Hey,
I'm not sure if this has been discussed but I couldn't anything.
Today I received my third prime (the two before had screen issues).
When I tried to connect to my wifi (that worked with both the primes before) the device got stuck at obtaining an IP address. The signal strength was weak, only showing the dot below the 3 bars. I manually updated to ICS hoping it might get better.
Well, same problem in ICS... I did notice however, that whenever I delete the network (including the password, so it won't try to connect anymore) I get full bars. If I type in my password now, I only get the little dot on the very bottom (the first of the four 'bars') again and the device gets stuck at obtaining an IP address again. I'm not sure if this happened in HC as well.
Anyone have an idea?
Try forgetting network then reboot your tablet. Might just be acting funny.
Already tried it, even did a hard reset. Nothing changed.
I just found the problem though. When I tried a static IP address it connected without problems. Turns out the DHCP range was 'full' and I had to make it bigger. It's now connecting without any problems at full reception.
Looks like I can actually keep this one. Thanks for your help!
Glad to hear that. Enjoy your device.
maybe its your network.
static IP works!
I had the exact same problem with my wifi not connecting. tried everything including a factory reset/hard reset. using the static IP worked. go figure. simplest solution.
I had resetted my Prime the other day and lost wifi connectivity... It kept trying to obtain IP address to no avail. Tried everything but still could not get my prime to connect. So finally I decided to manually place the .28 update on to my external SD card. As soon as I plugged that card in the slot, my Prime immediately alerted me to the update. After the update I was able to connect to my wifi network like before! Saved myself a trip to the RMA route Also got my root back thanks to Sparky's new Tool!
The app "Wifi Static" will setup a static IP adress for you automatically.
Alternative buy the High End router ASUS RT-N66U "Dark Night" that has a very, very easy set-up, gives a lot more power output then others routers out there ( 450 mW in US and 100 mW in Europe!) and work seamless with our Asus Prime
Sometimes we loose the wifi signal after screen off and sleep. Then you can use a app callede "Fix My Wifi"...
Use it together with "BarControl" that is a simple app, where you can place apps in the statusbar and activated them witout leaving the actually screen and job.
I use BarControl for "Fix my Wifi" and olso to dimmer my screen darker then normal. I use a app callede "Screenfilter" that is perfect for night time and reading e-books with white sites.
Please notice that Barcontrol only use black letters and therefore it is not possible to read app name in statusbar, Just some of Barcontrols own icons like a sun and a wifi signal. Barcontrol works fine but is very simple. Do you know a app that can do the same ?

Sorry about that, I am using that on my One S phone, not my Prime.
The one I am using on the Prime is Notification Toggle.

I have this issue with wifi. It's that when I'm at home, it won't connect at all to my wifi all I get is obtaining address and eventually unsuccesful, yet occasionally it does work. Then, when using other wifis, turning on wifi does make it connect and show the icon in the notification bar, but still, it won't always work. I try to get into the market but it says no network or something like that. Tried most web browsers, nothing works too. What can I do? My phone is rooted and flashed with bionix fusion rom, evn though this problem sometimes happened even with stock firmware, rooted and not rooted. What can I do? Can't really get a replacement because i bought it from overseas. HELP!!

Some routers are a tad dodgy, so it may not be the phone at all. Since we dont know what type of router or what sort of connection environment your in (how many wifi connections it's handling, etc...) it's hard to say. Still it's easier to replace a $30 router than it is a several hundred $$$ phone.
I said in the post itself that I tried more than one wifi aka router, most of them connected to a laptop and my phone at a certain time. Therefore I doubt the issue is the router. I think it's a bug. Is there no fix for this?
This is kind of a shot in the dark, but have you tried putting the phone in Airplane mode and then restarting the Wi-Fi? I've found that the cell data connection can sometimes interfere with my Wi-Fi.

I would put my money on the router, I have not seen anyone else complain about this who is running bionix. So a bug within bionix, I'm going to say no.
HOWEVER!!!!!! I had the same problem for a while. I have AT&T uverse and there 2WIRE router is total crap... I had the same exact problems as you PLUS it would not connect to my mac mini for more then a few seconds. I hooked up an older router I had laying around and BAM no more issues.
I got the same problem, but my phone is not rooted or flashed. Must be a system/software problem.

No really people, It's the routers you are using... not the phone...
Hi guys,
First of all, I am quite new with Rooting, and putting roms on my phone. But I really like it, so I'm doing a lot of research to it atm
Two days ago, I decided to put CM7.1 on my Desire HD, together with the LorDModUE V8.1 kernel. Everything works just perfect, I really like it.
However, I do have one pretty big problem, and that has to do with wifi.
When I am upstairs, where my router is, my wifi works fine. But when I go downstairs, my wifi becomes ''unstable''. It still has connection with my router, but with a lower signal. Well, that isn't a problem really, but the problem is, is that my wifi signal becomes white after a while.
This still doesn't have to be a big problem, but for me it is, because my internet isn't working anymore, when I am having a white wifi signal! When I try to load a website on my phone, it just won't load. it is like it freezes, because it does not say I have no wifi signal.
So, I am still connected to my wifi, but it doesn't load any websites, or any other programs that require internet acces.
Then, when I reboot, it works fine again! but only for some time, it is really random.
This is only when I am downstairs. as I said, upstairs, at my router, it works perfectly.
What I already tried:
- Set my wifi options to static IP
- Downloaded wifi fixer
- reboot
- airplane mode
I really don't know where to find the solution. I could try to reinstall cm7.1, without that kernel, but I really like that kernel, so I prefer not to reinstall anything. But if that is really necessary, so be it
I would like to hear from you!
Niels
I think your problem is screen off and on, signal become white right?
If so, I think you forgotten to switch "WiFi sleep policy" to never in WiFi setting

Thanks for your quick reply, but that also does not help. I already tried that aswell, but I forgot to mention it.. it is already set to 'never'.. :/
HTC has better WiFi chips than Samsung.
Check with your kernels developers whether it has WiFi "N" router setting included. The "N" (larger WiFi range router support"
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
Hmm, It doesn´t seem to have that..
I guess I will have to reinstall cyanogen, and install a different/stok cm7 kernel then?
I made a screenshot on how it looks like, now it has a green connection, but the internet load bar sort of ''freezes''
* Oh, can't enter any link before I reached the 8th post >.<*
My sense wildfire has WiFi "N" rounter support in custom kernel

This is the second time this has happened to my Prime and I have no idea what could cause it. I found one other topic with a similar problem but no solution.
Anyway, last night, everything was working fine. Today, I get home and it connects to my WiFi just fine with full signal strength but when I go to my browser, YouTube or anything that uses the network, it says there's no connection. I restarted the tablet, hotspot and everything multiple times and it will work for a minute or so before stopping again. I haven't installed any new apps recently or made any changes to anything. Everything else on my WiFi network works perfectly.
The last time this happened, I did a factory reset on the tablet which didn't work at all. But the next day it decided to start working fine again. So we'll see if it decides to come back again, but is there any way to fix this when it does happen? Or preferably, prevent it from happening?
Could be having trouble getting an IP from your router.
Having said that the Prime's ability to maintain a connection is hopeless.
I have a Linksys E4200 which blasts a signal 100 metres across the road which my son can pick up.
I can be sitting in the next room and my Prime loses the signal from the same router.
The signal isn't the issue I don't think, it has full bars and other than these two problems, I've never had an issue with WiFi performance.
It's probably worth noting that the WiFi isn't COMPLETELY dead, once in a while, a webpage will come through. It's just that most of the time it just times out before it ever receives a page. I just did a factory reset again which did nothing to help. It timed out when trying to connect to my Google account...but worked on the second try. The Asus homepage timed out when I opened the browser, made it to Google but searching timed out. I was barely able to download TitaniumBackup from Play...just VERY slowly.
Asus tech support was useless as expected...they basically said to factory reset and if that doesn't work to RMA it. I guess if it's not working tomorrow, it's getting RMA'd...

At one point i was having similar issues. i had to delete the wifi network and recreate it to get it working. My buddy also had the issue with his droid and the only fix was to use a static ip.

Do you know how I can set it up as static IP? I'm using an Android phone with WiFi Tether as my hotspot.
It seems to be working fine for now...I'm posting from my Prime. But it worked yesterday for a few minutes then stopped again so it seems to be intermittant problems. I'm debating even sending it in for RMA because with my luck, it'll get there, work fine when they test it and they'll just send it back with no problems found with a couple of Prime-less weeks for my troubles.
Something weird though, my WiFi icon in the status bar is gray when it's usually blue. But it's still working for now...what does a gray icon mean?

I don't think this is true. I believe blue just means the device is in current communication with google servers, e.g. syncing emails. The grey/blue is no indication of success of wifi connection as I understand it.

No, ROM. Completely stock, just rooted.
Bandin, I'm on a C4 and this happened to me about 20 minutes ago.
I was using my Epic 4G Touch ICS FE16 leaked rom using wifi tether - not sprint hotspot.
Watching Netflix
Then it suddenly stopped....said Netflix cannot make a connection.
I quit Netflix and go to main screen and i see my wifi connection is grayed out. So i go to speed test.
Speed test tells me i have connection issues.
I goto my phone and run speedtest and I come back A-OK with 7Mb.
I've even pushed the wifi button on my dock on/off. Disconnected tab from dock select wifi off.
Shut down netflix open it up doesn't work until i do a reboot...
But...this has only happened with my E4GT running wifi tether and stock ics fe16. haven't experienced it on my routers or my neighbors.
Need a little help.
I'm Running AJ's Semi UCLE5 rom. It run's great. no problems with force closing or anything. I noticed something happening that I've never seen before.
On my home screen I run a widget (Beautiful Widget) for weather, location and it has a clock on it. It also allows for the location to be determined by geolocation, which is what I have it set on.
If I have wifi off, using "4g" data, my location is accurate. If I turn wifi on the widget says I am in Mesa, AZ which is about 1200 miles from where I actually am.
Two things that changed recently were that about 2 weeks ago I got a new sim card for my phone because the other one was old and curved and not making constant contact with the pins. Also, I recently got a new wireless router at home. My first guess was it could be the router since this only happens on wifi, but other apps on my phone (i.e. google maps) will be accurate with location when on wifi. Since the widget app I'm having the issue with was working with regular data, i thought i wasn't the app.
Any one with any idea here? would a wireless router cause this problem? The router works fine as far as I can tell otherwise.
edit: now it's looks like it's happening randomly. but still bothersome.
also regarding the app, i didn't think it would be the app because i've had it for a long time and it has never done this. it hasn't been updated in a while (and i don't do auto updating on Market apps.)
Please someone with more knowledge correct me if im wrong... But im pretty sure it uses your GPS for location and only data for the weather in that area... Maybe try clearing all app data and giving it a fresh start?

Well through all of this the gps has been turned off. It usually finds my location using the network and by that method i can understand a wider radius and less accuracy - but 1200 miles? I have used this widget for about 4-5 months, most of the time without gps turned on, and it is just now showing this problem. I will clear all the data and report back.
edit: well, just removed the widget and wiped data on the app. When I replaced the app to the homescreen (with wifi turned on) it "geolocated" me immediately to Mesa, AZ, the incorrect city. When I plcae the widget using cell data, the geolocation is correct.

I don't think gps is the issue. over the last few hours I've been trying to narrow down the problem. When I am away from my home wifi everything works perfectly. I decided to go into my router settings to see what would happen. When i took off all of the security and made it an open wireless network the problem seemed to go away. I gave it about 30 minutes on an open network and it located me fine without gps turned on.
I don't know much about tweaking security settings on routers but i guess it's time to branch out to learn.
edit:
now, with wifi on, every time i refresh the weather widget it flips between my city and Mesa, AZ (remember they are about 1200 miles apart). I don't know. I guess my problems could be worse. at least i'm not boot looping or bricked.
I may have fixed this. When I got a new wireless router and programmed it, I gave it the same network name and password but it had newer and higher levels of security settings. The phone was still programmed with the old username and password so it picked it up automatically and logged on.
I went into the wifi settings on the phone and "forgot" the network and then re-logged in. So far it has shown it is fixed. Crossing fingers but I don't know enough about wireless routers and signals to know if this would do it.
edit again:
It is my network somehow. I have since been on two other wireless networks (neighbors) and it did not do this strange location behavior. (what I though fixed it in this post above did not)
Anyone want to give me insight as to why my router would tell me I am halfway across the country?

Yes, its your wireless network, go into settings and uncheck location set by wireless network. will force GPS, and be more accurate, but also cost more battery.
EDIT:
Thats location settings or some crap depending on your build.

Did you buy that router second hand or new? If you bought it new, it was probably either a return or a refurbish. What's happening is the MAC of the router was registered in Mesa by Google when their street map cars came by scanning for BSSIDs. Same thing happened to me with a used router I bought and my old router when I moved across the country. AFAIK, there's no way to reregister the MACs location other than use the _nomap optout and waiting for google to get around to updating it's database. Can't post links yet but here's some more info.

Here's something weird after I did what you mentioned here. After looking at the map when searching the MAC address it put it in Manhattan, NY, at the other end of the country. Any idea?
Thanks, by the way, for the links.
wow. I finally fixed it. Yes, my router was purchased used so I guess Google had mapped it and the MAC address was still showing as it's old "home." This link showed me how to opt out of Google's MAC address mapping and within about 20-30 minutes, my location was finally showing correctly on all of our mobile devices.

Thanks again for the help.
Glad that helped ya and especially so quickly. That **** had me stumped for around half a year before I figured out what the deal was and even then, it took well over a month for them to update my MAC in their database.
The short of it is, my Wifi crapped out for reasons beyond my experiences thus far.
The long of it. I flashed epinter's 07/25/2012 Nightly and everything seemed to be working nicely, Wifi especially. Then today, out running errands and dropped my Atrix in my Car Dock and attempted to turn on Bluetooth for the first time since flashing, and the device froze then restarted. Once back up, I tried turning Wifi back on, and the device froze again and restarted. Thinking maybe the radio driver went south, I grabbed epinter's 07/27/2012 build (epinter-cm10-20120727_1846-UNOFFICIAL-olympus.zip), and still no luck. Back into Recovery, Wiping everything and also factory resetting then flashing twice over again, boot up, still no wifi, and if it manages to seemingly fire up, the device hangs and restarts.
Within the last 2 hours (Been at this for about 12 hours now.) I grabbed Jokersax's build (Beta 0.1.0), wiped/reset/flash twice as I have before. Now as I take a breath I noticed that the Wifi Icon came up in the Notification bar, but when I go into Settings and Scan, I see none of the Networks around me. I looked under Advanced and noticed that my MAC Address is 'Unavailable' nor am I showing an IP address, even though Wifi is saying 'On'. Verified on my Router, my Phone is not connected to it.
Odd Side note, installed aLogcat just to see if I could catch any errors, and it is not giving me anything, that is, I am not seeing any logs through the app. Most likely an unrelated issue, but still a tad annoying.
Everything else seems in order, including Mobile Data (Able to access Web Pages, Market/Play Store, receive email, etc.). Just Wifi pretty much 'Lights are on, but no one is Home.'. Any suggestions on next steps?
We discussed this issue over in some other threads and conclusion is that it's a hardware malfunction Ur broadcom chip is burned, many people (including me) had that problem.

We're talking fastboot wipe kind of clean install? Going to give that a go as a last attempt, will post results here.
Glimmer of hope tonight, was discussing the problem with a friend, went to turn on WiFi and it actually scanned and connected for about 2 minutes before crapping out. This tells me there maybe life to the chip still. Now to get fastboot to connect and try a wipe and see what happens.

Any news on this front? I am one of the afflicted as well.
I'm having a similar issue. though my BT works just fine, no delays, no errors, no intermittance.
Wifi, I can scan for networks just fine. i click on mine to connect. it shows connecting, noting that when it says connecting the signal shows 1 bar as compared to the full set of wifi bars when scanning, i am also right next to the AP. is tries connceting for about 20 seconds or so. then goes back to saying "saved" under the SSID, other networks showing "disabled" when this happens. i originally noticed this after flashing epinters cm10. i tried flashing 37p, 36p and 30p radios with no difference.
EDIT: also want to note that i HAVE disabled the "avoid poor connections" option. and have tried setting static IP.
I flashed the same and I am unable to get my wifi to work after clean wipe, radio install or anything else that I have tried. Could software have really burned up a wifi radio????

Mine works occasionally so I don't think the radio is dead. The rom just acts like it's not there most of the time and doesn't give a mac address. Sometimes it works though after a reboot. Would flashing a different radio help? My baseband version says N_01.77.37P
I had an IP and a MAC, but no wifi internet.
Using mobile data, I downloaded Set DNS and then enabled wifi, works fine.
Now it's working but mobile data is going very very slow, it took 5min to download Set DNS.
I have a skyrocket but the "no wifi" issue is probably the same - your not getting DNS
I'm going back to CM9 for now.
+1 wifi matter under CM10
Try rebooting the router.
Experienced same issue (unable to connect, showing full bars, dropping to 1 bar when connecting and never being able to complete a connection) rebooting my router has fixed the issue. I'm not technical but it might have to do with the DNS release for addresses .. in any case unplugging my router for a bit and restarting it fixed the issue for me.
