I just tried to install the latest viper redline rom, but after i did it just keeps rebooting. I am rooted using revolutionary, i used the steps from the site but just can't get to to not reboot, can someone please help me out. also android version is 2.3.4 if that helps when giving a solution to my problem. thanks in advance.
What steps did you take in installing the ROM? Did you make sure to do a full wipe?
Steps to take:
-Make sure that you wipe correctly. With a new ROM you should be wiping Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache, System, and Boot.
-If you're able to actually boot it but it resets afterwards, did you flash a kernel or overclock? Undo those types of things.
-If it boots, try backing up all of your apps and then uninstalling them to see if one of them is the culprit.
So it comes down to:
IF IT DOESN'T BOOT:
-check to see if you got a bad download (redownload or check MD5)
-full wipe
-install
IF IT BOOTS:
-could be an app issue, overclocking, kernel, etc
See what that gives you.

i wiped the cache and data that was it. don't know how to wipe dalvic cache or system can you either tell me or give a link to the step by step guide. i didn't overclock or put a different kernel on the phone.i did redownload the rom to make sure it wasn't the rom. All it does is show the viper across the screen then reboots show the htc on the white screen then reboots again.
What recovery do you use?

I'm gonna bet this is why you are having problems. Try updating the firmware.

I have updated the firmware, and far as the recovery i believe it's the one that was in the rev root.
try again wipe and reflash
Thanks for the help everyone, i figured the was when i rooted using revolutionary clockwork wasn't in it, so i installed a recovery and the rom works like a charm.
That was my suggestion. The rev root method fails to install cwm.
Ps there are currently no working kernels with the new basr

Try to clear cache under applications for the market. But you should ask this at the rom thread....

Flashed this rom (and kernel) and now I am not able to get past the TBolt boot screen with the thunder. Hung there for over 2 mins.
-I flashed the kernel with hboot
-installed the ROM with CWR (rom manager) 3.0.2.4
-also cleared the download cache in Rom Manager, deleted and reflashed the recovery.
Still hangs...

usually best practice is, wipe data X2, wipe cache X2, wipe dalvik cache X2, then flash the rom, fully boot the rom, go back to Hboot and flash the kernal.
I believe they are saying to NOT wipe 1.1 for this ROM? I could be wrong. I think they said to just flash OVER the current 1.1, as wiping will cause it to hang on the cloud screen. I think that's the lastest from that 30+ page thread .
Fix permissions on cwr.

Reflash ROM and wipe your data and cache. Had the same problem, and that worked for me.

what do you mean you lost root... hboot no longer shows S-Off?
and my bad, I didn't know their second version of the rom was all weird and needed to be flashed over the original.
Hmm just checked hoot still shows s_off but root checker says Su not found in path. Also still getting that weird market error when I try to install anything. It downloads just won't install.

you have to have version 1.1 installed first. So you need to wipe data and cache. Flash version 1.1 and reboot. Let it get past the clouds and boot into the rom. go back into cwm and flash 1.2. DO NOT WIPE DATA!!! Wiping cache is fine. If you wipe data you will have problems.
Im currently running Viper4g on my evolte but ive been checking out CM10 and i want to try it out. What would be the usual steps to take when flashing a new rom?
I would do a full NAND backup with whatever recovery you have in case you want to revert back. Then do a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) and flash the new ROM.
Read the guide in my sig lol, explains just about anything you could think of and has a list of basic trouble shooting scenarios that some users are likely to encounter

Of course it's great
However, you said yourself: it's a great reference guide, but not a step-by-step for anything.

Yes but the title of his thread says tips for someone new....ahaaaa.. *cue classic black and white cinema fiend music*

How to flash a boot image if S-ON Dev Unlocked 1.15 HBOOT:
I was trying to install CM10 btw. I did a backup using twrp tried restoring but that didnt work. What can i do now to fix it?
Maybe the cmx was a bad download or bad flash. If you fasboot flashed the aosp boot IMG you might have problems trying to restore a sense backup. I would download cmx again redo all the steps.
I'm not sure if you have to flash a sense boot IMG when restoring a backup , I would try it tho to be safe.
Hey man. The instructions work, so start over and make sure you follow every step including wiping.

To restore your existing backup, you will need to reflash your old viper4g kernel (boot.IMG) first with fastboot.

Yes, follow the same steps you used to flash the CM10 kernel to reflash the viper4g kernel. Your exisiting viper4g backup should then boot OK.

It worked! Thanks for the help guys. Im gonna leave CM10 alone until the weekend when im off.
I have the Sprint HTC Evo 4g LTE. I have HBoot 2.19, and also twrp recovery. I attempted to flash CM 10 but it did not seem to succeed. Now all I get is the HTC screen and it stops there. If I attempt to reboot or shut down in recovery, I get a message that says NO OS. Also the phone is unlocked but is in S-on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can anyone offer a solution?
Sounds like a bad download. Try redownloading your rom of choice and verify the md5
Wipe data,
Wipr cache,
Wipe dalvic,
Wipe system
flash again.
Remember that first boot will take a while especially with cm 10.

I recently attempted to root my HTC thunderbolt, and to do so I used the htc dev unlocker and then this "HTC Thunderbolt Tool'
rootzwiki.com/topic/27310-all-in-one-the-htc-thunderbolt-tool
After that I downloaded a rom and installed it through the 4ext recovery, it all install fine and I did do a factory/data reset but whenever I reboot after the rom install, I get the HTC white bootloader and then the screen become black with a back light to it.
I have tried a number of times to re-install the rom and have tried to use other roms but all of them seem to end the same way.
I have used:
BAMF FOREVER 1.1
BAMF MECHA ICS
AIRBORNE GOUI
Killsense 3.7.19
Lightning501
few more
My phone is a HTC Thunderbolt and when I attempted to root the phone it had a hboot version of 1.0.8 and had a stock version of ICS installed.
Sadly I have a phone without a working rom and I had forgot to make a backup so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Preferably I would like to keep the phone rooted but its not necessary.
Thank You

I have tried clearing everything but still doesn't seem to work.
One thing I forgot to mention is sometimes if I wait long enough on the blank screen It boots me back into the 4ext recovery, don't know if that makes much of a difference.
The way I have been installing the rom
Load ROM onto the SD
Do a "wipe data/factory reset"
Go into install sd and choose the Rom which is in a .zip file
I think this is how its supposed to be done, but not sure.

Problem is you were coming from the ICS OTA.
The All In One Tool alone will not get you rooted after taking the OTA.
In order to fully root and s-off after having the OTA loaded, you would need to follow the steps outlined HERE

You can use whatever Recovery you want, Clockwork Mod is old and not really suggested to use, especially with newer roms.

Before you install any rom you should do the following
TWRP choose advanced in wipe section and wipe dalvik cache, cache, system and data.
This will not ensure the ROM is installed successfully

Chances are you need S-Off for that rom..
