[Q] Anyone getting zapped? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So I feel like when I touch the back of the prime (mostly by speaker) i get zapped, like a buzz(not quite an electric shock). this happens when its in the dock and charging.
anyone else experience this?

I get that buzz also when i touch the part over the keyboard keys on the dock when it is charging. Screen also has to be on to make that happen. Not 100% sure what it is either.

This has been addressed before, turn the wall charger around so the Asus letters are inline with the wall ground.

I got buzzed yesterday if that's what you mean? LOLJK but sounds like a pretty cool glitch.

Car Dock Question

Has anyone else experienced bad audio distortion while using the car dock? I noticed that when I unplug the charging cord it sounds fine...
I have not experienced this, maybe a bad ground on your charging port?
sent straight from my brain....
is there any way to correct that?
add another ground. I would try another car adaptor first though or your set up in another car. That will help narrow it down to the car or the set up.
Another thing to note is it might be dirty power. The way i hooked up the radio in the saab i have a constant humm (raised ground floor) due to a small fan that always runs on the same circuit i pulled either accessory power or the switched light feed. Hence why I am saying to try it in another car.

Are you using the USB charger that came with the dock?
At first I just used my own USB charger I all ready had in the car and got audio distortion ...
I switch to the one Motorola included with the car dock and audio was clear as a bell
Have any of you guys found the neck to be a bit short for windshield mounting? I was thinking of getting this one to replace an old bracketron bracket I have but I doing know if the neck is long enough to see and manipulate the screen properly.
I am going to try a ground loop isolator to see if that makes a difference!
I'm having an issue with the car dock and audio when a song first starts off. When the audio starts I hear a popping sound. It does it when I first open the stock music player or anytime a new song starts with Slacker radio. It also does it when I first open tune in radio or when it restarts music after losing a connection (buffering). It seems to only do it when I plug into the adaptor which attaches to the mini USB plug. If I plug it directly into the phone through the headphone jack, it plays fine without any popping sound. Is this a common problem, or do I have a bum car dock? If some others can try their docks out, this would be great so I know if it is a common issue or not. It seems to be more pronounced at high volumes.
I'm not having any distortion but mine won't charge. I thought that it might be the cord but it will charge my wife's EVO, so I then took the cord into the house and used a wall plug and tried to see if it would charge that way. No luck.
It seems to charge using everything else but that cord even though that same cord WILL charge other phones????
I'm going to return it and get a different one but was wondering if anyone has had this issue at all?
Just weird...
Update...
If I use another USB it will charge and all but not go into dock mode. I still don't understand why it would charge other phone models but not the MoPho itself...
Yeah if you unplug the usb cord from the dock it def. wont charge the MoPho. My girl tried to charge her droid 2 on it too and it wont work. I assume it was designed that way.. motorola.. go figure

It's not charging it either way, whether its plugged into the dock or just having the cable plugged directly into the MoPho but it will charge the wife's 3VO plugging the cord directly into hers.

Are you in a Honda by chance? Honda's are infamous for this... anything that's connected to both a 12V output and an audio line in is going to have feedback unless you do some hacking. This is based on experience with 4 vehicles and probably a dozen car chargers, 5-6 phones, mp3 adapators, ipods, 2-3 car decks, etc. over the years (and confirmed by others). The only luck I've had mitigating it was to use a ground loop isolator (at least, I think that's what I used - writing from memory) on the car stereo power feed itself. I tried a ground noise filter on the audio line once and that helped very little.
You'll have the same problem if you try an FM modulator, but not if you use bluetooth audio, so that's what I do now.
Not having any problems with sound or charge but Nav went wonky today.
Edit: Kia Rio 2009
I have had the car dock for about 3 weeks - in Mercedes - it is working fine, charging OK sound OK, I have it set up so the bottom of the base rests on the dash - works well.
So they can work -
Any one have suggestions for a protective case that will work with car dock? I want my phone to slide into car dock and table top dock without having to take case off.
i'd love an answer to this too!

I updated in the other main Seidio cases thread ... with some minor tweaking the Surface case definitely fits the car dock (can't confirm the other dock yet until I pick one up this week).
I have an Otterbox Commuter that works fine with a small modification. Remove the small plastic bridge over the ports and it fits the dock nicely.

Another problem: keyboard dock does not work

I was told there was a thread about this, but the only one I found was at transformerforums.com
Anyways, a new Prime and completely functional with decent WiFi and no screen problems. But the keyboard does not work on the dock, nor does the touchpad. Some have said that top row of keys work and others don't, but not even these work on mine.
I was also told to charge it fully first, but that made no difference.
It does not work after ICS and firmware update either.
Charging however works and Prime can detect the dock.
I will return it on Monday, but wondered if maybe there is something I could try or if it is a settings problem or of someone else suffers from the same thing.

It sounds as though he has it connected, but it's just not doing anything at all. I have no idea why it would do that

Cheers! My problem is different though. Keyboard never works, top row does not work, touchpad either. I think it's quality control issue, disconnected someplace. Input settings make no difference.
Weird is that it is charging and detects it though.

The ones that guard the holes that the dock holds onto, to the right and left of the charge port.

Perhaps the connector inside the dock is loose, if you can open the dock its probably an easy fix. But If I were you I'd just return it and order a new one. I can live without the dock, but not without the tablet.
Same problem here - when charging put the dock on and off some times and it will work upon You take it off of wall charger.
With microHDMI-out it also seems to work better, but then not every time. With battery use maybe in 10% of time.
Same here.... the dock decides to work at will and so far, the only keys working have been the top row. None of the other keys have shown any interest to work yet. I have done several factory resets, updated to ICS (manual of course as my tablet has the serial number unknown issue which is a different kind of pain in the ass). Frankly, I am starting to hate ASUS. The only thing that is keeping me from returning it is the fact that it looks so sleek and beautiful both with and wothout dock. Wonder, how long will I resist from returning it though
Do you guys have the Asus keyboard as your default on-screen keyboard? Mine worked with thumb keyboard as the default then all the sudden one day nothing but the top row worked.
I remember a message saying to ensure the default on-screen keyboard was Asus so i changed it and then everything starting working great again. Not sure if just coincidence or not but thought I'd share...

Samsung car dock charger blowing fuses?

Hey all,
I recently got the official Samsung car dock for our phones but am having issues charging it through the cig lighter. Everytime I plug it into the phone, I blow the fuse for the lighter in my car. I've tried different plug-in sequences (like turn on the car first, then plug it in, then plug in the phone, etc.) to no avail. I've probably gone through about 3 fuses so far.
Since I have a custom stereo installed that I installed myself, I figured I borked up some wiring. However, today I tried to plug it into my wife's car (stock stereo) and immediately blew her fuse, too.
So, before I call and complain to Samsung, does anyone else have this issue? Could this have to do with a bug in CM9? (running the nightlies)
Thanks!
Sounds like something is shorting out internally on the charging dock. Do you have a multimeter? You could check continuity between the negative prongs(ones on the side of cigarette plug) and the positive prong(one on the end of the cigarette plug).

Yeah I do have one. What will I be looking for with that test? I got the multimeter for Xmas a while ago but have never really used it.

Why test?
There is no reason to test, it is 100% the dock's wiring. Just return it, I have had similar issues with other car stuff, like an xm radio dock. Just take it back, don't waste anymore time with it.
Well sure enough I did do a continuity and there is no continuity. I'll be returning it to AT&T. Here's hoping the store will exchange it for me even though I ordered it online. All I need is the cig lighter... the actual dock works perfectly

Charger
I also have the same problem as the op. In metering it, it does seem to be shorted. I haven't blown any fuses but the light on the charger goes out and it looks to be shorted. I got a replacement and it does the exact same thing. I torn the one charger apart and couldn't fine anything wrong that I understood. To get it apart I pretty much broke all of the plastic but the circuit board came out OK. I tried to use a razor blade and scribe around the joint. Just would not come apart. I tried to email Samsung and got no answer. I've just gone on and used another charger that works. It sure appears that there is a problem with a lot of them. I'd like to see it fixed but?

If you're sure it's not a short you can put in a larger fuse into your car just an increase of 5 should help you also have to think how much power the phones may be pulling and the cars not being made to charge a smart phone

"Feel" your Prime charging!

I found this by accident but thought it was an interesting thing to post (hopefully no one else has posted this)!
While charging (with dock or via tablet itself), rub the back of the tablet with your fingertip(s) back and forth. You can unplug the tablet with the other hand and notice that the vibrating feeling goes away (so it's not the texture of the device!). Make sure you don't touch the tablet with any other part of your body or else it will neutralize the effect.

I also had that, try to change the direction of the power adapter
This is a known issue by Asus. They suggest you flip your charger over and that will go away. Just another poor design...
And it works, thanks!
This happen on my Prime and on my MacBook Pro too.

Pretty interesting. Thanks for replying. Is there a reason behind it? Poor grounding?

There is nothing wrong with the design. but there is something wrong with your home grounding system. If you do have a grounding system, and your charger have a grounding feet, it wouldn't happen.
To be honest, most chargers don't ground these days. My UK official prime charger just has a plastic pin for it's 3rd ground pin. Nothing to do with your home grounding when the charger doesn't even ground at all.

indeed . this is just a design flaw.
btw this stuf happens with the tf101 too.
yeah, Also .. with a 3rd party charger touching the screen causes multiple touches to be detected --
Android detects lots of touches and the cursor leaps around - If I hold the metal case it stops.
Took me ages to work out what was happening.
Not sure I can reverse the wiring on charger.
I also have a DELL laptop ( L521x) that is highly charged -- touching the metal case will create a tingling.
it stops if I plug an audio cable in
Happens on my tablet on the top of the keyboard ...where the connector is... my tablet has a Skinomi full body skin...so I don't feel it on the tablet...... and its in a case....

broken charger port....

Ok, let me start out by saying that I'm not posting this in the Q&A section because it's not really a problem that I am seriously thinking about fixing, I just want to get some of ya'lls opinions on it.
Heres the thing: I bought the TF201 the day it came out, along with the keyboard dock, spent something like 700 bucks (leanred a very valuable lesson on that one). About 6 months after that, on day, the black plastic peice that I later learned "kept the charging pins inside of the charging port on the tablet separte and straight" just fell out. Upon further research I discovered that a few others had been experiencing this, and it was apparently a design flaw that would happen if you didn't separate the tablet from the keyboard perfectly straight (i.e. separate one side of the tablet from the keyboard, then at an angle, pull the other side out.) Now, I realize how dumb it was that I was even doing that in the first place, but what can I say. So here's where i'm at now: About 6 months ago, the actual charging usb cable that came with it just completely fell apart. I ordered two new ones. These are not "exactly" the same as the original one and I cannot get it it plug into the tablet directly (probably due to the fact that there is no plastic peice keeping the pins in place, and I dnon't want to push to hard becuase if I bend those pins it's game over). I can, however plug the cable into the keyboard, and the tablet WILL plug into the keyboard quite effortlessly and charge that way. Also, as a side note, nothing on the keyboard works, not a single button, not the track pad, nothing, the only thing it does is charges the tablet, and the keyboard itself will also take a charge.
Whew, ok, if you're still with me after all that, here's what i want some opinion on: Is this thing worth trying to salvage, I would like to get the keyboardworking as well as somehow replace that peice that fell out of the tablet charging port. I honestly do love the tablet, I have a slight weekness in wifi signal but no big deal, and the screen is amazing. so, any thoughts?
I'd say you're screwed :/

Yeah, Thats what i'm thinking. I mean, I still use the tablet all the time, I just can't charge it directly from the port, I have to use the keyboard, the biggest issue I have is that I really wan tthe keyboard to work. Maybe I should just try to pick on up cheap, I don't know....last time I'm buying ASUS though.

Firstly, i would like to inform you that i'm one more person that i had problem with the charger and that the main reason that i don't use my Asus so much is that his wifi signal is really disappointing.
Concerning your problem, you cannot use your keyboard while you charge your tablet through it, right?
