Galaxy sII battery drain? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I unplugged from the charger at 7am today. Watched some youtube videos, listened to some spotify (15 mins) and calls were like 20 mins. By the time it was 1:30pm my battery was dead. Ive been noticing les battery performance now. I tried closing apps and uninstalling the ones that use up memory too. Nothing works. What should i do?

Install BetterBatteryStats and see what's the big drainer on your phone.

i did install better batterystats.. I uninstalled all the apps that drain. Still no use:-(

if you could provide us with your settings and a log from betterbatterystats so we can help you out
and by settings i mean, sync how often, 3g or wifi or both
gps, all that kind of stuff

definitely agree with rorixrebel above, and install juidefender from the android market it will use your battery as efficiently as possible.
It could also be a battery issue, and if you need a new one I recommend the 1900 Anker one (search amazon) it fits without the need for a new cover and gives you 20-25% more life.

if you could provide us with your settings and a log from betterbatterystats so we can help you out

same problem here..
btw can someone help me understand bettery battery stats...
sys ?? count?? etc??
which parameter denotes drain?

Are you running a stock ROM? My stock GSII had pretty awful battery life - I had much better results from Cyanogenmod.

[Q] Battery draining too fast

I have a problem with my battery I have my new sgs 2 and I rooted and did a new rom and all but my battery is draining really fast under moderate use! 3 hours of moderate use and I lose about 30% battery! What can be the problem? I calibrated and did speedmod kerenel, still heavy drain... in sleep mode I guess it can last like 2 days but I want to use my phone constantly without loosing so much battery
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
As far as I can tell based on this information, you have no drain. It's normal that the screen consumes power. If you standby time is 2 days, then you have no battery drain.
Lower your screen brightness and avoid using white colours. And no there is nothing else you can do.
But I see slot of people who get 10 hours of use on moderate and even heavy use,.. maybe it's my rom? I use rarity rom with speedmod kernel, maybe I should use checkrom?

No one gets 10 hours with screen on. Thats what you are talking about right? You get 3-4 hours max.
So 30% in 3 hours is normal and not bad.
Right now I got left 58% battery after almost 3 hours of moderate/ heavy use like YouTube mostly fb internet n stuff, is that normal?
I got almost half brightness with 3g always on
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes .
So is there any particular rom that is known to save battery?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
yes, there is a way to save more battery - use common sense.
Srry I meant to write rom but galaxy must have "fixed " it
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Whichever ROM makes you not use your phone. Probably best to choose the worst looking one you can find, so you're less likely to use it.
You still don´t understand it. The screen uses power. No matter what rom/kernel you use.
I do get it but isent there any rom that actually saves battery?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
No there isnt, at least not afaik.
Get urself Android Assistant, switch to Tools and check out Battery Use. If u click on the "Other" button u'll see exactly what drains the most power. I'm almost certain it'll look like this:
Display
Android System
Android OS
Display can only be reduced by brightness, auto-rotate screen and Auto adjust screen power (See Display settings)
Android System includes many packages. (Look up the details in the Assistant to see which ones u can kill for now)
Android OS is mostly ur CPU clock. U can get urself SetCPU (root required) to lower ur clock frequency (mines set to min 200/max 800; on demand). Everyting runs smooth and I dont see any difference besides 2-4 more hours of battery
Dont set it too low or it wont start up anymore!
The Assistant quick boost widget is also pretty useful. Just click on it and it'll kill all unused apps increasing ur TTL, even if its only a lil bit.
Hope this helps!

[Q] PROBLEM SGS2 eats battery incredibly fast

Hello!
My sgs2 battery lasts for 5-6 hours
Im not using it that much. I play games for 30mins and thats all. I don't use it all time.
I was thinking that battery is broken so i bought another but 2000mah and it didnt help too but lasts one more hour . Im really worried.
I have mA usage widget and it sometimes shows 600mA 300mA screen off 200mA.
I've frozen all unnecesary apps.
I have kernel siyah 2.6.7
Can someone help me?
Check for wakelocks.

Brilliant. Carry on enjoying your 5-6 hour battery life then.
very funny
It will help also have you checked what is consuming battery? Do you have data, wifi or bluetooth on?
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
Yes I checked everything. I have wifi bt 3g off, screen 40% in battery usage it says screen eats 70% battery and the rest is some apps 2-3%
You were given a way to possibly increase battery life from Oinky, and you dismissed what he said with "Thanks but I don't think it will help" ?
You're obviously an idiot then. And frankly, you don't deserve help at all after that.
Do you realise BetterBatteryStats is probably the best way to nail down wakelocks that can chew thru battery, once you've taken a look at the really obvious stuff ?
Clearly not.
"Some apps".
Very helpful. These apps don't have a name then? Too lazy to type them? You think we should guess?
You don't seem to want any help. You definitely don't deserve any.
Best keep your charger handy.
1. Are u using a task killer..if so don't
2. Are u rommed? It could be that theres one on x10 that ate my battery n am on a 2.6k mAh.
3. Ur kernel.. if its oc cud be a problem.
Turn mobile data, backgroud data, auto-sync and of couse your brightness, can save battery, if all this fails i suggest seeing your phone provider about it
Xperia x10i
DonutHD
DoomKernel v6
Unlocked and unbranded.. Bye bye vodafone
I would give you some help on it but I don't think you will think that would help.

Hope you're battery's down to 5-6 seconds soon.
Check out a poster here who goes by the sadly inappropriate name of TheMegaStar - you two are made for each other.
Original poster seems a funny guy, don't think he wants our help.
Check for wakelocks, change your modem, try a different kernel if rooted, try a new rom if rooted, don't use any task killers.

Battery Drain Solving

Ok people I could use some help. I think I am getting some average battery times but the score card would definitely say 'could do better'.
So what I want to know is what screen shots from BetterBatteryStats/Phone/other would I need to upload here to help someone with far more technical nous than me identify what is causing the drains and how to stop them?
To start here is my battery screen shot for today. This is with approx. 3.20hours of screen on time.
The screen is a real battery-hog due to it's size. You may want to lower brightness, that helps a lot.
For starters, please attach Kernel Wakelocks and Partial wakelocks from BetterBatteryStats, that shall show if something drains your precious juice.

OK here we go....I guessed from looking around the forums this is the best way to deliver the information? If not let me know and I'll change it.
Analyse away
Not sure whether this is relevant but I have Tasker turning WiFi on and off in two locations.
Alright, let's see: Your phone's screen was on for an hour, but the phone was awake for two. That means we found a wakelock. Unfortunately I have no idea what "deleted_wake_locks" stands for. Maybe someone else knows more about this. Besides that wake lock, you seem to spend quite some time in an area with bad or no signal at all. That will drain your battery pretty quickly too as the phone is constantly searching for a better signal. You might want to turn of phone data in that area to prevent to phone from trying to get a better signal all the time. Finally, you should consider getting rid of the Facebook app. I've read that it isn't exactly gentle when it comes to saving battery.
Rationale: In the API available to android drivers it is advised to call wake_lock_destroy before freeing the memory of the wakelock struct that you created. This is probably done on shutdown OR perhaps if for some reason a driver is unloaded from the kernel. Whenever it does this it ads the wakelock stats to the deleted_wake_locks.
Know actions: AlarmManager itself is not generating partial wakelocks but the applications (intents) that were set to be called when an alarm goes off do. Alarms can be listed through the menu "Actions -Alarms".
Known conditions of occurence: In relation to Wifi and depending on the sleep policy wakelocks seem to be collected when screen goes off and Wifi is turned off

That doesn't help battery life, that just fixes an error in battery stats reporting.
That cell standby problem was NOT draining excess battery it was just being reported incorrectly by the android battery stats.

Mmmmm maybe you sometimes find that responses get lost in those things.
Anyone else able to help here?
Your battery goes down steep all the time, but according to your screenshot of the battery stats there are 2 critical points, the latter not ending.
Please next time also include a screenshot of the menu appearing after tapping on the graph (which includes screen-on, wifi and signal quality)
According to BBS some of the issues are related to:
No or Unknown Signal (): 1 h 26 m 54 s (5214 s) Ratio: 20.5%
Poor Signal (): 1 h 4 m 45 s (3885 s) Ratio: 15.3%
Click to collapse
No or poor signal causes heavy battery drain since it keeps searching for the network until the connection is re-established.
Are you on 3G connection? If so, Facebook is a known battery drain.
Try using 2G whenever you're not needing the speed and see if that improves your battery life. (Only to test for now)
Alternatively disable Sync (all of Sync, not only Google or Facebook) and check if that improves the life.
You are on an old ROM version, try upgrading to a BLFB-based firmware or a CM9/AOSP based one. Both have great battery life improvements over the old ALEx Roms.

Let your battery do 1 or 2 complete cycles and then judge it..when you do a fresh install a lot of syncing goes on in the background..

Then you should do a full wipe and report after at least 3 charge discharge cycles.
You could try wiping your battery stats in the advanced menu from recovery too before you start your discharges. Some people say this doesn't do anything but it only takes a second so can't hurt. I always do it after a full wipe. That way you're starting from a clean slate
Sent from my GT-I9300
Battery life on LI5 is a bit worse than LH1 but not by much.
I think it's around 15-20% worse overall.
Use betterbatterystats to find out what exactly is really causing the problems if it prevails after a full wipe. It might be that a couple of google apps synchronize at first in the backgroudn and cause a lot of battery consumption.
I use DLI5 and it only uses up about 1% in standby without energy saving. But i did some tricks to get there. For example, i disabled photo sync and google plus sync while my display is turned off (settings->data usage->disable background data for the apps that use up too much). Other than that, i don't use any battery saving apps and always have wifi on (even though this probably uses more energy than having it turned off at standby).
With some undervolting and bloatware removal plus sync tweaking the best idle drain I have achieved is 0.7percent/hr with all the apps I need. Very happy with that. Not on jb though. Ain't gonna test jb until it's officially out. Hopefully when it matures it should be on par if not better than ics

I also had this issue. In my case I realized that android.procesd.media went crazy eating up cpu and also bandwidth and it wouldn't stop.
I could not find a solution, I did a complete wipe (formatting system and even internal sdcard). In the i dropped DLI5 and went back to DLI3.
Cheers

Betterbatterystats is suggested but i looked for this the other day coz i had some unusual battery drain going on - Full Wake lock bar!!
Seems that is a purchase app only so looked for a free alternative - came across GSam Battery Monitor - Free app - which is great and supplys alot of useful info. (used to be called badassbatterymonitor apparently)
Found that for some reason that the hotmail app was causing the wake lock so phone not going into deep sleep (not sure why, done it today too!!) so i just force stopped it.
Check that app out and look at hotmail app if installed. Can actually see the wake issue under normal battery status on phone to - like todays issue - shows hotmail as 6% battery use which is low compared to everything else but if i click on the hotmail line it then shows extra info including stay awake - mine is reading 2h 56m & 48s - well until i force stopped it.
Maybe this will be of some help:good:
No problems here, but then I removed all the bloatware inc kiesexe.
Use Better Battery Stats as someone mentioned. You could also try Watchdog task manager from the market. Set it up so it monitors the system level, that's off by default. Those two apps shall source the problem down to exactly what's up
Also don't compare battery use so quickly..... as has been said.

[Q] [ROM][XXLSJ][30Dec] Omega v17 - JB 4.1.2: Screen battery drain

Hi all, I was trying to post this question directly in the forums but looks like i have not permissions to post on the developers threads since this is my first post :crying:
I have a question about battery duration with the omega rom on my SGS II.
First i flashed version 16.2 and i saw my phone's battery life was not very good (10-12 hrs average). i thought it could be all the things this JB rom can do (like smart stay and all that kind of stuff) so i went back to the Omega ICS v15.1 but same thing with the battery life, i wa doing at least two recharges per day. Then i saw that the omega v17 was released so i decided to give it a try hoping thing will be better.
I alredy did the rescvan media root app thing, disabling sync, and all those tips with no difference.
Am I missing something, does my battery needs to be replaced? (i bouthg the phone like a year ago).
And what is the average normal duration with this ROM?
Thanks in advance!!
(I'm attaching an SS of my battery stats)

Hi I'm in a similar position on a jb ROM also get not many hours 10-15 as u can see nearing 6hrs will probably get some where between 50-60% battery it just feels like it drains fast when I use it and when its on sleep as well. I'm also doing all the tweaks to save battery life changing govenor turning off sync killing apps low brightness etc. Still feels like short battery when phone being used or in sleep. Tried several jb roms. On siyah betav4
