[Q] Question about the New ICS 4.0.3 I9100XXLPH - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys
I just saw I9100XXLPH 4.0.3 on samfimreware ..
did any one tried it and please tell us what are the changes and fixes

I doubt there is any significant changes. Samsung still keeps introducing bugs and bloatware.

I see in your signature that you are using 2.3.6 and also ICS ..
if so what is the most recent and stable version you could recommend to me in both
2.3.6 and ICS 4.0.3 and of course not the stock ones I love custom ROMs

Go for 2.3.6 GB as that is more stable than any ICS out there at the moment. If you go to CM9 you will find it is stable enough to use as a daily driver but you have a few minor details missing. Like video recording, usb storage (or mount storage something like that) youtube not working and any flash player not working properly as they need kernel sources for that.
So flash a 2.3.6 rom flash the new ICS theme and your good to go

Yeah im on LPB and i get instabilities everyday, though not to a serious extent. I would still recommend using the gingerbread ROMs for now until the official final versions of the ICS ROMs are out in march. Less than a month more. Just bear with it!

There is already a couple of quite detailed threads on this subject in general.

I guess you guys are right 2.3.6 is far more stable ..
I have tried ICS 4.0.3 before and it is full of bugs from time to time force close most of apps and get battery life shorter and shorter
one more thing to ask is the CPU speed of S2 increases due to usage because I installed android assistant and got it current speed as 800mhz is this normal ..
or I have to increase it manually ?

ive heard resurrection rom is pretty stable, havent tried it since LP6 and back then the battery overheated and it lasted nothing. Then i tried wanamlite on LPB and didnt quite work for me so i went on wanamlite LP6 v7.7 and its pretty stable but still had couple of bugs and fc's. im feeling tempted to try LPH and i will do it tomorrow
as for GB 2.3.6 stock worked great for me but missed the ICS interface, on GB ive heard checkrom v4 is pretty damn god, didnt work for me due to battery but oh well i didnt quite tweak stuff to make it go longer
as for you frequency question if you want to undervolt it you need a kernel that allows you do to so and then use the setcpu app on market, it should be on 1.2ghz on stock. To verify your frequency i suggest using cpuspy app on market so you can verify the same
hope it helps you mate
cheers

Could give me link the most stable 2.3.6

If you're referring to the above link then its probably neither, looks like a stock ROM to me.
Btw, it helps to quote posts in your replies.

sorry mate I'm new here ..

since I9100XXLPB touchwiz is going worst, i switch to nova launcher which run flawlessly.
- APN configuration are not lost
- samsung software update bug going since LP2 have been removed
- little improvment in battery life
- still a few FC but going better and better, perfectly usable for every life
- i have a few bug with winamp since I9100XXLP2
- don't now if it's linked to rom or if i made something, but since LPB i can't install any apps on SD card
- 3G is better, seem easier to find connection

I tried both LPB and LPH ICS roms. The current ICS roms are good and constantly getting better, but are a still a little too buggy for me. One thing's for sure, I had constant wifi disconnects using the lph modem. In the end I went back to KL1 modem which works flawlessly for me.

[Q] How to restore Stock ROM

I got my SII a few month back, and ever since I've tried quite a few custom ROMs. Due to some issues etc I'd like to do a complete wipe and restore the latest Samsung ROM (while maintaining my root access) - any idea how I do this?
Can I do it via CWM (preferred), Odin or must I use Kies?
Many thanks!
Follow this guide
It also has all the download links in the thread.
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .
Much appreciated. Any idea how I can pick the correct firmware though? I guess it's not just a matter of picking the latest one?

Great, thanks. Worked like a charm. Replaced the kernel with CFs modded KK5 version and am enjoying a force-close-free experience. Now if I could just have a vanilla ICS version, I would be very happy. Say what you will about Apple, but their iOS upgrades rock.

ICS is coming, we have roms, but they are not stable or recomended. If you want vanilla ICS you will want to follow the development of CM9, as samsungs ICS roms will have touchwizz allover them.
Apples updates are nice, thats what happens when you do the hardware and the software, just like the Nexus series

True, but tbh I just went back to stock from the final CM7 version as I found it too buggy (force close issues etc). Perhaps CM9 will be better and I look forward to its release. With the official Samsung ICS release, can't you actually disable TouchWizz? I assumed it's just a launcher on top of vanilla ICS and that you can disable / remove it.

What samsung have done to make and run touchwizz on the top pure android it's more complicated and deeper which you could simply disable it. now i'm using stock firmware with siyah kernel but after watching some videos on youtube and comparing leaked realeses of touchwizz and cm9 I have no doubt to imigrate to cm9
if u wanna get back to stock, odin is ur choice!

Yeah, I figure it goes under the hood a bit I look forward to testing the stable release as soon as that's out - guess they need to wait for the final Samsung kernel so it may be a while.

[Q] ICS Upgrade Advice for GTi9100

Hi Guys,
I want to flash my GTI9100 with ICS. I have looked around but couldn't find the answer. Perhaps I am being over cautious but I need my device as a daily tool.
My question is this;
I am trying to figure out which ICS version that will upgrade me with the least issues based on the my Samsung GTI9100 current configuration (see attachment). Or do I need to go back to total stock config prior to going to ICS?
Any other direction/advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. As in I should just wait for a very solid upgrade.
Thank a lot
until Samsung release an official ROM, there isn't a "safe for daily use" install of ICS for the SGS2
agree with the poster above. wait when there is an official release then update. or wait when the kernel sources are released and then when kernel devs and codeworkx get their hands on the new stuff then i would say go ahead..
That is what i intend to do anyway
Thanks guys, sounds like very good advice. But man it looks sooo sweet
The latest leaked Samsung ROM can be used as a daily ROM. I have been using it for two days now, no FC, no crash whatsoever. Added Nova launcher and I'm happy with that.

Same here, using Ressurection-7.4
Using Westcrip's latest 8.1 rom as a daily rom. No problems at all and ICS is a must for SGS 2. You must try it!! You will not be disapointed mate! And you will never go back to Gingerbread after that

You're fine where you are. Just flash the ICS rom via recovery after backing up everything. Read up on more things beforehand if you have to ask questions like this. Galaxy S devices are almost brick proof with odin but you never know.
I tried out latest ICS for a day. It's stable for a daily rom. Just had a couple of minor freezes and touch sensitivity wasn't as good as gingerbread but if you want to try I recommend it.
I suggestbto try out diffrent ics roms. I'm running cm9, it's pretty stable, few bugs but looks better than any other rom.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Cm9 is good and well worth a look but the devs are at the mercy of Samsung releasing source code so it's not as complete as LP6.
I do like lp6 as a daily but only after stabilising it. Freezing apps, pinning down battery drain and fixing gps etc.
After you do that it's business as usual. And for the better quality Bluetooth sound alone it's worth it to me.
I installed the 3 file Odin version which is a wipe. The cfrooted with lp6 cfroot kernel.
There are also odexed and deodexed versions to flash. Just search a page or two and you'll find them.
To change look is too easy. If you like cm9 but want most things working just theme lp6 and it's pretty similar in appearance.
Just make backups via CWM and you can bounce between all the firmware, GB, CM9, LP6 etc.
Have fun.

[Q] [help]Resurrection Remix ics Rom v9.1

Hi forumer,
I just swipe to this ROM but i found my phone shutdown itself (so far 1 times),my video recording cannot zoom and my bluetooth not working (cannot pair with my laptop and headset, my phone cannot discover them and they also cannot discover my phone, already turn on visible on my phone)
Anyone can help?i would like to post at the westcrip's thread, but my point not enough
well the ics is still in beta stage till samsung launches new official firmware ...
i have tryed a lot of ICS roms, but i'm stil on GB because i need a stable phone for daily use.
I had this problem you just need to wipe the caches partition and dalvic. Then fix permissions.

i did a few ICS roms as well but went back to GB, am now on >> PhonandroidRom v1.0- Siyah Kernel -Based MIUI. Pretty stable for me...
this is completely unrelated and i'm an absolute nooblet but I just need a quick answer. I have this rom on my phone but I want to unroot and go back to stock. Am I right in thinking I can just flash a stock samsung gingerbread rom onto the device just using odin and it will unroot it and be fine? Just want to check before I steam ahead and because this is an ICS rom.
Thanks guys.

Yes, you may need to go back to a suitable kernel also. Using Odin should be very easy.
hello
I tried all the roms remis since 8.5
i find remix 9.4 verry good .the main problem is about chainfire kernel which has to be more developped
for ICS roms, I don't find kernels like Siyah or nymphetamine which are good with GB
now we must wait a new version of XXLPH rom
I tried yesterday Remix 9.5 but too much bugs with CWM and I went back to R 9.4
I tried others roms than Remix (omega,Criskelo,CM9,Foxhound) ,I found Foxhound 0.3 good but still more buggy than R9.4 ( cannot synchronize contacts with outlook)
br46
SGS2 with remix 9.4
Well, not only the chainfire kernel has to be more developed, but also all the custom ones...
i especially miss a perfect working siyah and neak one on ics!
hoping the devs are on it already! ^^
Try :Resurrection Remix ics v1.0, it should be out any moment now.....

[Q] Questions regarding root and MIUI install

Hi. I have decided to upgrade my samsung galaxy s2 with miui. Since this is my first time flashing an android device I have a couple of questions.
Firstly, is there a reason why I shouldnt install miui on my phone aside from the void warrancy?
#do I get the warrancy back if I unroot and unflash before I take my device to the service?
Next, i have read that i need to root the device first, before i can install miui. Is that true?
#which kernel should I use for that?
I have heard that siyahkernel Is the best. But on the xda thread it says it isnt compatible with any ICS roms. Will it work with miui 4? Is this thread a root at all? I can only assume it is because it has cpu/gpu oc/uc and ov options...
Also, cfroot Has a big and detailed thread. But this one does not support rom manager. I'd need to use cwm for flashing. Is this a problem?
So with which kernel do I go?
No, use a jig too.
Use Cfroot.
What? You don't need rom manager, not sure what you're getting at here.
I'd recommend using a gingerbread version of miui as it's your first time. Gb is stable, ics isn't 100% there yet.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Good choice going with miui, however I wouldn't use the ics versions at the moment as they are buggy. I would personally recommend wiui latest gingerbread version as it is stable as hell and works with siyah.

Thanks for the reply. But:
Whats a jih?
MIUI install guide (miuiandroid(dot)com/community/threads/how-to-update-upgrade-miui.15424/) says to use ROM manager. But I suppose cwm does the same thing.
I've read somewhere that the last sgs2 miui version is based on official 4.0.3 samsung files. Shouldn't that mean that there are no bugs aside from the ones which are also found on samsung update channels?
I really mainly want miui because of ics, and chrome browser. I have no interest in voiding my warrancy so I can stay on gingerbread. The better UI simply isn't worth it. So you suggest I wait for official samsung updates? (I do want the better UI...)
Thanks for the reply!
Cheers
No, miui ics introduces several bugs of its own despite being based on samsung rom.

A jig resets your "Custom binary counter", the thing that counts how many times you've flashed a rom/kernel/whatever. Samsung will see its above 0 and may, or may not, said that your warranty is still void.
If you're really that desperate for ics, go for it. Just make a Nandroid backup with CWM incase you don't like it.
No, it's still buggy, but it is still really good & can be used as a daily rom, I would think.

I wouldn't say that I am desperate for ics, but I am pretty sure I will install miui at one time anway. I don't like the cartoonish icons of touchwiz. The question I think right now is, whether I install ICS right now, or should I wait for ICS to become availabe on KIES and install miui later. (I suppose they'll fix the remaining bugs than)
Also, does anyone suggest a different rom than miui, which is better for some reason? I like eyecandy, but I do want performace as well.
Thanks for your answers.

Edit:
If I do upgrade to ics and miui. All I have to do is root it with cfroot and use cwm to do a nandroid backup, and than use cwm to install miui 2.3.16?

Fair enough.
The thread title does however confuse me:
MIUI ROM 2.3.9 Releases [GB] & [ICS ENGLISH FULL]
miuiandroid(dot)com/community/threads/miui-rom-2-3-9-releases-gb-ics-english-full.15662/
So miui 2.3.9 for sgs2 is gb based. If i understand correctly than I have to download from this thread. But isn't installing old versions dumb? Or is 2.3.16 a major jump which introduces new bugs?
Edit:
Okay as far as I understand 2.3.9 is GB and 2.3.16 is ICS. 2.3.9 works very good while 2.3.16 is laggy.
So to get this straight:
I want to install miui 2.3.9-- The steps are:
update to latest version. (i have dukg2 i'll go to kj3)
root with cfroot
backup with nandroid
system wipe, galvik wipe, cache wipe
install miui rom with cwm
???
This is it?
Edit2:
Is there a way to store my defender savegame?
Edit3:
I have read that siyah kernel is very fast. How do i install that kernel?
Do I do all the steps liste above, and than when I am done installing miui install siyah kernel?
Turns out siyah has NTFS usb OTG feature. I now really want siyah.

Before i got samsung galaxy s2 I had a nokia 5800 for 3 years. It was like switching from a sedan to formula 1. I am still so impressed by the power of SGS2 that some minor performance improovements aren't important. Not yet at least...
Thus I am looking for eyecandy (since i can't get ICS and chrome just yet). Which as I've hear MIUI is best at.
Besides, there's no link in your sig. Otherwise i'd love to take a look at that rom. What does miui lack at btw?

Look in xda sgs2 forum is 20 normals rom and 2 miui, you can change what kernel you want, what theme you want, coz almost all is compatible each others. For miui you need special kernel, special theme, etc. Don`t wasting you time using miui

Big banner that says "SlimROM by krinyo75"... not visible on xda's app. Skinny, fast, monochrome - the way I like it (yes, I tried BAT)
What does miui lack:
- installed adfree, still got many ads.
- sammy's stock browser is so much better than MIUI's
- camera is nowhere near good enough
- flaky GPS
- laggy music player (tried it first on my SGS waybackwhen, still no better)
- limited kernel choice
- all phone numbers hyphenated after 3 digits
- don't want workarounds for an app drawer - I want an app drawer, period
Sure some of these sound petty, but horses for courses... since MIUI v4 will be based on Samsung's framework and kernel sources are now released, I'll try it again when it's done.
One thing I love about MIUI - only non-3rd party contacts app I've seen with a list view - no photos, no stupid icon next to contact name.

I'd have to say Neutrino 2.6.
It has great batterly life and is super snappy.
It also has different kernels depending on your preference of battery, balanced, or power.
The nightly CNAs. If you dont need the camera. Once that is worked out, everybody will switch to ICS
I've had an Atrix since last October and rooted within days since I got it. I've tried Darkside (don't quite remember which version as it was months ago). then I flashed Aura 1.2.2.2, which I don't think is being further developed, but was very happy with it. Very fast and stable. Then came Neutrino around. Hats off to Notorious for his effort, the rom is superfast and absolutely rid of anything non essential. I am looking forward to see CM9 based version of this rom. since before Xmas I am on CM9 by Jokersax. As with all CM9 roms the stock camera doesn't work, but some 3rd party camera apps do, which is good enough for me. I if you do not use your camera too often try ICS.

Read this post…this is a guide for new atrix users…it has everything from rooting and unlocking version 4.5.91 to links for different roms. Highly recommended!
I like the Neutrino 2.6EE, it is very stable as it's based on the CM7 RC1. I tried CM9 roms love them but, they still have a few bugs like the video playback on some websites and I strangely experience slow web browser speeds (but the battery life was great ) will surely flash one of the cm9 roms when more "stable" versions come out.
I was a huge fan of the Neutrino ROMS but ever since going to turl's ICS, its far too nice to go back to GB. All apps are so much more pleasant to use and scrolling in ICS roms is far smoother than any GB roms, matching iphone scrolling smoothness. Everything from maps to gmail and sms is so much better not to mention the browser which is a huge improvement in terms of speed, usability and smoothness (tip enable the side swip menu options in the labs section of settings). turls latest build has camera working as well so the only thing which i find borked in my day to day use is the camcorder.
+1 what kickassy said. I was previously on Neutrino 2.6, i think it's the best of the GB roms.

Use the .37 baseband as your phone is an AT&T model and use any ROM and kernel you'd like.
Edit: I use turl's latest CM9. Exept for a few games (Temple Run and MC3) not working, it is the best ROM I have used.

This depends on the user. Everyone likes different things - you'll have to experiment for yourself... A ROM that a thousand people love, you may hate.... and vice versa... Noone can tell you what the best ROM is for you. Play around and find one you like.
