best kernel? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

which is the best kernel for x10i??

It depends on your bootloader if it's locked or unlocked

i recommend the Doomlord kernel.. so far its the best kernel for me..

The Kernel from ThJap is the best kernel for me
Doomlords kernel is not stable. I don't know why?
I tried oc and no oc version..

Someone should create a flow-chart,with stems for like locked or unlocked bootloader. Then you can quickly see where you can go.
It took me a bit of time going in a certain direction, only to find I had to go back and reinstall stuff because it wasnt recommended for kernel/roms.
And Im testing doomkernelv06-1113 with feralab7.2.

I recommend DooMKernel..for now, it is the best kernel I used..

[Q] Locked vs. Unlocked Bootloader

Why are some devices coming with locked bootloaders and others unlocked? All of the Google I/O devices seem to be unlocked, but I've read mixed things on retail devices. Some have locked bootloaders while others have unlocked ones.
Are the locked bootloaders unlockable?
If I understand correctly, devices with locked bootloaders can still obtain root, but the disadvantage is that custom kernels cannot be flashed. Is this a correct assumption?
The truth is nobody knows why some are locked and some are not. And as far as we know, the only way to unlock is by using signed keys from Samsung, which nobody has. As far as root and kernels are concerned, you are right. Locked bootloaders can be rooted, but the kernel cannot be switched out

Thanks for the info.
Can you define custom kernel? My Samsung captivate is locked but I can flash a miui or cm7 kernel as well as the European version kernel of my phone.
I'm locked on the tablet but I can flash pershoot kernel.
Still unsure the disadvantage of my locked bootloader

The only thing you can't do with a locked Tab is use nvflash. The bootloader boots unsigned kernels and initrds. The locked bootloader will even let you ODIN in your own recovery so you can flash unsigned zips.

Thanks! I figured out the nvflash the first day trying to root and then later tried to use supercurio kernel, it kept me from flashing. But since I was able to use odin to do everything else and get CWM, I saw no disadvantage.
If I were take supercurio kernel and build it so its zipped for CWM, I can flash the kernel or am I missing the point?

If you use an unlocked padlock during bootup then you are unlocked. If nothing shows up, your locked.

for the previous version of the tab there was an app developed from rotohammer that would tell you if the bootloader was locked or not. not sure about the 10.1.
I don't think the padlock thing apply to it though... Maybe someone else here has a better answer.
That patch will not work on Galaxy Tab 10.1 ,
I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 , in which i want to flash a customized kernel (downloaded the source code from opensource.samsung.com) but my bootloader is locked , and I am not even able to get the backup of my kernel image with the help SGS Kernel flasher, does all this because of locked bootloader ?
Any one have any idea how i should proceed to unlock my Tab and flashed custom kernel ?

overclocking possible on shipped kernel?

just curious...

i would be surprised to see the manufacturer ship a device with an overclockable kernel .. generally they wont as they're afraid of people damaging the device by overclocking too high and having to replace the device under warranty.
but, if you wanted to use a manual process..heres a rough start:
a great place to start is in /sysfs under each, cpu0 and cpu1, should have some files you can echo to ...
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq
and /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq
we have two cuz we're dual core!! yay!
a great guide to read through before experimenting: http://radagast.bglug.ca/epia/epia_howto/x968.html

The Bootloader Unlock tool doesn't root your phone. It also doesn't give you S-OFF so you can't flash a custom recovery or root using the unlock tool. Revolutionary is the way to go if you want a custom recovery, root, ROM, kernel, etc.
Did everyone forget we overclocked before s-off?

It was done once I'm sure it can be done again as long as you at least have a temp root solution.

[Q] How to Overclock evo3d

I updated my Evo 3D to newest HTC Update 2.3.4 then unlocked bootloader and then rooted. I have Set CPU downloaded but unable to overclock. Can anyone help me explain how to overclock? Do I need to install a new kernal?
Yea you need a kernel like silverneedle, no lights and RCMIX.

Oops I didn't read that, currently there aren't any kernels for 2.3.4 that are overclockable, not until the source is released. If you want to over clock you'll need a 2.3.3.ROM and kernel.
Does anyone know of a kernal that will overclock or a ROM that will with updated EVO 3d unlocked rooted with stock OS 2.3.4? If you do I will donate. Also is there a hack that I can install for EVO hotspot built in. I have it on my EVO4g but not evo3d

On 2.3.4 you'll need to wait for the source to be released, you could try some wifi tethering apps from the market.

A even if you find one, you won't be able to flash it as HTC's (im assuming thats the one you used as you are 2.3.4) unlock method is half done and only lets you flash roms and other things, but not a kernel. This has been confirmed in other threads. So, like me, you're screwed if you want to overclock until a new revolutionary is released.

He may have flashed the update as a new ROM without updating the bootloader. Still had revolutionary and full root.

Wat?
I (like mostly everyone that has had the phone for a while, and can read) have full root, running a 2.34 rom, revolutionary unlock, TWRP recovery, blah, blah, blah.
Doesn't have anything to do with having to use HTC's unlock.

[Q] Is any ICS or JB to install with 2.3.5 locked Bootloader?

I wouls like to install ICS or JB on my Photon.
However, it is 2.3.5 locked BL.
Any version that works with that ?
Thanks
It can't happen. With a locked bootloader you can only use the stock kernel.
why ? My friend have a DROID 3 running ICS

until an unlocked bootloader is leaked from motorola or someone can find a work around. you will never be able to flash anything other than a stock rom. i think everyone has given up on unlocking the bootloader. the electrify has had a locked bootloader for a year and still nothing. so don't expect anything soon if ever. sorry. :crying:
