[Q] CM7 in tar format? - Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

Hi, I tried installing CM7 via the CWM/zip method, which appeared to succeed by actually resulted in a boot loop. Found a couple of messages from people with the same problems but no solution.
So. Does anyone have one of the CM7 ROMs in tar image format?

That's for CWM recovery, not CM7.
Also, you have heard about megaupload ... haven't you?

Sorry, I'm tired and read it wrong.
But it's worth trying to reflash Clockworkmod. Make sure it's the EXT4 and not the RFS version. I made that mistake before which got my CM7 stuck in a bootloop.
CM7 doesn't come in .tar format. It only comes in .zip format, which can be downloaded here:
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommana...t.js&name=psyke83&deviceName=Samsung Galaxy 5
Don't forget the Google Apps Package as well:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version/Google_Apps
And the link I gave was multiupload, not megaupload.

Heh, I am also tired! Thanks for the hint...

my personal suggestion is to use Odin to flash the CWM recovery (use the 0.5 or 0.7 version, NOT the v0.6 tar files): once booted in the recovery, do the 4 wipes (if you have the phone fully charged; if not don't do the Battery Stats Wipe); usually I also use to format the partitions, you'll find that in the Mounts menu.
Now, always from the Mounts menu, mount the sdcard as USB mass storage and copy here all the files you need to flash: usually a upgrade-****** package, an hotfix and gapps (full or minimal package that's your choice). Unmount from PC and then unmount fro phone.
Now flash normally by Install zip from sdcard and do as always: first the update-***** archive, than the hotfix and finally the gapps ones.
Now reboot and enjoy!
That's my personal how-to, which never makes me falling into a bootloop!

thank you for your time

Did you perform data and cache wipe before flashing CM7 files and gapps package?
The way to install is always the same, so provide me some details or I cannot tell you more than that..

[ADV][DEV][ZIP] Froyo on eMMC - Clockwork recovery ZIP

This method is depreciated. Please use cicada's ZIP.
Hi,
After a very polite discussion with members of this community. I've simply decided to go back to my life without XDA.
Sorry.
I'll leave you these files which work for sure. These can be flashed using IOMonster's rootpack.
Overlclocked kernel 1100mhz FOR FROYO ONLY you could try out, but this kernel hasn't been exhaustively tested: -Download flashable 1100-froyo-test-kernel-install.zip here. -Download flashable 1100-froyo-test-kernel-removal.zip here. Kernels originally posted by dalingrin, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925451
In case anything goes wrong and your NC won't boot anymore: Flashable zip (to copy to root of sdcard):
-Download flashable repartition-boot-with-froyo.zip here.
-Download flashable repartition-boot-with-stock.zip here.
If you use stock-boot after having flashed froyo, it will not be enough to boot entirely, it will only show you "touch the futur screen". For it to boot completely, you'll have to format system and data, then use complete-restore-to-stock-1.0.1 after that, or install froyo-emmc again. This should only repair your boot (mmcblk0p1) partition, allowing your NC to boot again.
See 'Restore to stock' thread regarding restoring/flashable zip download.
Thank you for your support.
Have fun.
Sam
thank you greatly! ill work on this on the morning!

How hard was it to create?
Any chance of making a flashable zip with the Customized Nookie Froyo 0.5.9 Image?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922324
Awesome!!!
@above: i agree, that would be useful
Gonna pick a nook color up today this looks great thanks for ur hard work.
One think can a guy just make a backup via cwr?
Well that's a question you should ask IOMonster. But one thing is sure, the sd's size (1gb) wont suffice for a total backup of the nook. And I'm not sure nandroids are totally stable yet..

Anything is possible. Actually, all you would need to do from now on to make a flashable "mod", would be to make an .img of your customized system (with dd), making sure you leave all private data out of it. And then copy it to my existing zip by replacing the existing /tmp/system.img. The script would do the rest.
Well that's if you don't need to copy anything to /data. In that later case script would need just a few more lines...
That's all..

I've restored from a CWM backup several times to replace a development image that was less than functional . As long as:
1) you only need to restore /boot, /data/ and /system
2) your new update .zip doesn't break CWM (doesn't replace uRecRam)
It should work fine.
Even if it does break CWM on install, IOMonsters SD should still work fine. Just some thoughts...
Can anyone place these files on a mirror? Can't d/l from work....blocked by IT. >=(
I'm trying to download the files but the website won't let me. It's stuck in loop.
Superb!
Thanks so much. I've been really looking forward to this.
Also, fyi, I had to use IE to download the image, didn't work with Chrome.

I got hung up trying to dd the blocks (mmcblk0p3), then device rebooted on its own...then got stuck in bootloop...pulled the sd card and shut down for 5 - 10 mintues.
turned on to see and it booted fine back to Auto-nootered Eclair....
Now just waiting to be able to download file....
So, I have a CWM backup image that I've successfully restored in the past, that should suffice right?
Also, is it actually necessary to use this bootable CWM or is it possible to install the zip directly from CWM on my device?
For those who has done this (emmc), is it yielding noticable improvement over SD cards? One of my chief complaints about the current Froyo build is the lag (opening gmail can take upwards of 2 mintues sometimes, among a host of other complaints. How is the responsiveness now?
It should also work with internal cw recovery. But then you have no way back without an sdcard, because cwr dosent boot on nookie yet.

So cwr doesn't work with nookie froyo yet? Does that mean that I can't flash a kernel without using the sdcard and in doing so loose all data because it will overwrite the boot partition? I think I'm confused

[HOWTO] Install Mik's CM 7 Gingerbread port for Dummies

DUMMIES, FOLLOW THIS STEPS TO INSTAL MIK_OS GINGERBREAD CYANOGENMOD 7 PORT:
FIRST OF ALL GO HERE AND READ MIK's POST and thank Mik for his work!!!!!!!!!!!!
READ THE CHANGELOGS AND THE KNOWN BUGS!!!!!
Let's suppose you have Froyo on your device and want to go Gingerbread:
- you need: root, custom recovery, and rom zip from here
- boot into recovery, go to backup/restore and do a backup. For your own privet safety, you could use TitaniumBackup before booting into recovery to backup your files and settings.
- while in custom recovery, go to wipe and perform all wipes. WIPE DATA AND CACHE IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM FROYO! Go to adb shell and make a /system wipe (mount /system in recovery; adb shell rm -rf /system/*), or copy this file on sd, and flash it via cusom recovery to automatically wipe your /system data
- after the wipe, put your rom on the sd card - get the beta2 here , and flash it from custom recovery.
- wait until it boots up and set the phone up. If you're stuck on LG logo it means you didn't performe the wipes corectly, mainly the system wipe.
- you will have no google apps after the install, so go here and get them, or manually download them from market
- you now have Mik_os unofficial CyanogenMod 7 2.3.3 on you phone. Install TitaniumBackup and perform a restore if you used this metod to backup your data as i described in the second step.
Now, if you have an older version of Mik's CM7:
-boot into recovery and flash the newer version just like that. It will update the one you have on your device, and no data will be lost.
GO AGAIN TO THE OFFICIAL DEV THREAD AND RE-READ THE BUGS AND CHANGELOGS. AND AGAIN... THANK MIK FOR HIS WORK!!!!!
If you have questions about Mik's port, go to the correct thread and ask them! This is not a developer thread, it is just for info, or for those of you who are new to xda and cannot post in dev threads.
AND AGAIN, THANK MIK FOR HIS WORK, AND BUY HIM A LOLLYPOP VIA PAYPAL.
I have tried your steps but could not install this ROM. It got stuck on the boot animation. An it wasn't CM7 animation. Tried few times but without any luck. Now i am back to my old rom. atleast i did not brick my phone but i will sure give it a another try
You are probabily stuck at the lg logo. You should try to wipe the system manually, by adb or flashing the zip I linked in the original post, in the third step. I had the same problem, but this solves it.

I wasn't stuck on LG Logo. I had Megatron installed, it went through LG logo, then got stuck Megatron's Android Logo. Seems the rom was never installed properly and i have tried few times.
I have wiped everything, i have flashed from the zip you provided, and also i re-partitioned the sd card but it never worked
Did you got any errors when flashing cyanogen zip? From what you said, I think you shoul rewipe everything, part the sd 0 swap, ext 2 to ext3 and ext3 to ext 4. Make sure that you have the check for signed option in custom recovery.

How did you do the system wipe? You flashed the zip for wipeing or did you do it from adb shell?

I used custom recovery, nandroid back up, then re-partition the sd card. then wiped the card, then usb toggle to copy 2 zips on to sd card. flashed debug system just in case and then flashed mik's rom. I don't know where did it go wrong.
Would have been great if someone made a step by step video and put that on youtube

Yes, I think so. Don't worry about it for the moment. if it worked for you, it will work for me too. I may have missed something that i can't remember. I will give it a try again this weekend
Although if you could give me the Partition requirements. I know the swap should be zero. But how much should i use for ext2?
Ext partiton can be how big you want, it's where a2sd puts the files and other cache info. I use 512 mb, and works flawless.
I will make a video guide in the morning, and link it in the original post.

Do I need to install that new recovery? Or is the one you posted a link to OK?
There is a new recovery that's been in the development forum for a few weeks that says it's for gingerbread.

The link i posted goes to another thread that explains some basic stuff. Including the recovery. But i didn't find any problems using different versions of custom recovery. So go for which one you like more, as long as it can backup your system
1. go in recovery mode
2. wipe everything
3. then go to others
4. mount/system
5. flash the system zip
6. flash the rom zip
7. reboot
it worked for me. hope it helps
Ruwin buddy, you will be happy to know that i am using Mik's rom. I still don't know what went wrong last time. If some thing that i had done differently, that would not upgrading ext3 to ext4.
Thanks buddy for the support and the tips
Thank you very much!!! Will try this today.
Is it possible to get the SMS widget back? The simple one from Market sucks...
Do I need to partition the SD-card?? The directions made no mention of this.
how to enable 3G mode only in this rom ?
Good work, very useful.

ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.4 can't mount USB Storage

So I've got a wifi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1" and I have gone through the rooting guide. The guide includes ClockworkMod (CWM) v4.0.0.4, which for the most part, works just fine. I'm able to flash custom ROMs, make backups, and restore backups.
I'm having a problem mounting USB storage from CWM however. I go to the "Mounts and Storage Menu" and then select "mount USB storage." When I do this, I get a message saying:
E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
Any ideas what this means, and how to fix it? Is anyone else able to mount USB storage from their CWM recovery image?
Anyone can correct me if I'm mistaken...but I believe the reason we see this error is because the Tab is not like phones and the internal storage works differently, there is no sd card so it has nothing to mount. I believe it works more like a hard drive. (MTP is different although I know nothing about it) so CWM produces this error but it is nothing to worry about.
More knowledgeable persons please expound on this, I would like to know more too...
Appreciate the insight -- I hope someone else can expand. To expound on that though, how do you transfer a ROM to the SDcard if you wipe /data and don't already have a ROM available on the SDcard?
I'm worried that I'll accidentally wipe data & cache, but will forget to double-check that I have a ROM on the SDcard partition.
Not to worry, wipe data/factory reset in CWM does nothing to the sd card partition everything will still be there including the ROM file you transferred over.
However factory reset from stock recovery DOES wipe sd card data. So back up your stuff if you do this.
Oh and always make a backup in CWM so you have something to flash in case things get crazy
I'm just trying to plan for a worst case scenario -- let's say all the storage volumes are completely wiped, and all you can do is boot into CWM. On my T-Mobile G2 (Desire Z / Vision), you can mount USB storage, copy over a ROM, and install it.
Looking for some sort of equivalent ability on the Galaxy Tab.
Hmm, let me boot into CWM and see if the computer still can read the tabs storage if I plug it in from there...
Also there is always an ODIN flash.
Nope no dice, i suppose if you were in that scenario ODIN would be your option. I'm not sure if there is an ODIN flashable of stock 3.1, I know there is a .zip i always keep it for emergencies.
Sorry I miss read, there is no ODIN flash.
Would the worst scenario is when you don't even have CWM on the tab?
ODIN flash would probably be your last resort. I am wondering if anyone has run into the worst scenario and got the tab back to the factory stock ROM.
your are right FilltheVoid. if things go completely wrong and you have no backup or rom to flash. Odin will be your savior. You can flash stock roms with Odin bro.

Hey Task, do you know where I can find a stock ROM for pt7510 that is ODIN flashable? Ya know, just in case.
Well anywho, I think the point of this is, If you read and follow directions carefully, make backups, and read some more, you will not ever be in this scenario. And there are good, knowledgeable people in this forum that are willing to help you in a bind.

1. http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/sys-backup/hc_31/ - But i read somewhere that this is the ODIN flashable stock of I/O tab
2. ROM | 001002-P7510_KME_Restock.zip - ODIN flashable Stock UEKME ROM
Or you could do:
Boot cwm, then
adb shell
mount /data
mkdir /data/media
adb push stock.zip /data/media/
and flash with cwm
Voila !!!
thank you!
you just saved my tablet! thank you.
i managed to brick my tablet (or so i thought) by an interesting combination of things.
first, i installed Alegro graphing calculator. then, i encrypted my tablet. then, i tried to backup my apps, using titanium backup, and whenever it got to alegro, it crashed superuser, market, myapps, googleapps, calendar, acore...a ton of stuff. so i told titanium to ignore it and backup everyything else, and then i went to the market to try to uninstall. no dice..it force closed everything again. so i went to the settings and tried to factory reset. i went through the steps three times, and nothing happened...the tablet rebooted and was the same as i left it.
so as a last resort i went into clockwork and wiped data and cache. tried to boot, and it was stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 screen.
rebooted..same...waiting hours...same.
i could still boot to odin and recovery, but i didn't have a zip on my tablet, so i couldn't flash anything. i never thought of using adb to push the zip! but this worked perfectly! (after installing the drivers again on my computer).
thank you thank you thank you!

Hey 2 questions about the restock ROM:
1) Can it be flashed over In Paris V5?
2) Can it be flashed with CWM?
Update: answered this myself: Yes it can be flashed over in Paris, and no, it has to be flashed with Odin.
I still have a question though: This is not CWM, but is it the stock recovery or do I need to flash that too? Sending the tab in for service (newton's rings)....
This is what I was looking for. I have a slow internet connection, and Clockwork was still working, but nothing else was. Flashed Task's ROM v8... it's looking good so far... You rock, dude.
This worked for me this afternoon! Was stuck in a constant reboot after thinking that the samsung update would be a good thing. Gave thanks!!! Ordered the 30 pin adapter and now dont even need it. Will come in handy though I am sure.

This maybe complete rubbish, but I can report a similar issue with the Galaxy S2.
When I install a new ROM, I usually do this:
1/ factory reset
2/ wipe cache
3/ wipe dalvik
4/ Mount ALL the folders, then format each one
When I do this and try to mount USB storage, it says the same error message.
If you then fire up ODIN and push another kernel to the phone, everything works fine. I know its something I am doing wrong, but no idea what!
For you, the solution is to use odin to push another kernel across.

[Q] Does my Omega installing plan need adjustment?

Hey guys,
I am completely new to this whole topic so I read several hours and finally came up with a plan for what to do to install omega when my Galaxy S3 i9300 (my first android phone) will arrive tomorrow.
If you spot any mistakes I would make (also in the files I plan on using), please correct me!
1. Upgrading to Jellybean with Kies
2. Installing CWM (File name is CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5 - It's a .tar) via Odin 3.0.4 in download mode- I think I know how to do that
3. Rebooting in Recovery mode and creating a Backup File with CWM - I think I know how to do that
4. Saving the Backup file from the clockworkmod\backup folder on my PC
5. Rebooting in recovery mode and wiping data, cache and dalvik cache - I think I know how to do that
5. Copying the .zip file of Omega to (a folder called root??) internal SD-Card folder of the Galaxy S3 (File name is I9300_Omega_v31_XXDLJ4_Jelly_Bean)
6. Rebooting in recovery mode again and selecting “install zip from SD card” to install the Omega zip
7. Customize like a boss
done
(optional)
8. Realize something doesn't work properly and spam the forums with QQ threads OR Realize I bricked my brand new phone and cry furiously
Thanks in advance for letting me know if my plan needs adjustment

Do factory reset, than wipe dalvik.
Than flash Omega.
Finally reboot and enjoy
But I'm recommending InsertCoin, because it is easy theamble with better themes, very stable (still haves some problems, but reboot solves them), mostly no lags, good memory managing.

Hey,
thanks for your answer! I have to install jellybean first if I want to install a ROM for Jellybean, right? So I guess that's not explicitly in the instructions but it's still a requirement?? Or does Omega install Jellybean itself?
I am really not sure, but I think I have to install Jellybean first.

[Q] Can't load ROM's with fakeCID ulock?

Hello XDA,
I am a noob to the forum, but not to rooting my peripherals. I just came from an HTC Inc 2 that I previously had just DevUnlocked via HTC, then went full root with S-off via tacoroot method. I since have retired the phone and now have a DInc 4G LTE verizon. I have just used the FakeCID script method to gain bootloader unlock. I now have superuser installed and TWRP as the recovery. The question I have is relating to ROM installation. I have tried to install both ViperLTE and PizzutoClaws ROM's with no luck. I erase every thing 3x as stated in various posts as well as factory reset and system erase. When installing the ROM's, the aroma installer boots up and does the usual walk through, but at the end of the selections to install right after the selection for 'dirty wipe or full wipe' the aroma installer shows it's wiping the cache and such for a few seconds then immediately goes right to the 'Installation complete' screen. There should be some wait time and a loading bar showing the rom is loading. Both ROM's are doing this and thus the ROM is not installed. Is it possible I have an issue with the bootloader unlock? I have since reverted back to the stock ROM still at ****TAMPERED**** ****UNLOCKED**** with super user. I really would like to install a new ROM and could use some guidance. Thanks.

Hello XDA,
I am a noob to the forum, but not to rooting my peripherals. I have tried to install both ViperLTE and PizzutoClaws ROM's with no luck. are you flashing the boot.img via adb this is required if you are not s-off.
also check the zip on the sdcard and make sure you don't have (2)zips on it, make sure the rom zip is not in any other folder on card, must be at the root of the sdcard
also, you need to be on software 2.17.605.2-which I assume you are to be unlocked

Thanks for the response. I have verified both ROM files are just .zip files. I even did MD5 check sum and the files are matching. I have placed them on the root of the SD card. I did notice however that when I am in ES file explorer the directory shows /sdcard/ with files that look similar to the root of the SD card, but then there is also ext_sd and when I select that, it lists the files I loaded on the SD card. I load the files via SD reader and not through the phone. Is it possible I could move the ROM over to the sdcard/ directory or should it be on the ext_sd. This Inc4g storage allocation is different than the DInc2....confusing.

yes the zip needs to be on ext-sdcard not the internal card.

Forgot to mention that I have also tried to flash the boot.img files via fastboot. this is normal practice for HTC phone with unlocked bootloader only if I am not mistaken. I pull the boot.img file from the ROM zip. a quick note though, I noticed when doing the flash for the recovery or boot image, in the bootloader screen, the right side load bar show's up green as it's loading, but right after the bar is highlighted red and will show a quarter of red bar for a brief second. I noticed too that the twrp recovery will not load all the time. sometimes I have to pull the battery and retry.

what version of twrp are you using-the is an official twrp 2.4.3 now

I initially used the 2.4.3.0 version. after the initial issues, I went to twrp site and downloaded the latest 2.4.4 and still having the same issues. Another note, I noticed on the ROM installation instructions on either rom, there is no mention of the System-erase button use. This is the one that erases the current ROM. I tried just factory reset 3x, cache erase 3x and delvik cache 3x with out doing the system erase. flash the rom going through the aroma installer, then flashing the boot img. the phone will boot back into the stock ROM. I'm still wondering why the aroma installer says the rom loaded so quickly after doing the full wipe 4xt format with out showing any load progress. On the Inc2 I had, I switched rom's regularly with no issues and the ones that used aroma installer, has some wait time to load the rom files. I guess I will try a full format on the SD card and just load the rom zips to see if that does anything. Thanks again for the replies. Much appreciated.:good:

I had this exact same problem when using TWRP 2.4.3.0. I re-flashed my phone with TWRP 2.3.3.0 and my ROMS installed without any issues.

Thanks for the suggestion. That was my other consideration, to go with a lower rev recovery. I will try that and see if it works. :good:
Success!!!

Success!!!!! Thanks for the last tip to try a lower recovery version. Seems TWRP 2.4 on up didn't work allowing the Aroma Installer to complete installation. I have downgraded to twrp version 2.3.3.0 and the ROM's flash now. Thank you XDA community!!!

A discussion about this starts here and continues for a couple pages.
The 2.4.x series TWRP recoveries have been working fine to install Sense based ROMs with Aroma installers for numerous individuals. You should only need to: Wipe > Factory Reset (this takes care of all types of cache as well) and Wipe > System. As mentioned before, ensure the zip file you're installing is on the external storage. In TWRP, at the install screen, toggle the radio button back and forth between Internal Storage and External Storage to make sure you are reading the zip from the external storage (I've seen the file list show the wrong contents before until it is toggled).
Edit: TWRP 2.4.3.0 and newer seem to have trouble with Aroma

Thanks for the feedback, mdmower. I had done a complete format of my sd card on the comp and loaded only the zip file on the card. I also had done 3x factory wipe/reset, 3x cache delete and 3x delvik cache wipe. All of my attempts at getting the ROMS to load failed. The aroma installer would go through the setup, but when it executed the actual writing/flashing of the files, it wouldn't finish. The program stated that the zip file was 'Installed successfully, but no OS was actually loaded(stuck at white HTC boot screen). I tried this with different twrp recoveries. It wasn't until I used twrp version 2.3.3.0 that the ROM's load successfully. I have since flashed Pizzuto claw's and now running ViperLTE. I am thinking of going with CM10.1 now, but not sure of the latest nightly release. Waiting for a stable release. Question, noticed your device list shows your using CM10.1. How is it working for you? any real bugs? I need sim card support as i travel overseas and have different sim cards for the various regions I visit. :good:

First thing, drop this habit. A single factory reset will suffice.

Issues with aroma and TWRP versions 2.4.3.0 and greater have been confirmed (possibly other 2.4.x releases). The folks behind TWRP suspect a problem with make_ext4fs, but it is unclear whether the blame lies within TWRP, the update_binary, or the particular make_ext4fs called by Aroma.

Read the first post in the CM thread. Others have successfully used CM outside the U.S.
