SGS2 stuck in checkromreno hdv4 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed my sgs2 to the above. Currently on
Adroid version..2.3.6
Baseband ....i9100xxkI4
Kernel [email protected] s2 #k2-18
Build... Checkrom renohd v4
I saw an update in kitchpro that there's an update to k2-21. After downloading the file via the app, the phone restarted and when it boots, its still at k2-18.
I tried going into the particular download folder to run the file. Phone restarted with some txt flashing by the screen as if its doing some update. Upon bootup, I am still at k2-18.
Did I missed anything else? I would like to try out other kernel as well but not sure if it will crash my phone.
Any advice from seasoned users here?

Same Issue I think
I think I am having the same issue but when my x10 boots it goes to unlock screen and then I have this loop with "The application ADW.Launcher(process.android.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. The device then flashes the Cynogen loading screen and goes back to the unlock screen where I get the same message and the same loop. My xrecovery doesnt work and I cant seem to get the phone to use the SE update manager because it also says its up to date and doesnt provide a repair option. Can anyone help with this? I dont care which android os I go to at this point as long as it will work.
You probably need to use flashtool to flash the .52 baseband fix. Unless you have .52 already.
If that doesnt work, try flashing 2.1 totally over again with flashtool.

Can someone link me a guide as to how to flash the ROM with flash tool?
I flashed the baseband with it but I used xrecovery for the ROM itself because I could not work out how to use the flash tool.
I'll try reflashing the baseband when I get home tonight.

To get out of the bootloop just flash back to 2.1 and start over again. And make sure to follow the instalation instructions given by the dev when flashing the rom.
I still can't work it out.
The ROM is in a .zip file and the flash tool doesent seem to be picking it
up and when I unzip it there are no selectable files.

The file you use in flashtool is an .ftf file
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Then what do I do with a .zip?
yes, you DO flash the .zip file with xrecovery. step one, flash bb with flashtool, step two, start phone in xrecovery and flash .zip, reboot, and it should work.

first try SEUS that comes on your ROM( left click SE icon in 'my computer' install) if that one doesn't work, uninstall and install SEUS from SE site, but one of them will say 'repair'

Yeah, that's what I did the first time.
I just tried it again. Same problem.
Phone turns on, boots, sits on home screen for a few seconds then restarts.
Why would this happen?
EDIT: I managed to check the baseband version int he few seconds the phone was on, it says it is unknown. Would this cause this problem?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
The ftf files you need are on the second post. Just put the ftf file in the firmware section of the flashtool then flash it and follow the on screen instructions.
With baseband unknown go to the app on your phone called dev tools then go to bad behaviour and crash system sever when the phone reboots you should have signal and baseband will no longer be unkown.
I tried that, It keeps telling me I have my old Cyanogen mod for 2.2 installed when I do it.
In the process of running SEUS, hopefully it puts me back to 2.1

No, i dont think that is the cause of the rebooting cause ii get that a lot but the phone never reboots on me, what kernel are you on. Cause a lot of the custom kernels reboot when the screen is off or when you have the cpu up too high.

Screen Issues After Flashing Rom via Odin

I attempted to flash Simple Honey 4.0 (was using Bionix prevoiusly) via Odin and once the phone rebooted I saw a strange screen issue after it rebooted.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The screen looks like this before the boot animation kicks in. It also appears like this if I attempt to go into CWM. It also happens with RevolutionRom. Other than that the roms "seem" to work fine but I can't navigate through CWM because the screen is wonky. I tried searching for this issue but I'm not even sure what search terms to use. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

hi, thanks for your responses.
but as i said i am new to all this, and although i have a basic idea about what you are asking me to do, i would really really appreciate it if some one can send me a link or step by step instruction on what i have to do..
i am very familliar with getting my phone in download mode. And also have odin on my PC.. but i am guessing i have to use a different Tar file to flash stock (right?)
if my above guess is right, i think i will be stuck with the same issue where i select the tar file and click on "start'" in odin and everthing goes well until the phone is rebooted and after that for some reason my PC cant find the usb drives and doesnot recognise my phone..
sorry if i am asking silly questions,. but this is my first android phone (smart phone actually..) and my first attempt at upgrade / rooting
hi,
MY PHONE IS BACK!!!
i followed all the instruction to the T in the following link:
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...brick-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-android-2-3-6/
Thanks all for your time and suggestions..
Now that i have lost all my data i guess i can do some more "testing"
Congratulations and happy testing!!!
thanks..
i flashed stock rom, then rooted it (this time i was sucessful)
then installed CWM touch, made a backup,
Installed titanium backup, made backup again..
next step is to install the "OnlyOne HYFR B4" rom
Then to try and reset the flash counter
hope i am sucessful at this..
any other ROM recomendations?
glad to see you got it working..happy flashing homey!!!
Sounds like you didn't wait until your system files and dalvik cache was built b4 you jumped the fun and freaked out. Next time realize that after a ROM flash it could take up to 10 minutes to build the system and all you'll see is the pulsating Samsung logo.

Help! Tried to root after offical ics, now hanging at samsung loading screen.

My phone wont boot now.
It stays stuck at the 2nd Samsung during the boot up.
What happen was I updated today to offical ICS from my rooted gingerbread.
I updated via kias today to get official ICS, got it working and I noticed I didn't have cwm install anymore, so I followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218
It is pass it did it reboot thing, and never got past the 2nd "samsung" loading screen.
Anyone know how to get my phone booting again?
Flash the latest ICS kernel
I am not sure how to do that without cwm.
Before I updated to ICS when I press power + up down, it booted into CWM. Now when I do that I boots into Android System Recovery <3e>
EDIT: Good news.
Got CWM through installed though odin and then I restored to my gingerbread backup I made earlier.
Flash your roms via clockwork recovery mod from now on.
Drop the ROM .zip on sd card and then enter recovery. Wipe everything three times each then flash a uclf6 based ROM. Never touch Odin or kies again. Be happy. Ice cream sandwich is way better than ginger bread

Had the same exact problem. I "believe" the problem was that the CWM I flashed was perhaps incompatible with the official ICS?
I used Odin to flash cwm 5.5.0.4 as suggested and the fone was shut down with the hanging Samsung screen as you mentioned. I used the DL screen with Odin to the 600mb Team Objection ROM, which at least got me up and running again. I found out that CWM did in fact flash once the ROM was compatible with it. Updated CWM, then to finally get full stability, I had to do a factory reset after clearing both caches, then install the CM9 official.

Update: I installed official ICS again last night, looks like I lost my root and CWM.
I don't want to mess anything up again, so could you tell me exactly what CWM file you used to flash so it doesn't hang at samsung again?
I was having the same problems but I think I was doing it wrong. How are you flashing the root files? I upgraded from Kies, then used Odin to flash cwm touch (5.5.0.4 I think), make sure to let the reboot and that it's actually turned on and you can see your homescreen. Once you do that, THEN flash the superuser 3.0.7 in cwm. Let the phone reboot properly and it should be okay.
I was doing the same without the reboots and that's what caused me to hang at the logo, but after the above it worked well. Give it a try. For anyone who needs to flash the T-Mobile radios also let the phone reboot and then flash it because I was having issues with that which was fixed by letting the phone reboot.
Make nandroids at every step in case it does hang so you can just restore and try again instead of flashing everything all over again.

I've also tried rooting my AT&T Galaxy Note I717 which had recently upgraded to ICS via AT&T/Kies and my phone is stuck at the Samsung boot screen. While I'm no expert with rooting phones, I had no problem rooting it when it had GB installed so I figured I wouldn't have any problems rooting it again. Is flashing the ICS kernel the best way to fix this? Where do I get the ICS kernel from and how do I flash it?
Details: After my phone upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 kernel 3.0.8 (IMM76D.UCLF6), I followed some instructions to root it using Odin3-v1.85 and PDA->pda.tar. Other instructions used cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5 and odin_n1717_cwm_recovery_b4.tar and I tried those but to no avail. So I have CWM v5.5.0.4 installed but I don't know what to do next.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Update: I restored my phone back to a non-rooted working Android 4.0.4 by downloading the stock ROM for my phone (I717UCLF6_I717ATTLF6_I717UCLF6_HOME.tar.md5) and uploading it using Odin3-v1.85/PDA. You realize the reason you were stuck was because you flashed a GB kernel onto an ICS system? It would never boot. As the second post suggested... all you had to do was flash an ICS kernel to get it to boot.

If you put your phone into download mode, plug it in, run kies, and do an emergency firmware recovery. You'll need the serial number. My phone is stock ICS again. Works fine.

so cwm 5.5.0.4 touch is a GB kernel? Because that's all I flashed after the KIES update to ICS and I got the hanging Samsung logo.
I believe some people are trying to get ICS rooted with this cwm and are getting stuck. Of course there are ways out of it, but it'll help the learning process if we can find the problem.

[Q] Can't Get to CWM Recovery - Blank Screen

Hey folks,
I installed Helly Bean a few months back and just downloaded an updated version of the ROM - when I went to flash it I discovered that I can no longer get to Recover, when I choose 'Reboot' and select 'Recovery' the phone reboots but just lands on a black screen. The touch buttons at the bottom of the phone light up when you touch any of them - but otherwise nothing happens; I have to hold the power button to reboot the phone again and it just starts up as normal.
I tried using CWM ROM Manager to flash a new recovery (Choosing 'Samsung Vibrant (MTD)') - but it says there's no officially supported CWM Recovery yet for my device, and asks if I have installed one manually. I've looked into it...but I can't seem to find HOW to install one manually.
It's really not a pressing thing as my current ROM works well enough...but it'd be nice to figure out a solution. I'm still pretty much a noob at all of the Android development stuff...so please bear with me. Any advice would be most appreciated!
There was a build of helly that caused this issue. What is the build date you are running?

Looks like Sept 27th - thought I thought it was older than that.
It was actually the kernel that caused the issue, I'll look into the build date/number.
Edit:that is the build, flash the latest .tar kernel in Odin, then boot to recovery and flash new ROM.

Thank you for checking!
Quick follow-up! Back when I flashed the ROM (and previous ROMs) I had a PC - so I'm familiar with Odin, but since then it crapped out and now I'm saddled with a Mac. I've investigated a Mac alternative...but all the threads I've found have dried up download links and don't quite explain the process of setting it up. Any advice there?
Worse case scenario I boot up the PC and try to get through the process of using Odin - but as the problem is that the graphics card is dying; the thing could crap out again at any moment - which I assume could brick my phone if it happened mid-flash.
Thanks!
Not real familiar with Mac. Heimdall is the only program I'm aware of, Im not sure if you can flash a kernel with it. Sorry

Got it solved with Odin. Thanks for the point in the right direction!
