ok well this is my first time trying to put install a custom rom on my phone but i just have a few questions. i have read all the stickies already but just need a little clarification. i havent quite decided on a rom yet but i know i want to try the siyah kernel. Do i install it through mobile odin?? and then do i do the same for the rom on my choosing?? im already rooted. and depending on the rom i choose, do i have to be on a specific firmware like on 2.3.4 or 2.3.6?? do i have to flash using mobile odin or cwm. i dont want to trip the flash counter. and last question i think, how do i get cwm, or is it already in the phone
First, please use more descriptive thread titles so people that actually search can find relevant info. This title is useless.
Second, all you asked about is covered in the FAQ and various stickies. You obviously did not read the one about not tripping the counter or you wouldn't have asked. CWM is included in almost every custom ROM and kernel. Reading would have told you that. I suggest you go back, read and forget flashing until you completely understand what you are doing. We are not here to bail you out of mistakes you make from not reading and understanding.

Don't ask, read. This is a self-service forum, not the Help Desk. No one in here is paid to give answers, that's why you need to find them for yourself and only ask when it is absolutely necessary. At this point, for you, it isn't as the answers are already here if you take the time to look.
then there wouldnt be a q&a section in the forum.

The existence of Q&A does not relieve you of following forum rules, which clearly state not to start new threads without first searching and reading the stickies. This is common understanding for almost all internet forums and something you agreed to when you joined XDA. Q&A is for the rare item not covered in the FAQ or stickies or found by doing a search. Your questions do not qualify.

Firstly you probably want a kernel with CWM. Siyah & Entropy both have that. Flash it in Odin (This you will have to look at stickies for) and you will gain root/cwm. Then choose a rom that is safe, I would say anything in the dev section that says 2.3.4-2.3.6. You don't have to match your version to the ROM. With the zip you download, enter CWM mode (look at stickies) and flashing it in there. You will now have whatever kernel they use with that ROM.
Want more info? Look in the stickies

I believe this thread has run its course....
As stated.. you can post in boards, but you only should do so AFTER searching/reading existing posts to see if your question is answered. There is no reason to make a whole new thread when there are plenty of guides and stickies out there with great info...

because the answer is in the thread
Plus this forum is full of lazy bastards who wont read page one wont search and expect others to spoon-feed them .
How the f&&& should i know the answer i would find the answer by reading the bloody instructions . Am i supposed to do that then post those instructions for him .
Thats compounded by self righteous fxxx that have no interest a=in anything but their own ego .We really need a kindergarten section .
Yes i am peed of with posters like you and incompetents like the original poster makes trying to help the genuine users a why the fxx should i bother .
Dont bother with your small minded reply you can answer the helps from now on you are promoted i retire defeated .

Gz for being ignorant...seriously...its so hard to give him a short answer instead of posting the whole thread etc...
It would be easier for you and for him if you just gave him a short reply...gosh
this section is already for questions
You search for the thread and link him to it...which was quite more work insteadt of saying "yes you can flash it via odin"
When I first started I had to learn everything by following instructions... To the letter. If I hadn't, I would have bricked my phone.
Just read the goddamn threads first... ****.

How do I get this? How do I flash this with odin? What do I tick in odin? PDA, phone? Why cant I flash speedmod in cwm?
...
JJE posted the thread and instructions. Above is something a newb not all newbs but some probably would of asked if you just answered yes. They hear words like odin, flash, etc etc without knowing how to use it and such.
However OP sounds as though he may know how to do this and just wanting clarification in which case yes would be enough. But if OP knew what speedmod kernel is then OP should have known the answer if they had read that thread.

Stop trolling this thread...as you can read from the OP you can see he already have flash knowledge cause he already flash the cf-root.. so why you treat him like a total noob..instead of saying yes..stop trolling
so epic how you ppl can be trolling someone...if you are annoyed by noobs then stop reading in the FAQ section....

Hi everyone I am Sean, and I just got my ATT SGS2 Yesterday. I think I followed a rooting guide for the non ATT one. The rooting was successful but my WIFI is down with no MAC Address, also I cannot seem to get any custom rom working.
Is there a way to get the Stock ATT Kernel so I can flash and start over. Is there a rooting guide specificly for the ATT version?
Thanks ahead of time!

If u flashed the wrong kernel, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294574. Not trying to be mean, but it took me less then a minute of skimming over the Android development section to find this.
Here is the normal rooting guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301682.

Please read *before* you post a question. There is a lot of information available on the XDA I777 forums. Please read all the stickies in the general section, as well as the library sticky in the development section. You've been on xda-developers for several years and made many posts, so you *should* know the forum rules. People here will be glad to help you if you do your part first, but if you are looking to have your hand held, you will probably get little help.

It's just that your questions are already answered in sticky posts in both the general forum and the development forum. I thought it would be better if you wnet and read the answers there rather than taking the time to write the answers all over again.
You clearly didn't read if you went and flashed something not meant for your device without VERY explicit instructions on what is OK to flash and how to flash it.

Actually as I have already explained I did read plenty, I found nothing in the Q&A Section, which is where a solution to a "Question" should be.
And the Guide I followed which was from XDA never once stated that it was only for the International version. Nor did it say it would not work for the AT&T version.
I have been with this community a long time and have never had someone as rude or unhelpful as you. Please do not reply to posts if you are not helping in anyway.
Even though you may have read threads in the Q&A section, a simple search would have pulled up the IMPORTANT threads taht are located in the Dev section that would have answered your questions... and why are they in the Dev section you ask? Because, when flashing anything to your phone like a rom or kernel, its considered DEVELOPMENT and you would have know that if you would have read.
Now go read some more and search. Thread closed.
Just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 AT&T with the Zedomax Kernel and it also flashed Clockworkmod recovery. Everything went great. Can I update the recovery using rom manager? I ask this because the GS2 combines the kernel with the recovery I think and to use rom manager for anything you must flash the recovery from rom manager. Coming from HTC phones where this was never a problem. Just don't want to screw anything up.
Thanks for any help,
Vinny

The forum has been changed radically in the past couple of days, and I'm not sure if this is still evident to new users, but it used to be plastered all over the forum. DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER WITH THIS PHONE.
In particular, you can not install ClockworkMod Recovery from Rom Manager, as it will not work. You must use a ClockworkMod Recovery that is integrated into the kernel. I would suggest that you flash Entropy512's Daily Driver kernel.
It still is plastered.. why don't new people follow the etiquette of any one new to anything that they should read the FAQs!
As you can see by the amount of posts and years I have been a paid member I am no rookie. As for reading before asking, I did. I even went to the search section and asked without any luck so being a long time paid member I thought I could ask without getting my ass chewed out. If you see by my question I already flashed a kernel with CWmod recovery. I asked if I could use Rom Manager to update the Kernel.
Thanks for the help.

To be honest, I didn't even look over in the left column to see your post count before I posted my answer. (I usually do.) However, from the way you worded your question, it is obvious that you are new to this phone and the I-777 forums, even though you are not new to XDA. Over the previous months, there have been a large number of questions asked that are already answered if the person had just read a little first. And your question about ROM Manager, in one form or another, has been one of the chief offenders. You say, "As for reading before asking, I did." But go to the sticky post in this forum, (or the one in the General forum or the similar one in the development forum as they're all about the same) and click on the link that says FAQ topic. You'll see what I meant in my previous post.
Don't get bent out of shape over this. You're an experienced member who can pitch in and help other folks out, so when you come around the forums, do that. The moderators are just asking us all to be responsible.
As mentioned before do not use room manager to flash roms kernels or whatever.you can use it to download different roms but even those can be corrupted or not finished a many users saw with the CM9 build that was posted there.

Nevertheless, had you read the main (and now only) sticky in here or in General, you would know not to use RomManager on this phone and would not have had to ask.
And with that, topic closed.
Search more people... please! Use Google, use XDA.. but SEARCH. REad the FAQ's before posting.. it is FORUM RULES.
Hey guys
I'm flashing the stock ICS firmware on my friend's S II, along with rooting it, and flashing CM9.
I did a search for ICS bootloader, and a lot of threads came up, but I'm just creating my own thread for my own specific questions.
- "Make sure you're running ICS bootloaders lower than LPH! (if you're unsure, flash the CM9 Resurrection Edition)"
That's from the CM9 Discussion thread in the General Section
First off, how do I determine which bootloader the phone is using? Second, how do I determine if the phone is running a bootloader higher than LPH? And if it is, from where do I install a lower bootloader and how do I flash it
I know the CM9 Resurrection Edition basically does everything for you, even if you have a bootloader higher than LPH, but its using PC Odin correct? And thats going to increase the binary counter, which I don't want. And Chainfire's triangleaway app does not work with cm9 yet.
Sorry for the questions, I'm using a Galaxy Note, and it seems like its just more straight forward than the S II, and don't really have that much time to go through the entire S II forum
and don't really have that much time to go through the entire S II forum
Agree 100% i dont have the time to search or read for you either or even ask in the CM threads .
jje
To flash a bootloader you have to use odin ...
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (CM9)
Should I flash the bootloader ?
You don't need to. There are currently no reports of issues having not flashed the bootloader. However, if you flash the ICS bootloaders, you can't reset the download count with a JIG any more.

You don't need to give snide remarks man. This site is for helping people out. I didn't ask you or anyone to search or read for me. I asked people who are already knowledgeable about your phone that can help me out without having to go through the entire forum. And no offense to the mods, but this forum seems very messy and unorganized. If you read my entire post, and in the beginning I said I made a search, but I need to make my own thread about my own way of asking specific questions.
Thanks anyways S II forum, I've already figured it out on my own.

Short answer
Doesn't matter what boot loader you are on
Triangle away works in cm9
Flash a ics boot loader before trying triangle away.
If you see serial in phone about status you are on ics boot loader.
