Hi Guys
Dropped my phone slightly and the screen went black. I think the display is somehow damaged but all other things seem to work. All keys are working except that i see nothing on the screen. STACKED!
Can anyone tell me how to access the internal stored data? I really need to get some data I stored in it.
Would the warranty cover this problem? I just had this phone for 2 months.
THANKS!

Depending on what the USB debugging mode was set to, you might be able to ADB in.
Can you connect it to your PC? If it was rooted you can see much of the user areas where your data is stored. Glass breakage is not usually covered by warranty. If you were rooted and have a recent TiBU backup you can copy it from the device and transfer it to the new device. Reading things like FAQs and stickies would have prepared you for this.
I normally drag down the notification bar and choose the usb connection and then press connect USB. Now, as I am not able to see anything it is impossible to guess these steps. What can I do?
Appreciate your help!
By the way, I see the icons on my pc but says 'insert disk...' as I have not chosen the USB connection mode on my phone.
Phone is not rooted.
Did you install the USB drivers on the PC beforehand? Unrooted you will be limited as to what data areas can be seen.
Yes I had previously installed the USB driver.
The thing is that I cannot get connected to the device although all keys work perfectly and unfortunately invisible scree.
You won't be able to do anything until you can get the PC to recognize the phone. Try installing/reinstalling the USB drivers. Do you have USB Development turned on or off?

Warranty will cover this as long as:
1) No huge gashes on phone
2) You tell them you didn't drop it, maybe say it has done this a couple times and now this time it did not come back on.
Hi Guys!
As always, I feel good when I get people replying to my threads.
so, BIG THANKS!
I have not powered my USB dev on, as far as I remember.
Had the same issue att replaced it under warranty. I didnt drop mine at all just the screen stop coming on. Weird

Alright, so I very stupidly got curious and took apart my x10.
After putting it back together (very carefully and precisely) when I turned the phone on the screen lights up in the background but briefly displays colored scan lines in random directions for about a second. I've taken it apart and put it back together multiple times to assure I've attached all the cables and wires.
The thing is that the phone works since my computer recognizes it (i can hear the USB charge sound), and I managed to maneuver my way into the notification area and enable USB Connect and was able to view the SD card contents on my computer.
What could possibly be wrong? I didn't damage anything while taking it apart since I was very careful, but the screen just doesn't display anything. I'm very confused.
It would be nice to be able to fix this with some opinions instead of bringing it in and paying $100 to fix it or sending it in and having to wait 2 months.
Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for the link, I've posted in that thread also.
I'd still like to get some opinions in here tho.
Hello, guys.
I was swiping around with my phone today when I found out that to move an icon out of the dock became annoying. I thought it was just the phone got slow for so many apps running but even after a reboot it did the same.
It turns that if the phone is plugged in a PC (I've tried with two different PC's and two different O.S., Crunchbang and Windows 7) that part of the screen, about 3 squared centimeters, stops responding as it should. It doesn't hold a drag and drop swipe, for example. If you pull out the device from the PC, voilà, perfect. I tried with different official ROMs, installed wiping everything, even internal storage and always get the same problem.
I am using Android ICS (compilation 453 UK) and would appreciate your opinions, mainly to know if I am the only one with this issue, if this can be fixed or my phone will go right away to Sony in order to be fixed.
Thanks in advance!
P.S.: I'm rendering a video to show you clearly the issue...
Since you have tried anything on your hand to make it work, this might even be a dumb suggestion, but have you tried to plug the phone using another USB cable? Maybe it's the cable causing some sort of interference or something.
Thanks for your suggestion but I tried with two different cables. The original that comes with the phone and an HTC from my previous Nexus One.
This is really a weird and impossible to understand for me issue. I mean, I could understand if the phone gets a bit slower being connected to the PC due to the I/O operations of the Internal Storage or even more if it is connected in Debug mode but the fact just a 3 CM2 portion of the screen becomes iresponsive is getting me crazy.
Sony Tech Support just recommends me to send the phone back to them.
Turn it off for a while 3 hours let it chil.
Could do something.

I just did what you said, left the phone switched off all night long and this morning switched on with the same results.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion, it was really something I didn't think of before.

That's exactly what I'll do. I just hope this is not a plague of defective devices or a common issue. Know only a folk with the same problem.

So nightmare scenario, dropped my DNA across the metal transition between carpet and vinyl floors and completely shattered the screen. When I push the power button I get a faint grey color that indicates the phone is responding, but the screen is too far gone to display anything. The phone is rooted, and I believe I have TWRP installed. Is there any way to get my data off this phone? I activated my old Incredible (has it always been this small?!), so I have a phone, but I have pictures, videos and other files I would like to retrieve from the DNA with no apparent means to do so. Do I have any options other than ordering a screen/digitizer replacement and trusting my repair skills?
Nothing happens when you connect it to a computer?

Turns out Boogadaboogadaboogada is too long...
When I hook it up I get the Verizon install crap. I have always had to unlock the phone and allow debug mode to enable it to function as a USB device and see files and folders. Obviously, that's not in the cards right now...
Alright, well there's the adb push/pull commands but that'd probably have the same problems that mass storage has.

Do you have adb set up on your computer? See if "adb devices" recognizes your phone.

Well, I was able to get something figured out over my lunch hour. I have an MHL->HDMI converter which I hooked up to my TV. That allowed me to verify that the phone was working and the digitizer was responding. I found out a while back that a small ziplock bag works wonderfully if there's a chance of rain since it's watertight and still allows the screen to respond to touches. I used one to protect my finger from all the glass edges. I then hooked the USB cord to a computer, blindly swiped the notification bar down and poked in the area where I remember the USB debugging line to be. Luckily enough, I managed to gain access. Not the easiest way of doing things, but it worked.
Now I just have to decide whether to fix the phone or burn an upgrade on another line to keep my unlimited data. Verizon's launch of the "The New One" might play into that decision...
That's awesome man. Glad you got everything figured out.
Yeah that phones gonna be awesome. Everyone b****ing about the black bar at the bottom but it doesn't bother me at all. That's definitely gonna end up being my next phone unless somehow Verizon gets the Xperia Z2.

Ok long story short, i threw my phone at the wall and now it wont turn on. Im not too bothered about the phone, ive had it a while and want a new one anyway, however upon removing the micro sd i discovered that all my pics and vids from the last few years are stored on the phone.
As i cant power it on (i get a constant red led if i connect it to anything) i cant see it on the pc to pull data off, anyone have any suggestions for me to get them pics and videos?
I've took it apart but cant see anything obvious to repair, all i can think of now is putting my motherboard into a working z2
The LED is not meant to stay constantly on when connecting the device to something whilst off. It is supposed to go off after a few seconds. That doesn't sound good.
Have you checked to see if you can boot into fastboot mode, or even flash mode? May not help in this case, but if that functionality is working then the device is not dead just yet.
Also, make sure all needed drivers are installed on your computer. The device will not be picked up properly without them. Install them manually if not.
If you can place the motherboard into a working Z2, which will eliminate many potential areas of failure provided it starts working, then that is the only way you can retrieve your data.
It's impossible to retrieve data stored on built-in storage on a dead device, so what you are asking has no straightforward answer.
Next time, please throw significantly cheaper items at walls, and not modern, uncommon smartphones.
last bit is brilliant advice, problem with that is automated services annoy me and the phone is in my hand already when i gotta put up with them lol
I cant get it to power on at all, not fastboot, flash mode nothing.
I know putting the mainboard into a working z2 might not work but i figure thats my best chance, i think it can be done with jtag tools, but not willing to spend a few hundred quid for something ill probably never use again..... I've also seen some eMMC readers available, but as that involves removing the eMMC chip from mainboard id be even more stuck if it didnt work
Hi all,
I'm currently on holiday and my phone as many of us is my carry camera, sat nav and all around organizing tool!
Used it yesterday all day with no issues , got to the car and the camera was running. No big deal except the screen had become unresponsive, nothing would work so I did a volume down/power button to force restart.
That didn't help and i'm now where I was 15 hrs ago at the pin enter screen, I cannot factory restart as it wants you to type in Yes (omg)
I cannot back up and data (all photos on a memory card though :good: )
Tried multiple restarts, shutdowns, run it flat, charged it up, done the restarts connected to a computer, not connected.
Could I factory reset via ADB?
Use a mouse to unlock?
Different combination of button presses?
Promise to be a better man..anything!:
Any idea very welcome!!
Thank you
Rory
Anyone? , using my spare old m8 and it is hard work compared to the Mate!

What he said )
Any other suggestions apart from returning it?
Someone must have had a similar issue (well I know they have via searching but there hasn't been any advice on the next step.
It seems more like a software fault rather than hardware (or maybe that is wishful thinking) plus sending to Huawei doesn't really help while on holiday. ?
The phone has never been dropped, always in a case, etc..
Has or is it possible to factory reset it via adb only? I guess the other way is to update it via adb?
Calling all xda gurus, I know you are out there! any ideas welcome, apart from returning it at this stage. ?
As you said you can try using and external mouse!
Quick update.
Got it working.
USB wired mouse worked perfectly, this way you can back up all data, photos/android folder etc even if the phone does not come back to life. Kind of crucial as even if you have a memory card a NM reader is not easy to pick up (quickly)
Luckily with the bunch of cables i carry with my frequent travelling I was able to go wired usb A mouse to OTG to micro usb mini to mini to C adaptor. (obviously a micro usb C mouse is not as easy to get hold of)
Now the screen coming back to life process was not so clear, it took a few factory resets and a night plugged into a laptop in the bootloader menu to respond?
All was well for the last week of the holiday (however i fear a hardware problem may be hiding or I was unlucky with a software issue), either way all was good when it was needed and I will see what progresses.
Have the same issue, did the wired mouse let you use it for “regular” things like messaging

Sorry I cannot be more helpful as I never really did figure out why.

Have you got a mouse plugged into usb C to back up and perform a factory reset??
