[Q] Possibly bricked. Please see if you can help - HTC Rezound

So i edited the android info.txt file in PH198. Now when I try to boot my phone into bootloader, it comes up with a screen saying volume up for update, volume down for no update, and then I just have to power off. Any suggestions?
Edit: Sorry if I was unclear, but when I update, my phone gets stuck on the white HTC screen.
Edit: I got it working thanks for the advice guys

Umm it's supposed to do that to load the kernel. Then you boot up to your rom and first thing delete that file off the SD card
Just boot up Rom like normal then delete using a file explorer like es file or root explorer. If it won't reboot to your rom, then pull battery remove sd card and boot . Once your booted up then reinstall SD card and delete the ph file.

What are you flashing? There's a lot of renaming things to the PHzip file name.
Actually, in any case, if you are being asked for update you should press volume up to select update, then if it says to press the power button that should be your "yes" answer to allow it to proceed. I think it says that.
Then once it is done reboot the phone if it didn't do it already and, as mjh68 mentioned above, use a file explorer like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer to delete that PHzip file. Then you should be good to go. Or you can then connect to your pc and delete the file that way, or power down and take the card out and put it in the pc and delete the file. If you don't delete that file then every time you boot up your phone it will go to flash it again.

I am flashing CleanRom 2.3 except with the nonstandard kernel. I will try removing the microsd and putting back the standard kernel then updating again. Thanks
EDIT: When I boot my phone it goes straight to the update screen not to the bootloader. Is there any way to boot the phone into recovery with my computer?

If you have a backup, and have adb just type adb reboot recovery to restore or wipe and flash a new Rom. Make sure the Rom matches the kernel

pressing back twice

umm so when i press back after the se logo appears nothing happens and it boots normally. im trying to go into recovery any suggestions?
You must press it lots,
Also when you install xrecovety your rom must be read write and not read only. Use a root explorer and set it to read write then try install the xrecovery apk u must get ticks for the last 3 otherwise your system is not read write. I used supermanager then file explorer then options mount system as rw then without closing super manager (just pressed home key) went to apps and installed xrecovery.
Then when you restart just keep tapping back at se logo screen.
Hope that helps
Sent from my X10i. Rooted jit enabled xrecovery loaded 2.1 asop lite using XDA App
Thanks will try again when wife gets home she wanted 2.1 tryed last night and it just wouldn't work.

Oh by the way I dropped the rom in on her sd card as stated and left it as a zip file I don't know if that means it's read write. And I used root explorer and put the three files of the apk where they said put it. And the only way I could copy it to its destination was if it was read write. So I believe I did everything correctly i just couldnt go into recovery. But you say press back more than twice so thats what must be the problem.
So I keep pressing back until xrecovery shows up? ... just too clarify

[Q] Trying to install ClockworkMod

I've tried about a million times now and can not get my Gtab into clockwork recovery. I downloaded the internal version of clockworkmod and hooked my gtab up to the computer and placed the clockworkmod zip in the recovery folder and unzipped it. Then I turned my device off and held down the power button + vol + it then says "Recovery key detected" and acts like its installing. Then It reboots and I turn it off again and it just keeps doing the same thing saying "
recovery key detected" and won't boot into clockwork!!!! Advice please?? And I know this is a noob question, I do. I tried following the instructions on the stickies but they're vague as to which clockwork zip I am to download??? Please help. Thanks!!!
From what I gather, after you download the internal zip you unzip that so you see the update.zip file & recovery folder. You move both of those to the root of the g-tab which would be /sdcard. I haven't done it yet since mine is charging right now.
Trying it now
GOLDEN....Finally! Thank you sir!

Hmm?.. I think the issue you are having is moving the update zip into the recovery folder.
when you extract the files from the zip file extract them to the main directory "/SCARD" and thats it.
After you extract it you should see (in that directory) a folder that says "Recovery" , within that folder there should be a file named "Command" and thats it, no more files in there.
Also in that main directory you should see an "update.zip" file, leave it there. DON'T MOVE IT into the recovery folder.
from there follow directions to boot into recovery mode.
1) Power down
2) Press and Hold down volume up + rocker
3) Press and hold Power Button
4) when device powers on you will see "Recovery Key Detected"
5) release buttons
6) recovery will install and reboot as normal.
7) Power down and follow steps 1 through 5 again.
8) You should be in recovery mode now.
Edit:
Took too long to make this post!! LOL
my noob questions...what version did you use and can you post a link to it?? i am getting my g tab today!!
thx...

Tekrhino, I feel stupid but I have to ask for your help re: this same issue. It seems so clear on what to do from your instructions but I still can't get clockwork recovery to load. I'm having the exact same issue of not getting into clockwork recovery so I must be doing something wrong.
Maybe by telling my steps you can get me on the right path.
1. Downloaded clockwork mod to desktop.
2. extracted update.zip now I have a file that says update unzipped.
3. attached gtab to usb, recognized by computer as removable disk.
4. click on "open folder to view files and see list of different files on gtab
5. copy and paste recovery and update unzipped to this window and disconnect gtab from computer and then try to do the above mentioned steps to get into recovery. get the recovery key is detected message but can't get into clockwork recovery.
I must be doing something wrong but can't figure out what! Any suggestions that can point out the error of my process will be very much appreciated.
GGGwhatever!!
You don't need to unzip update.zip. You just put it in the /sdcard directory and the reboot to CWM and take the CWM options to run it.
Rev
Download CWM to your computer.
Uncompress it get two files (recovery and update.zip) Do not unzip update.zip
put these two files in your root directory on your Gtab ( SDCARD)
Hold Vol+ button turn on.
Sit back and watch

I just got my tablet today and am still playing around with the stock, but from what I read I think your mistake is unzipping the "update.zip" file.
You only unzip the clockwork mod file you downloaded. Then you have two files: 'update.zip' and 'recovery' (folder). Leave the update.zip alone, don't unzip it and put these two files onto your gtab. Either internal storage (sdcard) or microsd card (sdcard2), depending on which clockwork file you have.
Thanks Rev! I know it is something simple but it was what I needed to get started.
Now I can play!

There is a linux binary
Read the .bat and manually type the commands
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk
you should not be using linux if you not able to read bat files
I KNOW how to read bat files. And I highly doubt anyone on these forums are in a position to tell me or even suggest to me what i should/shouldn't be using
It can be done without a computer completely.
Download ClockworkMod Recovery from here, and then follow these directions.
Binary100100 said:
Technically you dont need to run the .bat script anymore.
Simply place the PH85IMG.zip file on the root of your external sdcard then completely shut off your phone.
Hold the volume down button (NOT VOLUME UP) while pressing the power button. Hold them until the white screen comes on.
At the top it should say either S-OFF or Unlocked.
It will automatically scan the contents of your sdcard and located a flashable .zip file then ask you if you want to upgrade. Volume Up for yes, Volume Down for no.
Press the volume up button and allow it to reboot.
Download ROM Manager from the Market if you haven't done so already.
Select Download ROM then Superuser.
Select Superuser 3.0.6 efgh (or later if there is one) and then download.
It will then prompt you to Reboot and Install. Press OK.
It should install just fine and reboot automatically.
If it doesn't... you will possibly find it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/downloads.androidsu.com/superuser directory.
Just move it to the root of your external sdcard.
Back in ROM Manager select Reboot into Recovery.
Then select install zip from sdcard.
Select choose zip from sdcard.
Select Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip
Reboot with full root!
Pretty easy and no pc necessary!

(Help) Remove PH98IMG.ZIP after flash

Sorry but coming from a DX flashing was very easy. Flashing the Rezound is easy as well but I'm a bit lost on one issue.
When I flash a Kerel a PH98IMG.ZIP is created. I complete all of the steps but then can't get out of HBOOT because the PH98IMG.ZIP is still on my SD Card.
How do you delete the file via HBOOT? Was finally able to get out of HBOOT by putting my SD into my wife's phone and deleting it. But I'd rather delete or at least rename the file via the SDK.
Thanks in advance.
After you flash it, you just simply reboot your phone and delete it... simple as that.
OR, you put the SDCARD into something else, like you did, and delete it.. but you only run into this if you're trying to get into recovery using the VOL-DN + POWER method while PH98IMG.zip is still present in your SDCARD root... if you're simply rebooting the device it will skip HBOOT entirely and just boot into android where you can remove it with any file manager or the terminal emulator app.

If you have a PC. wait until you hit hboot. Don't press anything. Plug into your PC and use the command "adb reboot recovery" AmonRa has a USB-MS mount command that will allow you to mount to your PC and remove the file.
Or as stated above, turn the phone off, remove SD card and boot. One of the guys here had a wicked trick for it but I don't remember how it went.

I'm on a Mac and did do the reboot recovery and it still went to HBOOT. But I am using Amom and was not aware of the USB mount. Assuming that you just go to recovery (if I can) and go to mount option, then I will see the option?
Thanks a ton MrSmith
after the boot.img is flashed it asks if you would like to reboot. after rebooting and your phone is on, mount your sd card, locate the file and then delete.

Yes, assuming you can get into recovery, you can mount the SD card(to your PC) in recovery and remove the PH98IMG.zip file.
Thanks all, I'll give it a go next time that happens.

Yep. Reroot using the sdcard method and everything should go back to normal. A system update breaks root as it modifies the /system/apps/ directory which is where superuser/google play are stored when rooting.

Hopefully, someone can help me with this, as I seem to be having a similar problem. I am familiar with how to root the nook tablet, and have done so already, but since then, I believe the firmware updated, breaking my root. I am afraid to do it again, because when I first rooted the tablet, a game on it didn't work properly, and only worked properly after the update. Will this new root process cause any existing games to stop working? And how do I then prevent future firmware updates from breaking my root, again?

I used Albert Wertz's method for rooting using an sd card, and had no problems, except that I didn't go as far as to block the OTA updates. Is it possible to have a custom recovery and stock recovery on the same device? How do I tell, and how do I safely install cwm, without being able to use Titanium Backup (since my root is now broken)?

No, there is one partition designated for recovery. You can run cwm from sdcard when you wish and keep stock recovery internal, but custom recovery is the only way I have seen that absolutely blocks otas (otas are blocked with custom rom also) if that is your concern. To tell about your recovery the only thing I can think of is the power and N key into recovery. If you read what is presented on the screen when it appears and refuse a reset you are safe, that takes care of stock, if you are nervous reread and take your time. For cwm if that is installed you will see a cardboard box flash and then a menu with the first item to reboot, that is also safe.
To get into either recovery (for looking) from power off press and hold power and N, after two seconds release power, after one or two more seconds release N also. That should do it.
If you wish to have absolutely what to click when you get stock recovery just wait a while and I'll come back and edit this post to reflect that info. At the moment have something else going on (NT) I can't stop.
Stock recovery shows Factory reset
do you want to reset your device to the factory default?
Press POWER key to exit
Press Home key to continue
press power and you are out and safe
Installing CWM recovery! There are now two apps(they require root) here on xda for that purpose, one is 16gig only (Nook Tab Recovery Flasher) by indirect the other is 8gig and I don't know who did it.
There are also flash zips for each and a flash zip that is both 8gig and 16gig. If you are 8gig make sure you choose one for 8gig
CWM sdcard with a flash zip does not require root.
