How much percent does your battery go down over night when you sleep? When i first got my tab it literally went down at most 2% and usually it was 1% or none at all.
After using it for 3 months and having a ton of APKs installed on it. I just installed Galaxy task's fat 14 and my tab died while i was sleeping, and I went to bed when it was around 18%
how is everyone's elses battery consumption during the 7 or 8 hrs of sleep?

dude. you answered your question yourself. "After using it for 3 months and having a ton of APKs installed on it." you have apps running in the background and who knows which one is going crazy. i have apps on my tab and at most i'll lose 3% while sleeping for 8-10 hours. you issue has nothing to do with the rom. it has everything to do with whatever app is going haywire.
I wasn't trying to blame it on your rom, its great, I'll investigate the apps/games i installed.
but i was using your task v12 for several weeks without this happening. Maybe something happened to my settings when i upgraded i guess. Thanks.

I know you weren't bro. I was just explaining how with a lot of apps this issue can happen relatively easy. You just gotta try and figure out which app is causing this and then I'm sure you won't have an issue anymore.
go to settings>about>battery use to see which app is using more of the battery.
you can also check to make sure your wifi sleeps when your tablet is off.
I am using task rom also and I don't have any battery issues. Before I go to bed, I always turn wifi off and kill all the apps thats running in the background and my battery never drains more then 3%. I hope this helps.
ot: how long does it take to fully charge the Galaxy Tab? i charged my gt for the first time yesterday and i wondered it took half of the day to reach the 100 percent
Thanks for the tips.
For the official charger that gets bundled i can usually charge fully in what feels like 3 hours.
Via USB on the non official it feels like i need 6 hours

Is there a difference between wifi sleep and OFF? I know there are some market apps that turn the wifi off based on certain conditions but i don't know if that saves more than wifi sleep
I put my tab in "Airplane Mode" when I sleep, and kill all active applications. I found this usually drops 1% or so when sleeping for 8 hours. The airplane mode shuts off all radios.
I have a button on my home screen that toggles the airplane mode, so I just tap that before hitting the power button.
This thread is very useful. I have been noticing a lot of battery drain while the Tab is in sleep mode. Changing the WIFI setting so it was turned off when the Tab screen is off made a big difference.
When I check the battery use info, one of the biggest power users is something called "Mediaserver". Does anyone know what this is. I am not sure if this is something running in the background or just displays as a result of viewing a video recently. If it is a background app, can it be safely disabled? Should it be disabled?
BTW, for those of us who are using Task's ROM, it is really easy to enter airplane mode. Just press the power button to bring up a dialogue box that allows various options including Airplane mode, reboot, recover, etc. This is a very useful feature.

Me and my wife have the Eris. no phones were rooted.
My phone was manually updated to 2.1 and my wifes was OTA.
before i go to bed i turn off the data signal and clear out all programs running with task killer. it was 60% charged, come to wake up in the morning and find that the battery fully discharged and had to plug it in the mains to switch it on. a few days after my wifes phone is doing the same.
would like some ideas from you guys on some of the reasons this may be happening. would love to provide you with more information... just tell me what and where i can get it from.
Thanks.

the same thing happens to me but in a different manner. This started about 3 days ago as far as i could notice. While the phone is in my pocket it would randomly get really hot and most of my battery would be drained. This usually happens in the middle of the day. I have to shut the phone down and restart it and then I would not notice the problem for rest of the day. I have 2.1 V3 leak installed on my phone. any ideas as why this is happening?

Wow...that is strangely similar to what is happening to mine. It just started a few days ago as well.
I got up this morning with a fully charged phone (it takes all of 10 hours to completely charge, if it does fully at all) and after looking at facebook and reading a few news articles for about 2 hours, my phone was at approx. 60%.
This happens every day now and I end up chasing a charge all days between the ac adapter and my car charger. I'm getting sick of carrying my charger with me all day but I have to.
Mine is also getting hot. I first noticed this Tuesday as I was using Tapatalk while the phone was charging via wall charger and it got hot and just died. I had to wait about 30 minutes for it to cool and then it would boot up.
Like you said, this just started recently and I am also running Leak v3. I have removed all widgets and taken off everything I don't absolutely need off of the phone (apps, that is) but no change. Just as an example, I have had mine connected via usb to my work pc since 5 pm (it's now 1:20 am) and it is still not completely charged.
It gets to about 85-90% but will not close out to a full charge for hours. I just ordered a new battery today to see if I have just "overcharged" mine, so if that works I'm gonna get a premium (1750 mah) battery maybe and try that.
Very strange. I'd say within the past few days, my phone has had considerably worse battery life as well. Usually I'm pretty good about killing apps and there was one day where I forgot for most of the day.
I recharged it to full last night and have been killing apps and keeping an eye on it all day and it is still giving me poor results. I'm rooted and running a 2.1v3 ROM atm.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6137989&postcount=23
or this
Long press power/end button. Turn Airplane mode ON. Press the power/end button to put your phone into sleep. Press power/end button to come out of sleep. Turn Airplane mode off.
The cell standby percentage will/should eventually go down to 0%.
or dont use task managers / killers. there is no use for it on the phone. android has a built in task killer that is really smart.
could be cell signal as well
issue solved
Hey guys, I solved the issue, i used the *#*#4636#*#* and in my settings it was trying to search for a GSM signal, so i changed it back to CDMA auto PRL
It was very strange it would do that but still its been running like a champ now, thanks everyone.

When I do this and look at the battery history, it says
Running 100%
Screen on 9%
Phone on .6%
and my battery level is at 58% currently. Mine is already set to CDMA/Auto PRL and my battery life within the last week or so has utterly SUCKED! I get up and unplug it at 3:30 am (fully charged) and go to my first job. By the time I get to my second job at around 10-10:15, I have to plug it in because it's very low. All I use it for at my first job is to check the time every once in a while. I dont play games on it, surf the web, etc. WHY should my battery be draining this fast when Im not using it!? Im seriously thinking about trading this POS in. Im so tired of this laggy, battery sucking phone!
I have the same problem. I turn on the mobile network only when I use it. ill turn on network with a full charge and check the news for maybe 5-10 minutes and my battery is down 10-15%. I haven't always had this problem. It started maybe a couple weeks ago. I'm using Android 2.1 leaked v3. I cent wait for my phone upgrade. This phone would be perfect for me if it wasn't for the HORRIBLE battery life.

I thought the same thing because it said cdma/auto prl when I got to like step 2 but I hadn't pushed menu and gotten the force close which then brought up the screen that did have gsm listed instead.
Just make sure you go through all the steps listed there...
Just out of curiousity, which Facebook version do you have? You have an app keeping your phone awake 100% of the time which is why your battery is draining and the 2 latest versions of the Facebook app are known to do that. If it isn't that app, download Spare Parts from the market and use it to check what is using the most under Partial Wake usage, the app and the top using the most battery will be the culprit.
Ok, have had a new Galaxy Tab 10.1 for three days, and the battery is draining at a horrible rate. I left it this morning with 29% at home. Came back 12 hours later and the thing is dead. Rebooted and it confirms it's at 2%.
This can't be normal, can it? I've tried fiddling with the settings- turning off wifi, turning it on, etc... but this is just horrible.
Anyone have suggestions or settings I should flip?
yeah something wrong there. might want to check check your running apps, or if possible do a factory reset. I'm assuming you didn't root it yet. my tab does not drain at all when idle
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
It's definitely not the Tab in general. Battery life is fantastic. Mine loses not one percent when I don't use it.
Try setting the Wifi sleep policy to shut down Wifi when the screen is off. Then there are the standard procedures like turning off GPS and Bluetooth when you are not using them. Also there is a pretty comprehensive battery statistic in the settings which should help identifying battery hungry apps.
Make sure you have WiFi set to turn off when the screen is off, I think it is set to always on by default.
When the tab is asleep with all radio's off the battery should drain about 1% per hour. There are also apps available in the market that can also do some pretty detailed tracking of what is draining the battery if you continue to have problems.
I have tried everything. I tried various ROM's, SpeedMod kernels T27, T29, T32, and T39, and the stock ROM, and NOTHING is working! I cleared out my Dalvik and cache partitions obviously, and I caliberated the battery. Nothing is working!
I used the phone for 8 hours today, and the battery dropped to 50% in those 8 hours. I had the display on for 1 hour and 30 minutes, browsing Tapatalk and the internet. I made no phone calls at all. Besides that I listened to music for 45 minutes, but that's it. The rest of the time it was on standby in my pocket. This is running Lite'ning ROM v6.1 and Speedmod Kernal T39. However, no matter what combination of kernels and roms I try, the drain is pretty similar.
I have the stock android weather and news app set to update every 3 hours, and K9 Mail to fetch new mail every 15 minutes.
This is with Wi-Fi off, GPS off, and bluetooth off.
What could be affecting my battery so much? Is there any information I should post here from my phone so you guys could see what is causing this? I can't even use my phone for one day without the battery completely draining.
Well, you problaby already knew this, but the real life-sucker in the SGS II is definately it's screen. Get the brightness down low and make the screen timeout after 15 seconds so that you don't waste any unecessarily battery.
Can't help to much otherwise, just got my SGS II a week ago, still getting to know it myself. But hope that helps abit anyway.
There may be other apps synching in background. In my case fluent news trend to hang around. Check if every app is doing background work.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I can assure you mine is worse, drops to 50% in 6-7 hours, but as the other person has stated, the screen is the culprit, when I used the phone longer than you, I would expect worse battery life.
Gosh how I wish this phone was equipped with more energy-efficient, less bling bling screen. SAMOLED+ is only good for show-off, which I usually don't do.
Theres an app called betterbatterystats on the xda forum. Use that and see whats draining your battery, especially in the wakeloks department.

First of all I think you are wrong when you say OLED uses more power than LCD. Remember how these screens work, LCD lets light go through and is completely back-lit all the time while OLED screens emit light from pixels that are not black.
On the other hand, the real problem with SGS2, in my opinion, is the reason phone never goes to sleep. If you take a look at screenshot I attached you'll see that screen on my phone was not on all the time but battery drain continued. Also, "awake" bar is full meaning phone never got the chance to go to sleep.
I have no clue how to fix this, maybe someone with more experience can help. I use to have HTC Hero on which I could turn off "Always on" in network settings and get phone to sleep often and save battery that way.

Display drain about 1% every 4 minutes of browsing, this is in your case 22,5% .

Bad apps?
I've had bad battery drain for the last week.
I've rooted, romed, unrooted, changed every setting I could. Nothing has really worked. I'm was losing between 5-10% an hour.
Then I just wiped everything and re-installed the stock 2.3.3 firmware and started re-installing apps an hour at a time.
Battery burn was going good about 1% an hour installing about 5 apps in an hour until I installed TM World Clock.
Within an hour I had a 10% battery decrease and Watchdog saying that Event/0 and Suspend were consuming the 90% of the CPU. I uninstalled...it went back to a 1% and hour battery drain for 3 hours.
Re-installed TW World Clock to see it was a fluke. Within 10 min. the phone dropped 2%. and Watchdog started sending warnings for Event/0 and Suspend again.
There might be certain apps that aren't allowing the Galaxy S2 to go into a deep sleep...explaining why the problem is so random among different owners pending on installed apps.
Hey,
I could not find a thread like this via the search bar, so I am opening one up. How much battery does your stock S3 consume by just lying there? I am losing about ten percent overnight, which seems a bit too much for me. Is that normal?
Thanks!
Wait till you get about 70 percent discharge overnight then you'll have something to worry about.

All depends upon what running .

At night I turn off wifi and data, my battery drops 3%, with data on and wifi off about 5% ( about 8 hours)
Based on reviews on the net it is possible to get it drop 6% in 16 hours with data and wifi on, not getting to this myself but happy enough.

It is very normal for Stock rom to consume that much battery.. However you can save more battery by going into Wifi > advanced > Keepy wifi on during sleep > Select Only when plugged in... Plus disabling wake up commands such as the ones for S Voice, or Google Now can increase battery life upto a great extent.
Also try turning off location services for apps that you don't use that often or the ones that don't really require location services that much.
I had 10 to 15% drop the night, after installing Chrome (because of google sync issue)
but after removed it.. im back to 6-7%
Anyway Dolphin is better
I can only say from memory ...

I can only say from memory - a very clean S3 should get at most 2-3% discharge overnight (even with WiFi, data, BT and GPS started). That might no longer be achievable once you have a number of programs that interact and keep the CPU from staying into deep sleep.
Currently I am seeing at most 1-2% with my configuration - but that involves closing the 4 above before going to bed.(and to get to that point I had to drop a number of programs that were bad in this regard).
Do your own tests with that - look around after BetterBatteryStats.apk or something like that!

Can I ask what your current configuration is?
I am currently running Omega v32.1 with the stock kernel.
I hardly use my phone during the day as I am at work for 12 hours, maybe send a few texts. 3g and sync are always on
I take it off charge at 5.30AM and when I get home at like 8PM it is down to less than 10%... and thats not even heavy use.
I have calibrated the battery using that batterycalibrate app for root users..
So I got a galaxy s3 from kogan, and it arrived with android 4.1.1 on it, but as soon as I connected it to my home wifi, it downloaded 4.1.2
i'm not sure if my battery life is the norm, but i get up at 6:30, get my phone off the charger at about 7:15, catch the bus for about an hour to get to school, and by the time i'm at school, the battery is already down to 90%, or lower, and that is only with the occasional facebook message or comment, and a few snapchats. by the end of my school day (3:05) i have about 50% battery, with only maybe half an hour total useage since i got of the bus at school. by the time i get home (5 ish) i'm usually down to 30-15%, depending. i don't play any games on my phone (because i'm trying to save battery), and my phone is connected to the wifi at school and the wifi at home but it is off during the travel time in between. I have power saving on and my screen brightness down to the lowest with auto brightness on. is this normal or is my battery draining faster than it should?
p.s. I am not rooted and on the stock rom 4.1.2

Try disabling the notifications from Facebook and Messenger. It's probably the main cause for your battery drain.
Also try to disable the Sync option, Mobile Data (turn on when needed, not all the time! you won't believe how much battery it saves) etc etc..
I turned off notifications for facebook (but not messenger, all my friends are on prepaid so i dont txt much, i use messenger instead) and sync, and the battery still drops the same! my battery usage says that media server is using at least %20 of the battery! why is this?
you may try using the apps Greenify and DS Battery Saver

lol ... you can switch of everything and have a nice paperweight
Now seriously... If you don't use data then in Settings-Network switch to GSM only, set sync to 2 or 4 hours (depends how many emails you getting).
Fully charge the battery (switched OFF when charging), when charged (100%) don't turn ON, remove battery and touch the battery connections on the phone for about 15 seconds. Then reinsert battery, boot into Bootloader and go to Advanced - Battery stats and clear them. Then reboot... You should be fine after this.
Root phone and use greenify.
Also remove useless apps, which you can find in running tab

maybe your phone doesn't go into deep sleep mode, use better battery stats to see what causes a kernel wakelock
hit thanks if it helps
I came from a ICS custom ROM and kernel and now have a JB (4.1.2) custom ROM and kernel.
And I don't know if it's me, or now the battery drains faster. I have done all the things a man can do to stop draining: minimun brightness, not a single one automatic synchronization, maaany system apps frozen, using Greenify to hibernate another bunch of them, power saver mode activated... anything I have ever read since I got my android phone (more than a year).
And still, with only a few minutes on WhatsApp and other few on wifi, I only get like a day, more or less.
Is that normal? I want to know the average, because I don't know if it is my phone/battery, or the new JB, or if all of this is just in my head.
Also, viewing streaming videos over wifi drains a lot. That is normal, right? Like two hours of video over wifi, is that OK?
Thanks.
You can try a custom kernel or custom rom xD

That's what I already have...
I just want to know if this is normal or not.
2 hours of video on a HD display will surely drain the battery and even warms up the phone. that is normal.

It's also normal that I hardly get a day of battery with normal-low use?

maybe your phone doesn't go into deep sleep mode, use better battery stats to see what causes a kernel wakelock
hit thanks if it helps
