[Q] Installing viper rom hboot 1.5 - HTC EVO 3D

Ok, I got my evo 3d about 2 hours ago. I used the roll up sticky to find out how to root. I used htc dev, all went as expected. I now have twrp and superuser. So the first ROM im gonna try is viper rom. I know I have limitations with having used htc dev. So my question is... Do I need to do anything other than flash the rom from recovery? like flash a kernel with flash image gui beforehand? It states in the op that it uses the stock kernel so I think ill be ok with just wiping and flashing but I just wanna make sure. Please be easy on me, as I know this is a noob question that youll say I could have found by searching. I did search a little. Thanks in advance.
Edit..nvm, I got it.

If it uses stock kernel, then wipe everything through recovery and flash. And if after flashing you face any issues , flash boot.img using fastboot then working kernel.zip from recovery.
But i would suggest you to use PC to boot recovery then wipe then flash. So you will face no issues.

[Q] Flashed viperROM to Evo 3D, now WiFi won't work...

Hello,
I am trying to get viperROM to work correctly on my Evo 3D. I would have posted in that thread but I don't have 10 posts yet so I'm not allowed...
I wasn't thinking and I accepted the OTA update when it came out.
So I used this tutorial and did the HTC unlock and then flashed CWM 4.0.1.4 to my phone.
I used CWM to back up my stock ROM, then I used it to install viperROM.
Well, it worked except for the fact that the WiFi wouldn't turn on. It just said "Error".
I have been reading these forums for hours now and my eyes are glazing over but I figure it's something to do with the radio I guess?
I tried to do some forum searches but the search function is apparently down for nightly maintenance.
Anyways, I restored my backup and thank God WiFi is working again.
Can someone please point me in the right direction to fixing this?
Thanks.
Did you do a full wipe before you installed viperRom?
I don't believe you can use Viperrom on your phone because it is a 2.3.3 rom and your kernel is only for 2.3.4 roms. When you took the OTA and your phone upgraded to the 1.50 bootloader you lost the ability to install kernels and write to the boot partition. With out the proper kernel you will have problems running any 2.3.3 roms properly. Look for a rom that is already upgraded to 2.3.4 and give that a try. For now I would flash back to stock and wait for Viperboy to update his rom.
help please?
I try RCMIX 2.2.3 and recover HTC Rom but stcuk boot HTC logo.
Can i replaces viperROM ? how i can?
I'm Newbie.
Thanks

Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
Buy a phone in the XDA phone list, check its forum sections (General, Q&A and Development) for some kind of sticky guides, follow the guides.

First you need to go to the section for your phone. Start by read the stickies and any pertinent information on radios, kernels, and ROMs. Then find the rom, kernel, or radio you want and read it. Start with the OP and then keep reading. Whatever questions you may have will probably have already been answered. If not, then is the time to ask questions in the appropriate Q& A thread. Good luck and enjoy your phone!

This is the best thing to do if you really want to "learn" about android phones, I read almost every thread for my phone for about 3 months before I even rooted my phone. By that time I could root my phone successfully and fix any problems myself along the way.

I had the same problem as you guys. Try flashing the rom and chad's ics leak kernel in 4ext recovery and see if that does it. This worked for me.
thanx

CM10 4.1JB to new OTA and a stock rooted/

Hey Guys,
I'm kinda lost and haven't found anything the forum that remotely resembles my problem.
I have a rooted EVO 4G LTE with CM10 JB 4.1. I'm sick of the ****ty camera picture quality and constant freezing while taking pictures (just freezes then the phone reboots) so i'm trying to go to a more of a stock rom that I'll just customize with launchers etc.
My question is, since I can't update the OTA from the rom, do i need to flash the new kernel and the stock rooted rom and if so what order? The other question I had if I do need to install the new kernel does it have to be in the root of the internal SD or external SD?
I tried flashing some of the newer stock rooted roms and none of them would work. I would get the message (bad) when trying to update through recovery. I thought at first that just meant a corrupted zip file but when trying 3 different roms that all said the same thing I thought maybe it could be because the kernel is different then what I have.
At any rate, if anyone could help with a link to some kind of guide (if anyone knows of one) or just some general directions that would be insanely helpful.
Thanks for any help offered!
Download the Rom of your choice. Pull the boot img from that Rom. That is the kernel you need to flash. The fact that your asking this question I would reccomend using the app " flash image gui". You can flash the boot img from your current Rom then immediately boot into recovery and flash the Rom.

Haha, yeah. Thanks! I like to dabble but I wouldn't call myself any kind of pro. I just wasn't sure if the rom would stay stable if I updated the kernel will still in the OS. Anyways, thanks again! :good:
Hey man I didn't wanna come off like I'm some kind of expert cause I know enough to get myself in trouble that's about it, but I have some expierence with a s-on device.
If your not sure just read some more. A good thread is "don't panic" in the Q&A section.
You should be fine tho
good luck

[Q] [ROM HELP] MIUI Rom/No WIFI [URGENT]

Hello XDA,
I am new to these forums and I was wondering whether or not anybody can help me with my issue. Recently, I flashed the MIUI Rom(2.12.21) on my HTC Evo 3D (Virgin Mobile). I didn't flash any custom kernels, as I am a noob to rooting/flashing roms and just recently learned how to do so. So I flashed MIUI, and everything went well. I started up my phone, and everything was smooth and I was happy with the rom. But, for some reason, whenever I try to turn on the wifi, it keeps getting stuck on the "Turning on" state. I've tried restarting the phone with no luck. I searched about this issue online and heard about a WIFI fix for MIUI? I'm not really sure, but if someone could help me that would make my day . I have no other issues with the rom, it is an excellent one. Thank you everyone, I hope to get an answer soon. Bye!

EDIT #2: Okay so I tried to flash an earlier version of MIUI (2.8.17) and was successful, but the WIFI was still stuck on "Turning on..." everytime I try. Can someone please help with this issue? Is there a certain kernel I must flash for this to work? Thank you!
EDIT #3: SOLVED. Had to reflash kernel seperately. Thank you too coal686 for helping!

EDIT: I tried to reflash, but again no luck. I am currently flashing an older version of MIUI for Evo 3D, and I'll post how it goes.
Are you s-on? If so, you must flash the kernel separately. Use either fastboot or smart flash in 4ext recovery.

I am s-on. Which kernel am I supposed to flash, can you link me too it or give me a name? And what's 4ext recovery? Is that just the normal recovery? Sorry for being such a noob, but thank you!

The kernel is the boot.img file from the Rom zip. 4ext is a custom recovery. If you search this site, you'll find it (I'm on my phone).

A couple weeks ago I flashed the Midnight rom for my Evo V, and I flashed the boot.img file seperately. I used TeamWin recovery to do so, and it worked. So can I do the same with the MIUI? Again, thank you for the help.

Of course I post how it goes!
4ext custom recovery
The nice thing about that recovery is that the recovery asks if you are s-off and if you are s-on then it auto flashes the kernel separately for you.
