hey guys, so i just got the motorola xoom full size bluetooth keyboard today, adn i wanna pair it with my view. i read on here that people only got it working by pairing it in PC mode, which takes away functionality of some buttons. anyone have any way to pair this thing through the true android way?
basically, when i pair, a dialogue comes up with numbers to put in on the kb then hit enter, but the dialogue goes away after 1 second, and thats not enough time to do anything...it just won't stay up. anyone else have any luck with this?
ALSO, when you type, it still uses auto correct from my keyboard..which is pretty annoying. how do you bypass the software keyboard 100% when your hardware is hooked up? thanks!

AHHH!!!! I thought that was just me!!! I bought mine used from Amazon marketplace, so when I saw the pairing issues, I thought it was just defective and that was why they were selling it used. But then I paired it in PC-mode and it worked, so I thought the pairing issues were just a fluke. Hah! Good to see it wasn't just me! Awesome!
As for your question about the View still using auto-correct, I haven't experienced that at all. However, I use Swype as my default keyboard. Perhaps it is an issue with the default keyboard (or whichever one you're using). Try switching Input Methods to a different keyboard?
And to your point about the Android-specific buttons not working because we had to pair in PC mode --- ahhhhhh, no wonder! I just thought it was because those buttons worked ONLY for the Xoom. I paid no attention to it after the first day and I'm happy with my purchase even without the Android keys working, because a) all the other keys work just fine, b) I can type infinitely faster with the full keyboard, and c) I got a great deal on it since I got it used. But it would be nice to have them working.
Anyone else have any idea about how to fix the the Android-specific buttons or pairing without using PC mode?
cool! glad others are doing what i'm doing haha...and yeah, it stopped auto correcting for a bit...then somehow turned itself back on..grr

I am not sure how many of you out there share the same desire to have a thin/small wireless keyboard to go along with your beloved GTablet. I have a netbook carrying bag that barely fits the dimensions of the Gtab and I wanted a keyboard that matches that width to fit in the bag. The apple wireless keyboard is exactly 11 inches wide and the Gtab is 10.5, close enough in my case.
I am running TNT Lite 4.4.0 and decided to buy and connect the bluetooth keyboard with little initial success. I am not an android developer, but don't give up easily and am happy to report that I finally got it to work. Here is how:
1) Download free app called Bluetooth Keyboard Easyconnect
2) Turn on bluetooth
3) Turn on Apple keyboard
4) Scan for bluetooth devices on GTab
5) Pair to Apple Keyboard after it is discovered
6) Enter a pin into your GTab, (ex. 0000) and then OK.
7) Quickly, while it is trying to connect, enter the same pin into the Apple Keyboard and press Return. They will now be "paired but not connected"
8) Open Bluetooth Keyboard Easyconnect and it will take care of the connecting part.
Hope this helps someone.
Absolutely. I futzed for 30 minutes before giving up yesterday, I could get it paired but not connected. Thanks for the info!
I was able to connect a Logitech DiNovo mini using this info. The touch pad worked too but was erratic.
Are you able to get the greater than/less than symbols (< >) to work? I have a bluetooth palm keyboard and can't seem to get these characters to come up. Instead it gives me a semi-colon and colon.
opnscraddict,
I hadn't tried that one yet, but you are right. < and > don't seem to be working. Everything else I tried works though. Hmmm, maybe one of the paid keyboard apps would provide a key re-mapping functionality. I think I can live with it the way it is though, and use the onscreen keyboard when necessary for those two characters.
Works for Bluetooth mouse
I've also used EasyConnect to get my bluetooth mouse working. I was in the same situation with my mouse as the keyboard - it would pair but not connect.
I'm working on replacing my school laptop with my GTab and I need those keys for my C++ class. I found a thread on how to customize the key mapping, I'll try it when I get home today. Link
Does your bluetooth keyboard reconnect automatically when you turn on bluetooth without any interaction? I couldn't get mine to connect again after the first time.

I think you are going to regret that decision.
Right, I'm not entirely sure on how feasible it is. However, the majority of my time on my school laptop is spent on Facebook, Onenote and Visual Studio. The battery life and weight advantages of the Gtab make it an attractive replacement.
I can confirm that by following the instructions that I linked to in my previous post I was able to remap the keys to enable the greater than and less than signs.
Huh?

How are you going to install Visual Studio on the gTab?
I am going to access my workstation at home through rdp. I've tested the scaling and latency and it is pretty seamless. I also considered trying to run Ubuntu through VNC locally on the tablet and just using a linux IDE. With this keyboard workign 100%, this seems in the realm of possibility now.
Ah... gotcha. I use LogMeIn Ignition to access my laptop from my gTab. I used to have to carry that laptop around on trips and now I just take my gTab.
finally gave up
I tried for a whole half a day to get my Apple wireless keyboard to work. I'm using Vegan.
I finally gave up when I just plugged my full sized Dell keyboard in, and it worked like a charm without any issues at all. I'm just going to go hunt for a mini USB keyboard and I will be more than satisfied with that.

Whenever I connect my mini bluetooth keyboard, a mouse pointer comes up in the middle of the screen. The keyboard doesn't have any controls for the mouse (I think) and there is no way to get rid of it without disabling the bluetooth keyboard.
Does anyone know of anyway to disable the mouse pointer or hide it somehow? I am on 2.3.3

EDIT: Changed ROM to Exynos Extreme 3.2, mouse pointer gone now
Yea, I have the same issue... Anyone know of a fix?
Not a fix as such ...
I have one of the cheap EBay bluetooth keyboards but I don't have this problem. In other words, my keyboard identifies itself to the phone just as a keyboard, your one obviously claims to be a mouse as well.
I'd say you have 2 options:
Maybe, just maybe, somewhere in Settings -> Wireless and network ->Bluetooth Settings under Bluetooth devices, you will be able to modify the settings for your keyboard: Press and Hold the device and click on options. I have a tickbox for "HID device" only - you may have something else for pointing device?
Maybe your keyboard has a mouse-type device on it. Assuming there isn't a obvious d-pad somewhere, maybe it's a 2-key combination involving the use of some "magic" key along with the arrow keys. If you can figure it out, then just move the pointer out of the way, and you're good!

Unfortunately I only have one profile in the bluetooth settings as well. There is a D-pad on the keyboard on the WASD keys but when using them all it does is cycles through the context menus.
Is there an app that would allow me to control the mouse pointer by touch or by binding the directions to keys on the keyboard? I've searched but found zilch
I have exactly the same problem on a galaxy s 1 with gingerbread and would love to know of a fix. I tried to find an app to move the pointer to the right edge of the screen but I couldn't find anything.
I have the exactly same problem as you all. I've got a Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.3.3 on it and a keyboard which identifies itself as "Bluetooth mini Keyboard" (cheap from ebay). It works as it should, but there's this annoying mouse pointer in the middle of the screen and I have no idea how to disable it -.-
I guess I'm just going to have to invest in a decent keyboard/controller until this issue is resolved, does anyone know of any good ones specifically for NES and PS1 emulators and the like
I've fixed this now, if anyone is having the same problem I noticed the mouse does not appear when using the Exynos Extreme ROM.

Great to hear that there is a fix for this...
But as that ROM is for SGS2 owners I just wounder if anyone got
rid of this issue on a SG I9000?
Would be great with an easier fix than flashing with a specific ROM,
evnt though I think I'll do that if that's the only route to go!
(running DarkyROM 10.2EEF ATM)
Thanks in advance!

Apparently the mouse pointer is hard coded with samsung roms. There are a few non-samsung roms out there that have a pointer.png in the framework.apk that could be edited, but unfortunately samsung roms do not have this png. I've scoured several apk's in the system folder and none of them have it. I've also searched and installed every possible app in the market that may have been able to move the pointer, but none of them worked. They were mostly wifi apps to control a PC mouse.
I've been trying to resolve this issue for weeks and have come to the conclusion that no one knows or cares to take the time to figure it out. I even got in a fight with someone because he felt I was the only one with this issue and was complaining that there wasn't a fix.
There's a bunch of bt keyboards out there that cause the mouse pointer to appear, so there's a strong chance that someone with some technical skill will be able to resolve it someday...probably after the "official" gingerbread release. In the meantime, try to find the cheapest bt mouse you can get your hands on and move it out of the way.
Anyone else having problems with the swype keyboard not responding? Every now and again the trace stops working, and i when i switch between letters and numbers the keyboard doesnt do anything...
this has been addressed many time. there's a bug in the swype with the phone. to get the tracing to start working again you will have to change your input method (keyboard) then change back to swype.

I have the same problem right now as well, as a sprint ASC tech I have no solutions from HTC or Sprint. The switching input methods doesnt work for me on my device and neither does restarting the device. My phone is stuck like this.
The problem is with swype from what ive been told though, I hope they update their crap soon.
have noticed this as well. i thought I was doing something wrong at first.
get ultra keyboard, it blows swype outta the water. it does tracing better too if you want that
Anyway to disable that annoying accent character popup when typing on a bluetooth keyboard?
I'm using a TP with CM7 3.5 with a Motorola BT KB. I'v googled this to death and haven't found any solutions.
I tried null keyboard. Don't work.
Can't find anything in settings.
Anyone know?
Thx
I have the same issue with the motor kbd. I believe the issue is in the kbd software not the tp.

I called Motorola and Logitech (I have both keyboards and have the same issue with both) about the popup boxes. Both companies told me that it is a function of the operating system and is not hard coded into the keyboards. They said we should look into a software solution as the keyboard does not have the accent popup feature. Maybe this is a thing for the devs.

Thx
I just noticed you get a accent box popup when long pressing the on screen keyboard.
There has to be some way to change this.
thabksssssss
I installed the Go Keyboard app and no longer get the accent box popup.
I just wish there was an app that would get rid of it. Or someone figure out how change the setting in Android.
I like using the BT KB with null keyboard. Which has no onscreen keyboard.
When using a BT KB with go keyboard, holding the shift does not capitalize letters. You have to tap the shift key once to capitalize. You can't hold it. I emailed the authors to try to get them to fix that.
I tried a few other addon keyboards and they all have that stupid popup.
My wife's android phone with a physicial keyboard phone gets the same accent popup.
The BlueInput soft doesn't have that problem.
I think you needed to pair the keyboard with their software and not with the buildit android one, but after that it doesn't show the annoying pop when long press on the keyboard keys.
I use it with one of those mini BT keyboards and works fine.

YES! This works properly! Thx a LOT!
BlueInput doesn't work reliably. Mouse would not work with it. Uninstalled.
8(
Only tried with the crappy keyboard, but good to know that it doesn't pick the mouse.
I'm guessing the batteries in my mouse were almost dead. Even without Blueinput installed, mouse would not stay connected. I'v only had this mouse since Saturday. It came with Everready Energizers. This Motorolla mouse has an indicator that is supposed to flash orange when the batts are low, it didn't. So I thought they were still good.
After reading some reviews on some BT mice, some said the batts died really fast. So I installed some fresh duracell's today and mouse is working fine. I'll keep the switch off when not using it this time.
So I reinstalled Blueinput and just connected the KB through it. Left the mouse connected through android. I'm pretty sure the mouse would work through Blueint now with the fresh batts.
Just got myself a new BT keyboard with an integrated mouse, as you said, when paring/connecting using the BlueInput driver the mouse doesn't work which kind of sucks 8)
I found some another driver does appear to work fine (at least it allows me to use both the keyboard and mouse at the same time without the annoying "accent" popup window.
BlueKeyboard JP

Still need to test a play a little bit more (see which layout fits my keyboard) but I think is more usable with this driver than the original/build-in CM7 one.

Works well. I have seen this before. Not sure why I didn't try it. Maybe I thought it was Japanese only. IDK. Tried so many.
Are you getting this when clicking on an iput box?
The setting of "selected keyboard" is not found.
It still works everytime. Just weird.
Oh I figured out that error. I had to actually select the kb in Bluekeyboard JP settings. I didn't select it before. I could see it there. I though it was already selected. It wasn't.
Another thing I noticed. When you select your BT KB in "Connecting process" in Bluekeyboard JP settings, everytime you click on an input box, there is a message box saying "connecting.. don't touch the keyboard yet". The KB still worked while that message was displayed.
I got rid of that by unchecking "Connecting process" in settings.
So now it works with no message boxes.
Blueinput JP FC's on every boot...
I normally use Hacker's Keyboard and change to the BT one when I connect the extenal keyboard,
just done a quick reboot and no FCs.
Still I think is good enough for me, I read somewhere than since Android 3.1 the keyboard is handled a litlle diferente (no more bin files for each keyboard, just plain text) so maybe whenever ICS is out we can have a better option 8) (xmast wish hehe)
Bluekeyboard JP works perfectly on CM9! No more FC's. Reconnects nicely.
I mistakenly called it Blueinput JP a couple of posts above.
Do any of the ICS ROMs available on XDA have Voice Command that will work with a BT headset?
Or has anyone found an app that enables you to voice dial from a BT headset? I've scoured the forums and haven't found a solution that works for my AT&T Galaxy S2.
I'm running Serendipity and it doesn't have it. I've also tried Vlingo and Cyberon without success. Shocking that Google wouldn't carry voice command over from GB!!
I just found a vlingo apk that is really the Samsung Voice Command from GB ported to ICS. It works well.
I've attached it for those interested.
I think that was something samsung messed up, not sure though

Follow up for Voice Command
I have been testing the Voice Command apk I attached in my previous post and it works well except for one fairly big problem. Voice Command doesn't work when my phone's screen is off. As soon as I turn on the screen by pressing the Power button (but with the lockscreen still on), VC works fine.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately I don't have any ideas...I'm in the same boat. I'm using the samsung VC app (pulled from sammy ICS - I posted it up for someone, somewhere a while ago) on Task/Ktoons AOKP. It works perfectly fine launching from the BT headset button if the screen is on, but it won't wake the screen - I haven't been able to get it to work on any custom ROM actually...
Hmmm...now that you brought this up, I wonder if it's possible to integrate this into a tasker profile to make the BT headset button wake the screen, then launch VC?
Thanks for getting me thinking...guess I have an idea after all...

Which BT headset are you using (I just bought the Blueant Q2)? I was hoping that it wasn't just my headset, so I wouldn't have to return it.
Let me know if you can figure it out.

Well, digging around in tasker, it appears it does not have a Bluetooth button trigger. Or if it does, I'm looking in the wrong place for it. I haven't actually tried, but it appears to be possible to force the phone either to screen off awake state, or full screen on awake upon bt connection. This would at least automate the process upon initial Bluetooth connection followed by an immediate call. Doesn't fix the problem of a user wanting to initiate a call on a stable idle connection though... gonna keep digging a little more.
I'm using an LG headset I got for 6 bucks from newegg 2 years ago. More reliable and better battery life by far than the 2 previous 70 dollar motorolas...

I didn't really grasp what you are talking about, but I'll take your word for it.
BTW, I did a search on appbrain for 'screen timeout' as I thought there might be something useful to you. Here's the link:
