ROM issues... what do you think - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so I was using "the Go" rom (2.3.3) for awhile - everything worked, I jsut wanted to try something new.
So I tried flashing MIUI and got stuck at the SE screen, couldn't even get into recovers.
-Proceeded to use flashtool to go back to stock --> root etc..
-I was able to get into xrecovery ONCE to flash a new rom (Wolf's), then I wouldn't be able to get into it again. When in wolf's rom (2.3.3) I couldn't turn on Wifi , kept getting an error status.
-I then flashed stock rom + rooted again --> flashed Wolf's + Doom Kernel --> still no wifi
-2 hours later I just went back to "the Go" rom and everythings working without any issues... I'm able to get into x recovery by pressing back and my wifi works..
-flashed Doom Kernel as a test... wifi is fine!
my question is ... WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?
I don't want to have this issue if I try and upgrade/switch ROMS...
let me know your thoughts.

I just flashed Feralabs rom and it said wifi works if on doomkernelv6.I got error for wifi, but just reinstalled the patch and it works......and I was on doomkernel to begin with.

If you actually read my post properly there's more to the issue than wifi... and I was asking what the issue could be. In no way did I complain about a rom or kernel...but thank your contribution.

If your phone has been unlocked, you have to get the right wifi module for it to work.. next time before you flash other roms.. wipe everything that can be wipe/clear and make a backup of your current rom in case something happen.. hope this helps

[Q] Trouble with Bitsnacker 2.1 on xperia x10

Okay last week i use the superoneclick method to root my device, and have since been reading up on installing roms etc etc.
so i followed a tutorial that got me to instal busybox then xrecovery, i backed up the system before installing Bitsnacker 2.1, when it installed it started just fine, however when i opened my browser it would not close, so i rebooted the phone, it started just fine but my home screen was inexistant, it was completely black. so i figured another reboot was in order, this time i used xrecovery to reboot the phone, this just caused the phone to boot infinitely.
so i reinstaled Bitsnacker 2.1from scratch, its now working fine again, however my phone will not transmit any data, it cant connect using 3g or anything so im having to use my wifi, which is fine apart from when im out and about.
so is there nything i can do to fix this or is this a known bug in the rom? ( i couldnt find anything in the thread for Bitsnacker 2.1)
Did you wipe everything in xrecovery before you flashed the bitsnacker ROM?
Do you have the .54 baseband?

If it happens again, wipe everything with xrecovery then reflash the ROM.

Installing ICS alpha SW-tweaked, bootloop

I just tried to install the latest ICS alpha version for my xperia neo. Everything went fine and it said everything flashed okey, but now its just coming up with the "Sony Ericsson" text and then restarts itself over and over. Anyone have any ideas of what to do?
edit 1: Maybe i should try to redo it? i can still access cwm.
edit 2: Just redid the whole installing procedure and got the same results.
edit 3: Gave up for the moment as i need the phone working tonight so i chose to install the NEO SE.TWEAKED 0.8.5 and now i get stuck on the "Sony Ericsson" logo/text. Really have no clue of what to do now.
edit 4: cannot access cwm recovery anymore. This doesn't feel so good anymore. Anyone have an idea of how get anything working?
edit 5: I can get into the fastboot mode, can i do something from this?
edit 6: Restored to my backup via fastboot for now. We'll see if i dare trying out something new later/tomorrow or not.
Probably you don't read install instructions carefully and missed something. Etc...right kernel flashing..
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
I met all the requirements, unlocked the bl, installed cwm and got fastboot working.
I then booted both boot.img and after that recovery img. got into the 4.0.0.5 (or something like that) recovery and there i flash first rom then fixes then gapps.
I don't see what i missed. I had stock kernel and it didn't say anything about changing the kernel from what i could see.
But i probably missed something somwehere i guess, do you have any idea of what?

Sorry, post edited.
Thanks for the help guys!
I was at stock kernel, problem was i didn't flash the boot.img, i only booted it. Guess i could do it now then but if you say it's not worth it to get ics yet then i will wait.
Great work btw really impressed with what you people do even if i didn't get it to work yesterday (my fault obviously not yours)
Would you recommend flashing either cm7/se tweaked 0.8.5? or is it not such a big difference? On my old zte blade the difference was huge when flashing cm7 instead of stock rom but as the neo is pretty good to begin with maybe its not that big of a deal.
I tried installing se tweaked 0.85 again but i got stuck on boot logo again. I'm on everything stock as i restored it all yesterday (except unlocked bl and cwm). Do i need another kernel or something for this?

you need doom 9 kernel or inteks kernel tats all mate for little things to work stock is just stock !! hope you get sorted soon an just see what tweaked roms n miui n cm roms have to offer
awesome i'll go ahead and try the intek kernel right now then! big thanks!
edit: no problem with flashing inteks kernel, booted up as it should with stock rom. tried to flash se tweaked 0.85 again, and yet again i got stuck on boot logo (now the intek one of course). I just can't figure out what i'm doing wrong.
here's what i did:
start in cwm mode 5.0.0.27 or something like that.
wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache.
flash se tweaked 0.85, flash kormatoes ics theme.
reboot system, stuck on logo and waited for at least 7-8 mins.
edit 2: right now i'm downloading the rom again, maybe it's a corrupt download or something.
edit 3: Got miui running now so i guess i'll try that for a bit now, would really like to get se tweaked going though!
edit 4: Could have been a corrupt download, did everything just like before and now i got se tweaked 0.8.5 running!

The problem is the theme you're trying to install from kormatoes, it creates bootloops. Install SE.Tweaked 8.5 without the theme but, just so you know, SE.Tweaked theme is ugly. But works correctly, oh yeah and it's not a rooted ROM, which is kinda weird..

And you are thanks for the head up but u know nothing at all or even why it gives boot loops
The fact its for different Rom and you don't lissen or read posts. And if you knew anything about root
And not to use stock kernel for se-tweaked Rom only use doom
And the reason it's themed like that is because of people like you complaining about heavy themeng
Ps ics lockscreen n theme
over 500 dl from just v 1

[Q] WiFi not working on JB ROMS

Just got a GSIII today and have been trying some JB ROMS out, but so far I have not been able to get WiFi working at all with any of them.
I have tried Vanilla RootBox, LiquidJB and SuperNexus but whilst I can see my WiFi AP on all of them and can enter my password all I get is the "Connecting..." message for ages before it gives up?
WiFi works fine on the stock ROM, and there are no obvious settings on the WiFi router itself which would be causing this.
Any advice appreciated!

Thanks, I just spotted a couple of threads mentioning this.
Couple of questions, when you say flash back to stock does that mean through CWM Recovery, or some other way? Does it have to be a straight flash to a downloaded stock ROM or am I able to just "restore" the backup I made?
Thanks again!

Cool, so I've got Odin (I believe that's what I used to root the phone?) Is there a specific .zip I need to flash back to? Also do I need to boot back in to the stock ROM or just stick JB straight back on again?
Please note, when you have flashed back to ics you need to then set up phone and connect to Wi-Fi once, then proceed to flash jb

Excellent. Do I need to download a specific "Stock ICS" ROM to do this? Any pointers as to where I can find this?
Thanks for the help people
I seem to remember I just flashed an old wannamlite Rom in cwm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
These ones. (4.0.4)
Or try http://fus.nanzen.se/
This is if you want to find the original firmware your phone came with.
I'm still not having much luck with this.
Should I be wiping before I flash back to ICS, and then again before back to JB?
I think a wipe before flashing ICS is enough.
But watch the youtube video on the first post on :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
It pretty much explains every part of returning to stock ICS. From there it is just reflashing JB with odin and wifi should work.
Hmm, still not having much luck. I've installed my JB ROM, wiped, gone back to stock ICS using the ROM from the link provided above in ODNI.
But now when I try to reboot in to recovery to re-flash my JB ROM I seem to get a different version of recovery from what I had before and it fails during verification when I try to flash the .zip.
Any advice welcome!
I'm having the same problem here.
BUT, even flasing stock ICS and flasing a custom JB ROM after that does not solve the issue.
Here is what I did in what order. Maybe I'm missing some essential point or whatever:
- full wipe in cwm recovery
- flash stock ICS via Odin (I9300XXBLH3_I9300DBTBLH4_I9300XXLH1_HOME.tar)
- reboot and test WiFi. WiFi works fine! Firmware is 4.0.4
- flash CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 to gain root again
- boot into CWM Recovery, format /preload (to get rid of apps installing themselves on boot)
- another full wipe
- install zip from sdcard (tried AOKP JB build 4 for i9300 and ParanoidAndroid v2.22)
same old ****! WiFi not conecting!
I would apeciatie any help to solve this problem for me. Aparently reverting to stock ICS has solved this for others but I dont get what I'm donig wrong her...
try some router side adjustments

you need to root again flashing 'CF-Root' via Odin to get CWM recovery. I guess.

that does not seem right. My phone connects just fine with any ICS based ROM. It even conects with JB ROM Android Revolution HD.

Okay so I Re-rooted with CF-Root through ODIN and have got CWM recover back, but now when I re-flash JB I still get the same problems, try to connect to WiFi and it just sits there saying "Connecting..." and then gives up!
Is there a specific set of steps for doing this? I connected to WiFi whilst back on the Stock ICS ROM (LG8) and that worked fine, I have tried various combinations of wiping/not wiping at each stage in between JB->ICS->JB with no luck. Do I need a particular Stock ROM to go back to, do I have to use a specific version of ODIN/CF-Root/CWM?
Very annoying as everything else about the Jelly Bean ROMS seems perfect!
Has anyone worked out why JB ROMS are doing this?
I have the same problem
It seems to work for some people to go back to ICS and then flash JB ROMs, but somehow it does not work for us..
I'm trying an old stock ICS now and the will flash cm10. lets see if that helps
I've downloaded a selection of stock and custom ICS roms to try with the process, hopefully something will do the trick!
Also I don't think changing router settings can have anything to do with this as it works fine for every other device I own, including a different handset running JB. However out of curiosity I spent last night playing with all the settings to see if anything would help. It didn't
U said u flashed back to stock.... In that case u lost cwm then ur gonna hafto re flash cwm

Problems with WiFi

I've been flashing ROMs for a few months now, and it's all gone relatively fine up till now. Yesterday I flashed the alpha 2.0 of Cyanogenmod 9 for our Desire X and like expected the WiFi didn't work. I then decided to go back to the deodexed stock ROM and flashed the stock recovery, and then wiped cache, data, dalvik etc. Before flashing the stock ROM.
I then went through set up to find that I didn't get prompted to set up WiFi and when I went into settings WiFi said 'Turning on...' but the toggle was greyed out. Anybody have any clue what may have gone wrong?
Cheers

In your stock kernel , you were missing WiFi modules. Atis112 kernel has modules built in, so it worked without issues .
