As anyone sent their touchpads back to repair under warranty to HP regarding the cracks on the speakers? Thanx

Me too, although I run out of superglue, so I ended up using two part epoxy glue, painted it with a black permanent marker. Now there is a slight bulge where the glue sits, but such things don't bother me.. And it feels strong and stiff now, unlike the other side speaker cover where it flexes, will wait for it to crack and use the same procedure too
V
I would return it if HP didn't reset my touchpad.
Or even turn it on, for that matter.
I used superglue and it burnt the plastic, and 2 weeks later the crack started moving again.
Will they replace the whole back cover or just glue it back?
Hello !
If I have CM9 on my touchpad, Will they repair this or not ?

Ugh. It's happened to mine now. I got a crack running up the back from the USB port.
Not even sure when it happened, I just noticed it today.

I would imagine if I send this in, they'd just replace it with some refurbished unit (so about the question of CM9 being installed, I'm sure you'll get something back with stock webOS). And I'm a bit worried I might get something with a screen defect or something else considering they don't make the units anymore and probably don't have much left, I'd think all the good stuff has probably been sold by now.
Hmmm... I only paid $150. I might just live with it and hope it doesn't spread.
Oh dang. I just found a second crack from my speaker to bezel. Ugh, this damn this is come part suddenly. Haha, geez. Guess I got what I paid for.

I spoke to webOS support yesterday, the live chat is US only apparently they gave me this number to ring 020 7660 0950. Not open again until Monday though so not been able to speak to these (Same issue :/ Glad I didn't pay the original retail price! You need your serial number handy )
I've had 2 32gbs that both developed speaker cracks. It's a defect that will likely appear again in any refurbished units that get sent back from a repair. I have a nice carbon skin on my touchpad which seems to keep the cracks at bay. If they get worse ill use some good epoxy.

I was told by HP Tech Support that they replace the entire backing with a new, improved one.

you will need to use ACMUinstaller to take Android completely off (this takes a few minutes). Then run in WebOs, run a complete clean and uninstall (this takes a bit over an hour).
Time from repair to back in your hands
Well, today I found out the 7 - 10 business days begins they day they RECEIVE your TP in the repair center.
This really sucks. All three reps, including a supervisor, expressed it was a turn around time of 7 - 10 days from the date you send your TP in...I am quite upset. I told them I use my device for work. Had I known this to be the truth, I would have waited to send mine in.
Can anyone verify that after sending in your TP, you get the SAME TP back? Like an above posted stated, I really don't want to risk getting a refurb with broken screen etc.
Btw I've got cracks EVERYWHERE; USB port/headphone jack/both speakers. Ugh.
I'd even replace the backing myself if I knew where to get one.
Well, mine is supposedly on its way back to me. I rec'd an email Friday late morning that it is being shipped back to me. I chatted with tech support and was told that mine was repaired. You just have to let them know you want yours returned to you. I even included a note!
I should be getting it Monday morning and I will confirm if it is mine and that the repair was actually done.
oh and UPS does not have much information on their website, but if you call, they have the shipping info.
I have the same problem. Is it OK to send it back with Android installed or do we have to remove it?

Yes, you need to remove Android with ACMEUinstaller.
When you call, specify you want your original unit repaired and sent back to you. I also left a note inside the box.
I received my touchpad about 30min ago.
It is just beautiful. Looks brand new. AND I got my original back, not a refurb.

Hi Guys,
I have a 101 16GB with a broken screen. Archos no longer repair this as it is out of warranty.
Can someone help, is there any reason why I couldn't replace the screen and digitizer myself?
Does any know where to purchase screens for the 101? I have checked ebay and there is one but that doesn't come with a Digitizer.
or can some suggest where could replace it for me?
Thanks

Yeah, apparently Archos don't cover hardware issues unless it's an issue with defective hardware.
I broke my screen too. I had a good look around for new screen and digitizer but couldn't find any. In fact, I reckon the one that you found on ebay was made for the (very similar) 10.2" laptop. I haven't checked in a while so I could be wrong, but that was all that I could find.
I assume when you say Archos won't repair it, you mean they won't repair it for free?
I ended up having to send mine back to Archos for repair and it cost €123 altogether. It also took close to 2 months to get back to me. Just got it back there on the 30th of December.
No Archos won't repair it full stop. The start of the week it broke they had stopped repairing out of warranty and because this is not warranty they will not repair. I told them I was willing to pay. Made no difference.
Wow, really? Sorry to hear that. It does beg the question though... How many devices had broken screens repaired before they pulled the plug?
Unfortunately, I think it's a bit too early for a 3rd party to fix the device, it just hasn't been out long enough for the parts to be manufactured yet. But it's surely only a matter of time.
Note: I was actually sent back a new device. Different serial number. Maybe they just don't have the stock to send out replacement devices. We all know the difficulty they are having keeping up with demand (which in itself is a bit ridiculous but that's another story).
I'm in Ireland by the way.
I'm in Ireland also, what was wrong with yours? if it was a cracked screen when did you send it back?
Yep, cracked screen. I put the charger in with the device in my bag and it must have gotten a pretty bad bang but when I took it out the screen was cracked.
I got my device at the start of November. The 5th I think. It broke on the 10th (5!! days after I had it

I contacted, 130 pounds + 14 pound shipping = $233 canadian. I can buy a brand new 101 for 260 right from Archos..... can you say " giving it to us up the hoop"........Pass!!
My wife just dropped hers and the digitizer is shattered - the screen works fine, still boots and displays everything. Touch input is non-responsive, however.
Looking around I'm finding out that it's a wash. Can't even buy aftermarket parts to fix it myself. What a ****ing shame.

Oh awesome! I didn't even think about that!
So I just have to plug it a mouse and keyboard into the usb slot and the digitizer will un-crack itself or is there, like, a dance that goes along with this?

No, but then at least you can use it atm.

Similar to the good old 'post your homescreen' thread, this is the place to show off your pretty Newton Rings.
A small description how you achieved the rings for the other users would be great (left it upside down, used original case, exposed to room temperature etc.).

They will have to replace it until it doesn't have the rings or refund your money, so what's the problem? ? Mine doesn't have the rings,
So there must be plenty that don't, to use to replace the bad ones.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 10.1
Of course they will have to and they are just replacing mine.
The problem is that I wanted to see other affected screens but you have something against it.
Do you work for Samsung?
out of curiosity have people been able to take them back months after purchase? I got mine in July it had the ring a day or so later, took it back, got another, and just yesterday i noticed i had the rings when slightly pressing on it, and now i'm guessing it's only a matter of time before it shows up....naturally i do not have a receipt any longer and not sure i'll be able to return it to best buy without it or because it's been so long???

Funny thread, lol. Can see some people have it worse than mine. I'm in the uk with a us model too. I know there's a few threads about the problem but I am amazed and somewhat comforted by how many people have the issue. I am using the Samsung book cover which could be making this worse.
Took mine back to Curry's, the manager said all models had it, even their display model. (I had the 16GB black model, and got a refund.)
Then ordered the 32GB white model, and so far no newton rings, I will keep getting replacements if it manifests again though, for something this expensive, it's only logical to expect something perfect and free of fault. Cosmetic or not.
there seems to be an inherent manufacturing defect in the screen of the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, in that it develops an oily slick / newton rings( just google newton rings oil slick galaxy tabs and you will see the extent of the defect ) ,when the tablet has been used for approximately a week , this does not affect all the tablets but around 45-60 pct. are affected , I have written to Samsung uk asking for a change under warranty , they have refused saying that because I bought the tablet overseas they cannot repair it .
I may understand some of that , if it was a warranty claim , however as a manufacturing defect this becomes too much ! , I am NOW trying to assemble as many people as possible to mount a legal case against Samsung uk , as they are refusing to repair any tablet that was bought outside their territory and they have known about that defect for a while now
if anyone is interested please let me know and I will send you my pm
Thks
it started cracking (from what i noticed) like, last week
yesterday, it's totally broken off
anyone else have a DIY fix? superglue i'm thinking
****sux because i had the touchpad inside the official case day 1 AND it doesnt get moved around often nor does it see heavy usage
i have a theory that the case actually helps increase the chances of the cracks because any vibration/pressure is transmitted somewhat equally around the touchpad so even if the speaker side was not touched, any other force small or big goes speaker side and will eventually crack
Why don't u contact HP Support? They will replace the case!
I have the same problem that you are having. I have my touchpad for about a week or so and it cracked between both speakers it really sucks. So what I did was used super glue to fix the problem it might not look the best it works for now. Its nice to find out that its just not me having these problems but it really sucks.
Sent from my GT-i9100 using xda premium
ya I know about the customer support replace, just wanted to get opinions on superglue approach before then because I'm sorta scared that my touchpad will get replace with a diff one or the screen gets scratched etc
if the super glue works I'll just do that
Don't do the superglue, I really regret doing it myself, it's not clear and is very ugly, i need to find a way to get it off before i can send it in.
I'm thinking of getting mine repaired and then getting it wrapped in ghost armor.
The armor works great...

I didnt have "Cracks" but I have the ripple effect on the small plastic part like it was going to crack.
wondering about the superglue method myself (i have cracks on both speakers). does it melt the plastic cover?
I have cracks on my TP as well. It's a hardware defect, much like the original Pre / usb door cracks. The plus side is that it will never spread to the screen, and it does not affect the performance (or looks if it's in a case).
I don't recommend sending it back for "repair" ... it's not worth it and you don't know if you'll get it back.
It works.
I just noticed cracks as well. I'm going to check out that ghost armor. Looks neat.

well the cracks around the speakers is cosmetic. Contact HP Support they will replace the casing.
I had the same issue with my TP. The customer support was good. They sent me a return box and label. All you have to do is to pack your TP as per instructions and drop it at nearby UPS store. I received the repaired TP within a week.
Act fast before the warranty expires.
I just noticed a crack in mine. Called them and they are sending a box out. It's covered for a year they said.
10 have it back. I'm sad but will be happy to get new one and will have armor case ready and waiting for it.

Yea. HP is going to get my tablet back in a few days. I have to go drop it off. I wonder if they've fixed the problem and the new ones don't do it. I sure hope so.
I have dropped mine and its cracked on the corner and some of the plastic has come away. Does anyone know if replacement covers are available while searching about this? Cant seem to find one.
My TP has now developed a crack near the speakers! Spoke to HP who said there was a batch of TP`s who had a "bad" batch of plastic and the new plastic they use is better and should not crack!!
I have to send photo`s of the crack to their Argentinian office and then the TP gets sent from the UK to Hungary for repair (through UPS)
Hungary?? I think that is the first time I have read the word "Hungary" anywhere in months (do not spend a lot of time looking at maps of Eastern Europe).

Thought this might be interesting for some to see how a Square trade accident coverage situation goes. I will update the thread as new events occur. If this isn't kosher to some, please delete. I searched the forums hoping to find a similar thread but found nothing.
I accidentally dropped my phone in my basement Sunday the 19th and filled out a claim form online on the 20th at approximately 12:30 pm central time. I was asked if I preferred to be mailed a refurbished phone of same or similar specs but since I use my phone for work I chose repair mainly in hopes that they can fix it and I won't have to go through hassles of installing a tibu backup. If for some reason they opt not to repair it figure it'd be nice to start fresh with a new Note. I entered my credit card information to be charged the $99 deductible to begin the process.
After filing the claim you are given information that they will contact you within 1-2 business days from submitting. Currently I have not been contacted after 1.5 business days have gone by (full day today, half the day before). They state to call them if I am not contacted in this time but after 15 minutes of being on hold I figure I can waste time doing that tomorrow when a full 2 days are up. The current status online is that an agent is being assigned to my case.
About the phone: It fell about two feet from my couch to the basement cement floor and cracked the lcd diagonally across. There is a chip in the top right corner of the ceramic and dents in the metal around it. It was housed in an elago case which I now regret as it protected nothing. Phone is still functional and has been backed up for when I am able to send it in.
Well that was quick. Moments after posting I received an email with the prepaid next day air UPS label to send it to their depot in LA. What I am hoping is that if they choose to repair the lcd that the chipped corner will be addressed as well as it snags my shirt. Fingers crossed.
Definitely interested to see how this works out for you. Wish you nothing but the best. Good luck.
Ya i would love updates on this too. I have so many warrantees through them but have never had to use it yet.
I always read about how people bust their phone so easily and it baffles me that I've never broken a screen yet. I had my iPhone 4 in my lap sitting in a van and got out forgetting it was their and it fell off my lap face down onto concrete and no scratches to the screen. I had my Note in my hand and accidentally hit my hand on a car door when I was getting out and it bounced onto the concrete below, face down. Got a couple chips on the bezel but that's about it. But yours busted falling two feet off the couch. So weird....

What was weird was I expected it not to be broken. It's definitely not the first time it's slipped out of my hands, but it's been a trooper and kept in tact until the short drop.
Anywho...
Got bored and google searched the place they are having me mail it to. It's these guys: http://www.cfrepaircenter.com
Some spotty reviews online, so fingers crossed. Wouldn't be too happy to spend $100 + original cost of the warranty to get a shoddy repair. I'm going to add a note about the broken ceramic and jacked up metal portion in hopes that it is addressed. I'll post pictures tomorrow to show a before and after.
It depends a lot on how the phone falls. The corners of an LCD screen tend to be weak spots, so it can often crack if it lands on a corner which sounds like was the case here.
With this phone the LCD, front glass, and bezel (the silver band) are one unit. So a cracked glass = entire front replaced. The part costs about $200.

There are a lot of little hairline cracks in the LCD as well that don't show too well. Using a Captivate right now and even with CM10 Jelly Bean, I know I'm going to be missing the Note immediately. Off it goes in the morning!
Is that after putting your note back to stock?
You could sneeze on this bezel and it dents it is weak....its unbelievable I am on my third and the bezel has had issues on all three after one minor drop each...the things soft like cookie dough

I haven't bothered doing more than rooting and unlocking it for travel. I need my phone 24/7 for work, and stock hasn't bothered me one bit (ICS or GB) on this. The phone is encrypted, if security was the question.
The finale!
Well, I got my phone back today. Looks terrific. I'll post pics later if needed, but if you know what a new Note looks like, that's what it looks like. Even arrived with the annoying little stickers that came on the bezel. Looks like they even replaced the plastic battery cover.
One minor thing is the phone was returned reset to factory due to my refusal to give up the encryption password. It's not a big deal as I ran a backup, just thought I'd mention it. I understand they needed to do QC before calling it fixed.
Have a new Otterbox Commuter case on the way tomorrow!
Decent service, fast turnaround, and pretty impressed all around. A tad bit expensive at $100 deductible but considering the cost without accident insurance and having to install the LCD myself, this was well worth it.
Thanks for sharing!

Awesome thanks for the updates
I just purchased a note and was thinking about whether to get this or not for it. This was great, maybe I will get one now. Glad to hear everything worked out for you.

So what i thought was initially my home button breaking or wearing out, was actually my screen lifting up. Has anyone seen it this bad?
i can fit my fingernail in there. Would something like this be covered by Samsung? I got the phone at the end of last year. I have even tried putting a dot of superglue in two places and that held for about a day then popped right back up.

if your phone is still under sammy's warranty... it can be a claim of defective workmanship or faulty product. you need to call samsung in texas and find out and send it to them for repairs. here's the number to the tech center: 1-888-987-4357

And if they don't cover it look up a video on how to replace the screen. You should be able to use the same procedure to remove and reinstall it correctly, without superglue. I think it's easier than sending your phone in and not having for a while. Or maybe your service provider will just replace it for you.

Yea im really hesitant on replacing the whole thing. im sure ill get that newer version that cant be rommed. I did find the front part of the phone with the screen, is this what i would need?

price doesnt seem too bad. Id rather not get the kit where you have to glue the screen to the digitizer.

New glass:

The last time I removed the entire LCD from a Samsung device it was a Tab 2 and I had to completely disassemble the device from the back, it was a huge endeavor.

I don't know that was the first thing I found when I Googled. Look for OEM glass.

If you send it to Samsung, you'll get the same phone back fixed. If you still have you old Vzw phone, Verizon will turn it on so you can still have service while it's being fixed. but try the Vzw dealer and see what they offer. Likely a new phone if it's still under their warranty, and yes, maybe the model that is locked up. but, towel root works on these phones.
