not to be rude but thats kinda what you gotta do is make a night of it and dl the roms you wanna try out and just see what you think of each one.... ive ran 2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1 and personally i like conap roms, all of his stuff has been super reliable for me...all the roms out there are gonna be snappy and quick it just comes down to your own prefrence, i might like vanilla and you might like sense.

sense or any other type of rom it doesn't really matter to me. I am just looking for the fastest and most reliable rom.
Its all personal preference, and downloading/testing a few is your best option to find the fastest/clean running ROM for you. Some Eris' act up on certain ROMS whereas others wont. Ill personally tell you that my phone was laggy and force closed alot when I used some of the Eris 2.1 sense ROMS, even with overclocking. Keep in mind though that I was the only person having those problems on ROMS that worked great for many. Now I run CM Froyo ROMS and those tend to satisfy my needs. IMO Nonsesikal has worked best for me, particularly Vanilla 13.7. That version isnt on the ROM thread either. You'll have to go to the thread, click to download an older version, and it'll take you to the site that has all versions for download. Give 13.7 a shot if you'd like, but remember that it may take a few ROMS before your happy.

I liked nonsensikal as well. I just rely on my phone a lot, and with the Froyo ROMs, I invariably run into a bug that I don't have time to workaround, so I switch back to xtrSense. It's fast and its stable. Thats why I like it. But I do have a wandering eye.

thanks. anyone else
i been using froShedYo and it works perfect for me.. best rom ive used by far
I've said this elsewhere but I'll repeat it. +1 xtrSENSE or xtrROM. They were so good that they are what remained on my phone for the longest periods of time (3-4 months) and the ONLY reason that I moved on from them is that they worked so well (i.e., reliable) that I was bored and wanted to tinker more. LOL. I'm very serious, though.
If I had to choose one over the other, I'd probably choose xtrSENSE. Or at least start with that and if you get comfortable enough with that, you could move to xtrROM later.
I like xtrSense too. It's just fast without the extra bugs or anything. The only bug I have is the 50% cell time standby bug but I think that's dependent on the phone.
CELB most definately if you like CM and Froyo.
FroShedYo is a tie, if you want something customized/themed. V6 is my fav. Haven't tried V7 yet, but I would guarantee its stable, fast and it has the same theme as V6. Also the purple is really cool. That's what my wife is using.

Hey all. Developer of several roms and tools here. Planning on working on the amaze 4g. So I've come asking your opinions.
What do you want in a rom?
What are the biggest issues you have with your current setup?
What are the features you'd like to see in a kernel?
What are the current issues you have with your kernel?
Please note I do not currently own an amaze. My girlfriend does, but I can not always test on her device. This will have to be a community effort for testing.

First off, hell yes and thanks for coming over.
We have multiple Sense 3.0, one 3.5, and an ICS WIP...
I would love to try MIUI or AOSP. Even a solid 3.5 would be nice.
Long battery life and snappy UI always preferred.
Thanks again!

****...what don't we want in a ROM?
Is there any way you can help with some of the WIP Ports found on this section. I would like to test those out.
We have way too many Sense 3.0 ROMs. Don't get me wrong, they're all pretty good, but like the members who have already posted before me, AOSP is what this phone really needs right now.
In a ROM, the first thing I look for is performance. Since I always run third party launchers such as GO Launcher Ex and ADW Launcher Ex over HTC Sense, the ROM needs to be able to be smooth while on those launchers (some ROMs lag like hell on these launchers when wallpaper scrolling is turned on). The second thing I look for in a ROM is the miscellaneous stuff such as theme, icons, Beats, DSP manager, etc. Battery life is pretty important too.
The biggest problem in my current set up is the lack of fluidity. Yes, the phone is fast, but with the Sense ROM framework, I feel that the Amaze's speed can never be as fast as if it were on an AOSP ROM. I also found that the video playback on YouTube often lags, which is really a pain in the ass.
Currently, we only have one kernel other than stock, which is Faux's kernel. It works for some ROMs and doesn't for others, so I usually just stick with stock. I do miss the under/overclocking and undervolting though.
I'm not sure how many people share my opinions regarding this subject, but I hope I've been some help. Anyways, glad you're planning to develop for the Amaze!
Hell yeah, bring the Amaze Dev Forum back to life <(-_-)> !!
What do you want in a rom? AOSP ROM
What are the biggest issues you have with your current setup? Battery Life/LCD Bleed/Sense ROM's
What are the features you'd like to see in a kernel? OC/UV - Govenor Options
What are the current issues you have with your kernel? - Above
AOSP for sure.

Great to have another developer welcome! and thanks in advance.
here are some of my suggestions as I have tested more than a few of the limited amount of roms available for the amaze.
1. I think the most important things that we want to get out of a rom and kernel here is, first a good, sorry a great battery life and possible more free ram (beastmod does a great job of this). I have tried a lot of roms but battery is an issue with all of them and the difference is marginal.
2. We have lots of roms that incorperate sense UI's, and sensless UI's I would like to see a rom that incorporates another UI.
3. All the roms I've tested seem to have the basic enhanced notification quicksettings and advanced power menu. I would like to see a tweaking tool or tweaking in the settings for being able to tweak a lot of things...such as turning on HW accelleration. Lockscreen settings, (icon grid tweak, ie put change the number of icons both in drawer and in the main home screens, I know there are third party launcher, but it would be great if this was built into the rom), just lots of tweaking, look at adwlauncher ex and go launcher ex and maybe there are some good ideas there. just as much tweaking and advanced tweaking as possible , both hardware and software related.
4. A different and more customizable and tweakable dialer, something like we see in CM 7.
5. I can't think of anything else right now!!! I'll post more if i can think of any
One thing I'd like to see is the features find in aokp and from romanbb. I think he works mostly on the SGS2, but those tweaks (mainly notification bar with time, quick settings, colors, etc.) would be awesome.

1st of welcome to the community, and try to get people's opinions.
as you can see me and a lot of guys would like to see MIUI and AOSP rom witch are different from sense
somebody here is working on a cm7 rom and for a aosp rom i prefer cm7 because its tmobile theme chooser app, and with cm7 you can run miui.
it would be nice to port others roms like a good sense 3.5,3.6 or sense 4
many of us are waiting on ICS, but i can wait longer with that.
oh and man had you seen all the tweaks from the sensation?
like the blueray cam feature or the bravia feature?
plus other tweaks from settings like coredroid?
Plus one to all the things!

i'd like to see MIUI, MIUIv4, CM9, AOSP 2.3.7...
they are just a few that would be pretty cool to see.
you could also try a weird os like LeWa <-- based off cm7
Increased battery life is my main fault with this phone.
Somehow increase signal strength, I know, wishful thinking.
That's about it!
I'm trying to get my feet wet with developing but am having a hard time getting anything working in CM7, I think I almost have the camera working, along with either Bluetooth or WiFi.
But what I would love is an aosp kernal!!!

AOSP. Could care less about another ROM built off of sense.
i'll say, do what you are best at.. that's it.
it doesn't matter if it is aosp, miui.. anything will do
BUT if it is android 4.0.3 IT'S BETTER !!
What is the best rom for the htc rezound? I want to have the latest version of android and sense for the htc rezound with everything working. I think the latest is android 4.0.4 and sense 4.0
What ROM are you using? If you are on S4, then you are using a custom ROM. Our "official" ICS only has Sense 3.6
BTW, wrong place to put this...not being a jerk about it like some will, but this should be in Q & A
Post one thread, one time, in the correct section please
Please delete this post. Sorry for posting in wrong forum.
Best ROM?
Well, if you insist on ICS, your choices are OK.
But, until the approved ICS rom appears, you may
get the best battery mileage with the latest GBread 2.01.605.11.
I have tried them ALL, and come back to a daily driver
of GB that's rooted and cleaned out with Titanium Backup.
It runs smooth, no FC's, and does everything I need without
any issues. Only the programs I use are installed or
loaded on startup. Once you get it the way you like, Nandroids will
allow you to jump around, try new stuff, then go back to what you like.
Venasaur 3.2 or cleanrom dev 1.4. Period.!

The best ROM is which ever ROM runs the best on your phone.
From my experience, the best way is to read the OP of the ROMs you are interested in, narrow it down to say 3-4 ROMs and try them out.
There is a good amount to choose from, GingerBread, ICS sense 3.5 to Sense 4.0
it looks like miui has even come too.
I will not go into anything DEV related, as I don't use ROMs based on the Dev, I use it based on how well it runs on my phone.
Nils' Business ICS 4.1 is my choice for Sense 3.6 out of everything I've tried. Great sound quality for Bluetooth audio. Everything works, no FCs, smooth, great theming. Love it!
its alll a matter of opinion my friend try them all

I agree try them all until you find the 1 that suits your needs
NAND is your friend
Ineffabilis Deus has been by go to rom as of late.
it all defend on your preference!
This is totally subjective, but the first step is to figure out if you like Sense or not. That will help narrow it down by 50%
Beyond that, just try a bunch that have healthy threads and update frequency, and you can't go wrong.
Newt's XXX RLS1 is the best ROM I've run to date. Sense 4 is sick, and I haven't found one thing that doesn't work yet (besides the stupid data arrows, but who REALLY needs those anyway?) It's just too bad you can't get support in the thread for it here anymore, but he's easy to find if you know where to look.....
So I've been wondering about what photon users would think. Is there anyone out there beside me who would be game for a "Don't call it Blur" based ice Rom with that Atrix Leak? Just testing the waters here...
Sent from my KFHD using XDA Premium HD app
I think at this point it's just a wait and see game as the code is there for anyone with the skills to make use of it, and it can probably help towards making not only an ICS build but perhaps a JB one as well.
Just remains to be seen if anyone will take up the task I suppose. I grabbed the leak almost as soon as it was hosted the other day and I have it backed up in several locations, but I haven't a clue where to begin with such things so, I'll leave that to the more talented individuals.
While I keep thinking "Sure, I'd love to get ICS on the Photon, and JB too come to think of it..." I really don't have any specific need to have ICS or JB, and neither of them are going to get the battery life that GB currently offers on this device, not even close. I guess after decades of working with computers and electronics I'm just getting sick of being infected by "Upgraditis" where I have that addiction to always having the latest and greatest.
GB works just fine for me.
My vision is blurry
The original blur that was released with the Motorola Backflip sucked in my opinion but the version that came with the Photon I really enjoyed. I'm curious to see what it is like on ICS myself. The integration with social networks and the extra bells and whistles it provided I did enjoy but with all the ICS and JB option I didn't feel like running GB any longer.
I'm not a dev by any means but I like to mess around with stuff. I'm currently trying to use Jokers CM9 to port the ICS leak. I have a zip that will flash with no errors but it hangs on the boot screen. I'm updating my Linux install now so I can run logcat during boot to see what it is causing it to hang. I make no promises on anything but I love to learn new things. This is my first attempt at anything like this so it may just blow up in my face, time will tell.
I'm down for trying Ice Cream Sandblur (or Jelly Blur). I don't have that low an opinion of Blur itself, it's just that on our phones, the way it is now, the best of everything is in CM10 (or CM7 if you need camera). I have a Gingerblur-based Nandroid, and I have it set up kinda nice, but I honestly don't use most of the Blur stuff. It's nice to have as an option though, I suppose.
I'm also curious ,does anyone can make a ROM just based on leaked ICS from Atrix? If that ROM appear ,Photon is regeneration!I really hope someon can take up the task!

If there was both a fully working ICS/JB Blur and CM. it would make no sense to even bother with Blur. Blur would offer nothing over CM, or any other AOSP based ROM, except having Blur as you launcher and 4G for locked users.
Idk, i think that new roms are fun. I love playing with new operating systems, so i know I'd Want to play with blur.

Hey guys I've had my DNA since launch weekend. I've become interested now that I've seen there are methods for S-OFF and then now return to stock methods.
I am fully stock with the most recent OTA update. So I need help in figuring out which methods of S-OFF are easiest as I know I've seen different requirements for each one and it seems they keep changing so I can't keep up with them.
Also with the ROM's, are there any fully complete ones that work 99.9999% with the phones features. I have used CM 10 on my Incredible 2. Any thoughts as to which ROM's to start out with?
I know I could search the $hit out of this, but I read into things too much and then just get frustrated when trying to find a ROM or a method and never pick something.
**********Update**********
I moonshined my phone this weekend, so now it's time to look at each of the ROM's that you guys mentioned! Thanks again for the help in this!!
I really would appreciate any help on the matter and I thank you in advance!!

I personally think Revone method is the easiest way to get S-off .
If you want 99% bug free I would recommend NOS7
Moonshine -> TWRP -> Carbon -> Win

I'd probably suggest PAC or carbon. I'm on PAC right now, but next time I clean flash a rom, carbon is going on my phone.

I'd suggest not asking users as you will get a different answer from every single one of them. Research each ROM and make a decision based on what you want.
As for S-Off, both methods are insanely easy. Pick one and go with it.

I understand that different people will like different ROM's, but their suggestions do help with making a starting choice in figuring out which ones to give a shot first. I just tend to over research stuff and never making a choice as I can't decide which to pick. Sometimes it's easier to just start off with suggestions from others who have already done what I was trying to do.
Again thanks everyone for your inputs and suggestions! I'm going to research the methods for getting S-Off and pick one. I will most likely get this done this weekend.
If you are a fan of Sense 5 and okay with using android 4.1, then go for newt's NOS7 rom, it's essentially bug-free and super smooth.
If you're an AOSP kind of guy, I would highly suggest flyhalf's CM10.1 build paired with crpalmer's aosp kernel. Keep in mind that it is a WIP, so there is plenty of room for optimization, and some features (such as bluetooth audio) may not be working.. it is android 4.2.2, so you do have some features over 4.1, but it's whatever you prefer. There are more updates on CM based roms for the DNA because it is still generally new, and the developers are active on their respective roms.
I definitely would go with a Sense 5 Rom. I had nothing with problems with CyanogenMod on this phone. I take a lot of the talk of good things about it on this phone as circle jerking. I really had quite a few problems, even on the later versions that came out earlier this month.
Switched to NOS M7 and have had no problems what-so-ever.

I wasnt trying to be offensive by any means. I understand the work that goes in to these roms and I appreciate it immensely. BUT I wanted to give this guy my most honest opinion from my experience. I don't want him to end up Rom swapping like mad if he doesn't have to, I've had zero problems with NOS M7. On Cyanogen I had force quits, bluetooth cutting in and out, wireless tether dropping constantly, now I have none of that.

No, you don't or you wouldn't call it circle jerking. Given the OPs requirements a sense 5 ROM, NOS M7 in particular would seem to best fit his requirements, which also seems to fit yours, no reason to talk like that about our work OR the users that support and enjoy it enough to recommend another user give it a try, even though they really don't meet the OPs stated needs in a ROM. Everyone has their opinion, especially on XDA, there's no reason to be insulting because you disagree with their ROM choice.

I personally used the Moonshine method. It was very simple. I already use a Linux distribution so my PCs OS wasn't an issue. Just run the exploit and, for me at least, everything went very smoothly. I tried out CM10.1, Revolt, Carbon, Rootbox (one of the earlier more buggy builds), and Hatka Supreme. I'm currently running CarbonROM (the 6/11 build) with stock kernel and am loving it! I've considered trying the latest build of Rootbox, but not sure if I want to go through the setup process again. Its all a matter at personal opinion, just my $0.02 USD!

+1 for NOS M7 haven't had a single issue with it. Only issues I have had are with mods or themes for it. Can't speak for an AOSP ROM as I haven't tried one yet. Also FYI I would recommend using crpalmer's kernel.
I'm in the same boat OP. I tried Viper's rom and it was too much of a change for me. I wasn't ready to ditch the stock (or a stock-like) interface yet. Been researching roms, but it's tough like mentioned earlier, b/c it's very subjective.
I just want everything to work, debloat, hotspot capabilities and some customization options. I like the stock look and I haven't had the phone long enough to tire of it just yet.
I've had a rooted phone before and I do get bored with things after a while, so I know I'll run through roms over the next time period before I buy a new phone. I want to get my mileage out of each one.
I tried to download Hatka (sp?) earlier today, but I guess it's unavailable atm.
Downloading Nos7 now. It's going EXTREMELY slow though. I even switched to wifi and still at 5% after 4 minutes.
