Cdesai once gave me a non-working kernel that had swapped /data and /system
Herpderp Defy.

yeah emo thats tricking the kernel to mount our sd-ext partition as /data instead of phone data...
so it will work like sd-ext but just won't require anything software...
that should be easy to implement in our kernels

wow. calling devs..

That's a good idea. Then what about this? In HTC desire dev thread talking about 8MB hack, and previously I saw in G1 dev thread is 10MB hack.

That's exactly what I did: The modded boot image, on startup, mounts /data (the internal memory) on SDcard 2nd partition (if there is one, of course)...
...if your second partition (EXT4 formatted due to safety reasons) is 1Gb wide... your internal memory will be 1Gb wide...
That's all!
After that I received many requests for Galaxy FIT and Galaxy ACE via PM...
Actually these three phones get the same kernel (really the same deep inside!) but few drivers not related to boot process...
I was easy able to repeat the tweak for Galaxy FIT, testing the modded images on my Mini loosing only the two physical button control but booting fine ...
And I repeated the tweak for Galaxy ACE too! read here... (mini tweak, FIT tweak and ACE tweak are pretty the same... no "one byte" of difference!)
But due to different screen resolution I cannot test it on my own... (Mini bootloader doesn't handle rle images different from 240x320, hanging...)
The images, actually modded, should work fine (99% sure) but, if there is somebody "adb shell aware" or "terminal emulator aware" I can show three simple "console commands" to check for it 100% without need to flash anything...
After that... Let's Mod whatever you want !

[SCRIPT]Ram Optimization Script

First:Credits to Juwe11
Check out this RAM Optimising Script.
I flashed this script and now my phone is a lot smoother. All the little things such as opening/closing keyboard, scrolling and switching between open apps is faster.Tested with Xgin 5.3
To use this script
1.You will need to have cwm recovery-available with minicm and xgin with dual recovery mode(afaik)
2.Download Juwe_RAM_Script-CWM.zip from last post of this page.
3.Flash in cwm recovery
Post your experience in this thread
Devs if you and everyone experiences better results, you should include this in roms
Could u create with xrecovery too? For kuyo rom
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk
after i flash at cwm,how can i know does it works ?
anyway to check ?
i've tested it..nothing change...i dont see any difference..tried in xgin5.3
Sorry but i don't know how.
If devs find these useful, they might include this in their roms.
If you went to link the you can try the second method mentioned there.
Unpack Juwe_RAM_Script.zip ,copy the file into /system/etc/init.d/ using rootexplorer or like and restart. That should do it.
Just tested and can't see any changes really and quadrant score didn't change it just went from 1063 to 1065 :/

Look to /system/etc/init.d/ if there is file named S97ramscript
I think that there is wrong mountpoint in updater-script (X8 has different mountpoints)
Strange,it definitely helped me.
Keep an eye out ,try apps which used to lag before.

Right I manually installed it. Not really convinced it does a lot. Quadrant score went from 1065 to 1079. Not really a big enough difference to confirm that it works but it doesn't slow it down so you might as well flash :L

I read somewhere that more memory is bad on an Android system. I mean they wrote that if you have low memory free, then the android cached what you will need = faster system. Am I right or wrong?

Is there a way to switch between cyangenmod and a custom stock rom?

Hi
I was wondering if theres a way to switch between cyangen and a stock rom, i want to try out cyangen but it doesnt seem to have enough of the features i regularly use but at the same time i would like to use it for roms only so i can use my ps3 controller with it.
- Going to another ROM from CM7?
You can go back and forth freely between CM7 and other ROMs via ROM Manager or ClockworkMod recovery as the file systems are the same and nandroid backup/restore works to go between ROMs.
That's what it says in the first post of cyanogenmod rom

I know you can do a nandroid backup but i was thinking more along the lines of running it off the sd card or somehow partitioning the system partition so you have 2 of them there. If i did the nandroid way, i would have to keep a large portion reserved for the backup and i would have to do it every time i wanted to play a game which would ruin the life of the flash memory and it would be a pain generally. I saw on All About Android there was an app called boot manager but i dont know if that will work on the SGS II

If everyone ask questions like the way you do, xda will be flooded with duplicate threads.
Instead of asking why people can't give you the answer you need, why don't you ask yourself why you can't describe your problem properly?

when you ask a ques try to wait for sometime ,let someone read your ques first before you go post again... anyway
the thing you asking is normal , the option only activates if your file system is rls, when you click it to convert it to ext4 it will convert it and after that will be grayed out since it wont find any rls partition to convert
and if you wana check your file system see above it where it showes internal memory something and your current file system i dont remmber it exactly as i dont have it now .. anyway
this clears you now ? hit thanks if it clears

Anyway, i can't be bothered to flame you HOWEVER you will do well to heed my advice to read replies PROPERLY because 70% of what you read here might be instructions and failing to read them properly could possibly render your Ace inoperable.
We are all noobs once but that doesn't mean that we are in any way incapable of reading instructions/replies carefully.

system, data, cache i dont think they are options they are just their to tell if they are on rls or ext4 i guess, Actually i have used ext manager, once only in blackhawk Rom by ketut i was just checking it i cant say why it is showing you this ... is the convert to rls option active ? if yes try converting it back to rls and try again if ext4 gets active..
i guess someone else can tell something more about this ...

it should detect it as another version and prompt you whether you want to overwrite or not. Go ahead and click yes. If no such prompt just uninstall the original one by chainfire and install the one by ketut after that.

Help needed with a2sd

Okie guys...here i come to final thing that i wud love to do on my ace. Probably i ll rest fir few months after that.
I flashed back dxkt5 2.3.6 today.
Installed cf-root b84
Lagfree v2
Converted filesystems to ext4
I am using link2sd app for now with ext4 partition on my sd card.
I heard thar dt a2sd is better than link2sd as it allows to move data as well to sd card. Hence, am planning to enable it as it comes with cf root.
Can anybody plz guide me how to do it with minimal efforts.
By minimal efforts i mean..without having to re install my apps.
If thats unavoidable i m ok with it. But please guide me how to proceed with it.

[GT-S5282] Fix Recovery Key Combo Problem for Galaxy Star Duos

Code:
[B]Discalimer:[/B]
* Your warranty is now void.
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about this method before
* flashing! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
2010:
There was an unlucky batch of some Samsung GT-I9000 Galaxy S phones that cannot be put into download and recovery modes using the standard three-button combos. This poses a huge problem for the users of these phones.
The problem is caused by a faulty SBL (secondary bootloader) in these devices. Luckily, a fix exists for this issue, involving flashing a custom ‘fixed’ secondary bootloader to your device, that should enable the 3-button combos once again.

Congratulations! Samsung, you've done it again..
So there was, a fix for Galaxy S, and today i bring to you all sgsd users the fix for Galaxy Star Duos. :highfive:

Please note this process is highly dangerous, and can permanently brick your device if not followed properly. While the success rate is over 99%, proceed at your own risk. The instructions provided herein are ‘as is’ only, with no liability on our part.
Flash Procedures:
For those we have already installed CWM 6.0.3.7,
I have also uploaded a CWM Flashable zip. Just flash the fixrecoverycombo(gt-s5282)cwmflashable.zip with CWM and you're done.! [/I]
Or for those who want to flash with Odin.
* Extracted the attacthed 7z file (use 7zip) you will get a 2mb tar.md5 file..
* Just flash the extracted tar.md5 file with Odin.. normal PDA flash.. DON'T TICK ANY OTHER CHECKBOXES.
See the attached screenshot for refrence.
If you don't know how to flash files with Odin then this really shouldnt be your first try.

Btw another issue I have noticed with star is when we connect it to pc... Why does it show up as portable media player and not mass storage... ??
I have seen that in other samsung galaxy phones there are options like connect device as USB mass storage,Media player... Whereas our phone has only 2 options- Connect as MTP and something else... The problem with these connections is that I cant do multiple jobs... Like copying and pasting and deleting from the same device... Its gives me error like GT-S5282 is busy or GT-S5282 is in use Try later... And normally I use teracopy for copying files but Tera copy doesnt work with our device... My only question did Samsung create this device as a joke... ??

Its feature of Android 4.1.2+ you can't connect your device as Mass Storage.. Only MTP and PTP(Camera)
Maybe you are using an old device with Android prior to 4.1.2 ??
There's an app you can use to enable Mass Storage mode in newer Androids i forgot what was it.

i got bootloop due to v6 supercharger
It really was the biggest pain in the........ patience level

you mean.. this recovery key combo problem.. you also coulnd't boot into recovery... well.. now you can.. and it's really helpful to be able to boot into recovery... and i'm glad i could help you..
thanks man.. thanks very much...
or you mean.. compiling kernel from source?? i already did that.. 10 Governors (spreadbum has messed up sources.. can't add smartass, and others ), deep sleep, swap support, zRam, etc..
too bad it doesn't work on stock roms or stock based roms.. but it works on CM10.1 i'm like dafq ???

well.. if kernel doesn't support ram swap.. can a ram swap app work?? same goes for other apps.. if kernel doesn't support how app work??
and don't tell about uni init.d app... coz it's not feature of kernel... but feature in ramdisk.. to add init.d you only need to add 4 lines in ramdisk.. ask sambathpkr

Well init.d was emulated so can usb mass storage huh?
Who wants the real thing if it can easily be emulated
Well lets leave at tht
Can u add the feature in kernel?
Mtp is a real pain
Disconnecys randomly
Crappy speed in my class 10 card bah!!!!!!
I have to spend hours if i am copying multiple files
Eg real racin 3 data copy took me 2 hrs approx

Nice work mate!!! What do u mean by "Monkeys test the stuff for this device" You should not say like this. As people take risks and test stuffs, maybe in some handsets some stuff work or maybe in other mobiles it might not. So u must not write like this
