I just ordered an unlocked Galaxy SII from Amazon. I want to use this as just a Wi-Fi Android device, would i be able to do this with access to all android features (marketplace apps). Or do i need a SIM card just to use the device? Thanks!
If your using it as a wifi only then no you dont need to unlock it and the market dosnt require a sim, why would you want to do this though
I know its weird, but i have the money and i want something to replace my slow Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 and i felll in love with the S II at the store. I want to use it as a Wi-Fi only device for now because i don't use my phone very much at all and i don't want to pay for data right now.
Some apps like Whatsapp, Viber and other communication apps require simcard as ID. But you wont need any just for browsing internet, email, facebook etc. Android market doesnt require sim card too
Thanks a lot man! I was just making sure it would work like my Wi-Fi only Galaxy Player did. Thanks so much! I get it tomorrow, any ROM suggestions or should i wait till the official 4.0 update in march?
I would not recomend to use ICS roms yet if you want stable.
If you want just try... here is overview
www dot galaxys 2 roms dot com
I found good ones myself: "AndyX ROM", "Pure ICS".

The version for the tab does not even let me download it, I have tried the remote but it looks wrong and I want the video streaming function as this is one of the main reasons for buying it.
The Smart View-app isn't ready for the tabs yet.
Samsung issued a statement, when they first launched SmartView for the SGSII, that 8.9 and 10.1 tablets will be able to download the app in the late summer.. So just be patience (like me! )
I tried a downloadable .apk version on my 10.1 in combination with the d8000...
The remote function works, but when trying to switch to watch tv it crashes.
Then i found a ported version, which should work on more android devices.
That compatibility i can't check, but still the same crash on the 10.1...
i thought Samsung said they would put it on the 10.1 and 9.8 by default...
One of the main reasons, for bying it...

Have you even bothered to read my post right before yours?
Samsung never said it would be on the tab from the get-go.. They promised to release it "after the summer".. And seeing how vague that statement is (doesn't even tell if they mean summer in Miami, Stockholm, Capetown or Sidney), it's pretty safe to say that they're still in keeping with their promise..
any news about samsung second TV?
is there a new Version out there...
i want streaming to my Android..

Nope, no news yet.
I wrote with a Samsung-dude last week, and all he could say is that they're still planning for at september/early october-release
See here for the download link and information about the app.

Hi,
I want to try the Smart View-Tab version on my Galaxy Note because the non-Tab version has low resolution.
Can any Tab owner share the new version of the Smart View-Tab app here ?
the apk please...
Also we have a discussion about this on the Note section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420918&page=2
I'd appreciate if anyone could share this app from their Tab 10...
Smart view Tab:
http://www.multiupload.com/D33D9HAF2Z
thank you.
but I get a package corrupt error.
can you check if it's not corrupted while uploading ?
package corrupt
Downloaded and installed here without any problems...
I've got a Samsung 5700 .. doesn't work though (even though I can activate network remote in my TV menu...) Anyone any ideas? What does my TV mean by Network Remote then?!
any news ?
can anyone else upload the Tab app from their Tab 10 ?
Did you try in the market? Both Samsung remote apps (tablet/non tablet version) show there?
"Samsung" as the query?
They don't list the "Tab" version to the Galaxy Note.
Don't know if this is what you are looking for, I use it to control my 7000 series Samsung LED on my Tab 10.1. For some reason I don't get the dual view as an option but I have read others are having the same issue. Works fine for me, full screen, as the other one is really small when it loads.

forgot the exact number, but dual view only works for d6000 or D7000+
I bought this Samsung Galaxy S2 in China, and brought it back to America. Finding out that even I downloaded google market, I still cannot use it. It says "you must add an account to the device to continue. Do you want to add one?" And then I click OK, the app exits.
When I go to Accounts&Syncs, there is no such thing called Gmail!!! The only Email service Available is Microsoft Exchange Service. Samsung just removed or hide Google service to sell this device in China. If I cannot get it back, what is the point to use Android??? I online chated with samsung USA Support, and they refused to respond any question or concern about phones that are not for sell in USA. Any idea???Thanks, everybody.
OR
Since I am with ATT, do you think this Original GS2 will compatible with a ATT version ROM since all american versions have four touch keys.
So what happens when you add account.

you need a gmail account to use google services so yes.
A Google Apps account will work also.
I cant add one on this phone.

Basically, your domain is powered by Google Apps like Gmail, Calendar, Chat etc:
http://mail.yqed.com/
I use mines with Google 2-step verification and Google Authenticator app installed on my Galaxy phone. Virtually unhackable, even if you know my password you will need the Authenticator code generated on my phone to access the account.
China phone is it a real SGS2 or the China clone ???
Or does real China SGS2 not have Google settings as Google is restricted in China .
.Made by Samsung ???
jje
800 USD worth of Samsung GS2, it is real. I assume I am not new to android phone or samsung phone(I had a Samsung Captivate= Samsung GS first generation).
flash a stock EU rom
If I have to flash a rom, I want a rom that is not carrier involved, unless its ATT. Which country do you think I should go it a shot?
Due to communism, the google bits of the sgs2 may have been removed, I am not saying that this is definitely the case with you, but you should try to find out
Intratech sort of mentioned the issue here HERE and when I asked how to identify a Chinese device he answered in this post
So you need to check the firmware version on your phone by inputting *#1234# in the dial pad
Don't flash EU/US roms on a Chinese phone. It won't work and it will brick your phone (until you flash something else over it). So far, the only solution I've found for my Chinese SGS2 is flashing this modded Chinese ROM called Ownhere.
http://bbs.gfan.com/android-2099143-1-1.html
It will enable the market, google services etc. Even allows Navigation in countries where there is none! In fact, this is a great mod which does pretty much all I want. The only thing is the media hub: it still contains Chinese services. But do you really use it?
Mine is
Baseband version: I9100ZCKH2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.ZCKH2
But it is a chinese version for sure, I checked the pre-set sale destination, it is either CHN or CHZ, I switched from CHN to CHZ myself which does not help.
damn, hate Samsung, cant they just keep the code and block google service by carrier?
Hi,
so far I have been using iOS devices and they pretty much do what I need, even without jailbrake.
Unfortunately iPhone has a small screen and the new one I don't really like (plus it is quite expensive).
I am looking at WP but it also has few down sides (for me) despite of system itself looking great!
So,, here we come to SGSIII and few questions.
On my iPad I use VPN and got myself apps from UK and US store without problem. Now I can enjoy the likes of BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
If I'll get SGSIII will I be able to do the same?
I was told SGS III has locked bootloader and I will need access to this if I want to root this phone in order to download apps (like Netflix) from Internet , not from Google Play which in Poland will not have them available.
If SGSIII (which wen down in price a bit) will not do what I need - what else (with approx 4,5" screen) should I look at?

Does it mean that I will have no problem making VPN and Netflix work on this device?
And installing Netflix app (which in polish Play is not available).
You shouldn't have any problems running netflix if you root your device all your doing is getting superuser permission. If u flash a custom Rom you may have some problems then like I flashed paranoid android v2.13 and can't use the tvcatchup anymore still looking for a fixed!
Don't hold me to it I'm just going by my experience lol root didn't change anything service wise only the rom did.
No... custom roms is not my thing - i did not even needed to jailbrake my ipad so far. As long as I can get vpn up and apps like iPlayer and netflix all the rest is enough for me - all I need is browser, mail client, access to skydrive and MS services - and I am happy.
So I can get European SGSIII and should have no problem in getting the entertainment soft working on it?
TVCatchup blocks all VPNs
Just found something called Market Enabler - will that work for me to get those app from different markets...?
Yes market enabler allows you to find and download apps that are not available in your country.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks! So unlike in case of Windows Phone I should be OK.
So... recently i've been given a GNote N7108 (chinese version), but the phone doesn't has any google service, thus, i couldn't sign in my Google account and therefore no playstore, no contact sync, no anything...
Can anyone tell me how to root it and install Google service or install custom rom as long as i can use it like other international phone?
i'd be grateful if anyone could help me thz in advance.
are you sure it isnt a clone, ive seen alot of good clones of the galaxy line. I only ask because samsung would never leave out google, not even on their lq phones. Does it actually say "galaxy note" on the back cover and "samsung" at the top of the screen?
Hello guys,
So, i just bought a Samsung Gear S for my HTC One, and yes i know this is not 100% fully working, but i'll get a Samsung Alpha in few months.
Well, i followed your tutoriels and guides, and nothing went as planned.
The most embarassing thing is that i can't acces the Samsung Gear Store : is this a normal thing ? Or did i just mess up somewhere ?
Surprinsingly, S Voice function works 100%. I can't control my music tho. And the phone calls works very fine.
So, do you guys have any idea how i could fix this store issue ? Cause i would like to install something like Opera Mini or some other apps.
Thank you for reading, and sorry for my poor english
You need a Samsung phone that you can pair with the Gear s in order access the Samsung app store to install apps on the watch.
Best to find a friend with a compatible phone , pair it with theirs, then add whatever apps you want.
Or go to an electronics store that has compatible phones on display and pair your watch with one of them if you can.

I have an HTC M8 too and tried the workaround. This caused various issues and a few things didn't work post install of the Gear Mgr. I wanted something better and needed access to the gear store. And the last thing I wanted was be forced to buy and use a Samsung phone.
This isn't for everybody, but here's my fix...
I just bought a cheapo Samsung Gear S compatible phone off eBay and turned it into a notification relay point. You can get one for as little as ~$70:
Plug in it, connect to Wi-Fi, download Gear Mgr, clone the apps/email (from HTC) you want Notifs from, and set it up to remotely send the chosen app's notifications. For your HTC's texts, there are a handful of SMS forwarding apps on Play that work great. One app allows for you to reply with the native mobile # just as if it came from your HTC. Last step, set your watch to be standalone.
Everything works, including S-voice.
Thanks a lot guys ! A friend of mine has à Galaxy Note 2, i think it will be fine !
I'll keep you in touch if anyone wants to know what happened next !

Could you explain this a bit more, please?
I have someone who would love to get the Gear S but is a hard core iPhone user. I guess he could get a cheapo Galaxy phone, connect it to Wifi at home, but I don't understand the clone part, and how the cheapo gets the HTC notifications.
Guessing it may not work at all with an iPhone, but still interested in understanding the process.
Samsung could have really tapped that market by releasing a Gear Manager app on the Apple app store, and advertised a bit more.
No one knows what's on my wrist, but once explained, a lot of people would be potential customers if only the friggin Galaxy phone wasn't a prerequisite.

What you need to do is basically put the same apps on the relay device as your daily driver. Sign in to each app and then go to the Gear Mgr and make sure that app has a check mark.
As far as email. Use the stock Samsung email app and/or GMail . Enter all of your account info and, again, make sure the Gear Mgr is set.
So basically, all your doing is taking a dummy S compatible phone and creating a clone of your phone's app and email configuration.
Not sure if the iStore has an app that will forward your texts...but, hopefully, they should. If not, Google voice is another way to go.
