[Q] How to diagnose wakelocks - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Something is waking up my phone when idle and I would like to know whats causing it.
I have a stock ROM gingerbread 2.3.3
Added apps as follows
when system monitor pro was monitoring I had lots of tiny wakeups that ended quickly and occasional wakeups that the phone stayed awake for hours until I used clear ram in task manager. disabling the system monitor monitoring has stopped the tiny wakups but I have just had 2 long wake periods whilst the screen is off.
background transfer is off
autosync is off
wifi is off
3g is off
data mode is off
bluetooth is off
this is happening when I have no missed calls or waiting sms (bln pro)
what would be ideal is an app if exists that logs every wakeup call and says what app did it, does it exist?

Battery life

Hi Everyone,
is it just me or since flashing your phone battery life is not that long?
i own x10a, i running not timescene stuff all wifi, gmail, email is all turned off. I just run the bare minimum hardly place games. use it to only text message and make calls and i just fully charged my phone last night and now it already used 1/4 of the battery from 5 text messages this morning. the phone is brand new. just got it last thursday. any ideas?
- reduce display brightness and time to turn off
- disable power-hungry features (wifi, gps, bluetooth, even gsm at certain time) - you can do that automatically using tasker and his 'wifi near', 'gsm cell near' action contexts
- use SetCPU to dynamically scale processor speed, it is probably enabled by default but setcpu gives you a way to configure it. rooting needed.
also, reducing cpu usage can help reduce battery usage:
- edit autostart and disable programs that you dont need to have in memory (for example, i dont know why titanium backup places in the autostart and is loaded, and no feature of it is needed for me in realtime so i disabled it)
- task killers can *probably* help by automatically cleaning up programs that reside in memory after using them. i think that some poorly written apps can use CPU even in background and even when they do nothing

hi thanks for the reply, yes i now notice when i reduced my brightness it has stoped chewing battery. when i get SetCPU will that allow me to configured the autostart application on my xperia x10?
i dont really know what you mean.
SetCPU sets cpu clock downsteping on specified profiles (for example display off - set cpu 284 mhz to 384 mhz)
Autostart managers allow removing programs that put themselves on autostart, like on ms windows you know . of course you can always launch them later with your touch )
type "autostart" on android market to browse and see what they can do.
SetCPU is either on market or XDA x10 forums - use forum search.
good luck!

Hi Devein,
sorry i am still having an issue with this application i power up the app and asks me to select my phone, i select auto detec because my phone is not listed, then it has a green scroll bar in the middle, i do not know how to setup profiles. and set this autostart manager you talk about.
thanks.
I figured it out thanks.
No problem: D
i am really disappointed though with the battery life of the x10. such an short battery life compared to what was stated.
Something weird has happened to my phone.. I was getting easily 16 hours off 60% charge.. then in the last 3-4 days it's dive bombing.. I'm down to 63% remaining from full charge after 5 hours... and haven't used it a lot..
Tried removing any new apps I've installed this week.. and also switched mobile data off as I've noticed that I've started getting a weak 3G signal at home and thought this might be the problem.. but doesn't seem to have slowed it down..
I'm on R2BA026 and not rooted.. I've not changed anything else..
Tempted to do a FDR it's that bad.. but I know that I'll get the 2.1 update in the next 2 weeks so really don't want to have to go through the pain of setting it all up again and then have to do it again when 2.1 lands!
The problem seems to have started when I did a test of using Moxier to get Hotmail Push.. but I've got rid of that now, and have cleared all the moxier data..
Confused!. Anyone?
(EDIT - Fixed it - for some reason Moxier still had data in it.. so deleted the data within App management and it's been ok since)
Check out my tutorial on getting the most out of Xperia X10 battery.
Most of the things have already been pointed out above. But, you still might come across a few tips not covered here in my tutorial.
As with iceman, most of the time it's some naughty app that causes all the trouble.

[Q] Sudden battery drain...?

So, i've had the eris since Dec '09...been rooted for a long time...played with many ROMs...lots of root-req apps, etc etc. i'm pretty proactive and i pay attention...but this one has me stumped:
about 5-6 days ago my battery started draining fast as hell...looking at what was using the battery it said Android OS, Display, then Android System. everything else was insignificant. right now stats (47m 22s since unplugged):
Android OS 49%
Display 13%
Android System 9%
that is HUGE compared to any time i've ever looked before. i'm running KaosFroyo v38 (complete fresh flash, though this problem started while using v37). List of apps...those with a star i can remember have updated recently:
chrome to phone
music junk*
SetCPU (set to 19200 - 604800, profile of screen off 160 - 480)
snesoid
switchpro widget
tapatalk pro
wireless tether
quick boot
usaa mobile
tfln +widget
touiteur (and premium)
Premotedroid
Winamp
adfree
the weather channel
skype
wiimote controller
shazam*
GPS Status & toolbox
astro file manager
my verizon*
launcherpro*
flex dialer lite
qwiklist voice
chandroid
facebook for android*
google voice
gmail
google maps
street view on google maps
my best guess is the problem is LauncherPro but i don't know how to monitor an app like that. any ideas?
I would check your network usage. If an app is constantly sending/receiving data, then it'll drain your battery pretty quick. I don't think it would be LauncherPro. I've been using the paid version for a long time now and have no problems with it.
Get spare parts. It will give you a more accurate look at the battery usage.
Sent from my Floyo Tazz using XDA App
Under battery history, in spare parts, I selected network usage and one of the bars is named "0". When I select it, the history portion of the app force closes. This "0" app is the big drain.

I've seen the "0" mystery app before and couldn't figure out what it was. It wasn't draining my battery though.

Is there a way to prevent wifi from restarting on its own

Does anyone know of a way to prevent the wifi from restarting itself. I am having the data connection issue and turn wifi off but it is back on again a little while later.
Are you using any battery/app management apps? Greenpower?
No battery management app and even after a factory reset I did yesterday for a different issue, it is still happening.
Bump... Any ideas>
can you describe the problem a bit more please ?

I have the same problem with mine. Wifi keeps restarting or sometimes hangs at authenticating. Very frustrating and makes wifi connection completely unreliable. I dont have any battery management app or no task manager either except for default one that came with Atrix. I use inbuilt battery app in "nighttime saver" mode thou.

I will turn wifi off through settings and later, sometimes minutes, sometimes hours, I will notice that it has restarted. This is without reboot. At first I deleted all the previous connections, but it still did this. I have even done a hard reset, flashed back to stock and I continue to have this issue. When it is on I have the data connection issue seen on multiple forums where I have to reboot my phone to get a data connection back (not calls, no sms, no email). This happens even though I have never reset up any wifi locations.
Any other specific questions?
BTW, I have the battery saver that came on the phone in performance mode.
try this to see if it helps. go to settings>wireless and networks>wifi settings> press settings button> advanced> turn wifi sleep policy to never.
maybe that will stop it from turning off.
I actually want it to STAY off when I turn it off. I would love to have it on sometimes but since that crashes my data connection, I want to keep it off for now til the fix for that is out.
Also, it seemed worse before I installed GingerBlur, but it still happens, just less often.

Did you flash the new radio after going to 2.3.4?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159505
May or may not help!
I flashed att pudding full 183 then cherryblur 0.5d...I don't think that either of those flashed new radio...
I believe I have N_01.77.15P now...going to update to latest version.
I believe this only affects the cellular radio, but I after doing some research it seems if you are going to be on 2.3.4 you should upgrade to this one..

+ all the stock apps.
anything on my list above thats known to cause lag on the DNA? i dont have anything "wierd" installed, so I'm guessing something isnt 100% compatible, but for the life of me, I cant figure out what!
Let me add that if anyone knows of any method (short of uninstalling everything and reinstalling 1 by 1 to see what happens) to check for causes of lag, I'm interested to hear it
thanks
Add #2
I'm an idiot
Cause was too many widgets.
Specifically, Battery Monitor Pro 3x1 + Data Manager 2x1 + My Verizon all one screen was the killer.

Factory Reset - restoring any configuration/settings?

Hi there,
I've been upgrading to a S21 9910 from a S9. Tried with SmartSwitch - but battery life was pretty poor (3-4h SOT).
Now I've done the factory reset and I'm still in the process of restoring - which is kind of a pain the ***** somehow. I've also disabled a few things with ADB, just basic (Bixby, etc).
Is there any "allowed" way to restore maybe things like settings / configuration / with Samsung Cloud / Google Backup AND not to impact the battery life or so?
Any help/hints would be useful.
THANK YOU!
SmartSwitch creates more problems in my opinion (but I had a Huawei so that could have also been a problem) and google backup is still an obscure thing for me (compare to ios backup).
Usually the battery improves after few days but don't expect 10hrs screen time.
This is what I did with mine to improve battery life:
- disabled AOD
- changed to dark theme
- set a routine with bixby to disable mobile data when on a specific wi-fi (like home one) and switch to 3G (if you disconnect from it the phone goes back to 4G/5G+ mobile data)
- put screen to 60 fps (i don't use social network and I mainly read on watch videos on phone so I don't need 120 fps)
- with "package disabler pro" I disabled few services/apps (OneDrive, all game related plugins, samsung kids, led cover service, google Duo, facebook services)
- switched from youtube app to youtube vanced
- blokada
- I use brave as a browser (not tested if it is better on battery side compared to samsung's one)
With these setting and without disabling bixby I can get at least 4hrs if I game a lot (tested with Genshin that takes aroung 20-25 % / hrs; obviously not 4hrs of Genshin or the phone would melt down on 60 fps setting). On general usage whatsapp, youtube, music, phonecalls, 30 min gaming, bluetooth always on and connected to samsung watch (Gear fit 2) and location on (but limited to some apps) you should get more than 6 hrs.
If you are setting up phone I also suggest you Good Lock from samsung store (a lot of customization for the phone).
Thanks for sharing your approach!
I've also AOD disabled, and a few others.
120Hz I would like to have still.
Let's see - if I get anything more than 5h I would be happy already. Will share my experience after few days and finished set-up.
What exactly is this "Good Lock" - you mean the screen lock app?

Good Lock is an app that you can download from the Galaxy Store. It lets you customize lockscreen, AOD, Quick Panel, launcher, task changer, notifications, navigation bar and much more.
