As you can see he's an awesome developer. We need someone like this in the Amaze forums.

If he is actually wanting to work on the amaze I'd be glad to donate, mdeejay does great stuff used his stuff on the sensation. This is a dev I would love to get the device to if he is actually wanting to work on the amaze and own a device. Kinda sucks right now to get a device for someone at this moment with newer devices coming out it seems like most devs want to move on to those newer devices. It'd be awesome to have a dev who would actually want to own and use an amaze. Back when I was on the galaxy s2 forum they got Eugene373 a phone and because he was gonna use it as his phone he ended up bringing them so much great roms. To throw a device into a devs hands who is just willing to work on a couple roms for us, is kind of a shakey idea on one side its great and appreciated that they wanna help the amaze community out on the other hand they got lives and their preferred devices so you never know how long they will be willing to help out for.

I would argue the quoted part above - our device still isn't even remotely obsolete. I was at a tmobile yesterday with a guy who works there who owned an amaze previously, but they gave him a htc one.. he isn't impressed. It is slimmer, and it includes beats - but otherwise it is the same phone without being able to access battery or have a microSD.
Sure, the international version is quad-core, but the newest phones in the US haven't made any attempt at pushing hardware specs-- we are still good competition.
There are a ton of devs that are still developing for devices that are definitely inferior to ours spec wise, that alone is a very big factor.. if they use our phone, they will fall in love(or they have bad taste!)

Well I partially agree with you, its not so much that the amaze is a bad device, its not behind the curve nor is it stale, however, the newer devices are easier to dev for from looking at the one s and one x even with no kernel source they are farther along. I love the amaze and I don't see anything compelling enough to upgrade to anytime soon. With that being said the amaze is no walk in the park to dev for, with missing drivers its already a not so easy phone to deal with, I truly hope if mdeejay or any developer that gets our device for that matter likes it the way owners of it do so that they can see a reason to get it beyond just helping us.

When I had an Iconia I used his ROMs and they were pretty good. He helped out when he could. I would like to see more developers here too, but until we have a complete source code we not be left to rust. I'm grateful for all the support right now but we only have one custom kernel.

We need RIL. Bug HTC and VZW for the kernel. #HTCUSA #VZW
Lets not, so we don't piss them off and ruin our chances.

Given that we have already received nothing from them, is there really anything to lose?
I mean, the only thing they can hold back is the ICS official ROM, but we already have that...
If they do release the official rom, they cannot legally hold back the kernel source. So, what can they do?
I seriously considered a few days ago what would happen if one of us kindly emailed HTC explaining everything and politely asking for the kernel source.
THEY CAN HAVE US ALL ARRESTED FOR INTERNETS HARASSMENT, CHARLES CARREON HAS FREE TIME NOW.
Actually, the only thing we can do is keep asking, hashtag it up gentlemen, but keep it CLASSY. Type like English is your first language. Though they do hate bad PR, totally going to put #HatesCustomers on the end.

Any advice what I should write?
VZW could give a **** less and bugging them will never result in anything positive development-wise; they will release on whatever schedule/circumstances suits them, customers be damned...but I'm all for pounding on HTC via social sites or other avenues, i.e. petitions, letters, etc.

Tell them how sense slows down the device and we want AOSP but that's only possible with source and you should probably tell them about all the drama that goes on around here because we don't have it, oh and all the devs leaving us
You nuts? You gotta at least tell them something they want to hear. Try something kind of like this:
To whom it may concern,
I am an aspiring Android developer and for years, I've absolutely loved Android devices from HTC. In fact, the Galaxy SIII, Nexus, and other competitor phones have zero appeal to me because I've always loved HTC. I don't feel comfortable with any other hardware manufacturer because I know I can always expect great design, ergonomics, and a manufacturer-designed user interface that makes sense (so much so that you guys even call it Sense).
My latest device is the HTC Rezound, but I upgraded before the One X and other devices were coming out because Verizon is the carrier in my area with the best signal quality. I love my Rezound because it reeks of the superb design and quality I can always expect from HTC. However, I like to develop on it as well, and I've recently hit a few snags because I lack the kernel source for the phone. So I ask as a loyal customer, could you please let me have it?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Your fan,
[NAME HERE]
Their not going to release a ICS kernel source when it hasn't even officially been rolled out yet in my opinion. Hopefully when it is released they drop the source quickly.

7 MONTHS?! That should be illegal. What the hell was stopping them?
As for our source, I doubt they are allowed by Verizon to release anything before OTA drops. Which will not happen until their new cash cow (Droid Incredible 4G) has had time to move plenty of units. So... probably no sooner than 2 weeks from now. That's if you're optimistic.
"...reeks of the superb design and quality..."
Perhaps not the best choice of words, lol.
But seriously, thanks for trying. This is too good a phone for HTC to let ignominiously die.

Though, they did make him remove custom roms as well. This is the last thing HTC needs to do right now. If they try stopping development of custom roms, they are going to piss off their biggest supporters. Why do they keep shooting themselves in the foot? Re: HTC to Crack Down on Sense-based ROMs?
Well this is the last htc device ill get. The direction the new phones have gone like the DROID dna no sd slot no removable battery and terrible battery life I'm done. Samsung has my money now since they support developers and make awesome devices. Cept the DROID charge was the worst phone ever which makes me hesitate on another samsung. I'll be getting a gs3 or gs4 for my next phone. Sense has some nice thing but it's unfriendly to developers and makes the phone run like crap.

It would be nice to get XDAs opinion/position on this so we know what should be done
Re: HTC to Crack Down on Sense-based ROMs?
HTC can even demand the xda handover the domain and close down.. after all they do have stuff on HTC roms. Xda also needs to realize that perhaps open.sourced in the future may only mean open to the phone makers only since in reality HTC does not really use android but really uses a closed fork of android called sense UI. It really is its on operating system that can.just run.google apps. HTC can.change.that to,run only its apps
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Like I said in the off-topic thread, I think there's more to this story than we're getting. And, like JeramyEggs pointed out, they were using HTC trademarks in an unauthorized way, and doing it as a site (not its users). It's hard to even make a comparison between what they were doing and what we do on xda.
HTC probably just feels like an idiot for saying things such as the Rezound cannot run a Sense 4 ROM when it clearly can. Or they could have the heads so far up their own asses that they think people will be porting Sense to phones made by other companies. Sites like the one listed should just move to China where they don't believe in intellectual property rights!
Re: HTC to Crack Down on Sense-based ROMs?
I think the Government should keep their hands off and let the Market work. HTC needs to reach out to the dev community, however, they also need protect their properties.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Based on the entirety of the situation, this seems to really be more about the name and trademarks. To the uninformed, it could very easily have looked like an HTC sanctioned website...HTC was in the name, and it was hosting HTC software. They were using HTC logos as well. Legally, HTC had to shutdown that site. Trademark law is very specific. If you don't defend your trademark, you lose it. I have no issue with trademark law because the provisions are fair, and a company's trademark, maybe even more so than their products, are central to their corporate identity. HTC did what they had to do. Maybe you think they should have "let it go" or been lenient, but doing so puts their trademarks at risk, which jeopardizes their company and business model.
I think we got off track here so I will ask my question.
Does anyone think the devs are gonna get their butts kicked by HTC

No, the main reason they wanted him to take the RUU off the site. Because he had the code names and HTC said that people would see that as a pre released ruu and not post. They went as far as asking him to remove the custom roms because the site name had HTC and he used their trademark logo of the green HTC quietly brilliant.
if htc wanted all work to be removed. XDA would have a C & D letter by now.
there's also a open sense SDK, i dont think if they wanted all custom roms they would have released that kit. IMO

PA (aosp) is awesome... CM is awesome... Sense is awesome... AOKP is awesome... Motoblur is crap... TouchWiz is crap... there you have it
(These are just in random order as I thought of them)
PA would be ok on our phones, there would be no point in using the PIE feature as we have capacitive buttons, but the independent DPI feature would be nice as well as the color scheme feature (I use PA on my nexus 7)

regardless of whether or not you like sense, insulting the community and the developers that enjoy the shipped oem skin is pointless.....and makes you look bad
if you really need an aosp rom, then buy a phone that already has it up and running, or a stock google phone
if the carrier you are on doesnt have a stock google phone there are generally other phones that at least have very stable aosp roms
fwiw, drew and chad have done great work on their aosp projects, so its not like there will never be anything worth using on this phone for it
theres always the option that you could learn android programming and development on your own and contribute back to the community rather than just complaining
I would also be interested in testing PA. Loved it on my Nexus, can't wait for it on the DNA
So it seems there is that Chinese Rom with Sense 4.1 and working 3D, this is amazing, however, it is the only one of it's type.
The fact that HTC did not release the Driver Sources made me somehow hate them and it was the reason why many bugy couldnt be fixed, many devs left.
So, this Chinese Rom is removed because it is not allowed according to the rules, but... why exactly?
Could someone please post information on this story, really, this is EXTREMELY important, it could change our 3volife
Is it because it's a Viper fix, why then don't they release the fix?
So, the simple question is:
What's the fuzz about the 3D-fix? Somehow no one knows whats going on!
I'm gonna make it as brief as possible.
We can't release it on XDA or link to it because it is considered kang. The ROM is based off of a Viper3D build and was used without permission. Now unless Team Venom gives us permission to release their ROM with working 3D here on XDA, we can't do it because then that's kanging someone else's work, and that's highly frowned upon here, and leads to heavy infractions

I can not understand how is it possible that only one team is capable to make 3D work. Why can not someone else make it from the basis without their rom?

I am pretty sure coolexe or anryl or mwakious could do it if they have time
Somebody could definitely do it, but it would be a very hard thing to do since HTC doesn't hand out their 3D drivers. That team who got it working guaranteed was working for weeks and weeks on end getting it working, somebody here could do it for sure, but nobody has tried yet, and its probably something that's more trouble than its worth. Even if we looked at what that team did to get it working we can't use any of that, or even copy any of that because then it would still be kanging their work. Its something we either A) need to get permission for or B) take care of ourselves, but have that be 10000x harder. Its not impossible, but it is improbable
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
This is ridiculous in my opinion.
I'll probably get flamed but the whole purpose of android being open source is so anyone and everyone can contribute and make it a better experience.
I understand the HTC drivers are proprietary, but in my eyes, if you've made something better why not share it with the world...are these 'team' members making money on these fixes, are they coming out with their own proprietary phones...that's the only reason I can see to necessitate keeping these fixes to yourself...yes I applaud any ROM dev for their work (I sure as hell couldn't do what they do) but what's the point in the end? Bragging rights? Come on!

Come on!

Android is open source, you changed is the exclusive copyright? This is not unreasonable.
If anyone need help, you can email me
The rules centered around this are not android related. It has nothing to do with open source, they're xda's rules. It makes sense why they're there (that way we don't see the same exact ROM under a different name pop up every 20 minutes, etc.). I don't like the rule either but hey, its just something we gotta live with

I think that we could do an exception for 3D in 4.1 sense...

GSM - working like a charm. Using the 2.0 version. Aroma is in Germany but pretty understandable.

Sieht gut aus, heruntergeladen! I'll probably tear the rom apart and see about making it CDMA worthy, though I won't be able to share it once I'm done being it's Kang'ed...

No lags at all. What I experienced was huge battery drain. So, right now, I oam in the process of reverting back to stock ROM. Tired of all these tests. Gonna get SIII tomorrow anyway
So we have fixed 3D camera now? ICS or JB?
Don't seem to see a straight answer. Only that it is using venom tweaks without perms..?
