Galaxy S2 won't start after installing aDownloader - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

About 20 minutes ago I tried to download something via wifi using aDownloader (free torrent downloader from the market). I received a warning saying I don't have enough space or something and it was correct, I didn't. So I immediately went into the program's settings to change the download folder (while still downloading) and that's when the phone froze.
I removed its battery and tried to power it back on, but no luck. It doesn't vibrate for half a second before showing the logo. The screen stays off. The battery was half full and when I try to charge the phone, there's nothing on the screen (like it used to be). Only a quiet sound, meaning that the phone is indeed charging, but without indicating it.
Is it possible the internal memory is completely full? I also have a memory card. I tried to remove both the SD card and the SIM, but nothing's changing.

Have you tried to reboot into recovery mode, press and hole volume up, power button and home button together, you should then boot into recevery mode.

I've tried that twice, but no luck.
I've had no problem with the phone until now and it crashed while in the program.

You could try booting into download mode, and then using odin to flash a new rom, but you could lose all your data unless you have backed it up.
Also you could connect your phone to your computer and access the file system through their, try and free upsome space, remove what ever you tried to download.

I'm going to try that as well, but where I am right now I don't have a good usb cable (just one that charges and nothing else). Is there something else I could try in the absence of a USB cable?

Not without having your phone fully running
You should try flashing a new Kernel first, one that will give you access to Clockworkmod

Damn. Ok, thanks for your quick responses! I'll be back in a few days, I guess.

Ok so I've gotten my hands on a data cable, but I can't even enter download mode and nothing happens when I plug the cable in. The phone is completely unresponsive.

Does the phone boot at all ?
If not & you can't get into download mode, your last (faint) hope before returning it to your carrier/Samsung would be a jig. Probably won't work, but worth a try for a few bucks. Actually, there's a thread on here where people have offered their jigs for other people to use.
Check that thread & see if there's someone near you on the list. Might save you a week or so waiting for a jig to arrive, that way if the jig doesn't work you can send it in for repair/replacement sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately there's no one near my location. I think I'll take the phone to a service since I'll probably have my waranty void if I take it to my carrier. I haven't installed a custom ROM, but I did root it.

Vibrant won't do turn on

I tried to upgrade to froyo using the odin method from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950. After everything was successfully done my phone shut off and now it won't turn on. I don't get a battery charge screen or anything. The phone's just blank.....
First, Get the Shipping rom (pit and tar files) so you can ODIN back to stock
Be sure you have the newest version of ODIN
Then remove the battery, plug the USB to the PC.
Now put the battery back.
Press both vol keys (up and down) and hold.
That should get you in Download Mode.
If it does not work, take battery out, unmplug USB.
Put battery back and try again to go into download mode.
Now you put the wrong version of froyo, if your keys maps are changed you may be screwed
If so, good luck! You are gonna need a lot of research to see if you can save it
i think i'm screwed.....nothing is working
If anyone else could help me with this, it would be great. I'm in between a rock and a wall right now with my phone.
you flashed the wrong rom. You didn't know that, did you?

No I didn't know that sadly. Is there anyway I can save my phone?
Hehehehe...I bricked mine yesterday. I disabled voodoo via Voodoo Toggle and waited for Linda to convert. I loaded up Odin and put in my pit & tar for JFD, which I always use, and hit start. I was on Nero v3 going to flash Nero v4 when it came out. I got a Fail part of the way through. The phone won't power on at all.....A popup says Windows can't recognize the device plugged into usb...
I think people are confusing things here and there...if your phone won't power on at all, you can't get help...you can't get into download mode to odin or recover it.
Like mine, for instance, there is no amount of times taking the battery out or doing this or that is gonna fix it..We need to read the post before we try to offer help...IF IT WON'T POWER ON how can people post ways to ODIN or RECOVER...
I'm just sayin....

Well right now I'm simply trying to get the phone to turn on which it won't, I was not asking for help to odin or recover. I was trying to ask if anyone else had this problem and if my phone is totally killed or if there's a possibility that i can save it. But thanks for your 2 cents.
Me too
I had ordered Samsung Vibrant Unlocked from T-Mobile USA around a month back. I am well past the 30 day replacement now.
I Rooted it updated to Axura 2.2.5.9
After all the procedure got completed, I rebooted the phone and now it just won't start at all.
My piece is Hardware Locked wherein I can't get into the Recovery Mode, but can get into the Download Mode. But I am not even able to get into the Download mode now.
It just won't freaking turn on.
If I send it over for repair, as the phone is a rooted one, will I void the warranty ?
Please reply quickly. I am starting to freak out.
OK... I want to be the first to eat my words here!!!!!
I tried one last time...just now
I took everything out and only held the volume keys. I plugged in the USB cable to the PC and then to the phone & put the battery in and BAM!!!!! it came on in Download mode
This way has NEVER worked for me without holding the power button. This phone was in all senses of the word "DEAD". I figured I would give it a try with just the volume keys.

it is completely dead. I am using a new battery and a known good usb cable to the computer.

Different Situation
I have a similar problem with my Vibrant.
I reset my battery stats and also disabled VooDoo lagfix, and after i tried to reboot the phone, it froze on the vibrant screen.
I tried using soome of the methods that you guys posted before me, but then after i turn it on it shows an icon that there is a connection problem between the phone and PC.
I CAN turn on the phone, is there a way to just like reset everything? and if so how?
Thanks!

If your phone powers on at all, you should be able to get into DL mode. Follow the instructions on how to revert to stock via ODIN.
In reply to the OP, if you tried the download mode method:
connect phone to usb
pull out battery
hold both volume sticks
put in batttery
and the phone still does not turn on even after multiple tries , well you're a bit screwed. But, Samsung cannot detect if the phone has been rooted if it cannot even turn on. Just tell them the Kies Mini update bricked the phone.
omg leave ur phone on charger for 10 min, pull battery out when hooked up to charger put battery back in , let sit for few min pull battery out hook up phone to computer hold vol up vol down pop battery in , helped ? np this has been answered gazilion times in other threads
btw it takes few try this way to get it back up running so dont stop on first , hey .
If you have the phone!pc problem..connect to odin & see if your showing a COM port .... just flash pit & tar if you do. Without download mode

You're talking about a DIY Jig. A JTAG is completely different. They cost $150-300. You can pay to have a local repair shop jtag it for around $50 or send it to Samsung to repair/replace. I'm still trying to find out how much Samsung would charge for the repair if it's deemed out of warranty.
If your phone refuses to turn on no matter what you do and it gets warm or hot if you leave the battery in it, read on:
I hope my suggestion is not too late. I was in the situation before. I tried everything everyone said here and somewhere else. None of them works.
The reason that those methods don't work because you cannot get to download or recovery mode or even the pc-phone screen since your phone won't turn on. The reason that your phone doesn't turn on because the bootloader has been messed up. A jig will work only if your phone can be turned on somehow.
Three possible solutions:
1. Repair or replace it with T-mobile, or
2. Get someone to repair it with a riff box or other similar tool, or
3. Get the box and fix it yourself (not recommended if you are not familiar with electronic stuff.)
This is the link for the same problem you have; this guy bought the box and has his phone fixed himself. If you live in US, he may do it for you if you have no place to go. It does hurt to ask.

[Q]Galaxy S2 i9100 keeps rebooting on standby

Hello, yesterday I cleared some cache using some app called "App Cache Cleaner - 1 Tap Clean" because my Dad's phone was low on storage, and it cleaned allright and then I umnounted the 2GB SD Card and then rebooted the phone. I don't know if this could be the cause, but ever since I did it the phone always reboots when the phone autolocks (or someone locks it). Sometimes it even reboots and stays black (note when someone calls you don't get a message that the subscriber is offline, it keeps ringing!) and then I have to hold the power button long enough for the phone ro reboot...
I removed the SD Card, tried factory reset, but nothing seems to work. The phone was never rooted or with a different ROM than the officials,. so I honestly have no idea why it keeps rebooting and doing stuff like that. It's on the latest available Android firmware -- 4.1.2.
What can I do to fix it?
Clean battery contacts with isopropyl alcohol, then try replace battery, then replace USB board/port - which is a relatively easy fix to do yourself for around 10 bucks (if you pay someone else to do it, labour could easily take this up to $70/80 or even more depending on labour costs in your country). If you decide to do this, KeithRoss39 has a guide in the General section (search for 'replacing USB charger board') that has all the info you need to get it done.
The other thing you could try before replacing the USB board is to flash stock firmware manually with Odin/in download mode (assuming you haven't already done this/the updates you've done up until now have been via Kies).
If I had to bet money though. I'd be wagering the battery (particularly if it's getting on age-wise) or the USB board (which is a common fault with Samsung phones).
Seriously, that is the only thing to do? I mean, it was okay yesterday and this suddenly hapenned... How can I be sure that it's from the USB Charger Board? And also, the phone won't reboot while I'm using it, but as soon as I lock it and wait a while, it reboots. I just tried wiping the phone again, and it even does that on the setup screen at the beginning... :crying:
Okay, I flashed a stock rom with Odin, as suggested, but it's doing the same thing... Now it's even worse! When I push the lock button when the phone is on, the phone freezes immediately and you can hear the lock sound looping over and over and over again. I have to hold the lock/power button for the phone to reboot... but it does that every time. Even when I don't press the lock/power button, only leave it to lock on its own, it does it again. It charges the battery just fine, I recharged it last night and it has 100% baterry... what could this be?

Is there still hope for this phone?

The phone was rooted (stock ROM) and it worked fine. Than a factory reset was done. It was stuck downloading something for several hours without any progress than the battery was pulled out in the middle of this process. Now the phone only has two states. If I turn it on after I pull out the battery for some time and put it back in I get this screen: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/667756/Forums/20160704_135510.jpg . Even if I turn off the phone via power button it turns back on and goes to the exact same screen. It won't turn off until the battery is pulled out for some time. If the phone is plugged on charger or PC this is the screen that appears and doesn't go away even if the cable is than unplugged: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/667756/Forums/20160704_104210.jpg . It will stay on until the battery is pulled out. If I pull out the battery just for a few seconds and put it back in the exact same screen appears. Oh, yes, and it's frozen, the icon on the battery is not moving, ever, not even when it's first plugged on the charger. I can't get into download or soft reset mode because no button combination works. Nothing happens. Any hope or idea what to do here?

First go through the re-partition thread of xda forum. Then try with 1GB pit file and trim supported kernel in odin and flash! Keep your finger crossed! I got success this way...
In order to try your suggestion, the OP has to be able to get into download mode.....and he's already said he can't.
Even if download mode *was* available, flashing any type of pit whether modified or stock, should be treated as an absolute last resort. Any flashing carries a risk, but only a pit flash will totally and permanently kill your device if it goes wrong.
To the OP......
buy a USB JIG from somewhere like ebay.
They cost pocket change and will force your phone into download mode.....no button combination necessary.
Then try flashing a firmware to your device.....Sammobile or Samsung-updates are the best places to try......
But whatever you do, leave the pit flashing alone.......For now.

Phone wont turn on

Hello,
Last night, i plugged my phone into the charger, woke up, phone was off, tried turning it on but didn't respond.
Anyone else has experienced anything like this?
Things i tried:
took out the battery, waited for a while and tried to turn it on.(nothing)
hold volume down key and press the power button.(nothing)
hold volume up key and press the power button(nothing)
Phone does not respond to anything. does not even vibrate.
LED does not blink when plugged to charger.
nothing.
If you pull out the battery, then put it in again and connect the phone to the power plug does it turn on? In thst case could be just the power button not working.
My god, it happened the same to me on Monday, yesterday. Went to sleep, put phone to charge, woke up in the morning, phone is turned off. Also bought a new original battery couple of months ago. Never had a problem really. I took it to official care service and they diagnosed one of the processors on the motherboard has failed.
Ofcourse them being them "they cannot fix this without replacing motherboard" meaning losing all the data.
Can anyone please advise what to do? I am willing to pay for the information or the work if you can do it. I am picking up the phone in two days and will try to do something myself. Care service provider is a total let down. In 2020 they say they cannot access internal memory. I cannot believe this.
By the way, did the OP get any info or resolution yet?

Mine it does not. What does happen, when I plug it in computer I hear the sounds a device has been connected but nothing happends, phone is not seen as charging or anything.
If you are able to reach at least the recovery, you can back up the memory and then replace the motherboard.
By the way, do you have any recovery installed?
How is the phone recognized by the pc? Try to look in the device manager, if you are using windows, to see which driver is loaded when you connect the G5.

Thank you for a quick response. Unfortunately after reconnecting the phone to notebook I only hear the sound "that sth is attached - win10", after opening the device manager nothing new is shown in the "usb section". In addition I also cannot find any past backups I have done of the phone so that option is out.
I did find these two firms 1) securedatarecovery and 2) r3datarecovery. I have sent an enquiry with description of my situation asking if they can do an image copy of the internal memory to another phone or at least access the data and waiting for their reply. Do you maybe have any experience with them and knowing if they are any good?
Unfortunately I have never tried a similar recovery. Usually the phone just gets stuck into bootloop or fastboot, but in the worst case, it is locked on a screen with the processor's name. For both these options there are guides on XDA. But for your case, i have no idea on how to proceed.
When you said there is nothing in usb section, you mean on the icon on down on right of the screen for ejecting the pendrives or you mean the device manager in the control panel?
Talking about recoveries, I didn't mean shops that repair phones, but a partition on the phone that can be used to reboot the phone in a simple operating system if android stops working. If you have never installed TWRP or OrangeFox, you have the stock recovery on your phone, that just erases everything and restores the phone to the original state.

Thanks again for reply. I meant in the device manager. I have never installed mentioned program, I did use LG default app for making backups in windows but those are too old to be relevant.
I found info online where people swtich emmc chip to another motherboard and just turn on the phone or use a direct chip reader to access data in explorer view through specific programs. Do you have maybe any info of that? Thanks again for all the answers so far.
In theory, that should be possible, but it would require very good soldering skills and tools. I have no idea of the exact procedure in this case.

I9100T bricked? Can't seem to do anything

I got this old phone out of the cupboard because I needed some old photos from iT, and figured I'd better backup before it died. So I turned it on, the phone crashed and started boot looping. Great. I try to enter recovery and it won't work, only thing that works is download mode.
So I do some reading and see that reflashing the stock firmware might work, so I try that in Odin and it just hangs on factoryfs for an hour. So I disconnect and try again 10 times with different computers, cables and ports. Also tried alternative firmware. Same result each time
So now I find info on installing twrp and backing up the needed user data from there.
So I install hemidall and it recognises the phone, sweet. I find an isorec boot.img and a twrp recovery image bang them in and hemidall starts. I think I'm onto a winner.
But Noooo, hemidall says beginning session, sits there for maybe 20 seconds then moves to releasing device interface.
Any idea what else I can try? I must have spent 12 hours doing this. I just need the photos I could care less about the phone.
Thanks
Are you sure you have a fully operational battery?
You know, sometimes the battery can be fully charged, but still cause resets.
Do you see a charging animation on the screen when connected to the charger?

Hi Thanks for the reply.
The battery seems okay, but its not charging in the phone currently, when i plug it in it comes up with this weird like grey frozen charging logo. Ive been charging it externally to make sure it keeps a decent charge during all these flashes. But as i can't enter any kind of environment the only way i know the batterys charge is using a multimeter.
Also wanted to add, the phone didnt have adb enabled so thats off the table. I also dont even know what firmware version it was running. all these things seem to be working against me.
Since I tried to use odin to upgrade the firmware i dont even get a boot logo or it trying to boot anymore, i get the yelllow triangle with phone and pc logo, so im assuming the original firmware is toast. just need some way to reinstall the firmware, or install twrp and grab a backup, then this thing is going in the bin because its ruined my last 24 hours.
Thanks again
If you don't want to waste time, and you have the money, then turn to a local service that has a data recovery service using JTAG. Usually you pay when it is possible to recover the data. However, if the NAND memory has damage, this could be a problem.
