Nice little read and very well written. Have you had any issues with it dying on you? What about multitasking? Fiddly?

Well, thanks. Well, multitasking its really good, but some apps really use lot of RAM, so you may see some stuttering once a while. If I understood, the phone will be for your wife. Try asking her permission to root and remove some bloatware she may not use. About dying, I was kinda surprised, sometimes it stopped working and I had to reset it. I'm not sure if it was my fault of heavy usage or its some problem with it. But, if she is like most users, she will use it for some browsing, calls messages and Facebook, the phone is great. Loud and clear calls. I heavily recommend it

Sweet! thanks Felimenta97
funny my wife has a sensation and thinks my xs is ugly, typical woman lol!
to compare the 2 (both rooted on ics) i find the xs much quicker and smoother, the screen is amazing. camera not many features but picture quality is brilliant.
the only negatives, for me, about the xs are the non physical buttons take a bit of getting used to (no problem now), the power / screen lock button is in a ridiculous position (screen off & lock app solves half the problem) and because of the size of the screen not always easy to reach far corners one handed.
also battery life is slightly worse than sensation, not a huge difference, but noticeable.
so maybe take her to a store see if she likes the feel of it, because performance wise it is an amazing phone.

No need. Of course they need to be clean, but that doesn't mean you have to wash your hands everytime you will pick up the phone. If you (or she) want to do a quick clean, make your shirt a little "humid" and clean the back of the phone. Once a while, use a soft cloth.

So far I have see those problems and those make me think twice before buy it.
1- getting too hot easily. Not only when recording 4k videos some users find it getting too hot while browsing Internet. That's not acceptable. I don't want it to be blown off in my hand.
2- screen is dim. I thought that's since I watch the videos on YouTube. Other phones such as samsung s5 and HTC One m8 has got a lot brighter screen. If it is sunny you can see your phone screen that's not good for people especially in hot countries.
3- gap issues. I don't know if this is a big issue but still shouldn't be like that.
4- speakers. So people are happy some people are not. Some people are having issue with income calls they say it's not loud enough and only one speaker works.
Those are so far I can remember/told by people here. Maybe that's why it's been delayed for release who knows.
Do you guys have any other issues with the phone? Please let us know £550 for pay as you go phone is a lot of money I don't wanna regret after I buy it.

1..... All phones these days get warm when in use, id be more concerned if it wasnt heating up, as for the 4k recording it doesnt bother me too much, its not a feature ill be using anytime soon and im assuming the related software can be fine tuned and updated by sony so it doesnt strain the processor as much
2......Im in great britain so not the sunniest place but weather was quite bright over easter weekend and i had no issues seeing the screen outside
3......As long as its not affecting the water resistance, who cares. If in doubt either treat it like any other phone near water or get it tested by sony
4......Speakers im 50/50 on.... the sound is crisp and clear, just not as loud as other phones. The sound is supposed to be mono on an incoming call, it also cuts to one speaker on my blutooth speakers and on my galaxy if i have headphones in and recieve a call the right earphone cuts out

You don't care about gaps?

yep id definately be concerned if it didnt heat up while im using it, just about every electrical item i own heats up when in use, if it doesnt then its probably not working properly.......
I dont mind gaps...... as long as they dont affect the waterproofing, my z2 appears to have a couple of (extremely small, less than 1mm) gaps, but im not about hide it away in shame or demand an exchange for a cosmetically perfect handset.......... unless of course they cause the phone to die a watery death, but i doubt that
and finally i'll stick with my overall opinion of the speakers, but as for the one speaker dropping out ignore anything i said, i was mistaking what you was on about with something else.... my bad lol
I have just received my z2 this morning - opened the box and found the phones back glass panel is raised above the edge of the phone in one corner by 1mm or so.. from the Power button to the bottom corner.
It spoils the whole feel of the phone as its easy to catch the glass.. I imagine its going to get damaged quickly
So I now have to contact company I got it from to arrange a swap, or send it off to Sony.. probably at my own expense.
Premium phone and price with not so premium build quality.. This should never have passed Quality Control.

give it back to place you bought. do not give a single penny for returning it. its not your fault and it is not supposed to come out from your pocket. do not get it fixed get a brand new one.
faulty phones make me think again why the z2 is postponed so many weeks ahead. there is definitely something wrong with this phone in one point. overheating, out of shape design, gaps on the top of the device, speakers etc.

Do you think they would have solved all these problems by the start of May (which is when most people get their phone)? If not then all these delays would have been a complete waste of time...

Start of may is not guaranteed for release. Some companies giving date for 24th of may. Hope everybody will be happy at the end of the day but Sony is not doing well so far. Postpone is a really bad start and faulty phones comes up after waiting months or weeks is more disappointing. If you are not ready for launch do not announce your phone.

Oh man there are a lot more problems than I thought. People complaning to Sony directly instead of telling people here . I think Im right with my opinion never buy a newly released phone there are always problems at some point. Wait a month or so and get them after. My wife bought newly s4 when it was out the phone was getting far too hot she was scared to use it cos it might blow off on her hand. we complained and got a brand new one which is okay. All my old iphones were the same some had sound problem some had glass problem.
It seems that Sony were in so much of a rush to assemble the phones to get them 'out there' that quality control suffered big time.
Am gonna make sure that mine is perfect before keeping it even if it means returning it time after time.
Am hoping all of these build issues are solved when its officially released in May

Hey,
I was consider to get the HTC One M8 but then I came across the Sony Xperia Z2. I was looking at the feature set of both. I went and got a feel of both the devices. My only real concern that came about would be the development aspect of the Z2. I love to tweak around with my phones.
The other issue that hit me is the speakers on the Z2. I havent had a chance to play with the Z2 in the sound department but I did have a chance with the HTC One M8. Does the speakers feel good to listen to?
Any thoughts would be helpful
Well opinion wise on the Z2 , the speakers arent perfect but thats because of the fact the phone is waterproof, everything else is amazing
Development has started slow for Z2 alike most xperias, give it a couple months for it too speed up, we already have official CM11 and TWRP, there should be more to come
And not to mention all mods for 4.4 will most likely work on other xperias
(this does disinclude kernels and roms)

I have both devices i think that the M8 is better in design and the sound quality is better both speakers and earplugs wise.
The camera on the Z2 is waaaaaaayyy better then the M8 and i personally think that the system ui is better as well i am not a fan of sense it just to heavy.
And custom development always takes a tad longer on sony devices. I've had both devices and i'm still not sure which one is better .....:silly:
i have z2 and love it. Overall i feel m8 is great but z2 has a slight edge in all departments other than sound. Sound is awesome on z2 but m8 is better.
Sent From My Nexus 5 Stock 4.4.3 ART
If you want a single device for all your needs go for Z2.
Want only a smartphone and have a separate professional camera? Go for M8.
Here's a comparison video :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKCgqeVdZ3w
Well as far as I see. The sony xperia has a pretty gud feature set. I know the development is a wee bit slow. But considering the fact, I think I just might go for the Z2.
I haven't got a chance to play with M8 but I have had M7 for 5 days before I decided to sell it and married Sony Z2.
Originally, I came from Apple 5s and to be honest the camera on HTC One M7 was horrible. I went out for a persimmon picking trip and I took my brandnew HTC M7 for photo shooting and I was shocked by the photo quality, blueish, dark, blrury and incorrect colour. Even my gf was shocked with my new toy's camera performance. Overall HTC was a good phone, sleek design, study and iron cold feeling, nice and sharp screen and beautiful UI. But after I sold my HTC M7 and bought the Sony Z2 and I must say it is one of the best phone I have even owned. Fast, beautiful scree large screen, simpe UI and super long lasting battery. I am a heavy user and apple 5s could not keep up with me as long as Sony Z2. Anyway, from Apply 5S -> HTC M7 -> Sony Z2, I am really happy to stay with Sony for a long time. And it is my first Sony device I have ever used since I was born ...lol
Hey all, I have the same dillema.
I have just sold my Note 3 and want something smaller and with a capable camera, very good sound quality on speakerphone while on skype and normal calls.
In the last aspect my previous HTC M7 was the best however it's camera was unacceptable, especially in very bright sun light...
To be honest I don't know why I am even considering the M8 because of the camera, but I guess I have the sentiment for the previous one.
Anyway, my biggest concern with Z2 is overheating. I went to Vodafone shop and turned on the Camera app to see how the phone behaves. Within 1-2 minutes it got noticably warm, just because the screen and app was on...
How widespread do you think the overheating problem is? Logically speaking, if something is sealed very well for water not getting in, than it must be not so great with heat dissapation... Unless it is made of aluminum...
I don't want a camera phone having a camera which I cannot use because of overheating...
Also, is it difficult to flash stock firmware over branded one, with sim lock present? Does the phone need to be unlocked?

The one you tried in vodafone store was probably on for whole day i.e., screen, speaker, demo... therefore it was already hot prior your camera shooting trial. I have no problem with my device. Trust me HTC M7 heat problem is a lot worse due to its metal case. Sony used combine materials including plastic, glass and aluminum therefore heat is not as bad as metal housing in general.
Worst case scenario, it is waterproof so just give it a shower, will help to reduce heat issue
Feels like I might just get the Z2. Ijust have the issue of the dev community for the device. Since its a new device, I have a feeling that the dev community will be strong but that we shall see.
Plus me getting the Z2 depends on my stupid carrier keeping it in stock xD. They released the device here and with 2 days all the carriers ran out of stock. So lets hope I get my hands one xD
I think I answered this question to myself...
Until Sony fixes the overheating problem (provided it can be addressed through software and it is not the hardware at fault), I will not get this phone.
I went to Vodafone Ireland store close by and put the phone to test. I started the camera app and launched 4k video and left it going, while I was playing with HTC M8 and Galaxy S5 (ugly phone and the same design all over again...)...
Well, after around 5 minutes I got the overheating message... Keep in mind when I started playing with the phone it was cold (no one playing with it, screen off)... The temperature now is around 20-22 idle.
Ok, I thought, It can be forgiven as I do not give a damn about 4k... So after it crashed and took me to the screen, I opened photo app again and managed to take 4 pictures before I got the message again and when the app force closed... After 10 seconds I did the same and the same story...
All I managed was to laugh out loud, while playing with the HTC camera and having its chasis still cold, and I just left the store...
Those temperatures cannot be good for any internals inside, especially the battery. I can bet Z2 users will have their batteries deteriorated significantly by the end of this year, if they use it as GPS nav, gaming devices or... Just as a camera...
RIDICULOUS... But I guess I will be tracking the forums and see if any of the firmwares fixes the problem, if not, I will wait patiently for Q3 phones this year as there is nothing that ticks my boxes at the moment.
Thanks.

Camera is set to shutdown at 65c cpu temp, which is nothing in todays technology. So no, it wont affect battery or something else. Also what do you expect, you make 4k recording, turn temperatures to hell and then take pictures, outcome clear to me. If you start by taking pictures that wont happen. And m8 is not a factor here, its probably imposible to make any smartphone overheat by taking 4mpixel photos lol.

No offence here but really you buy a smartphone just to shoot 4K?
So I just got my z2. YAY!!!!
Sad part is that I didn't get the noise cancelling ear buds. #WelcomeToTheMiddleEast
On the other hand. I just love the feel of the device. It just feels right. The aluminum and glass feel just perfect. It's feels a bit more premium than the M8 imo.
Problems. The device heats up. But tbh I live in a hot country so it really doesn't matter XD. The heat is more towards the top part and the device just heated up when I cranked the brightness high and started recording 4k video(Which I doubt I shall ever use in the near future)
Now all I got to do is get a case and a screen protector so that I don't destroy it in my rough daily use
Hope my short review helped anyone

Can you do a test for me, please?
Could you actively use the phone for a while (say 3g browsing or wifi) so that it becomes warm at the back, and once it gets warm, can you open the camera app and try to record 3-5 minute hd video or take at least 10 pictures in the row?
I am wondering if you get the warning message.
I just sold my M8 and ordered the Z2, I'm excited, I hope it was worth it!

Okay so I tried that. And nothing much happened. It just got a bit hot. like it wasnt that hot. Keep in mind I tried this indoors when the air-conditioning was on was thats something.
I live in a hot country where temperatures can reach 40+ Celsius or 100+ Fahrenheit but still I dont find the phone to be that hot. It does become hot ever so slightly but thats expected.

I was inclined to the M8 in the beginning but now I feel this device is better in terms of hardware as compared to Sony.
Development is real slow but thats expect from Sony devices. As far as stock goes, Its not bad but can definitely be improved. Sony actually did a really amazing job with the software.
Believe me you will love the Z2

That is the thing, the phone is not expected to get hot when doing not so really intensive tasks like browsing, downloading, or recording hd video/taking pictures... I had Galaxy S 1, 2, HTC One, Note 3, played with M8, Galaxy S5 and those phones only get "warm" when sat nav or comparable heavy task...
If your phone gets very warm at home with AC on, than what do you expect will happen when you try to use it outside at 35 degrees in your country?
Nothing like this would happen with any other competition's phone, seriously... It must be a design flaw, those problems were present with previous Z's as well if my memory serves me right.
No, I don't care about 4k video recording, I would survive this overheating problem if the phone overheated only in this case, but overheating when taking pictures after doing some light intensive tasks? Unacceptable...
I am pretty certain it can survive for a long time. The thing that gets hot is the glass not the metal frame. And when it's hot it's not hot as in u touch and u r gonna burn yourself.

Here's a review and video of the OtterBox Defender for LG G3. Leave your questions and comments for me to answer.
If you like this video, subscribe to my YouTube channel for more videos like it
Video doesn't work for me even after subscribing to your YouTube...but I've had this case for about a week now and only issue with it was the screen protector,, it wasn't allowing me to scroll at times and wouldn't work to tap on somethings..like typing..removed the screen protector and all is good now..
Fits the phone perfectly unlike the defender case for the g2 where it didn't fit snuggly and the phone moved around alittle bit in the case..like it a lot for my g3..
Just got the video to play and just wanted to let you know that it does have the kick stand feature its just alittle harder to get it to snap into place
I've actually stopped using my case.... I just graduated school, and got a desk job. I leave my phone in my purse, and use 'mightytext' and just sent texts from my computer (so significantly less handling, since I work all day) and when I go home, I never use my phone when I'm cooking dinner, and after dinner, I either use mightytext when doing computer work at home, or when I'm laying on the couch watching tv, I feel pretty safe when it is on my cushions.
I rarely ever am in a situation when I'll drop my phone, as 90% of the time, I'm not even using it that much any more; and when I do use it, I'm not in motion.
And by the way, it feels so much better to not have a case. Just saying.

I was trying to mess with it a lot and couldn't get it to work. At least it does it have it though.

Yea, I like the feeling of a naked phone also. But I need to have some sort of protection for it.

Tell me that this is only because the phone is so new, but I'm concerned that there are hardly any people on this forum to date.
I have been trying to hunt for a video (I think) I saw on the LG G8X about setting it up to improve performance. E.g Transitions being turned off or down. I can't find it for the life of me.
It's these kinds of tips I've always come to XDA for in the past. I hope this popularity of this phone picks up. I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S9 and I have to say I'm very impressed with this phone. The dual screen is a bit bulky but my user case is for when I'm commuting a long journey on the train or any time I have my laptop bag with me
I know what you mean. I was looking around for tips and tricks yesterday for this phone. Ultimately, I'm going to return it. Coming from a V20 there are too many small things i just can't see myself ever getting used to.
These aren't really design flaws, the phone is great. I'm just very particular I guess and there were things i just didn't think about until i got the phone.
1. Too much work to answer a call.
2. If the phone is closed you can't use the flashlight or camera. Now I'm sure you could map the camera or flashlight to a button.
3. But, if you are using the main screen only while with the case the above applies too, you can't use the flashlight or camera. The other screen is in the way. I know this is a "well duh" but i didn't think about that issue until i started using the phone.
4. The screen is smaller and harder on my eyes than my v20. I'm getting older and dont wear bifocals so that is me not the phone. It's like this strange stretching on the UI is going on.
5. Using it without the case, I just don't like that screen size and shape. Its a downgrade from my V20.
Signal strength is great, easily beats my v20. And I actually love the slight chunkiness of the phone. It's not fat it's thhiiiicckk. It really isn't too thick as that thickness is from the case. Really enjoy so many other things about this phone from watching videos to taking photos to playing games. Battery life seemed fine for me.
I really want to keep this phone just for playing games on it, but i truly don't play mobile games much at all.
So, I'm sending it back and getting an unlocked V40.
I really commend lg though for pushing the boundaries. They innovate far more than people realize.
Hello, VS a V20? It looks so hard to trust about...
I will get mine in the next days.
Dual case definitely has its flaws and l in no limitations. Think about it this way though. Plenty of people face a book cover type case for their standard phones. Same issue! This way you get a second screen.
You can definitely map a key for the flash light

Don't get me wrong it's a sweet phone. It's more to do with how i use my phone day to day. I hope more people buy it and lg continues to innovate with the design.

It is the doubt... LG will trust on that this time?
Mah.... I should receive mine in days....!
just remembered XDA from a 4 year hiatas...
cant wait to root/rom my phone....
I'm loving this phone. Just as a phone on it's own it's a great improvement from the Galaxy s9. How it compares to other flagships, I can't say but why does it matter if this is going what I need.
I will see how the camera works as this may impact my opinion in the future.
