[Q] Replace System Apps - Motorola Droid X2

I would like to install the AOSP camera app on my phone and I'm having trouble finding information. So my thought was I downloaded Eclipse 2.0 and then extracted the Camera.apk from it. I have no issues getting it to /system/app (just remount system rw), however I have a few questions.
Do I simply "freeze" or rename the blurCamera.apk and then put the Camera.apk in place?
All the APKs on stock ROM have odex files ... will I brick my phone trying to do this, does this APK also need to have an accompanying odex file to function?

Download this and flash it in bsr.

Thank you very much, one more question. After I flash this is the Blur Camera "gone", or if I freeze it can I restore it later (although I do have recovery backups although not tested I'm kind of a wimp ).

except that isn't the stock x2 blur camera.
that is the eclipse themed ionic camera.
if u want the stock x2 blur camera just save a copy of the apk to your sd card..might wanna save.odex file just in case as well...
also, the bionic blur camera is hacked to work with blur gallery preview on eclipse, im not sure how well those zips will work on a stock x2 system....

I froze the stock app so I should be able to smoke the APK that was installed and "unfreeze" the original app. Thanks much to all I'm still trying to understand alot of this. FYI Mag your link worked for me thanks much.

Yep, works fine here. Go into SU, clear the allow privileges for it, and try again.
System recovery app works the exact same. Make sure you plug into wall charger first and hit "install", then enter recovery the same as we did on froyo.
no problems on my end...great app

Sounds like you updated to gingerbread using motorola method.
You should look at that thread for sbf to 2.2 and using p3's gingerbread. That's the only way to get gb and maintain root access at the same time.
Still doesn't work but untested absolute does so its all good.

Works good just wish I could easily load more fonts/bootanimations (without renaming them to the preset ones)

stupid question, i'm on p3's rooted stock un-deodexed gingerbread rom. can i use uot and jrummy's root tools or do i need a deodexed rom?

Stock apks

Anyone have the stock apks and odexs or link to them for the milestone X2? Or the DROID X2 if they'll work. I deleted some crap and deleted the contacts apks and odexs and now I can't access the dialer. Im stock 2.3.6 and it seems others wont work after setting the proper permissions and rebooting.
Thanks!

Ill be more specific... I need 2.3.6 apks & odexes of blurcontacts & blur contactssync please. I cant bring up the dialer without. Unless someone has a full stock rooted backup. It would be very appreciated for anyones help. Thanks!

I'm going to upload starting now and probably post links here in the morning. My nandroid is not quite virgin. I had a few programs and games already installed before a root method was found.
You should data wipe it to protect your privacy. See link in the 3rd or so post above.
OK, I'll wipe it first and then upload

I didn't know there were ROMs for that kernel.... I use Eclipse on the 2.3.5 kernel and it is the best on the X2.

I got the sbf in the developement thread, it was posted under the roms, root, etc. etc.? In that list i only see a couple roms offered and was just wondering if their were any more?
Alright I will reiterate because maybe im confused. I SBF'd to android version 2.3.3 system version 1.3.232, kernal version 2.6.32.9. Now what roms are available for me?
Well there were several eclipse releases for that build but I highly doubt anyone has access to them. Hosting for old roms isn't a priority. Honestly you are better off upgrading your build and kernel. 2.3.3 wasn't the most stable

You can do cm7dx2 with the 2.3.4 or eclipse 2.1 with the 2.3.5 update
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I hear great things about eclipse is it very stable? And I would have to sbf to 2.3.5. How do I root that version?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA
If you update to 2.3.4 then eclipse 1.3 is very stable! Let me know if you need a link. You can always save root with voodoo root keeper free app and just take the OTA.
I would also strongly using the rerecovery zips as well to always flash last before you reboot in bsr. If you are not sure what I mean I will post a link.
Yea Travis a link would be great so 2.3.4 is what I should sbf to and i have rootkeeper already but was just wondering what the root method was? Psouza has a method for that right.

Rootkeeper isn't necessary for 2.3.4. It could actually cause problems with flashing the rom. Use Pete's one click.

Indeed we can help. You can flash cm7, eclipse 1.3, liberty (its not all that great), and molten rom. I recommend eclipse for stability and cm7 for customization. All you will need to do is install the bootstrap recovery and use it to make a backup of your stock rom. Then wipe data, cache, and dalvic cache. Then flash the rom of your choice. Cm7 requires a few extra steps but we can cross that bridge of we get to it.
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
Yea I think eclipse is my choice, seems the most stable. I'm not sure about the step by step process for doing this I would like a detailed walkthrough for this it would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a 2.3.3 version of Eclipse? Let me know which version you want to use.
Here is a skeleton walkthrough just to give you an idea:
Make sure your device is rooted
Download the appropriate version of Clockwork Recovery abbrev. (CWR)
Download the rom of your choice and any other zips you need and make sure they are on you EXTERNAL sd card (very important but DO NOT freak out if forget, these things can be fixed
Install CWR from inside the app labeled System Recovery
Your system will reboot into CWR.
Whilst in CWR you want to wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache and System Data
(things will be muy poopy if you dont wipe sys data and Cache; Dalvik not so much)
You would then proceed to 'install zip' --> 'install from SD card'
Find the zips need to flash the rom, let everything work, go back to the CWR home menu (the first one you saw)
Hit 'Reboot device now' and bam, you just flashed your first rom!!!
For future reference: When a developer or anyone for that matter says you have to flash a zip file, the above process is what you would follow; sans wiping the Big Three (Cache Dalvik Cache and Sys Data) though some zips may require to wipe one of three and the poster will tell you which one.
Once you decide which rom you want to flash, Ill give you a more specific walkthrough.
im on 2.3.4 now and want to go with eclipse. That seems to be for me from what ive read. I have read i should do a nand backup but do i have to do that even though im only rooted with no rom? And you mentioned a more detailed walkthrough that sounds great, the noob frendlier the better.lol
thanks again

The first thing you want to do is upgrade to 2.3.5. That is the kernel you need to be in in oder for Eclipse to work.
You really always want to nandroid when you are installing something semi big. You'll save root and time if something messes up. Do you know how to nandroid? It takes about 15 minutes to do

No I've never nandroided, not really sure how. And can u walk me through the process of doing the 2.3.5 update

[Q] How do I remove mods?

How do I remove mods, like mashup?
If you made a nandroid backup before you installed the mod then just BSR to your backup
right, make a backup, before any major changes
otherwise it's SBF time for you

or you can flash the stock. mashup includes the stock zip incase you wanna go back..it was called Stock (2.3.5) if i'm not mistaken..
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
All mashup is, is a build.prop change out. Just use root explorer and pull the build.prop file from the rom ur using and copy and past into your system file.
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
If it's just mashup you don't like you could flash another build prop mod like 8 touch points if you're on a supported rom, if not just reflash the rom you're on.

[REQUEST] Stock Motoblur Contacts.apk

Hello guys,
I've just bought a Razr XT910 and I'm really in love with this cellphone, but my carrier (Claro - Brasil) have customized icons that are really annoying me, especially the Contacts.apk (see 1st screenshot). All I want is the stock Motoblur Contacts.apk (see 2nd screenshot). I've already flashed de Retail ICS Rom and the icons remain there. But the Messages, Camera and Gallery (that I've installed from the Razr M thread) are with the stock Motoblur icons. Can someone please upload the stock app or tell me how can I fix this?
Thank you guys!

Thanks man, but it seems to be more complicated than I thought. When I try to install over the other apk, the system tells me that is already an app with the same signature and etc., and when I uninstall the old apk, the Phone.apk disappears and I can't install the new Contacts..
Any help?
damn sux...have you tried installing with root explorer? and setting the permissions?

Another option
I don't know if you are dead set on getting the stock favorite contacts apk but if you are not, there is one that I have been using for a while. I highly recommend it and it was just recently updated. I can't post the link to it as I don't have 10 posts but PM me and I will be happy to send you the link.
