Galaxy SII help needed - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, need some help, I'm going to root a friends gs2. It's from Claro
In Puerto Rico. I had copied the build number and stuff but I don't have them to paste them here, the model was GT-I9100, the kernel version was KE2. I want to know is, which of the two dev forums am I suppose to go, the one that says original or the other one. And I'm having a hard time figuring out where exactly do I start to root the phone (pardon me, Ive never flashed roms or kernels on gs device lol) thanks in advance ::thumbup::thumbdown::what:

Original dev is the main thread to look at. But did you bother checking out this link in general forums? It's right here on the first page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499331
Otherwise search for CF-Root which is the main thread for rooting. Learn to flash with Odin, learn to use CWM... But I won't search for you. You can find it yourself I think.

difference between android development and original development is simple. android development is roms basically with a slap on theme on it and original is well original.
read this thread here for better explanation between the two
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175660
as regarding unlocking bootloaders you do not have to as it is already unlocked..all you have to do is flash a cf-root kernel from chainfires thread.
here are links to help you better
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
above link is the chainfire thread to root and the bottom link read that first to get a better feel of rooting

[Q] need to root first, then flash flappjaxxx rom?

Hey guys, i'm a noob to the rooting/flashing rom world. i was going to wait for ICS to officially come out on att, but i'm tired of waiting.
my question is, do i need to root and then flash flappjaxxx rom? i see that in the descriptions, it says:
-Rooted with SuperSU included
does that mean i can just follow his instructions and my note will be rooted? or do i need to root first, and then flash?
thanks for any assistance!!
Did you see the sticky at the top of this section labeled "all in one noob guide"??? I think that may have what you're looking for. If you can't find it, you probably shouldn't flash. No offense meant by that, it's just that most problems people have and most bricks are caused by a lack of reading and following directions.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
The Flappjaxx rom is already a rooted ROM. What you need to do is flash CWM using ODIN.
Pls refer to the "HOW TO" guide in the dev section. Everything you need to learn is there.
everyone's gotta start somewhere. thanks guys!!

That's right. But just a word of advice... before asking, always remember to do the reading first and research. Then if something doesn't make sense to you....thats the time you ask.
Yes, everybody does need to start somewhere, and that somewhere is reading as much as possible.

If i use cf root to root my galaxy s3 i9300 will i be able to flash a custom rom? It says that the cf root was intended to be used with stock firmware in the main thread. Also how safe is it? If i follow the steps exactly as instructed what are the chances the phone will brick?

Yes you will.
It means it is meant to be used to root a stock Rom, after that you can do what you like. Cf root is extremely safe if you follow the instructions, which are very simple. If you do that you won't brick your phone

No, you only need to unlock if you want to use a different network, won't affect it otherwise
My question is after rooting and not changing anything else will you still be able to get the updates. I remember with the bionic I cou ld but not with the tbolt.
are you carrier branded as in US Carrier branded or something else?
If you're talking about a US Carrier branded phone, then you're in the wrong place. This is specifically for the i9300, not any other version. There are appropriate forums for your specific phone.
If you do have the i9300, then do as slaphead says. you're all set.

Oopsie daisy.... I could've sworn I read the whole thread from start to end.. Not sure how I missed that..
I think the word "carrier branded" set of red flags in my head since I was only recently reading about someone who tried to flash an i9300 rom with their sprint s3.
just wanted to make sure and not have to see another brick.

Please advise on rooting

Sorry to join the chorus of noobs asking for rooting advice when there are vids and threads galore, but I am finding this all confusing.
I have got my new S3 from the UK network Three, it is of the following spec:
Model Number = GT-I9300
Android Version = 4.0.4
Baseband version = I9300XXLH1
I would be grateful if someone could advise me of the simplest method I should use for rooting as I am confused.
I would love to also hear any suggestions on custom roms but obviously that is a secondary request!
Thanks to anyone who wouldn't mind advising me! :silly:
read the stickies in the general i9300 forum. All your questions will be answered there (including a step bu step rooting guide)
the only way that you can mess it up is if you think you're smarter than the guide and not follow it properly.

Thank you very much for your reply, unfortunately that method does not have the build version of my phone (IMM76D.I9300XXBLG8) on the list (it has XXBLG9 though lol).
Going to try XXBLG9 as it seems this is the suggestion in the tools thread. It is funny how in all these noob proof threads I follow to root my devices I always end up taking leaps of faith! I wish I had more acumen for this stuff!
Thank you very much for putting me on the right track all the same, I appreciate it!

Sgs2 ics 4.0.4 help!!

Hey,
So I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 to ICS 4.0.4 before 1-2 months. The new graphics and extra features looked really great at first, but 2 hours after using it on normal applications (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter.) It froze and did nothing, like literally just freezes at the screen it lagged on. This has been happening continuously for the past 2 months and I'm really sick of it, I upgraded my phone and my dad's one (both SGS2I9100) using Samsung Kies, ever since that, it just keeps freezing like 4 times a day and I have to take off my battery and re-put it so it can reset since nothing will do this.. The old the firmware I had was the really amazingly going well and never lagged even once (I can't remember which firmware though). I'm a total noob, I didn't and don't have my phone rooted or some stuff like that, expect downloading APKs off the internet lol.
I really want someone to help me in this, I know there must be a solution since I don't think I'm the only one who has been annoyed by this, specially when it happens on a daily routine. I searched over the forums and found nothing. I know there must be something talking about the issue but I'm too nooby to understand the article titles which might be a solution of my problem.
Please help me in my problem it really bothers me and xda is my last hope...
Thank you all.
Note: please use simple terms because I really won't understand, and if you do, please teach me them lol.
Well, first of all your up for some reading.
While you go from thread to thread you'll run into the world of ROMs and flashing.
The first thing you have to know is that your device comes with 4 things:
1) Hardware (dah)
2) Kernel (link between Hardware & OS)
3) ROM (OS)
4) Modem (Baseband for your country / Region)
You are actually on 4.0.4, It's Kernel is known to suffer the brick bug issue.
Flashing is used to get the best from your device, in relation to your personal user experience. You got plenty of options like Stock Roms and Custom Roms, as well as Stock Kernels and custom kernels.
When flashing stock roms you get the chance to get rid of your carrier stuff (bloatware and animation boot) by getting an unbranded ROM (samsung official stock rom), you can either go down to previous versions (Gingerbread, ICS 4.0.3) or even go up (Jelly bean leaked ROM). Carrier branded or not, it's just a matter of choice.
When flashing custom roms you get a whole lot of roms to choose from. The most common are CyanogenMod (CM), RR (revolution remix), Omega and etcetera. These roms take the best of the stock roms and leave the worst, so you'll get a more personalized experience.
When Flashing custom kernels your trying to get the best performance for your ROM, this means you can use a stock ROM with a custom kernel.
Modems are basebands that let your carrier network function in your region / country, so if you flash a modem, your network might not work, so you'll have to flash another modem and so on.
Check all that out and if you decide to go on flashing, we are here to help you on the easiest / safest way to do it.
rembember to read and re-read all first.
you did notice this is now your official post right?
Okay I kinda get it, can you kindly please send me links that will help my problem? I'd rather downgrade with Stock ROM than a costum one.
Another thing, will it affect anything that has to do with my Carier? and does my phone have to be rooted in order this to work? If so how can I?
Many thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
try sammobile.com
they have plenty of stock roms.
I'd personally advice you to get 4.0.3 stock ROM. What's you carrier? I could look it up for you while you learn about flashing/downgrade.
That's what I was thinking of too, and it's Orange IL (Israel)
I need you you to tell me how do it too please

When the guy doesn't read it was a good advice to start doing it, because it's not really allowed to ask everything that is allready asked so many times.
When he actually does read, but doesn't understand (which I don't think because he's asking basic question about steps he must take) then it's maybe better to rethink if he's really going to flash something because he doesn't know what he's doing

Why don't you just flash a stock rom through Odin? No offence but I'm serious, the lack of knowledge you show here by asking about Recovery to me seems to be a sign you shouldn't root it at all, and learn a whole lot more about flashing and more if you want to.
