Hello,
I have an AT&T USA branded X10a that I want to use on T-Mobile USA. I've tried purchasing two unlock codes from various vendors on eBay and both replied that they were unable to find a code for my IMEI. I've also tried calling AT&T and they as well said they could not find the code for my IMEI.
At this point, I think I'm restricted to a software solution? I've heard of setool but am unsure of how it works. How do I buy/use it?
maybe you could find throw "search" fuction

I have tried searching before, there isn't one clear thread that has specific instructions, only obscure references if anything.
Do you have a specific thread to refer to? I'm looking for a simple answer here..

Yes, my X10 is already rooted with a custom ROM that works on a locked bootloader. I don't care about unlocking my bootloader, but want to network unlock the phone so I can use it with other carriers.
Thanks anyways though!

You should probably look on eBay for unlock codes; they should only be a few bucks. Probably better to go with simple mobile though as it is a T-Mobile VMNO and since the X10a doesn't have the 1700 MHz band to utilize 3G, the 119 kiloBITS per second that the lying bastards at simple mobile consider 3G will work as well as what you would be able to recieve on T-Mobile itself with Edge(2G+). Actually I have gotten about 127 Kbits/sec on Edge through T-mobile. But simple mobile is $40/month for unlimited 119 Kbits/sec. Plus you can get a sim card for a buck on eBay as well. I Really, Really Dislike simple mobiles unethical practices, but for you it might be a good way to go.

The thing is I've already tried purchasing from eBay resellers, and as stated on the first post they could not find the code, and not even at&t can which leads me to believe that the code option isn't an option for me.. which is why I'm looking into a cable option.

Hey everyone!
So I have xperia x10 that is a prototype, and i've been searching the whole web to find a solution on how to unlock this device but no luck so far.
The phone is fully functional, it even has an android 2.1 installed, except the sim service, when i insert a sim card it asks me for an unlock code.
This is what it says on the back of the phone under the battery:
Type: AAD-388056-BV CB5
Prototype not for sale MoP XXXX-XXXX.RR
Not type approved Prototype build: AP1

So i would really appreciate your help, is there any way to unlock this phone, maybe by flashing the device or just by entering some code?
I'm a total noob about this, thanx for any answers you might have.

Hi,
the prototype should still have Android 1.6.
Please have a look at a similar request & solution here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881026
*EDIT*
Easiest would be rooting with z4root (runs on 1.6), install root explorer and change the CDF in the build.prop to 1235-7836 (custom DE/CH).
After that upgrade via SEUS / PC companion. That´s what I´ve done and can confirm was working for me.
Maybe you want to try out your preferred CDF, but please, in any case don´t blame us, if you brick your phone.

We can give it a shot with the CSCA activation dongle.
Contact me by PM.
ferraripassion is your only help (well, plus other people with high access + a CSCA dongle). XPERIA phones can only be unlocked using original SE tools, or by code. But remeber that when unlocking using dongle, the dongle leaves it's signature in the checksums hence software unlock is not public.
Well I have already contacted the davinci team, they said that they had success with retrieving codes for prototypes in the past, so I'm gonna try their method first and see if maybe just typing in the code is a solution. Thanx everyone for your help, im gonna post a result as soon as davinci team cracks the code.
Remember, you only get three tries .
Hello,
I've just been offered a good deal on this phone.
It's locked to orange and I'm with 3. How easy/expensive would it be to have it unlocked?
Thank you.
I tried searching but just got bootloader unlock info, and I'm not sure if it's the same thing.
Also is it a good phone?

Ok thanks, so it isn't possible to unlock it myself via rooting etc?
The phone is costing me £104 delivered.
Cheers.
Ok so I've now bought this phone.
I've found a guy on ebay that can unlock it for £30 and takes around 1 week to get my code.
I just wanted to check there wasn't a cheaper/faster option before I clicked 'buy it now'?
Thank you.
Have you tried flashing a custom rom?
There is a very good version of CM on XDA now, with CM 7.2 (FX108).
I was told flashing a custom rom wouldn't make it sim free?
Is this not the case?
Thanks.

Sorry guys for this but i have a problem.Instead of sk17i prerooted rom i flash st17i rom via cmw and now i am stuck at se logo.what do i have to do now? Please help me.
Hello
Just purchased a SK17i Xperia Mini Pro Black Version that is locked to 02 (UK network). I am obvously new to all this stuff but do have a basic understanding but here are some questions:
1) I am thinking of waiting until Android 4.0 is Officially released by SE to update my phone (btw, anyone know when the update is coming). Was wondering when I update will I still be able to root my phone?
2) When I root (if I can) I want to install Set CPU to overclock my phone. However I have heard this drains batteries? Is this true and if so how can I make my phone faster?
3) I need to unlock my phone. Can this be done for free after rooting? If not, can someone link me to the cheapest place I can get this unlocked from?
Thanks in advance to anyone that answers
Hey dude,welcome to XMP family.
1)According to Xperia Blog,XMP will get the ICS update in the end of May or early June, after the first wave for arcS,neoV and ray.I don't know whether we can root it on official ICS or not,but I think to get a rooted phone is easy once you unlock the bootloader, and besides, there are so many developers here.
2)When it comes to overclocking, apparently it would cause battery drain faster. But with my experience,I hardly feel its difference on SE stock Rom.As for custom rom like FXP's,which I has used for a while,it drains about 2~3% per hour while idle(drop speed is two times than stock.)
3)Certainly you can unlock your phone for free, see this thread & tutorial. But it should be noticed that once you unlock it then you may invalidate your warranty.
Mine is on FXP CM9(ICS) and it's kind of laggy, but I can't tell it's because of the ICS rom or existed bugs.As SE said,we may not have the same experience like Gingerbread if we update to ICS.

Hello mate, thanks for the great post
I think I will leave stock ROM once updated actually, seems to be running fine atm as it is.
I think I will still update to the official ICS when it comes out as does look worth it.
Just about no. 3) I think your talking about after rooting, the process to get custom ROMs by unlocking the bootloader? I was talking about the network? lol
Unless I'm mistaken?

There is no way to get your phone unlocked from a network for free but WontanServer offers an unlocking for $15. You can try that out. Just type WontanServer in Google and click the 1st link. WontanServer is legit and won't steal your money
Though as a warning you might not be able to update to ICS as it also might unlock your bootloader. Just double check, as I am not 100% sure. Also it will void your warranty

He meant that the Wotanserver network-unlock method might unlock your bootloader (which it does). This bootloader unlock, whilst giving you access to custom ROMs etc, might not behave with official SONY updates (such as ICS) - I'd link you for proof but I'm not allowed to due to my low post count .
Also, Google 'Omnius Unlock'. They will unlock your phone for free over the next few days (Easter promotion). I'm not sure how reputable those guys are though so you'll want to check.
Thanks for that Omnius Lock thing, looks great and will check it out
So, if I unlock it I may be unable to upgrade to 4.0? That is a bit stupid to say the least? Anyone on an Xperia that was unlocked then ugraded to 4.0? Did it become locked again?

If your phone's bootloader is unlocked you can not recieve any official update through Sony as it will brick your phone but you can install a ICS ROM.

Well I'm not sure about 'stupid', you'll have to weigh it up. If you look in the development section, there's already a very useable version of ICS (look for MiniCMSanwich), which is potentially better than Sony's bloatware-infused and themed version (not to mention probably unrootable) due in a couple of months.
I think it's mainly FOTA bricks that happen (over-the air updating from Sony), and some bootloader unlocks allow for this by just patching the bootloader to make it seem unlocked (any SETool unlock will do this). So there are a number of options.
Be careful also of some bootloader methods stripping the DRM keys, these are used by Sony services like TrackID, which will cease to work (permanently) following a bootloader unlock.
Edit: There's a distinct difference between a network unlock and a bootloader unlock, the former will nearly always also execute the latter, but the latter can be done by itself (obviously only on unbranded phones). The method of getting a custom ROM is basically network unlock > bootloader unlock > root > install custom kernel > install custom ROM. Root can be done before the unlocks, I believe.
I'm new to all this too, only trying to explain because I know how much of a total pain it was to work it all out .

It is the same unlock method, just everything brought to one place by that app maker.
Rooting your phone before custom ROM installation is not needed, because old ROM(stock) gets deleted anyway and custom ROMs include root already.

I would certainly donate to some Dev to crack this problem for good. If it can be done by CSCA Server than is just some service mode and software changes.
That or find some loophole to flash kernels into the phone, security blocks for that are so hard or complex that no one can break them ?!

You cant unlock your bootloader this way, infact you cant do it with a pc at all. What you need to do is have your phone sim unlocked by your carrier, then take your phone to a sony service center and tell them that your phone is now sim unlocked and you want them to unlock your bootloader. This is the only way to do it.

But I dont know if sony will then unlock your bootloader as it wasnt done by your carrier. Thats if they can tell i dont know much about it so not sure. check this thread http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/40526
