First off, as we all know, the flicker is related to animations on the screen. Although I made an interesting discovery. It doesn't happen if you're charging your phone from the wall. Not sure if anyone else has stumbled onto this but I figured I'd share.
...I bet you all thought this was another "WHY IS MY SCREEN FLICKERING BLUE?!?!?!" thread. Gotcha!

LOL, yes I was just thinking really ? Actually, I really don't notice it that much anyway either it's just my eyes or my phone .
I hadn't noticed the blue flicker until I ran Joelz rom. Then I only noticed it when I was in the settings menu. Now that I am back on Nils Business Sense, I don't see it at all.
The only time I've seen it was when watching a video I posted on Photobucket. It's very strange but haven't noticed it anywhere else.

Hi everyone!, I'm having this really odd issue with my S2. I've only had it about a week now and this could have been happening all along though I didn't notice it.
Basically If the screen is off and I hit the power button is has this really slight flicker as the screen comes on. It's almost like a single line down the screen right before the wallpaper appears. It's also right-justified on the screen and always in the same spot.
Has anyone else had this issue? It can be reproduced by simply hitting the power button to shut the screen off then hitting it again to turn it on.
Thanks!
Edit: Also the screen doesn't always fade on. 3/5 times it will just "instant-on" where I'll hit the power button and it will instantly show the lock screen tile instead of "fading" into it. Does this happen to anyone else or does it ALWAYS fade in?
I'm probably just being paranoid but I'd rather replace the phone quickly to avoid actually sending it to manufacturer.
Thanks again!
You should take a video of it so we can see if it is normal. I don't see what you describe, and not sure the phone is supposed to "fade in" to the lock screen. Mine is always instant on.
I once flashed to Litening ROM and it had that flicker (lightning style) as a feature I guess, is it the same problem OP stated?
Regards.
Saw it once two days ago, vertically on the extreme left of the screen. Haven't seen it since, but it was very rapid - blink-and-you'll-miss-it job. Can't say it worries me. On Revolution FWIW.

sorry I can't take a video since this is the only device that I own that is capable of taking video.
anyway, yeah - it's really quick. And it's vertically down the screen. I kind of assumed that it was the backlight turning on but I'm pretty certain that happens on the sides right?
Right now it's 10:00 and this issue happens right where the "1" is on the clock at the top of the screen. So starting from that 1 all the way to the bottom.
Again it's REALLY fast - but it's noticeable, I'd have no problem showing it to someone in front of me. It just looks like a single line about the same width as the "1" as well. It almost seems like the one tiny line is showing before the rest of the screen, like if the screen were a "loading process" that line would be the first thing to appear before the rest gets backlit.
Not sure if it matters but it's the model I9100M from Virgin, just incase they are made differently somehow.
This phone has no backlight. The LED's are all individually lit.

Hmm, not the same problem as me - certainly nothing to do with the time here - it was in the afternoon when it happened with me, and my lockscreen clock's in 12 hour format. Clock's also at the bottom of my screen.
Been trying to reproduce it, and can't.

No no, I wasn't saying that the clock had anything to do with it, I was just trying to describe where the line appears on screen. I was also talking about the clock that appears at the very top, not the one on the lock screen. If I just continually tap the power button on and off I can see the "line" appear every time exactly in that spot.
It's pretty noticeable, unless you have the phone away from you - so if you don't see it then it probably isn't happening.
Does anyone think I should return this and get another? I don't really want to run into issues later and have to send to manufacturer. Is this problem big enough that I could get it replaced without issue?
Thank's for the replies!
Sorry, misunderstood. Definitely not my problem, I have no clock in the status bar.
If it happens every time, I'd probably return it if I was you - could be the precursor of something more serious.
Hi again, Thanks for the replies. I realized today that the issue is really only noticeable if you're in a dark room. Even in a semi-lit room it's almost unnoticeable which is probably why I hadnt seen it thus far.
If anyone wouldn't mind flicking the lights off and taking a look I'd appreciate it. If not I'll just return it.
thanks again forum!
I experience it too (at least I think we are talking about the same thing)..it's like it's stuttering and lagging after being in standby. So the first time it renders the lockscreen, the first few frames seem to be rendered at a different pace. If you turn the screen on after a good break, it'll likely do it, but after a few times in a row it instantly shows the screen.
Perhaps it relates to how big the wallpaper for the lockscreen is. I'm not sure, but I've had some huge 2mb pictures set as wallpapers for the lockscreen, and afterwards I think I decided to select a smaller image. I don't know if it was just a placebo effect, but anyways..it still does it with my current picture. I don't really care. You could try a different lockscreen from android market and see if it helps, but I think every SII suffers from this.
I have this exact issue too and it really annoys me! I also bought the phone from Virgin if that is relevant. It's a white streak on the left of the screen for me and only happens every so often. So what's the prognosis? A software fault? Hopefully fixed in a subsequent firmware update? Or a hardware fault worth repairing?
I've had my Evo for 1.5 weeks now and last Thursday I started having an odd flickering issue with the screen. On any light colors, ie pictures, lighter app backgrounds...you can see the colors flickering as if the refresh rate isn't quick enough. It's not the whole screen, only the area of color that the screen doesn't like. It started with only on max brightness, but now I can notice it on 50% brightness. I'm assuming this isn't normal and I should exchange my phone? Thanks.
Completely stock rom unrooted.
Sounds like bad backlight, replace.
I have noticed this as well. Especially going to the Play Store. The odd part is that it doesn't show up within games, at least for me.
If you turn off auto backlight does it happen? I think I see what appears to be flicker but it is the backlight adjusting. Happens when I first turn the screen on as the weather comes in. Also, it happens when I go back and forth from my messaging app to the homescreen. It is like the backlight is adjusting the brightness slightly. If I turn off auto brightness I get nothing.

Mine is not set on auto. It does it when I manually set it to around 60 percent or higher. It's not obnoxious but it is obvious on lighter colors. Light grays, some whites, light blues. Otherwise my phone is perfect and I hesitate to take it back in case a replacement brings a worse problem. I just wonder if it is something that would get worse. It has stayed the same so far.

FYI to OP and anyone else who may see the flicker. After doing a little reading it looks like the One X was plagued with this as well. HTC released an OTA that seems to have fixed the issue. You can follow a lot of the progress regarding it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597448
Looks like it was the exact same thing that I have noticed on my device. To save you some reading, you can skip to the last 10 pages or so and see that the update they sent out fixed most peoples issues. Hopefully they will have one pushed for us at some point.
Thanks for the link. so now I don't know if I hold onto my phone and hope for an update, or go and exchange for a new one.
I want to root my phone, but not until this screen flicker is taken care of!
I ONLY have this issue in the stock messaging app. Never any other time! It's so odd. But I'm not worried because of the fact that it's isolated to an app.

finally i know I'm not crazy!! This has been happening to me too. Hope an OTA will resolve.
I'd say maybe message HTC support and let them know so that if they aren't aware already they will be.

I went ahead and contacted support, I'll let you know what they say if they get back to me before I leave for vacation tomorrow. I suggest anyone else having an issue do the same.
i get a weird flicker too, but its like the app closes real fast and opens back up at lightning speed.
it doesnt look hardware related, just software.

Is this happening to you in the messaging app only, or all the time? I wasn't sure who you were responding to.

There's a setting in the developers options for flickering the screen, check there?

That is a whole different kind of flickering, I think that option is to help induce seizures Thank you though!

I'm having this issue too. I've only seen it maybe a half dozen times and it's always been while typing a text message if I remember correctly. Mine is just like a brief millisecond blur.
so am I one of the VERY few having this issue? It looks like it's ALL OVER the One X forums, but no one is saying anything here. Most of the replies in this thread don't sound like my issue either, but the majority of the OneX complaints sound exactly like my issue. It's isolated to lighter colors, especially grays. It gets worse as my brightness is turned up. For example, if I look at a picture, only the blues may flicker, while the rest of the picture is solid.
Anyone?

I am having what you are having. I did get a reply back from HTC. It was a generic reply and one of the things they suggested was to do a battery pull. This was an email I sent to the EVO 4G LTE specific thread. I just sort of laughed it off. Mine hasn't become any worse and everything else on my device is perfect, even the color balance settled in, so I just decided to hang on to it and maybe they will fix it in an update like they did with the One X.
great to see a new thread picking up more attention than the one i started. i noticed this on my first evo and replaced it twice! all three had/have the screen flicker. i strongly believe its software related like others have mentioned, so dont give up on it yet
This has been bothering me for some time now, every so often my screen will start to flicker but then goes away. What does It mean at times it goes all black then I see stripes from either left or the right sides...
My screen does this at times also. Although it is pretty annoying, it doesn't seem to cause any issues that I have been able to find.m it seems as if it happens when running graphically intense games/apps/or web pages. But, there really is no rhyme or reason to when this occurs. It is completely random in my experiences. I just hope it isn't a sign of failing hardware...

Hi all
Sorry for a newbie question.
I have a Sony Z Ultra which I really like, but recently the screen sometimes just starts rolling for no reason. I cannot read anything, and it often does not stop. I turn the screen off, then on, and it often doesn't show anything but then it does it is still rolling. I have to hard reset, and even then have to do that a few times before it starts up normally. It seems to be happening more frequently. Any ideas on what I can do?
Thanks so much
Craig

It is more like rolling upwards, like an old tv that is not tuned to the channel properly (I am showing my age here because I still remember that)
I cannot take a screenshot because everything on the screen rolls, so cannot access the screenshot function or anything else for that matter.
I have found that when it happens I bend the phone backwards a little and it stops. This makes me think that perhaps the case may be slightly bent from a drop or from having it in my pocket which is somehow causing the problem.
It is not doing it now; I hope it won't return

From what you describe it sounds like your flex cable is causing the issue.
If that's the case, I could be wrong you can take it apart or return it to Sony. I'd just buy a new one. Sounds like a flex cable issue to me
A final development in the story of my phone. The rolling came back, got worse, and then I had times where I would push the power button to light up the screen out of power-saving screen off mode, and nothing would happen. The back-light would light up, but just a blank, black screen...
I sent it to the repair center and the quote came back. It would need a whole new screen.
The cost was going to be pretty high, so I looked online and bought a whole new phone for only 60 cents more than the repair quote!
I just hope my new phone lasts longer than the old one
Good evening, I have been the owner of a Pixel 6 for about a week. Now I have noticed a small graphics error in this regard. When selecting a message (for example on Discord) small white pixels appear on the display. For understanding I also attach a short video where you can see the pixels. This is not only on Discord. I also notice it on Telegram for example....
The bug bothers me a lot as a perfectionist. Is there any way to fix this bug?
I would also be happy to receive any other tips about my Pixel 6. I have already loaded a custom kernel, which I am very happy with. But the error was also present before loading the kernel. As I said before, I'm happy to take tips and tricks here as well. For example, I was also advised against a custom ROM. Is that really useless or can I get more experience and performance out through another Rom?
Took me a while to spot it. I might be wrong, but I believe that's a feature, not a bug. It's similar to the animation that appears when you plug in the charger and in some other places around the OS.

Your guess can be right.
I hate this "feature", haha.
Animation or the pointer circle?
Animation. Look carefully and you'll see the Pixel wave radiating out from the spot where his finger touched.
OP, this is normal, though I can understand why you might not like it.
