assuming the nook for android app works on cm7, then yeah it should work...

I haven't been able to access the B&N store on my CM7 (alpha) Nook.

Also of note, if you own comics/graphic novels from B&N, I don't think they're supported on other devices (at least not on my PC or iPod touch).

Someone in development section mentioned that if you remove with ADB rm-r the B&N folder from scard the nook app works, at list that solution worked for first alpha but you can give it a try.

Same for me no issue. However, I was reading sideloaded books from my sdcard using the BN reader (I do have to say though, I preferred the reader from the stock tablet versus the app version. There was a lot more setting available. Also, there was a built in dictionary. Using the app from what I could tell they wanted you to buy the $15.00 Webster Dictionary.) That would be the only item I wish we could have retained in the CM7 Rom is the Library and Reader from Stock. I am getting used to Aidiko. I have never bought any material from BN except the tablet. Which now I can happily say can't be really called a BN tablet. It should be rename the "B-Team Tablet" ....

The B&N app from the market works to purchase and read books from B&N. If I put my own books in /sdcard/nook/my documents I can read access them as well. The only things that do not work as far as I know are magazines and the obvious instore stuff.

Ugh. That be a deal breaker for me as I subscribe to Sports Illustrated via B&N. Guess I could get it from Amazon and read via the Kindle app but would have to see if it reads/looks as well as with the B&N reader. For now I'll stick to using a rooted 1.4.0.

Flashed CM7 this weekend. I downloaded the B&N apk and I was able to see my subscriptioin to my discover mag no problem. It downloaded and even had the artical view choice. I will say the font was not as big as the native app but it was fine. So no problem with mags on my end.
hope that helps.

Some subscriptions work, some don't. My Time and Wired subscriptions don't work (error: not available on this device) with the Market version of the Nook reader.

NOOK for Android by B&N apk 2.7.2.12 (download link here)

I live in Canada and the latest NOOK for Android apk is not available for us for download.
It would be greatly appreciated if someone could back up their version and post a copy here.
Thanks.
Nothin?

I won't be at my computer until the evening tomorrow but then I'll see what I can do.

Does it even work outside the states? I would figure if you can't get it in market then you might have some login problems. I might be wrong though

It works once you've set up a B&N account.
Not sure but some books may not be available to people outside the US. So far I haven't had a problem.
I have relatives in the US who have Nook Color's and Touch's so I can share books from their libraries.
thanks for uploading this. Yes, it works outside US.
Even though the app is horrible, slow and featureless , it uses the same page number as my nook so its my only option to avoid the pain of figure out page numbers between devices.
Can anyone search in the store I can when I click the serch button nothing happens

Market Enabler?
Can't you just fake your provider to Verizon or something using Market Enabler and then find it in the Market? That's what I do.
giant_rider,
How did you manage to install the apk?
I copied it to an SD card and also copied it to an internal folder.
Both times when I tried to run it, I got a parse error.
Same thing happened with another ereader I attempted to run.
MickeyBear, I downloaded the file using Opera Mini and has the same file corruption problem. It works when I re-download on the desktop and uploaded to my Dropbox.
Does anyone have this issue with the newest version (3.0.1) of the Nook app crashing when you try to open a magazine or a book?
I'm running CM 7.1 Final.

I'm in the US and need it, too! With my stock rooted NOOKcolor 1.4.1, downloads don't work from the Market or BN.

Thanks! It downloaded and installed fine, but when I launch it, it just goes back to my home screen. Maybe it isn't intended to work on a stock rooted NOOK... Bummer! Thought it might be a way to get access to my BN subscriptions until the issues with downloads from BN Shop and Market are resolved. Oh, well! Thanks for the quick response!
Switching to Kindle for Android is perhaps the best solution if you want to buy e-books, but magazines like The New Yorker display great on the plain Nook with 1.4.1. I would buy some stuff from B&N, but if I can't install third party apps I prefer to go with another rom from SD and without the B&N reader for Android. Bye bye NOOK-Book-eBook-store...

Almost all working except...

I have almost everything working now on my rooted tablet with the GoLauncher.
After a lot of effort, I got the SlideIT keyboard installed and working.
But, The Nook Reader (from the Market) does not work. I can access a reader that works on my B&N books by going through Library, opening the book, and then using "Reader" to read it. But I can't find "Reader" in the app list to make a direct access to it on my GoLauncher desktop. Reader.apk is also in /system/app. Is it the Nook viewer? When I start that, it does nothing.
Similarly, QuickOffice_Viewer.apk is installed in /system/app, but I don't see it in my app list.
Is there a way to turn on wifi location services?
Also, in the Android Market, many many apps are listed as being incompatible with the Nook Tablet, even though they work on my Color Nook (albeit with CyanogenMod). For example, the free angry birds, which works perfectly on the NT when I moved it from my NC. And I had to get Evernote and LastPass from the B&N market.
Finally, the Nook Tablet suffers from the same anaemic maximum volume as the NC did. Nook Color Tweaks fixes the problem on my NC, but does not work on the NT. Does anyone know some other way to goose up the volume settings? The inbuilt controls are maximized.
Personally I havent found a way to get reader to work other than the way described by yourself.
As far as I know the "incompatible" apps thing is due to the ppi being 169 rather than a more common 160. Rather than changing it, I have just found it easier to copy things from one of my other android devices. Or you can see if the items in question are in the Amazon Appstore.
Currently the only way I know of to get the volume up is with a paid app...that I cant seem to recall the name of. If you search the forums for it I'm sure you'll find it.

Thats the app i was talking about, thought it was paid only. Guess I've been proven wrong on that front, which is a good thing .
The Android Market says Volume+ is not compatible with The NT. I installed it my NC, but I can't find where the apk is installed, to grab it.
What is it called, and where is it installed to?

[Q] NOOK for Android by B&N app

I rooted my NT a couple of weeks ago using Indirect's method, I also did the OTA block. I've thought about re-rooting to delete the bloatware, but still want to be able to access the B&N store as I do like to read and to be able to purchase more e-books. I tried installing the lastest NOOK for Android by B&N app from the Android Market, but it won't open - I see the icon in my launcher, but nothing happens when I touch it. Anybody have any thoughts?
Had no problems doing this with my NC w/ CM7 - hoping that somebody figures that out soon for the NT
Thanks ~ G
You don't need the Nook for Android app, as the stock reader/store does the same thing.
I'm also fairly certain that the nook app itself doesn't work (probably by design) on the NT, since you have the default reader/store.

I tried to install the Nook app and it doesn't work for me either.
Blocking the update broke my B&N store. I used the method that said the store will not be affected. I was already a customer at the B&N store and wanted to continue to buy things, but B&N is making this way too difficult.
I too have the same problem. After rooting and preventing updates, I am unable to connect to B&N. Anyone have any suggestions to solve this problem?

Can't use B&N Store

My roomie has a Nook Tablet, which I rooted for him back in Dec, and has no way of accessing his books/purchases through the B&N Launcher or through the B&N app from the market. When he enters the store, nothing is shown. It's still running 1.4.0 and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the issue might be. Thanks in advance
Anyone? lol

Have you tried logging in to your nook account on the B&N website?
(Click on My Nook at the top and login. You should confirm that B&N sees and acknowledges your content on their servers.)
Then, assuming your purchased content is known to B&N, click on Manage My NOOK link and you should see your device listed. (And can match serial #s)
Perhaps your roomie created two B&N accounts with different email addresses?
You should deregister your device and re-register it using the same username and password that you used on the B&N website.
I rooted in December and kept the B&N stuff as well as the straight Android. B&N worked and one the straight Android I downloawed the app and it also worked. Now I'm running CM7 fro SD card and B&N app still works. I have my purchases, and can buy books for download. Placemarks also update to my simple touch when I want something a little lighter to read.
Are you sure your account is still active and you are registered?

Degistering SHOULD only impact the B&N content. If you were to take the NT back to stock with a full-on reset, that would be a different matter.
in a perfect world, database records ( proof of purchase ) don't disappear . . . and so then 'what you bought' stays. B&N has one 'BIG' advantage over amazon in that they have a 'brick & mortar' presence. so, you can walk in and be 'face to face' with customer support. hmmm ?
I just ran into this problem with my B&N purchases. Neither the stock B&N reader nor the download "see's" my purchases though they have my credit card number correct.
I checked and B&N does have my Nook registers. Luckily I don't have many books from B&N, most are from Amazon.
Since I'm rooted I won't be walking into the B&N to have them check it out.....

Just a shot in the dark at you... Use CWM to make a full backup, then unroot the device by again using CWM to flash back a stock ROM Image, allow it to upgrade to 1.4.2 then use the v4.6 rooting method mentioned in the FAQ / Tips and Tricks thread over in the General Nook Tablet forum. But make sure you register and verify you can download content BEFORE you apply the root. If you can't even on.stock ROM take it to B&N to get some answers.
I woudn't recommend get the 1.4.2 its not worthy for me. 1.4.0 has no sideload issues and you have the freedom to sideload in many ways.
There are quite some workarounds about this problem.
1st: You need to be registered in your nook to B&N services
2nd: if you have applied OTA block then try wiping the data of DeviceManagerService 2.3.4 app (you can use titanium backup for this)
3th: Reboot your device and try downloading something if it success then freeze DeviceManagerService 2.3.4 once done so you don't get the update and unfreeze when you want to download from B&N store again
NOTE: freezing DeviceManagerService 2.3.4 is not probed to be a 100% working solution and not sure if it will avoid updates like stock 1.4.2 and it is why is recommended to always make a backup in clockworkmod (CWM) because you may or may not needed in a future.
4th: if there is still not success downloading from B&N store could be for different reasons:
a. the root method you used
b. the modified stock rom you installed
c. if you for any other reasons than OTA block get unavailable under "About your NOOK"
d. if you have soft-bricked your device before and used Adam Outler total wipe or other method that removed your original serial ID's that will cause errors when trying to register to B&N service in your NT.

With full root availible for v1.4.2 why not use the latest version? I mean, side loading works just fine after the device is rooted, I do it all the time. Are there issues that I am unaware of?
Quick update with the B&N issue...I ended up installing CM7 internally and downloading the B&N app and it worked fine. My library is updating again.

How to install apps?

I´ve just got my Nook Tablet and I´ve created my account. I´ve coppied a moboplayer, firefox and solid explorer APKs to the SD card but when I try to view these files on the system browser they don´t show up. Also, I cannot find the play store anywhere.
The question is how do I install these apps?
- gmail
- moboplayer
- firefox
- solid explorer
- some launcher that reproduces the standard android buttoms (back, home, etc)
If you take the time to read the forum quides you will be able to.
1st: You have to root.
Oh, how I miss that days of the one click root.
I can already see that the latest firefox version is not compatible with the stock nook tablet (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735861)
I´m guessing the AppMenu apk won´t work either unless it´s rooted, right.

You need to use the external sd card root method. After that you will be able to get the full google store gmail etc. Some apps in the store might say not compatible, if that happens google the (app name) .apk, download, and install package. I also recomend having home manager/quick switcher and installing another launcher ( go launcher or adw launcher) then you will have one screen native b&n nook home and another that is an android tablet.
Sent from my BNTV250 using xda premium
Pretty much what everyone else said: need to root first, then using the tablet, try to download and install, "NTHiddenSettings" and Nook will prompt you to enable external install
Make sure you read all the instructions and warnings prior to attempting any modifications, as it does technically void warranty.
That said, the root tools on this forum are effective and have really helped unlock the potential of my Tablet.
If you don't want to root then use Cwm7 on sdcard. You pretty much have a straightforward racket w/o camera.
I'be done both though right now have the internal cm7.

And do a little research on the brand and speed of the SD Card too. Some work great, some don't.
Old darts right. it seems that My does play well with class 10cards and sometimes Sandisk. Most people seem to do better with class 4 cards.
