweaks, am able to get about 17 hrs with about 2.5hrs screen on time, 2 hrs talktime and about 1.5 hrs of podcast.

Task killers work if you have a rogue app that refuses to let go of processor time and memory resources. Otherwise, let android do its job and manage its resources.

I've found that Easy Battery Saver works likw a charm in saving battery. And its free.

Undervolting works fine enough for me. No need for a juice defender style app. I also keep my screen on a low brightness setting unless watching a video and turn off wifi and data when not using them. Other then that...I just make sure I'm not running an app in the known battery drainers thread.

Juice defender does a pretty good job.

Im running voltage control with the illusion ROM and getting crazy good battery life. But i have tryed juice defender pro and even with it all tweaked out it still was burning more battery than not having it. At that time i think i was running coz or tasks ics'd out. I must say a simple task manager is more efficient on my end. But also a ROM that goes in deep sleep really helps on the battery (little off subject!)
Hope it helps someone out there.

In my experience I've found that Juice Defender Ultimate with the extreme setting works well with GB. Manages the data connections well and goes well with using Autokiller (Task killer app). Ultimate is the paid version, and I get 48+ hours with average use (music, occasional wifi/3g, Calls). The free version (limited options) was better than nothing.
Anyway, I cant seem to get the same experience with ICS. It seems to be taking more juice than saving it. Anyone with any recommendations for this? I'm using an SGS2.

I used juice defender ultimate with advanced (my own personal preferences) settings - but unnamed 2.2.1 overrides JD no matter what I do. Maybe I'd do better with uninstall for now

I did some testing with this app and it seems to work pretty good. It's not a big savings, but it helps people who are lazy. Turns off 3g/wifi/bluetooth/etc when you turn the screen off, which helps save a lot of battery.

I tried juice defender but never saw any improvement in battery life.

Yep, this phone rules. Love the fact that it works so good as a PHONE too, the way they all should. Motorola has it down. My best since the latest update was over 40 hours, with a few hours worth of phone calls.

I use custom data saver mode set to turn off data automatically after 15 min all day and night. That way I don't have to bother switching data on and off manually. Plus, it comes on very fast when I turn the screen on. I do keep BT and WIFI off when not in use, brightness at 25%. I also use the built in task killer to auto kill a few apps that want to keep running, like Facebook. I'm locked, but rooted running stock rom, and I used battery calibrator app after the update which helped. Although, before the update I was getting pretty much the same battery life.
And with me, believe it or not, I have the brightness all the way down, (you'd be surprised how bright the screen still is!!!!!) That's my only real secret to even better battery life

I did the same thing with moto, except i was getting great battery life to begin with. I just wanted a second battery.
One thing that I don't get though is why the phone always wakes up on it's own. My heroc and Evo 3D didn't do that, with the same apps installed. It kinda concerns me.

Just wanted to post new battery settings:
- Running Skinny ROM, unlocked, rooted
- Actually stopped overclocking the phone - max is 1000 Mhz
- Undervolt @ -75mV
- Juice Defender - Customized Settings (wondering if Aggressive is better)
- I did go through two nights on Airplane mode 14hrs
- Alarm I hear is what causes the phone to be "awake" at night...
Well, I'd say it's been pretty impressive...though I didn't text much and wasn't on too many phone calls, I'd say 24 hours of use w/ 10% left isn't too shabby. I could have probably gotten another couple of hours.

For energy saving purpose Juice defender works better, but you can use in addiction Smart action to automate some tasks
In my opinion, JD is far more effective, but perhaps it's because I use it for a long time and I don't want to change my habits
I tried SA, but I've switched back to JD after a week.
Using JD with advanced settings (schedules, brightness control, screen on, ...), I have just no battery issue.
In case you like OOTB solutions, SA are ... smart enough.
In case you like full control, JD gives you more options.
They both deserve a try
I too must side with JD for flexibility, ease and results with the battery savings. I love SAand tried to beat JD but couldn't. They are still very helpful with other things though.

There are small lags with any app that disable and re-enable data connection when sync start. This occurs also with smart action: it's a Android operating system issue
i am going to give Smart Actions a try.
I have used JD and it works great but, does add a lag when device is return active.
don't forget to set your built in "Task Manager" to auto-kill the apps you don't need running once your phone's display is off for a few minutes...

Just curious, what setting do you have juice defender set to. I bought it today and tried to customize it. 2 days ago I suddenly had Motorola Services show up eating a high percentage of time and my Barry life has gone down. It shows CPU total at 17 minutes and keep awake at 4 hours and 18 minutes. I have been on battery for 5 hours and am down to 62%.
I had free JD running as well and had for a while. I might change from customized to a default. My battery life has gone south since this Motorola services showed up out of no where.
I personally don't use S.A. I use juice defender ultimate & tasker... Both are excellent programs... Taller is the same thing as smart actions but a thousand times more powerful and customizable..
I use SA, it is not perfect but it is pretty easy to use. One thing I wish for is when I disconnect my bluetooth, quit pandora if it is running.
i tried juice defender ultimate but the phone went hot, use smart action instead. i bet having both of them would be conflicting.
Smart Actions are useful and slightly more customizable, but JD has way more options to help save battery & can do AOSP helper type stuff. Definitely siding with JD
Turned off SA's, installed JD ultimate, the first day's results are :

+1
we need to learn more
tried
1. SA and JD both at the same time - phone get hot, poor battery
2. JD stand alone - slow, missing emails, long time to reconnect (annoying). poor battery
3. back to SA standalone (with setcpu)..it gets better now, around 7-10% per hour with similar use. this is the best i got, so far.
phone is rooted and few apps/bloatware frozen.
i have used JD from nexus one days in 2010, and didn't work for me.
Smart actions i believe works in a much more reasonable way than juice defender which is a terrible app when you use the free version and I have yet to really test the payed version.
Other than that I still would put my vote on smart actions mostly because Juice defenders method is to turn off features of the phone to save battery life which would stop things like email and facebook (for example) from updating on a live basis.
Also I've yet to see either app have the function to auto switch 4G on when you unlock the phone.
I am going to give credit to smart actions here just because the free version comes with more options than the payed version of juice defender and lets you build its battery saving protocols rather than using a menu to pick the ones the dev thought up.

Ready to throw my Amaze in the river

I have a serious love/hate relationship with my new Amaze. Yes, it's fast and the resolution is beautiful but at what cost? What good is the phone if it's constantly tethered to the power outlet?
I have read a lot of this forum and I know battery life is not one of the Amaze's best attributes, but I feel like mine is extraordinarily atrocious.
So any and all suggestions would be much appreciated as to what I can do to stop the drain.
I am running Speed Rom 6.0 JellyBean with faux's kernel.
I have all syncing turned off except for my gmail and WeatherBug every 4 hours. I don't play Angry Birds or any other games. I don't watch Netflix or YouTube. I don't even really make calls on the phone. Just SMS, light web surfing, email, and some audio streaming but always with the screen off. My network is T-Mobile and my bars are typically 3 or higher in a 4G zone so I don't think it's straining to find the signal.
I always use the phone at the lowest brightness level. I have the Save Power option turned on in my Quick Settings. In System Tuner I have the governor set to on-demand and the off screen mode to power save.
I don't run any widgets, live wallpapers, and my desktop is all black. I also purchased a larger 2450 mAh battery to replace the smaller OEM. I feel like I'm doing everything I possibly can to save on power but it's infuriating to be on the phone and actually watch my power level increment down.
What am I missing? Is there a better rom to run that'll save power? Is there a setting I've overlooked? Please help. I don't want to throw this phone in the river because I paid a lot of money for it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank You,
-golgiapp
weatherbug always drained my battery really fast on all my phones even with the refresh settings set to 4 hours. try your phone without that app for a few days. (when you uninstall it reboot the phone so all the phones processes are forced to restart)
and i get at least a full day on OEM battery with the phasebeam live wallpaper and like 5-6 3D htc widgets set to 30min refresh time.

my ankor 1900mhz is just as poor, but I know it's not the battery's fault (idle with data off, phone sips battery at around 1% per 3 hour drain)
@ OP, try turning off the data connection and sync off for a few hours... if the energy is still being used up, then it's the battery's fault... otherwise, it might be a misbehaving app... i'd say reinstall the rom
Undervolt is a good way, effects vary in every phone because not all chips are made equal. Disable background data on apps you don't regularly use, and limit background processes to 4 in dev settings

[Q] Samsung galaxy s3 battery

Im new to this forum thing so sorry if i do/type something wrong. Anyway, i got my gs3 few months ago, and the battery life lasts a day, when i had iphone 3g it lasted like 3 days without charging, so i wanna know if this is normal with everyone or i have to fix it. Yes its rooted with a costume rom.
How often do you use it? Which CPU governor are you using? Make sure it can deep sleep, because if it doesn't it will drain very quickly.
Deep sleep? First I'm hearing about that. Could I set that myself in the paranoid kangdroid ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Deep sleep is a built-in feature that reduces power consumption when you're not using the phone. There are some applications that will keep your phone awake (known as a a wakelock) even when the phone's screen is off. To find out more, get CPU Spy and Wakelock Detector. The former will show you how long your CPU is in each frequency and deep sleep, if at all. The latter will scan for apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
How much screen on time and other use does it get?
I get 3-4 hours of screen on time before I charge and that's a typical day for me. The newer and more powerful hardware is going to use more battery in general, too - compared to an older phone with much weaker hardware.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If your phone lasts a full day, that's a miracle by today's standards. My S3 i9300 lasts about a full day also, with ~2 hours of screen time at most. Unless you have a Motorola Razr Maxx (3300 mAh battery) or a Note 2, you're probably not going to get over a day of battery life on any phone with anything over minimal usage. Also, don't let your battery die completely; don't go lower than around 20-25%. If you repeatedly do, your battery will overall hold less of a charge.
I suggest also that you turn on Power Saver if you're not gaming. Go into Settings -> Power Saver and disable the screen power savings (it limits the frame rate). This basically keeps the phone from going above 1 GHz (barely noticeable in terms of speed, but big battery savings).
Since you use a custom ROM, try messing with the min/max frequencies of your phone. My Samsung Galaxy SII has pretty good battery life; in this screenshot it's about 2 hours of screen time - 30 minutes of internet data, 30 minutes of music and the rest is miscellaneous gaming, videos, arranging apps etc. Oh yes, and a few phone calls, of course.

Click "Screen" to show for how long the screen was actually on. Overall that's good battery life though. Do you actually notice an improvement?

screen is on 2 hours and 27 mins. if i didnt use power saving the battery would probably be 15%.

That's amazing. Seriously. 2.5 hrs and 54% left. That's nuts!

Battery life heavily depends on the brightness. Mine is at about 60% fixed brightness, and in the screenshot it was at 1 hour 52 minutes of screen time.
lol i thought that battery life was bad.. thx

Don't expect too much from today's fancy smartphones. They are mostly form over function, and would rather have a slim body and unnecessarily fast internals rather than good battery life.

Battery Life

Hig guys my battery life isnt very good , it drains in day with almost no use. Brightness on 25 , Data is Off and also the service location is off .
Anyone knows how to fix this.
I bought the phone because of the battery
And also i bought is last saturday.
Can you post your battery stats?

U should reset ur phone. G2 battery is very awesome. I turn on everything 3g, WiFi, sync, Facebook, viber, ... And I use my phone to read news whenever I have time, so my screen time on of my phone one day is usually 4 hours. Everyday I get home with approx 40% of battery. But one thing I recommend u is u should buy the app lux auto brightness replace for stock auto brightness. I was really surprise after I installed that app, it save for my about one hour screen time.

Download "Better Battery Stats" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats&hl=en
Take a look at the wakelocks, alarms and see what is keeping your phone awake.
Also , posting a screenshot of your battery life graph would be beneficial.
Cheers !
Edit: Agree with quachhanthanh about Lux Auto Brightness. Totally worth the money , even though the free app does its job admirably.
Ah good idea with lux auto brightness.
I will test this too.
The stock auto brightness never works good on my phone.

Ah ok thank you , could have known that myself
It really helps to know the stats to start. A rogue app or service can cause a lot of issues. I had a contact sync issue that drained my battery quickly. Found and fixed.
I use greenify(really good for battery life) and also under google settings, I mean the app you have called google settings, uncheck all those things you dont need including under Android Device Manager -> Remotely locate this device. I disabled alot of things in there. If you need to leave wifi on you can also change your wifi scan intervals to like 360 in the build.prop. Thats just for starters.
Great battery here!
As has been said, a battery graph will help out a great deal. If you have a rogue app, it will show a higher percentage of usage than other similar apps. If services really high, you might want to take a look at exactly which services are running. Be sure to always disable any you don't actually use. Also make sure your screen is set to turn off quickly, or use that nifty knock off feature. One last thing, if you are in a spotty coverage area, your radio will broadcast at maximum power trying to find a tower. That searching will kill any battery.

I'm getting horrible battery life.. About 2.5 hours screen time with 45% left. Screen has only used 20% of the battery.. its mostly being used up by Android System (33%) and Android OS(13%). I've got wakelock detector installed and its saying most of the time my phone is in deep sleep... God know's what's the issue.
P.S: I'm even using DS Battery Saver to force deep sleep... I really don't know why the OS and system are using so much battery!
P.S: Using better battery stats, it seems I'm having the activity manager causing wakelocks and the alarm rtc and powermanager service causing wakelocks... anyone has any idea how to stop this?
Almost 40hr with 4.35hr of screen time and still 38% left.
What can i say. I am happy
in two days and im with 20% , is that good or bad?
with normal use

Depends on what you do with the phone. I can drop 20% in like 3hrs easily using spotify alone.
At the moment im at 37h 12m with 3h 8m screen on. Im at 40%.
Here are my stats. I wonder why there's such a variance between different phones. Do LG source batteries from many different manufacturers? Maybe they don't do enough QA on the batteries? Battery life for me isn't terrible compared to other Android phones I've used (many won't even last a day), but I definitely need to charge it every night.

Useless, can't see your app usage.
I recommend posting in the comparative battery analysis thread.
Make sure you post all screen shots otherwise OP will be on your case.
