I am bamf remix 1.6.2 using the standard kernel. Will juice defender improve my battery life?
I've never used it. I'm using the updated kernel 4.4.6 OC'd all the way up on demand. Really liking the battery life.
my brother swears by juice defender on his thunderbolt but i haven't used it myself FWIW
All it really does is turn off your data connection at certain times, so yes it should improve battery life. I have never used it nor do I plan on using it. I bought a smart phone so I can always be "connected", I do not want my data connection to be cut off. But hey, if you don't mind it just might help you.

You practically will be connected almost all of the time with JuiceDefender. It will turn off you data when not in use, but you can set up an internval where the data will turn on for however long you want for it to sync data like email.
Juice Defender didn't always turn 3g back on for me and I had to reboot to get it back. I lose a lot of battery when I reboot so I uninstalled this app.
I do use juice plotter and love to use it to manage my battery life, see trends and find out what I can do to stretch my battery life when needed.
I use JD Ultimate and think it does more than simply disconnecting your data. For example you can reduce the amount of data you receive which has greatly improved my battery life when I mostly needed to use my phone for things that did not require a whole lot of data.

Ken, I am currently using Juice defender on the Tbolt and have seen some improvement, more like 5 percent an hour down with medium usage versus not having juice and dropping 10-12 percent an hour.
Still nice to have the extended battery.
I'd like to give the green power a shot as Pzy suggested.
I have had good luck with JD. Only use when I'm at work or out and about when I'm not using the phones data much and need the battery to last.

Same here. I tried juice defender and it was just OK, it added maybe an hour of usage.
But I tried the free Green Power last week and it added 4-6 hours of battery. Then I bought the full and with nightmode on, I am now at 1 day 8 hours since unplug with 23% of battery left. Display eats the lion's share, followed by phone calls.

It works fine here but I am unrooted. I use the power widget and I can see the network and wifi turning on/off.
It might be CM7.
The disabling/re-enabling of radios was way too finicky for me, plus the fact that I didn't really notice anything but negligible gains in battery life.
I just bought the extended battery for $25 (got Verizon to give me a half-off discount) and called it a day.

It's gonna depend on how you use your phone. For the most part Juice Defender will only save your battery when your screen is off and your not using your phone. However you can set it to disable the networks when certain apps are running as well. So I guess it could save you a little if you had it set up for certain apps you use a lot that don't require a network connection (i.e. games).
I have been using Juice Defender with the stripped bamf rom and kernel. When my screen is off my battery is barely used. For example I went to bed at around 12am woke up around 6am and only lost 2% of battery.
I love JD. Yea i bought a smartphone that wants to stay connected but honestly it doesnt need to. Ive probably doubled my battery life, dropping maybe 1 percent in 3hrs, MAYBE, when its idling. I really like it. It doesnt take long for 3g to enable when i need it too, and plus i can enable it from the notification bar instantly.
Idk anyone having a problem with the battery life on atrix. I have juice defender and autokiller (the one suggested by juice defender) and my battery just drains away and away. Thnx

Mine can last for a day with moderate use.
Be careful with task killers because they can sometimes close apps that will start again by themselves thus consuming cpu/power in the process.
What battery mode are you using?

I was having issues with my battery life at idle to. Had them for two weeks.
Then finally my SD card reformatted itself and I did some searching here and found this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085214&highlight=internal+gingerbreak+deleted
Basically gingerbreak not only deletes the SD card but leaves it inconsistent. So for me it left a little timebomb that eventually got itself reformatted by the phone itself.
It took a long time b4 I saw anything odd other than higher than normal phone idle CPU usage. As high or higher than display if I wasn't using the phone much.
Finally 2 days ago I started getting random errors when trying to install things from market about not enogh free space. Then blam internal sd card reformat.
After I did a full (not quick) internal sd format from windows mounted usb drive I have awesome battery usage today. Phone idle CPU is WAY down. Now display is the primary power suck. As it should be!!
Note that have purchased systempanel and the historical CPU usage did NOT help me find this issue.
I guess I would have never saw it if the OS didn't just decide to reformat it.
Good luck!

Not sure what setting you are using but it doesnt even register on my battery use stats, ever. I set it to moderate and didnt change any other settings.
Im curious what settings were you using.?
Have you tried "Battery Calibration"? I was getting 8 to 9 hours with heavy use, rooted and then used "Battery Calibration" and now I can easily get 15+ plus hours of heavy use. I use emulators, PowerAmp, have auto brightness on and no juice defender and am still getting great battery life. Highly recommend it!
I've seen a lot of users' postings of battery statistics (screen shots) and they are all considerably better than what I am getting. The biggest difference I see is in the amount of battery drain from "Android System." What I see posted is between 9% and 13%. However, my batt stats show the Android System draining 60% of the battery.
So, what am I doing wrong? I'm still kind of new to Android. Is it the widgets? I've checked running processes verses what apps are draining battery life and nothing is running that drains like the system does.
Further info: I am currently running the 7.18.12 build of Diet ICS, but I was seeing this behavior on stock as well. Some widgets I use: Astrid premium tasks widget, Evernote, doubletwist, slacker, 3D clock/weather, a widgetsoid switcher, and APW Calendar.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

How often do your widgets that gather info refresh? Try scaling down on some widgets and see if that helps. If not, try to flash stock with odin and start over. I was having some problems with my phone when I first got it (MTP specifically) and I falshed stock and everything started working fine. Also, if you are using Google Chrome, make sure you have the experimental feature of using the gyroscope for tilt scrolling set to off....it is known to drain battery.
Hope this helps :good:

Maybe I will try flashing stock if I have time today. I reset my battery stats in recovery mode when I took the phone off the charger this morning, so we'll see how today goes.
I looked into the widgets and the only one that refreshes data on a schedule is the clock/weather. I'll try a different one or just not use the weather.
Great tip about Chrome. Didn't know it did that.
Do I actually need to calibrate the battery? I tried the method of letting it die and charge back up a few times and I've tried recharging once it gets down between 70-80 percents life. I'm not sure which method helped, but I did notice an improvement.
Thanks again for the help.

On another note, I'm so glad I got a device with a huge support community. Coming from iOS, it's nice to feel part of a collective effort again and get such great advice. I know there are a lot of iOS forums and there is some great work done through those communities, but those seem so trivial compared to what is done through XDA and the level of helpfulness is unparalleled here.

I read somewhere in the forum that these batteries actually like to be constantly charged up and not let die completely. There was no explanation for this but I will research it because I am curious. With my old Captivate, i let it die then fully charge to extend the overall life of the battery.

Have you tried using the CPU Sleeper app?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745516
I found that it does a great job of preserving battery life when the phone is in standby. I used to notice my battery draining really fast over short periods on standby (phone would be hot to the touch). After installing this, I have not encountered that problem again. I get 16-20 hours of use on moderate usage. LTE, gps, and sync are always enabled. I DO NOT have the phone in power saving mode and I seldom use wifi. I used to get 10-12 hours of battery life on the same usage before. I am running the rooted version of the stock rom from my carrier.
CPU sleeper app works great for me. I am in a non LTE area but get incredible battery life, last all day usually with around 50% left. An order of magnitude better than my SGS2

Hi all,
I also notice this and this were the steps that I did and seems to help me to reduce this process to like 5 %. I'm on Sprint S3 but should be the same for the all carriers.
Go ahead and open Talk application. You should see your account in green (I'm not using this application) then hit the menu and then select sigh Off. Make sure that your account changes to Offline (sometimes it is change back it self so open one more time make sure that it says Offline). Then what else I change is in wi-fi advanced options: under Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep I choose Only when plugged in option. then I reboot the phone and from now on (almost 2 days) my Android system process show up only 5% of usage and my battery life improve significantly. I hope this will helps.
Thanks
Those are great tips. Thanks. I will say I've gotten increasingly better life since employing other tips discussed here.
Something else I did was download a profile changing app. I got Quick Profiles, but anything should do. If anyone uses anything better, please share. I have a profile for power saving that turns down my brightness, and turns off wifi and Bluetooth. The app will let you put shortcuts on the home screen to instantly change the profile. I'd like to find one, however, that will also turn off gps and mobile data.
The Rez I'm using now is an Asurion replacement. Before, this thing was saving battery like a champ. Used to get a full 24 hours or more plus 2 hours screen on time.
Now it's just terrible. I'm 34% on battery after less than 5 hours off the charger with far less than an hour of screen on time.
I'm running Snuzzo's 2.2 funky kernel and Newt's One XxX 6.0.2 rom, S-OFF. CPU is tweaked, running dancedance governor and SIO. 386 MHz to 1 GHz (or whatever they exactly are) when in use. Various profiles are set to run lower, as ive always done.
I'd appreciatw the help, guys. Thanks.

Yes, what he said. I'm running Newt's with ExtraFunky 2c and don't have any problems. In the past when my battery life suddenly nose dived, it turned out to be some app that decided to keep wakelock for some unknown reason. Check recently updated apps.
Yeah probably an app or service running in the background.
Turn off GPS and blue tooth when not in use
Use WiFi when you can
Turn off Google Now
Turn off location history and location reporting in Google maps settings
Make sure you have no widgets constantly refreshing
Increase the times between sync for Gmail, Facebook et al
Try running a more conservative cpu governor supported by your kernel, such as Wheatley or Intellidemand.
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk 2
I don't really use Bluetooth that often and keep it off, and gps is always off. And got rid of Google now for the regular Google search. Only the clock widget is running. Though, I should spacing sync times.
Uninstalling some apps seems to have helped for the most part (which makes sense, as I just recently restored a nand backup). But, it's still not as good as it was. I guess it's best to just keep tinkering at this point.
Thanks
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Well for example, I use fancy widgets for my clock/weather. If you use a program like better battery stats (search xda for the free version), you will see fancy widgets causing the device to wake up more than almost anything else.
That's when you can do stuff like spacing out weather sync to 3 hours, prefer sync over wifi, and maybe even setting a default fixed location for your weather.
But with the kind of battery loss you described, something more than a widget is grabbing power. Make sure you are on auto brightness, btw.
I also use a program called system panel to see what all background services are running. For example, you would be surprised to see services for Google Talk, social apps, even some games running in the background. Then you can use titanium backup to freeze them or un install.
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk 2
I've been using Gsam, but what I see use up more resources than anything is the kernel I typically uninstall anything I do not use. Stuff sitting higher up are things like the Kernel, Android System, Camera, Wallpaper Lockscreen and Android Core Apps. That's everything that goes 1% or higher. Everything is under 10%.
And, surprisingly, wake times aren't that high. Typically, screen on time is about equal to the awake time, so all seems well on that end.
I think removing and re-installing apps that were using excessive amounts of energy has probably done the trick, though.
What tuner app do you use?
You might just try running Intellidemand with no underclocking and see how that works for you.
The problem with underclocking is, if you don't give an app enough juice it will take longer to complete a task and the cpu will run longer.
Look closely at your deep sleep times. I barely lose any battery overnight bc I run Wheatley underclocked to 1242 for screen off only.
Glad removing the apps helped some, those buggers.
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk 2
I think I'm in a better area now.
I'm using setCPU (always has been reliable for me in the past). I'm running 385-1512 with dancedance and noop. I think this is where I need to be. It's kind I'd feeling like it used to again.
I'm going to try Funky 2.3 now.

Screen On time is not that great for 8 pct battery left. But it could have been bc you were listening to music for part of that time. Otherwise your screen shot looks normal, good total life.

I'm getting pretty crazy battery reports using the newest funky kernel for cm10. I could have the phone off charger for hours and it still reports 100% battery. Granted I wasn't using the phone that much, if at all,but to still see 100% battery after that long even idling is weird. Using dancrdance governer with deadline scheduler. It doesn't take much tho to get my battery draining. After about 4-6 hours of use (playing music, games, looking on forums and such) I'm down to about 25% or less. Any suggestions?
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk 2
Oooooh, yes. I listen to a lot of music during the day. That day, though, was while listening to less than usual. My deal is going screen on and watching the battery drain 2-4 percent in a 2-5 minute time frame. I understand that the screen is heavy on the battery, but it's never really been like this before. I'm sure I'll have this figured out sometime soon.
What kernel are you on? You might look into undervolting. For example, funky kernel is undervolted by 50 by default. Ermahgerd isn't undervolted by default but supports it. You can safely go down as many as 75-100 without stability issues. It does dramatically reduce battery drain.

I am quoting Neo, but here are extreme settings for maximum battery life.
A little something I suggested to someone earlier on the fly:
*Don't use auto brightness and keep your screen brightness low but not too low that causes you to strain.
*Undervolt all frequencies by -50mv using kernel tuner.
*Underclock the rom to 1,080mhz
*Change I/O scheduler to noop
*Change governor to Lionheart (if you have it) or DanceDance.
*Disable all haptic feedback including soft keys and keyboard
*Disable data or account sync overnight (unless you plug your phone into a charger over night)
*Enable 16-bit transparency
*Disable dithering
*Disable HW overlays
*Disable all animations
*Ensure GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth are turned off when not in use
*Use WiFi where available instead of 4G
*Disable weather refreshing and leave it to manual refresh
*Disable wallpaper scrolling and animations if possible in the launcher
That's all I can think of at the moment.

so i have been using set cpu with 2265 max, 729 min, interactive, test-iosched. settings....WITH the qualcomm batteryguru app...AFTER the app figured out how i use my phone, which took about 4 days. these are my current battery stats. please note the current time up and the % of battery left. granted i will tell you i have been at work all day and have not used it to call. i have used the camera, txt, my stock trading program, and chrome. but i think its fairly effective.

It is the amount of time the screen was on. Meaning you were looking at an on screen.
Sometimes, certain apps keep your device awake and increase the screen on time.
If you go to "menu > settings > battery", you can view what is using the battery. If you click on "screen on time", it will show you exactly how long the screen has been on.

Download the app Wakelock Detector from the Play Store.
Open it for the first time right after you unplug your phone
After some deep sleep occurs for awhile, open Wakelock Detector and select the icon in the top right to select "Wakeup Triggers"
This will show you which app waked the device when it was trying to sleep(=screen off) and how many times it waked it. Figuring out Google wakelocks will probably help you the most unless you have some poorly written or rogue app
A good start would be to remove ALL google apps that you don't use, and turn off google ads as well as notifications and scheduled checks within say...Play Store and Youtube and Gmail
I use the Qualcomm Snapdragon Battery Guru, seems to be working great for me. 15 hours with moderate to heavy use and I am at 10%

I just remove all bloat and anything else I don't use then I use greenify and gsam battery app and my battery will last a long time. As of now i have 17 hours on battery and still have 30%

GSAM Battery Monitor is also great to see what apps are using more juice. I prefer it over Better Battery Stats but I use both

Anyone get a TD SERVER app1.0 that drains battery? It's draining about 7% of mine. There's a long list of apps that it says uses it. Wondered if I could freeze it or leave it alone?
I use BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock detector to figure out what apps are eating my battery and then greenify to freeze them when they aren't in use. I've gotten great battery life with that combo on all my phones

yeah, sorry for not putting that on screen time in here...it was low...barely used the phone...maybe 2 hours. i just thought this was pretty cool on the S3, while it was a great phone, even if i didnt use the device at all using the same setcpu and battery guru i would get about 15 hours max out of it. i get about the same time as blitzed26 with decent use...about 15-17 hours which i am extremely happy with!
