[Q] Should I upgrade to ICS or stay with GB? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I got my new TP yesterday and I'm really debating given the problems that people have had after upgrading their TP to ICS whether I should upgrade my TP.
Any thoughts?

Fail!

The Transformer Prime never had Gingerbread.

Lol if your talking about honeycomb then yes you should upgrade to ICS much much better than honeycomb

I'd change the title of the topic if I were you. It will be confusing to some.

Got mine on Monday. Updated to ICS immediately. It's great. ICS is much better than honeycomb.

I've been going back and forth between HC and ICS. I do like ICS better but hate that I cant play some of my old games (which werent really meant for the prime in the first place) but still. I think the best part of ICS is the optimization. Apps are much smoother. Specially the browser. Home screen transition I think its on par and same with app drawer.

ICS release, it's mean Honeycomb is over

ICS source already released on market by Google, it's mean Honeycomb is over ?
ICS design running both on mobile phone and Tablet, who's going to use Honeycomb on tablet anymore ?
Since honeycomb source was never released, the only people running it would be tablets that haven't gotten the update, ergo honeycomb will be over once everyone picks up an update

I had an Asus Transformer on honeycomb, I sold it once CM7 and WebOS could dual boot on the TouchPad.
Honeycomb wasn't as good as WebOS OR CM7 in my opinion....
CM7 is still very buggy and doesnt hav enough tablet optimization
lets patiently wait for ICS

I did the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago. I really didn't like honeycomb at all. I really hope ICS is better. I am going to be truly disappointed if it is a lot like honeycomb. I guess I will be one of the few with Gingerbread on an Evo3D a year from now. Hopefully HTC can get the ugliness gone with Sense.

Honeycomb Source was released because it had to be released due to Open Source Licensing. (GPL & LGPL)
Even thought the development of Honeycomb has pretty much dead ended with ICS source being dropped, to remain in compliance they had to release it.
The only reason they didn't, as I understand it, is it still being a bit buggy and the fear of people trying to port it to phones resulting in mass hysteria.

Why do you guys threat Honeycomb and CM7 as completely different OS? 3.0 is way better than 2.3, its better optimized, runs more smoothly, has more features. CM7 is alpha, its ****, not better than Honeycomb 3.0. It would be cool if someone manage to port honeycomb into our touchpads until CM teams decides to make a ICS port which they have said will take 2 months.

the CM are too busy playing BF3 to care about making an alpha 3 or anything for our cheap tablets, quiet honestly I am happy with webOS until there is an ICS port. Sure vanilla webOS sucks major ass but after installing a lot of patches, its pretty good. CM7 alpha on the other hand its not better than webOS. If you guys want a cheap tablet for media, buy that India 50 dollar tablet that actually can play youtube content smoothly

Super Duper Solid ICS rom anyone??

Not to knock the current ICS offerings! Official Rezound ICS seems to be a while away so maybe this thing can quell us fiends...

The ICS Roms available now are pretty damn good. Running Nils' Business ICS Sense and it's a beastin rom!
I agree with Tech9. The current selection of ICS roms are very very well done. I am currently running JoelZ redefined rom and its about as perfect as you can get for a DD from a leak. Ive used Nils Business ICS as well and hes also done a great job with this rom.

[Q] ICS?

I know we don't have any ICS kernel sources yet but do you think we will get ICS before this August?
I thought I read somewhere that we were getting it in the next month or two. I would assume we would have a good working ICS port at the least in the next month or two. Can't speak for the devs here, but I thought that's what we were looking at. As for when ATT will push it out, that could be forever...I hate how long they take, but oh well.

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).
Wow. Use the sticky thread.

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

I love and appreciate all the work that the Devs have done for our phone, but if we don't get ICS soon I will be leaving this phone. A lot of my friends have phones with ICS roms and it is such a improvement over GB. I don't understand how one and two year old phones have ICS and Samsung won't allow us to have it. It is ridiculous.

What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

Wow, ICS has barely been out.
I know that there has been threads about Jelly Bean, but I am not sure if I had read that ASUS confirmed that it would be Jelly Bean.
Does this mean Google and Asus maybe working on a Nexus tablet, since asus has made this announcement?
Hopefully with the new wave of tablets from Asus we can still use the TF201 dock with them. If so I wouldnt mind sticking with Asus tabs...especially if they ever make one that works as advertised....lol

Android 5 will be released about a year after Android 4, which was released about a year after Android 2.3. Honeycomb was an interim release. I'm not sure why everyone is so bent out of shape about this--things are moving along pretty much according to schedule.
Just because someone confirmed Jelly Bean as the name for Android 5 doesn't mean it's coming out anytime soon... I'd say, it'll be October at the earliest, although like ICS it might be previewed over the summer.

ICS delayed told Q2!!

Read this on a couple of tech sites. Very disappointed. I was under the impression that the wait for ICS wasn't gonna be that long. That was a big factor in getting the note. Would have held out for a quad core with ICS already on it if I knew it was gonna be this long. I love my note and it's sad that att's flagship android device doesn't have the latest version of android. Plus I think ics will smooth out alot of the lagginess owners have been reporting.

What? Possibly in issolated cases or on crappy ROMs, but that is one hell of an arogant blanket statement to make on an OS that is just rolling out onto handsets the past couple months. I saw vast improvements with it in many aspects, to include battery.

^^This guys got a point. I will defend ICS tooth and nail, but you will rarely find me belly aching about it being on the note. I absolutely want it, but I didn't buy a phone with it already on it. I do expect ATT/Samsung to deliver it to us, but don't think we'll see it untill fall. Anything sooner will be a great surprise, anything later and I'll start complaining. If all I wanted was ICS then I would have kept my Vibrant.
Time to DIY
I saw that this morning and welp... time to flash a custom ROM -_-
I was holding off waiting for the official to get here 'later this month'. I am disappoint. Oh well... Its not hard to root anyway.
Waiting for the next o.s. update for your smartphone is a never ending game and hasn't changed.
It's not real smart to buy something HOPING it will get the next update sooner rather than later. WIth smartphones, you'll always be disappointed .
I'm running ICS on another device I have and it's not that big of a deal. I'd certainly like it on my Note but it's not something I'm waiting for with every breath.
totally untrusted source. there is no samsung norway official page+samsung norway does not speak english!! anyways the youtube video interview, that samsung executive guy who was answering questions, where it says comments, it was written that the att note will be getting the update in may
doesn't Q2 start in like 2 weeks?
So tired of the *****ing and crying over ics go and take your note back and get the nexus if you want ics so bad I'm am completely happy with my note
