Hi guys, I'm a new member of the forums and I'm quite new to smart phones and Android. I tried searching for posted topics but can't seem to find related information on what I'm trying to learn. Lemme go ahead and ask questions:
1. Is it safe to perform a factory reset on a rooted Motorola RAZR XT910? Will it boot up like normal afterwards?
2. If I perform a factory reset, will I have my Motorola RAZR XT910 unrooted?
3. Will factory reset clear data just on the "application" partition on my internal phone storage (8GB) or will it also wipe the data/files saved on the other 8GB?
Thanks.
Im trying to just figure how to do a factory reset??

1. Yes. 2. No. 3. Neither, it will wipe the /data partition, which contains user-installed apps and their data. You will need to wipe the internal storage or SD card manually from Settings/Storage.

I have a question for you, isn't there a way to run windows on Macs? Like an app or something? Sorry, I don't have a Mac, only a PC. But if you can run a windows program through an app for your Mac, this might help you unroot.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4158-rootunroot-droid-bionic/#post98074
I know it says for the Bionic, but I rooted my RAZR MAXX with the motofail method after the latest update, and PetesMotorolaRootTools worked to un-root it. Hope this helps you.
Or if you know someone with a PC, you might try asking them if they will download it.

I know I'm not the first noob with this problem, but I just can not find a practical solution anywhere. I haven't done much rooting since the original Droid (pre bloatware days). I rooted and uninstalled all bloatware on my Droid Razr. I did this when the phone first came out and there wasn't much documentation telling me not to do that. Irregardless, I cannot OTA now of course.
I can't find a default SBF that would just factory reset my phone, and I can't find a list of all the default applications that are on the Razr to reinstall them (if that would even work). Every post I came across was mid-December so I'm hoping there have been some break throughs since then that would provide an easy fix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
There's no SBF but there's Fastboot ZIP files which are just as good.

Can't you just do a factory reset though the phone itself? Menu/settings/privacy/factory data reset.

Nope, that just wipes the cache on the phone, doesn't reinstall or manage applications at all.

That worked great, updated OTA and it was successful. The Fastboot using RSD doesn't reinstall the bloatware apps though. Any idea how the OTA works without the apps being there?
It definitely does restore them..
Sorry for my ignorance. It did restore the applications like you said. It did not revert all of my settings, and I must have had them hidden prior to rooting my phone originally.
Thanks again for the help!

Hmm..Would this be applicable to both GSM and CDMA Razrs?
Don't think so... GSM version is not ready yet.

Also. If you have no external microsd, you can put zip into /cache and flash via stock recovery. just select "apply update from cache" (or something like that)
And don't forget to use OTA rootkeeper if you dont want to loose root

dont worry got it you need root explorer im a noob and i thought you could do it from your computer.
Can anyone confirm this working? Are there any bugs found so far?
Only bugs I've found are with the initial setup. After you first boot into JB you need to do another reboot to finish updating app databases, and also you need to clear backup assistant's data.
Before installing just clear cache guys , this is CDMA ONLY ....

I was using D-WiZ ROM (3.0.2) with BMM (3.0.2 also)... I erased my cid a few weeks ago ( I clicked on the backup but... it seems it didn't backed up :/ ) changed to latest EU ICS kernel and after noticing a battery drain with the ROM, I decided to fastboot to 4.0.4 so I could get everything back to normal... The process went okay but when it tries to boot... the black screen appears. I tried using BP tools but it's stuck at boot animation -.-
Any ideas? Thanks in advance <3

Ive faced this before. Also from d-wiz. But i can totally say its my fault. Dunno about u,but.
1) The custom recovery is gone because I didnt untick the reboot option in the last phase of rom installation.(The OP n even the aroma installer clearly state to untick, back to custom recovery 1st before 1st reboot)
2) I also face the black screen issue after flashing stock with rsd. But turn out when i flashed other rom, means, download another choice of rom but still for the region,it worked ok at last. Maybe u should try?

Did you tray another ICS OTA? I have my CID on dropbox and mail and other places, but I remember flashing to Stock ROM with RSD without CID and it boot
If you can enter into stock recovery, try wipe/format cache and factory reset. Then fastboot with rsd.
Then root your phone, but remember after it reboots (during root) to reboot using BPtool.
Then you can retore your CID. If you lose it, you can boot only using bptool or BMM wich can handle the missing CID
Try flashing a GB ROM with RSD Lite, then booting BP Tools.
Its my only suggestion.
But as long i know...if you lost your cid, you're screwed up bro.
I never had to worry about CID (i have a unlocked bootloader) but i still have a backup of it on my computer, googledrive, email and dropbox

If your phone shows the bootanimation, then I think there's no problem. Just make a factory reset from stock recovery and reboot.

Hello,
I moved from VERIZON to SPRINT about 6 weeks ago. My RAZR worked great while I was with VERIZON, I had no problems with the phone. A few days ago my MOM took my old RAZR into VERIZON to ask about activating it & she was told that the phone has been reported "LOST OR STOLEN". She came home raising HELL with me. I bought the phone brand new in the box from a friend, activated it with VERIZON for almost 6 months, & never had an issue. The phone was ROOTED w/ a CUSTOM ROM. I un-rooted the phone however it shows that BUSYBOX is still installed. I also still have a CUSTOM BOOT-ANIMATION installed. I want to know what I can do to REMOVE BUSYBOX, install the STOCK BOOT-ANIMATION, & have the phone COMPLETELY RE-SET so it looks as though it just came from the factory before I go into VERIZON & try to activate it for my Mom.
Thank you for any & all help.
Use RSDLite to flash the fastboot files of your region.
It will be as from the factory.
