Look at my signature. Use my toolkit. It has everything you will need. If you want to wait about 5 mins, I am going to add my new toolkit.

HTC Sync can be a problems but if the drivers were standalone, I don't see why it would cause any issues.

yea ok, still same problem. adb is not finding the device even though i have usb debugging enabled and used Hasoon's tool to flash the HTC drivers.
help?

You could have at least linked him to a driver download.

ok, i had a way to find (almost) all adb drivers for android phones and your pc. but because the user interface is all in chinese, i just recommend you to follow my steps.
first, go to 360. cn scroll down and you may see this...
(attachment 1)
click the green arrow going down...that is the download link.
second, install it.
follow the instruction on the screen...(if you don't see a word but all rectangles or alien words, that normal. just click the only button on the installer and a popup window, click the left one). a popup window on your internet explorer or google chrome and go down to the list, click the first one, a circle with yellow and green. remember it is the first circle but not the second. again, the green arrow. the size is about 900kb.
step 3, run the installer, again click the only blue rectangle inside the installer. a download will go on. just wait...
after that, it will install automatically.
next, you may see two boxes checked. uncheck the second one. in this case, just kill the process (inst.exe) with task manager.
remember the install i mentioned in step 1? ok, run it. this time if you click the blue rectangle you should not get an error.
so, continue the installation process. see a box popup, click the first one. if you did things right, you should see 3 new windows popping up. close both on front.
now here's the highlight...
connect your phone with your computer with usb, with usb debugging enabled.
at the upper left of your application, you should see a white box with four words.
click the box, click the usb, click the boxes inside the dialog one by one. one of them means next step.so, you should see three circles, first one is searching for adb driver, second one is downloading adb driver, third one is installing driver( at the third one you should see a warning from windows, leave it, just say install.)
and you will see a white shopping bag with a funky flower...close it, close the application. now your computer should now be able to identify your phone!
this way is for all android phones. if you want to do it for someone you know, just follow the instructions again. remember that the applications that installed is not be uninstalled so that you can use them again.
thank me if i helped you, lastly, i hope that it helps!

Drivers and windows 7

What's up guys. I have been a flash junkie for the past several weeks.. Flashing Axura, Team Whiskey's roms and everybody else's in between. I bricked my vibrant this past Sunday and needed to Odin back to stock because I could not get into recovery. So I proceeded to open Odin and hook up my phone when I get a message on my PC that my device wasn't recognized. So I went through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers... I had no luck. So I got frustrated and went to a friends house and tried it. WTF? IT WORKS. He also has win7. So after a fresh Odin and back to an unrooted 2.2 I figured I could connect to my computer.... ( ha)... no luck again. So I backed up everything and installed win7 again. Tried it after that and still saying that the device is unrecognized. I know its probably something simple I'm overlooking but if anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated...

I have no problem with W7. It's possible your USB port is taking a dump. Do other USB devices work? Did you try another USB port?
Yep..... the only thing I have hooked up is a printer.... also I have tried all the ports. They all start to download the driver then it stops and the little notification bubble pops up and tells me that my device has stop working.

Try uninstalling the drivers you've at the moment, plug your vibrant and wait for the W7 drivers to install. Windows may have downloaded the drivers from the internet when you first plugged in your vibrant then you installed the drivers on here and **** got confused so if the w7 drivers work and your vibrant is recognized then all's good. Elsewhere, uninstall the drivers and install the xda ones but his time make sure you assign them manually too. (update driver>don't search for driver>let me assign the driver)

This is good start, Also try disabling your virus protection, sometimes it goes wonky and decides to block some of the usb hook up like a camera or phone, this has happened to me in the past.
Win 7 is very stable but on thing as a recommendation if you do not have you might think about getting win pro 64bit, is the most stable I have found...... just an after thought......... hope you get this resolved.
Thanks..... Will definitely try that when I make it home.

I no longer have the device in question in hand, but other people may find this same problem so I felt I should post it anyway.
I eventually gave up on Snowball and just rooted it with Indirect's method and it went correctly, indicating that I had automount shut off and USB Debugging on correctly.

it is an apk that you must download FROM your NOOK browser.
if you just copy it to an sd or the nook, it won't recognize (I dont know why)
it will say change settings to allow install( do the crap )
then go to the most bottom option (don't have nook with me)
and it will say USB Debugging check that and on the bottom, it will say auto mount (uncheck)
If you are OCD then you can check both USB debugging but only the top is required
then plug in your nook and make sure it says USB debugging on and then run the Snow Mod thing and it wont give you the error
(thank You button) click it

I stated clearly that I was able to root it with Indirects method, which as I understand it, indicates that USB Debugging and Automount were turned on and working. Also, the installer wouldnt have found my device without USB debugger turned on, Unless I am very much mistaken. Also, I did re-check and un-check auto mount multiple times.
Excuse me for not thanking this time, I will happily do so next time friend.

This was an error in the earlier install scripts scripts. The most recent download of snowball-mod.zip should _not_ have this issue.
When was this updated? I encountered this error on the 1st.

cfoesch:
I couldn't post this in the main thread in the developer's forum, so I will add to this string:
I too had problems on the 2nd with the first batch file hanging, and the second not seeing the NT. I followed these instructions to fix the adb driver (to kill the autoinstalled driver for the USB storage drives) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363652 and although it still hiccupped a couple of times, the second script finally ran through.
So far, it is a great mod. I have the following observations/ questions/ suggestions:
There are still some secondary menus/settings screens where the contrast isn't quite there... check the account settings for gmail, for example. They are more readable than they were with white on white, however.
Any suggestions on apps to handle copy/paste functions, or the ability to long press on entry boxes to bring up input mode selections, etc? Similarly, something to access running or recently used apps, like the long home press on a phone? I love the NT with your mods!

This has been addressed in a few other threads, but there is some deeply flawed design decisions made when the B&N dev team designed the framework-res.apk. As a result, "Bright" is dark, and "dark" is bright. This means that in a lot of cases drawing themed bright text on black will produce black-on-black text.
It's basically broken, and there is little that can be done for it right now. Sorry. (I hate it, too, so don't worry, it's definitely not off my plate.)

Um... I don't know about copy/paste. I think that's a HC feature that isn't available for GB... honestly, I just started using android at the beginning of December, so I'm not a guru in using it yet... the underpinnings though? I've been using *nixes for nearly a decade now, so that stuff is easy for me.
Running or recently used apps: NT Hidden Settings should have access to this menu. At the very least it is on a menu under one of the menus.

[Q] need help rooting prime. 3.2.1 Epad:8.8.3.27

I'm on honeycomb(3.2)
I'm assuming the version of the prime: us_epad-8.8.3.27-20111122
So i went to the development section downloaded the primetime4.1 file.
I ran the ADB.exe file it installed... Then I went to tablet, click the install unknown sources and usb dugging. Then plug up the long USB Cord it came with. Clicked the primetime.4.1.exe file and the black/red screen comes up...... I choose 3 since I don't have the ICS update. so after that this message comes up:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started succesfully *
it's stuck on this screen.
Made sure to install the included drivers for the Prime? And to cut ASUS Sync off?
Pretty sure you don't get adb with default drivers, which is of course what we're reliant on.

It's under accounts and sync in the tablet. And no, adb.exe is just how we communicate with the Prime with full control from the pc, it's the "android developer bridge" or whatever.
Go to Start menu, right click computer, click manage devices or whatever, and find your transformer under mobile or however it's listed. Once you've found it, right click, update driver, and select the driver folder included with viper's download.

[Q] fastboot stuck on waiting for device

Alright guys/gals, I'm sorry to make this thread, but I've been messing with this for days and just can't get it. I'm hoping someone with XP 32bit may know the answer. Or maybe someones google-fu is better than mine.
So, here it is:
I FINALLY installed the sdk a few weeks ago.
When I plug my Evo LTE in, and type adb devices, the window shows my device. I can adb reboot bootloader and that works. Then switch device to fastboot via bootloader. But when I try to do a fastboot command (fastboot reboot) it hangs on 'waiting for device'.
Apparently it's a driver issue, I assume. But I just can't figure out what exactly I need. Or maybe a different fastboot.exe in my sdk?
Using win XP sp3 32 bit. Anyone else?
Also, I can't get my PC to see my evos internal storage. I've tried uninstalling HTC sync (but actually it still shows in manage programs) I've tried installing the 32bit drivers in the zedomax root thread. Numerous reboots. I've installed easytether from market and used it (I've seen some say the drivers from that help with various android driver issues). Nothing will get my (crappy, low rent, PC) to see my new Evo. Sees my old Evo just fine, always has. But I know USB/MS is different from MTP.
I'm not a total noob. I rooted my Evo on launch day 2010 and have flashed and modded ever since. But when it comes to PCs and drivers etc, I really am a total noob.
So, if ANYBODY has any advice or links to what I need, I'd be forever indebted.
Much thanks to any response (except lmgtfy lol).
Edit:
My PC doesn't have web connection (I really just use it for storage and android stuff. Also, when I check in device manager, it doesn't show Android 1.0, as some tuts suggest, it shows my HTC.
Also, when i plug into a win7 PC with a web connection, it grabs drivers and recognizes my storage with no problem (if that helps). Thanks

haha thanks man. Total irony, I set my sdk up using QBkings videos and files cuz i was following galaxy nexus stuff cuz I got one for my mom for mothers day. . Still can't get it. Thanks though.
From what I've seen, most times when drivers are issue, device manager shows android 1.0. Mine doesn't say that. Mine shows MyHtc, and says all drivers are good.
Adb works. Fastboot no-worky.
If anyone else has struggled with XP, I'd love to hear it.

I have the same issue using Win7 with the updated drivers used for Root. I have the SDK downloaded and all files that were specified installed to c:\Android. You can see my screen copy in the other HTCDev failed thread. I am stuck in the same boat. Hoping someone can help us with this. As some are getting it and others are not.

Well try uninstalling all phone drivers. Reboot and just hook the phone up and see what happens. Also could be the fault of the of the cable or you need to try a different USB port. And man WinXP 32? Somebody needs to update/ get a new PC . I'm kidding, I was stuck with two of em on XP, just recently got a new laptop with W7. If that doesn't work you could try setting up a Linux VM and see if fasfboot will work through there... but that a like last resort and only if you know what your doing on Linux or can google-fu quite well.

Would be great if one of the all knowing ones could make a script to do this. That includes the needed files and ish. Put this @ the root of C: and click the script that way if you do what your told you can narrow down what is wrong.

Here is the fix. The problem is the android 1.0 drivers. To fix install the PDA net desktop client. When you run it it will ask if you want to replace the drivers. Do this. Go to device manager and look for android 1.0 with the yellow exclamation point. Hit update drivers and browse to (x86/PdaNet for Android/usbwin (windows 7 the location will be different depending on your machine) you will see a security warning install anyway.Complete the installation and this should solve the issue.
Also as a note you may have to toggle signed drivers especially on Windows 8.

Finally. I got fastboot working. But just through dumb luck. I uninstalled everything HTC I could find and then tried 12billion different ways to update the 2 drivers I'd downloaded. I finally got the android 1.0 in device manager then tried every driver I could find.
Fastboot works now. But NOTHING I did got XP to see my device as a storage MTP :banghead: dammit, I NEED to be able to get to my sh1t.

Same, same, did you already unlock the bootloader?
Sent from my EVO using XDA
Nope. Haven't unlocked bootloader yet. It's gonna be tricky, too, I think. As you need a web connection. My XP with SDK and adb/fastboot doesn't have web.
But the PC i have access to with web DOESNT have the sdk set up (which it sounds like you need to accomplish the htcdev unlock).
I wish I could help and tell people how I finally got fastboot to work, but it was countless driver uninstalls and reinstalls and reboots (phone and PC), trips to bootloader. (While in bootloader, I saw different drivers in device manager than I saw while booted,...and I think this was a key clue for me. This is where I finally saw the Android 1.0 driver to update. Updated manually thru browsing files, and used the drivers from the root thread.
Also the usb-windows drivers from qbking77. Still not getting any USB storage action gggrrrrrrrr :banghead:

Since uninstalling HTC stuff fixed it, I wonder if disabling HTC Sync would have done it as well. I know it messes with ADB, so I'm wondering if it messes with Fastboot as well. Just a thought. Good job working through it though.
Yeah, I believe so. Also, I just remembered, when I was doing a driver update (turns out there's multiple ways to update drivers with the same result) in a little window before browsing for the driver, it showed my HTC 1.0.XX and my HTC 2.0.1XX and I believe I highlighted the my HTC 2.0.1XX then clucked "have disk".
I'll try to get a screenshot in a minute, if I can.
In the meantime, this weird headset looking icon (or hearing aid) showed up in my notification bar yesterday and I CANNOT figure out what the hell it is. I've been all through settings and just am stumped and feeling really stupid. Anyone know what this is?

Bought used possible bricked phone, can I unbrick?

I really wanted this phone and found one broken on a local classifieds site. I checked the MEID number with Verizon and it's good, so I went ahead and traded some stuff for this phone. It came with the Dre beats earbuds, so worst case scenario, I've got a nice set of earbuds.
Anyway, the guy told me the phone was in his pocket and he bumped into something and after that the LCD didn't show anything. I have fully charged the battery. The orange light comes on but nothing appears on the screen, after leaving it to charge overnight the orange light did change to green. I can hook it to my computer and access the mem card, so it appears somewhat functional. The 16GB mem card he gave me isn't the original, so the filestructure isn't there. I told him I didn't want the phone without a mem card, so he got this one from his friend.
I took the phone apart to verify connections, and noticed that the screen backlight was working. I verified with my multimeter that it's getting 4.31v and when the power button is pressed it drops to 4.28, yet the phone appears dead, no vibration from the motor, no sounds, nothing!
I'm just looking for other ways to verify a dead LCD before I buy one. I could see it lighting up from behind the screen with the phone apart. Someone had been in there before because there was a screw missing, but nothing looked water damaged or broken.
Before I spend $30 on a screen, I want to ask a few questions. Could rooting this phone and overclocking it do this? Is there anything I should/can do to test the motherboard or anything else before I spend $ on the screen? Can/should I try setting the phone back to stock someway, somehow?

Anything done to the software apart from experimental hacking/flashing, you should still be able to get into bootloader. If it happened as he said it did could likely be a screen. I don't have a ton of experience but that's my 2 cents.
I have something you can try, do you have the android SDK installed on your computer?

You'll want to install that if you plan on rooting it at all

No, under the "tools" folder there are just "android SDK tools" and "Android SDK Platform-tools" both say installed.

The only 2 folders I have on that list are "tools", which when I open only has the 2 options mentioned in my previous post.
Then there are a bunch of Android 4.1, 4.03............
Then at the bottom is a folder called Extras
What am I missing?

No that's for developing applications and stuff, don't worry about that. All you need are the extras and tools stuff
I installed everything I could under tools and extras, maybe my version of SDK manager doesn't have it?
I just googled SDK manager download and clicked the first link, then the blue box "download for windows"
Please don't give up on me guys, I really want to do this tonight!
Am I suppose to have the phone hooked up to the PC for all of this?
