[Q] I9100P - Just a few questions! *ANSWERED* - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there
Orange are giving me the chance to upgrade to this little beauty in just 2 months time.
My girlfriend's mother had this as an upgrade and I noticed she received the "P" variant which has NFC.
I hate the stock ROMs on Samsung and love the custom ROMs you guys push out and was just wondering:
- Can you use I9100 ROMs?
- If so, are there any issues I need to look out for due to being a different variant.
Cheers!
Jordan

Yes you can but you'll wont have the use of NFC

Thanks mate!
Anyway to enable it in the future?
No worries if it cannot!
Cheers
Jordan

Just flash a firmware from the i9100P range as it stands for now.. enjoy
Note you can use the french firmware their P seems to get updated quicker...

I'll pass on that one!
No worries, I'll stick to credit card and the good old bluetooth (which I hardly use anyway).
Thanks for your help!
Have a good day

[q] help on a shw-m250k for philippines

Hi,
Good day to everyone.
Could you help out with a unit I bought which is a S2 SHW-M250K? I'm a residence in the Philippines but unfortunately the device is limited in certain features. Like creating a SMS is limited to 90 characters and thus prompts MMS not available. Upon the call feature, is always goes to autoroaming. Its really annoying and a hassle for me.
Is there a way I could totally reformat the whole system and install a new one that is compatible here in the Philippines or like the standard look of a S2 l9100?
If there is, could you give a step-by-step procedure cause I really don't know the "how-to" with phones, flash ROM or anything that pertains to his matter.
Hope for a assistance.
Thanks.
Jan from the Philippines
i have the same phone in the same country and i don't have either of your issues. the reason is because i flashed a stock i9100 rom to my shw m250k so now it's basically an i9100 phones with an antenna but doesn't have an fm radio. anyway, if you haven't tried flashing before i suggest you read up on some guides. there are some here and more can be found on google. i don't want to give you one myself in case your phone somehow gets bricked (almost impossible though) btw the rom i'm using is the european kg6 one. no issues at all
OT: since we have the same unit, i want to know how long your battery lasts. mine just barely touches 12hrs before it's completely drained, i don't know if it's an isolated case or if all m250k's are the same. i'm using a replacement 1800mah battery though, so that might be the reason. i just don't want to spend money on an original one yet just to find out it's the same story.
hi fyre31,
GREAT!!!! Really appreciate your technical advice on this predicament. Though I don't the "how-to's" on flashing or rooting on this device.
Haven't tried the unit yet but if ever I flashed it I'll give you a feedback on the battery thing.
Thanks again.
Jan
We have the same phone in the same country, regarding battery life, mine got 30 hours with the stock battery on normal use, I'm currently using LiteningRom v5.0
hmm guess i'm gonna have to get myself an original samsung battery then. thanks for sharing

yeah, I guess the rom and kernal is the main factor with regards to battery life, and also I forgot to mention, I disabled fast dormancy on *#9900# and wipe battery stats in recovery mode

You have no idea, this post of yours is my savior! I tried different roms and they caused my phone to have a boot loop. Now I have Lite'ning Rom v6.1 and it's rooted and has a custom rom without the bloatware in one go. Loving it so far!
For those who need help, these are the steps I followed (don't blame me if something goes awry on your phone though...)
Follow the steps here: http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/04...ng-odin-and-superoneclick-step-by-step-guide/
Except! After Step 2, press the volume up button. And then On step 5, instead of the "XWKDD_insecure.tar", replace it with the latest Rom you can download in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274.
By the way, if it wasn't obvious, I have the same predicament as everyone else. I bought the phone before it was officially released in the Philippines, and it was imported from Korea. My phone has an antenna... and it serves nothing other than make my friends laugh because it makes the phone look like some cheap brand, haha My version had M250K before I installed the custom rom.

S2 NFC

Hi there,
Got a new Galaxy S2 NFC on Orange today. With the stock ROM the NFC was working fine (showing as active etc.). I rooted and installed R3MOR3MA.V.3.5 purely because I wanted rid of the Orange branding and a little bit more control over settings etc. (Come from CM7 on a Desire). However, it seems I've lost my NFC completely. I started to look into this and it seems the main differences are the following lib files:
libnfc.so
libnfc_jni.so
There's also these lib files missing which I don't think effect the NFC.
libganril.so
libkineto.so
librilswitch.so
Beside that there appears to be a permissions file, Nfc.apk and Tag.apk missing from the custom ROM. I've tried pushing the lib, permissions and apk files to the custom rom and enabling the NFC option in setting.apk. This didn't work and resulted in a greyed out NFC option. I don't know what to try next, I won't be going back to stock firmware but having NFC back would be nice!
Any takers?
Nathan
I'm sorry to pose a question on your thread, but ist there a version of the Galaxy s II ( GTI9100) without NFC? I think mine does not have it...

The only thing of use I could really tell you:
CSCVersion.txt -> ORAKI3
SW_Configuration.xml -> I9100PORA
It was an orange branded rom based on 2.3.5.
Nathan
I'm pretty sure the nfc is on the battery pack. Can you confirm?
Hopefully it's just a case of buying an nfc battery for older devices

No, you will need a sgs2 with a nfc chip too. Battery is just for the antenna. Nfc sgs 2 are branded citizi from Orange in france, don't know if same name is used internationaly. You also need a SIM build for Nfc.

The SGS2 with NFC (Cityzi ?) just doesn't have the same software as normal SGS2. You won't be able to NFC with custom roms from this forum. Maybe you could fine some stuff on google about some custom roms for this device but I doubt there's been much developing with it.
Good luck
Thanks for the reply. Considering I have a full back up of the original rom, how difficult would it be to manually strip out all of the daft Orange apps and implement some of the changes in the custom ROM? The features such as Bravo engine, ICS transitions, CRT effect, power menu etc. all appealed to me. Without over simplifying this, couldn't I just merge the two?
Nathan
I would say quite hard. I've been looking around a bit and I couldn't find much :
Very few people have this version of the sgs2, and it looks like nobody's developing on it. What I would try to do if I was you would be to flash a Korean firmware. I read some people installing it on international and everything went fine (and it looks like the only difference between european NFC SGS2 and international SGS2 is NFC, and same for Korean/International). So maybe Korean SGS2 and your are the same, but remember you're doing it at your own risk and it might not be safe.
Let us know how it went if you try tho !

[Q] NFC on Galaxy S II

I have the GT-I9100P Galaxy SII from Orange in the UK (Just got it today in fact)
-The one with NFC inbuilt
-It has come with the orange ROM which I personally don't like, pushes a lot of apps on me etc.
-But my model of the S II has NFC Capability while others do not.
I know that I could put any standard ROM on the phone, and would therefore lose NFC, but was wondering if I put an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM on (The insanity one looks quite appealing at the moment) would the NFC work? since this is supported natively by ICS (or so I have been told)
I would post in the insanity forum but I have only just made my account and cannot post there yet (Long time reader, just never needed to post before)
Any advice or help anyone could provide would be amazing
-I have tried searching the forums for any mention, but nothing for specifically ICS and NFC
I would say no, as it's a leaked version I would wait for an official version of ICS before trying this.
ICS
But even if it is a leaked copy of ICS, I thought the fact that it is ICS means that it must run NFC?
That's my confusion, there is no mention of NFC on teh ICS roms, since most of the phones running them dont even have that capacity, so maybe they wouldn't know
-Hence my question. Has anyone tried? (Anyone braver than me anyway )
-From reading some of the other topics I seem to have gleaned the opinion that if i flash my NFC-capable phone with a non-NFC capable ROM, even if i flash back I will have lost the NFC?
-Can anyone comment on this?
hoblet said:

Its not ICS its a leaked beta test rom .
You are going to have to wait for Samsung to release ICS to know this stuff .
As to losing NFC possible the Orange forums would have more information .

ICS
Ahh right, I thought this was the full ICS not a beta
-Will wait the month or so for ICS then, but still then get a stock ROM from here rather than wait for Orange to offer the update.
Thanks for your advice
Also it has been reported that NFC will not work with custom roms and rooted phones as there is a security issue.
thanks
Definately a good job I didnt flash then
Ill wait for official release then I guess
Thanks once again to everyone who has helped me on this

Advice from fellow Galaxy S2 users please!

Hi all, after some advice from fellow S2 owners...
Okay, so I have a UK sim free galaxy S2 which I recently updated to ICS with the OTA update, and it looks great but man it drains the battery!. Anyways Ive always thought about doing my first root and trying another rom, and after this update it has made me think about it more- so I have a few Q's:
1. Obviously warranty springs to mind, I know you can reflash back to stock etc, but what happens if I drop 'my precious' and the screen cracks and I cant use the display to flash back before claiming on insurance?!! is there a way where I can just plug the S2 into USB and control the whole thing from the PC? basically, is there a failsafe plan of some sort??
2. MIUI has always caught my eye, does anyone use the ICS version day in, day out and is it now reliable and fully functional now the official ICS sources are out?
3. How dows MIUI ICS / Cyanogen compare to Stock rooted ICS for speed & battery life?
4. Do many of you use custom kernels? and if so which have proved good for your build?
Thanks in advance - just narrowing down my options and any info & advice will be much appreciated...
Cheers
Vis.
bump... any advice?

[Q] Korean Galaxy S3 SHV-E210S ???

HI,
I'm thinking on buying a Korean Samsung Galaxy S3 since it is cheap and it has a 2 gb of ram memory ( a friend of mine is selling).
However, I wanted to ask first if I would be able to install the custom roms that are available for the generic model like i9300 or i9305.
Does it mean that I will only have to wait for some developer to make something special for this model since i dont like the current ones that are listed in a Official Korean SIII thread.
Also are there any hardware changes that i will run into problems?
Thank you for your replies/
You need to have ROMs specifically made for the SHV-E210 (K/L/S).
Take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III#Model_variants
You'll notice that the SHV-E210 has the same 4-core CPU as the I9300, but different memory config (2Gb) and different radio (it has 4G LTE).
These are proper ROMs for your device:
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SHV-E210S
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SHV-E210K

You might want to take a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749214
Yes unfortunately i saw that thread before posting it and that's what it made me open this question to the xda members.
It seems that there are only a few which are lagging at some point and it seems that it has a different 4G antenna which might bring me problems.
The price for this device is around 480 euros so still don't know what to do?
Recommendations ???

If you can affort the 480 euros, and it is a genuine device, get it.
Keep in mind that "lagging" is quite a subjective term: what appears to be snappy to someone might feel laggy to another person.
The Korean devices are up to par with the I9305 devices and one of the best S III hardwares out there. It is more powerful than the regular, international I9300 we usually have.
Besides, after you root and remove some of the crapware that is installed by default on most roms, you get a much better performance out of the stock ROM.
Im sorry of "lagging" might have sound a bit harsh. I'm an Android fan and i totally agree with you that it is one of the most powerful mobile phones out there. I was also referring previous to the available custom roms that are there.

This is also one of the comments that i found on "
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941490&highlight=korean&page=2
" which made me think about the accessories two. Why would this version have different accessories?
Personally what would you do in this case ???
I live in Europe by the way
If you're looking to just use the phone in its original state or just rooted, I'm indifferent. If I'm looking to flash custom roms on it, I'd go with I9300 or I9305.
Korean version has a DMB (TV) antenna on it I think. So the case would make a little hole somewhere so you can take the antenna out. Apprently it's a little thicker than I9300 but the case for I9300 should fit as well.
There's also an issue with whether the Korean models work on your network of choice. Better check first.
Is the??
Is the features of korean version & international version the same? Like the factory code tests, screenshot trick ETC? Thanks guys. More power

I just got the SHV-E210 used.... the phone is in great shape, but I'm curious - it only has 4.0.4 on it. Will this phone get an OS upgrade?
I'm either in Israel or the UK (if that matters).
Also, there seems to be a TON of software that I really don't want on it - how can I get rid of this stuff? I'd basically like to turn it into as close to a Nexus as possible.
Sorry for all the noob questions... thanks for your help.

Yes you can update it to 4.3, I am using SHV-E210S in India and updated it to 4.3.. Also rooted using cf-auto root and removed all unwanted apps.
Download the latest from Sammobile for your model, and flash it using Odin.. Root using cf-auto root and use Titanium Backup to freeze all unwanted apps. Beware,Only freeze the apps which do not affect the normal function of phone.

Only soft cases for S3 will fit for SHV E 210 L. U can try it before purchase.
Other hard cases will not, because Korean models are thicker by ~ 0.5 mm, hence the cases not fit.
