Yes of course. How else is the SU command in the terminal emulator going to go through?

I have the power menu but the lockscreen and home button dont work. I seem to be alone with this problem because everyone else reports that all 3 are missing. I've tried all of the keystr fixes uses root explorer or terminal emu and nothing has worked :/ I'm on CM9 if that makes a difference.
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

PLEASE HELP!!!!
I have the same issue and I have used terminal emu and nothing has worked. I have a SG SIII it has something to do with Titanium Backup as everything works find until i do a restore, I have to many apps to narrow it down to the one or two that are acting up.
Thanks in advanced.

Thanks mate helped me a lot! Friend's s2 somehow lost the keystr file after upgrade from factory default 2.3.4 to ICS XXLPW.
Worth mentioning that you can do the same through the adb shell if you can't/don't want to install from market.

when your phone restart. does it say in a quick fade in fade out msg that is it in factory mode?
if it does
use terminal emulator and type the commands. (worked perfect for me)
su
# echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
reboot

When I type in "su" it says "the selected command does not exist." Is that supposed to happen or is there something that i am missing?

su should be in small caps. Make sure you are rooted too
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Supercharged ParanoidAndroid 2.12
Dorimanx kernel 5.76B
GT I9100
Next phone: Galaxy NOTE II

Yea I rooted my phone by using this method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1501719
And I do put it in small caps but it still does not work. It says the same thing each and every time. But if I skip to the next command and type in echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr, it says that it is turned on.

Use this long step:
To fix scrren lock issue, do the following:
For ALL whoever are facing problems with the LOCK SCREEN here is the solution :
Tools Needed:
1. Root Explorer or Solid Explorer
Steps to restore:
1. Using root explorer locate the /efs/imei/ folder. In that folder there should be a file called keystr. In my case the file was missing which is why the lock screen was missing and was causing my problems.
2. using root explorer create a new file called keystr
3. also in root explorer open the file keystr in text editor and type ON
4. now go into hex editor and locate the /efs/imei/keystr file.
5. make sure you save the file.
6. reboot.

[Q] WiFi issue (unable to scan networks)

Hello every body...
when I turn on the WI-FI the massage appear Unable to Scan Networks Then the wi-fi turns itself off.
Help me please guys...
i would suggest reflashing the stock firmware with ODIN. I had an issue like this on my Nexus One. Nothing helped. I had to fully wipe the phone and start over.
I found it :
since you're rooted, go to /data/wifi/ and delete bcm_supp.conf (back it up first just in case). Then reboot your phone.

Awesome! Many thanks for the tip! You've made my day! That file's gotta be deleted from time to time, as it can get quite clogged. (And when you think I could've re-flashed my phone as per the previous post...!)
I having the same problem as this. after i removed and re entered my wifi login. also i had been on holiday and logged into a few other wifi routers.
when i re entered my home wifi it just kept turning off and saying "unable to scan networks"
its a vodafone UK contract Galaxy S (if that makes any difference)
I tried to root my phone using
[PROGRAM] One Click Root/UnRoot I9000 (Eclair and Froyo) Mac and PC
it seemed to work . i had an extra app for changing a few settings. but i still couldn't find the wifi file i need to delete? Had it not been rooted properly?
I'd really like to fix this without having to do a master reset every time?
What are my options?
Could i take an image of the mobile and remove the file from the image? then restore the image. A bit crazy if routing is not a possibility?
Can anyone help?
Thank you, unable to scan networks solved
How did you solve it?
with master reset?
Latest update to DI07 fixed this issue for me
The update was DI07 for the Samsung Epic 4G, not the Vibrant.

This weekend's update to DI07 from DG27 has fixed my "Unable to scan" Wifi issues. Since a few days ago when I would turn on Wifi it would turn itself off after about 10-20 seconds. It would also show a message saying "unable to scan for networks".. Previously I read that a factory reset would fix this problem but I held out for the new update to be pushed to my phone today (9/19) and indeed it fixed my problem. After the update rebooted, my Wifi turned on with no problem and it showed my previously added networks as well.
Good luck!

Is this update for the galaxy S?
or is there going to be a similar update?
I haven't logged onto another WIFI since I had to reset the phone (apart from my home WIFI). so i don't have to go through setting it up again.
cheers for the extra info
quick update
I am backing up with titanium backup manger now (free)
so hopefully it will restore the wifi it goes wrong again
(the phone needs to be ROOTED for the Titanium backup to work)
I rooted my phone with
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742403
one click rooter ( i couldn't run the "Galaxy S I9000 One-Click Root" file. i ran "rootme" file for 2.1 android, the rootme2.2 is for 2.2 it says dont run both)
And have 'astro file manager'(Free) and can explore more of my phone by pressing the up button a few times.
in astro file manger I searched for the word 'wifi' and got about 3 results. So its probably one of these.
We'll it working for the moment but I'm posting the more info for anyone else.
(I still don't know which file to delete to reset the wifi though.) but the titanium backup should be able to restore the wifi settings

Hi,
You have first to open 'adb shell' and in the shell enter 'su' (you must allow superuser access on your phone).
Next execute 'rm /data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf' and finaly 'reboot'
Good luck,
Mark

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I spent over an hour on the phone with AT&T and then with Samsung trying to resolve the "unable to scan networks" issue. Absolutely worthless.
I rooted my phone just to try this and avoid doing the factory reset, and it worked!
Now if only I knew how to avoid this in the future...
thanks this actually worked for my fascinate as well.. saved me some hassle!
I had the unable to scan networks problem on my Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant.
Have been attaching to static IP in my house using Wifi Static app. (great app, by the way. stores configurations for multiple static ips and then configures wifi and connects automatically when you're in range of one of them. no more manual fiddling with settings for every static IP)
But I guess this precipitated whatever happens to the "conf" file mentioned above.
Initially installed ES Strong file manager to see if I could see the contents of the /data folder. Showed up as empty. (apparently not a high enough level of access to see if there's anything in there)
So needed to go for "root" access.
Rooted my phone with One Click Root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742403
then installed the "Terminal Emulator" app from Android marketplace.
Ran the terminal emulator to get a command prompt. your soft keyboard should pop up. if not, hit the menu button on your phone and hit "toggle soft keyboard". Then typed in:
'su' and hit 'enter' (do not type quote marks)
to gain superuser access.
The superuser app will pop up to ask you if you want to grant superuser access to the terminal. hit 'yes' or 'ok' or whatever the right button is.
terminal responds with a '#' prompt.
Then I typed in:
'mv /data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf /data/wifi/bcm_supp.bak' and hit 'enter'
to rename the file.
I then typed 'exit' and hit 'enter' to get out of superuser and then I hit the phone's 'back' button to shut down the terminal.
And now my wifi works again!!
The terminal procedure could probably be put into a script.
Next time it happens, I'll just do the same.
Once Bell releases Froyo in Mid-dec, maybe this will be solved. But I'll probably hold off and watch the forums for a while before jumping to Froyo just in case it buggers up something else.
Good luck!

Thanks a lot alsatea. Deleting /data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf and rebooting resolved the problem and I got back wi-fi. All the networks remembered previously came back. Thanks mate.
Just in case anyone is reading this topic but is unable to find the bcm_supp.conf file, try this instead:
> adb shell
$ su
# cd /data/misc
# chown wifi.wifi wifi
Then try enabling the wifi again. It should work.

[Q] Help - Need to remove MCR Scripts App that was installed with lagfix

So I have to send my phone in to Tmo - I'm having accelerometer issues so they're sending me a new one. I've unrooted and have removed everything else but I can't remove the MCR SCRIPTS that was installed when doing the lag fix. Can you guys help? Thanks!

I had the same problem, used one click root program to root my vibrant again. Then I downloaded "super manager" from the market. opened super manager went to apk, scrolled to the bottom found mcr scripts destonation ( system/app/ase_mcr_r25.apk) then I downloaded "terminal emulator" from the market. Open terminal emulator and type;
$su
# rm -r /system/app/ase_mcr_r25.apk
This removed it for me, make sure you verify the location on your phone. I'm not sure if it would be the same for you.
hope this helps

There's plenty of other information in the threads dealing with these ROMs too. If only people would ask/read there, rather than making new threads for every issue they encounter.

You need root to apply this. The "#" prompt at the beginning of the lines indicates that you have su permissions. If you have an "$" prompt instead, and are getting a message "permission denied", then you likely do not have root. If you DO have root, you may have to run "su" before the first line.

Dude. The very first sentence of my post said "you need root to apply this". If you are not rooted, you will not have the su binary, thus you cannot do this.
Root your phone first.
Though, if you can't understand what I'm saying, maybe you shouldn't.

Sorry, I don't really understand what you are asking.
Bottom line; you need root to apply the fix. However you are able to accomplish this doesn't matter.

really very thankful to you for solving my problem no 1. i use this method to solve this issue
To fix scrren lock issue, do the following:
For ALL whoever are facing problems with the LOCK SCREEN here is the solution :
Tools Needed:
1. Hex Editor
2. Root Explorer
5. using hex editor the first two values in green should be 4f and 4e. all others should be 00.
6. make sure you save the file.
7. reboot.

4. now go into hex editor and locate the /efs/imei/keystr file.
5. using hex editor the first two values in green should be 4f and 4e. all others should be 00.
6. make sure you save the file.

Solution (it worked for a guy with the same problem today):
ROOT access needed.
Download from Market "Terminal Emulator"
Open it and type this commands:
su
echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
sync
reboot

Hello, how do you solve your problem??
Thank you!!
thank you so much! it works great!! you are so cool!!
Open terminal emulator and type as ;
su
rm /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
rm /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
reboot
You now should not see the that message anymore. Its because of an EFS corruption.

VRoot to SuperSU Installer

VRoot Cleanup Tool - Easily replace VRoot with SuperSU
From your Windows PC
OK everyone, here's the deal. I did the VRoot the toher day on my phone and it worked great. The problem is that it can be tricky to get the old Chinese Superuser app and SU binaries updated to SuperSU. As a result I decided to put this tool together to help update the VRoot files to SuperSU, and get rid of the old VRoot ones. What this means is that you can now clean up the Chinese Super User app and completely install SuperSU with a single click, from your Windows PC.
How to use:
Download Root Cleanup from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sto74q58uq4r1bj/root_cleaner.zip
Extract it to a folder on your computer.
Open the new folder and double click the clean_root.bat file.
Follow the directions.
** You will want to make sure that USB debugging is on (which it should be from VROOT) and that VRoot is closed when you run this. **
Also note I only have one phone to test with, and it worked great on the one I have. Please let me know if you have any other issues and I will try my best to help. Also, as always, not responsible for problems . <3
Edit: I just got asked via PM if this is to be run after freezing VRoot, etc. So I wanted to add here in case anyone else wondered. With this tool you do not need to freeze VRoot, delete any files, etc. My script will literally take care of everything for you. So, run VRoot and the phone will reboot. You can immediately close VRoot on your computer and run this to completely replace VRoot with SuperSU, and remove VRoot files.
This is my first time writing something like this, but so far I have a lot of people who told me it works fine. Please let me know if you have issues and Ill do my best to help! I went ahead and created this thread at the request of some people who have had good success with this on the other thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511815&page=29
Update: V4 is up - this version makes sure that ADB is accessible. Thank you @k1mu for helping me with this!
I want to ask you, why do you think the process on i9505 hangs on the line "cleaning up files" and does not automatically reboot the phone? You need to manually reboot it.
For the rest it works great!
Thank you

My guess would be these lines:
adb shell "su -c 'rm /dev/com.mgyun.shua.su'"
adb shell "su -c 'rm /dev/com.mgyun.shua.su.daemon'"
adb shell "su -c 'rm -rf /dev/com.mgyun.shua.su'"
adb shell "su -c 'rm -rf /dev/com.mgyun.shua.su.daemon'"
The issue is that I cant remember if com.mgyun.shua.su and com.mgyun.shua.su.daemon are directories or files. If you could confirm for me which they are then I will be happy to fix my tool!
Thx
Angie
it tells me that "device not found" any clues?
never mind the first statment if i put the file in the phone the run it from my computer it goes away. but I'm now going to put word for word what it tells me. "When prompted to grant root to ADB select yes. 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Once you have granted root to ADB press any key to continue... Press any key to continue . . .
but it never askes me to grant root to it it just sits there and does nothing and if i hit continue with out allowing it, it just deletes the su and unroots the phone. any clues about what I could be doing wrong
Works also with Galaxy S4 Italy Gt-i9505 :good:

If you are getting device not found that typically means that ADB is not able to access or find the phone. I would make sure that you close the VRoot tool as it will keep the debugging bridge tied up, and give you a device not found error. After you root you need make sure VRoot is closed before running my tool.

That "adb is not recognized.. " is because the batch file is not running with it's current directory in the folder where you extracted it.
@LilTechPrincess -
adding "cd %~dp0"
at the start of the clean_root.bat will ensure that it's able to find the files that it needs since that'll CD to the drive and path where the clean_root.bat was extracted.

So did it fix your root to SuperSU?
Also, does anyone know how I can prompt root to ADB easier than this? Currently I am doing this to try and force the Superuser prompt:
adb shell "su -c 'touch /sdcard/invoke-root'"
If anyone knows how to do this better please let me know!

Thats not a big deal. Basically, I removed the /sdcard/install-recovery.sh from the script earlier and forgot to not try and delete a file that doesnt exist... Ill fix that! haha That doesnt hurt anything at all. Sowwy!
