[Q] Maemo on Galaxy Ace - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Has anyone given a thought to port the largely open source Linux and ARM based Maemo on galaxy ace ?????? Well it has avery few apps in its appstore but has greater performance abilities.

Windows Phone OS Port to Galaxy Ace

Yes the Cyanomod 7 work is on top here! But can we also try porting Windows Phone OS? Coz its superb!
Windows Phone 7 needs at least 1GHz CPU . 840x480 Screen . we haven't this and i think porting that not gonna be easy for us . (kinda not possible ! )

which means we need at least a galaxy s for this to work.
Or maybe Windows Phone 6.5.3 or 6.5.5

we would also need samsung to unlock the bootloader for our ace... so wouldnt count on this happening anytime soon
Impossible ... WP7 is a closed source operating system and besides the minimum requirements are ARM v7 and WVGA resolution.
Windows os is not open source and is protected by licenses. So porting to other higher devices would be illegal. Only Microsoft can decide which devices it wants. Like Samsung Focus S which is a windows variant of SGS2 .
We are better of playing with open source -Samsung android,Ubuntu, debian and cyanogenmod 7 on our galaxy ace for now. And I am sure we will have AOSP in the near future.
And this is a development section. Please post discussion in general section.

Well, the mango phone from ZTE is running with only 4GB of internal memory even though the minimum requirement is 8GB, so I bet the minimum requirements equals recommended specs.

even porting miui or sense rom which is already android to our android phone is still a dream now, so good luck dreaming of getting windows

Why is it so hard to code camera in ICS for Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Well, I am not a professional developer. But as an android enthusiast, especially related to the tablet experience, I just wanna know what problem the talented developers of this community are facing to bring the camera on Galaxy Tab 10.1
I am not mocking, anyone, its just my curiosity

I don't have an answer for you but I just don't understand why a camera on a tab is such a big deal? I have a s2 for pictures..
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
I d also like to know the problem, perhaps could help/contribute if possible.
It is a big deal since we want a fully working device... Period
About the camera... Well they need the drivers for ics since honey comb drivers won't work with.... It's like trying to use windows xp drivers in windows 7 its just plain incompatibility issues... And maybe our devs could build drivers from the scratch but that takes loads of time and it's worthless effort since sooner or later Samsung will release them
Cheers
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
The linux kernel between Honeycomb and ICS is 99% the same, the changes outside the Android UI are minimal. The problem is with the extraction of the Honeycomb driver (it should work with ICS, since the linux driver model has not changed in 10 years) from the Samsung HC driver package. It's not trivial.
Proprietary drivers

CyanogenMod no longer delivers support for devices with snapdragons 1

Hey guys!
Yesterday I read an article about "CyanogenMod no longer delivers support for devices with snapdragons 1"
And as our device is a "cooper one", it seems we are not gonna make it..
Source 1: "CyanogenMod ya no entregará soporte para equipos con Snapdragon S1" - bitly.com/MCS7bU
Source 2: "CyanogenMod formally confirms ceased support for Snapdragon S1 devices past Gingerbread" - bitly.com/MCSGT5
And here is the official post of Cyanogenmod's Team (from Google+):
CyanogenMod 01/08/2012
CM 9+, N1 (and other S1 SoC)
The Nexus One, along with the other first generation Snapdragon devices (devices with the QSD8x50, MSM7x25, MSM7x27 and MSM7x27T SoCs), will not be supported beyond the CM 7.x (Gingerbread) branch.
We’ve been holding off on finalizing this, looking for ways that we could make this work and be happy with the release. Sadly, it never panned out, and we’ve decided that it’s time to stop our efforts.
The Nexus One in particular would have required a custom hboot to repartition the internal memory (which itself was limited to 512 MB, like most devices of that generation) and the proprietary libs available (from 2.3) would have required compromises in the CyanogenMod code that we are not willing to make. The wide variety of MSM7x2x(T) devices, on top of these problems, also have a complete lack of media libraries that are compatible with the new APIs introduced in ICS (video decoding and encoding, specifically). The pieces just aren’t there.
Does the capability to run ICS or Jellybean exist on these devices? Yes, with enough time, effort, and hacks it can be made to work. Do we feel the experience is worth all of that? No.
To measure our releases, we use the same subjective criteria as users do: “speed”, “jank”, “butter”, but also factor in user experience (UX) and other intangibles. However, beyond this is something that we can (and do) use as a ‘pass or fail’ mechanism, the Android Compatibility Test Suite. The CTS is used by device manufacturers to ensure that their changes to Android source do not break Android API, platform and other standards. This, in turn, brings stability to the Play Store for app developers. Breaking CTS would lead to a bad and inconsistent experience for app devs, which in turn would lead to a bad experience for you guys as users. If CyanogenMod was perceived to be blatantly violating CTS, developers could eventually blacklist CyanogenMod users from using their apps (or worse, Google could blacklist CyanogenMod from the Play Store altogether). No one would win by going down that path.
If, in the future, a solution is found that passes CTS, we will revisit the topic.
For users that are adamant about trying to run ICS and beyond, options exist. We are not going to recommend other builds however, as they are more than likely breaking CTS, and therefore our quality assurance standards as well. You can find them if you look in the usual places.
-The CyanogenMod Team

He means future support, that means future updates will take longer because now porting is needed to make it work.
The title is wrong.
You should say we won't get future support from Cyanogenmod.
AOSP still can be compile from source I guess.

We never had and never will have OFFICIAL CM9+ support. UNOFFICIAL builds are what we'll have to live on..
Is this just saying that we wont have official CM9/CM10 support (which we all knew)?
Or is it saying that we will no longer get support from them for CM7?

wait for a little while i think samsung is planning to update it to 4.0 since pocket+ (who has similar spec) will be released in 4.0
i hope will be released android 4.0 or 4.1 official for pocket

I don't think Android 4.0 will ever come out on GP as it is a low-end device!

Hello. This is my first post about galaxy pocket and, surprisingly, nobody has talked about its 2MP camera ...
With its powerful 830Mhz core, is it possible to improve video recording to 640x480 @30fps... or at least, 480x360 @20fps or more if possible?
