Problems with 3G network - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi,
Im from Dominican Republic and I got a Photon, the phone use to works fine with my carrier, but since 2 weeks ago the 3G network is unavailable. My carrier is Claro Dominicana (GSM 850 MHz) and searching for the possible problem I think that one of the motorola update block that band since is the same one as ATT. I had rooted the phone and try with custom roms and also restore it to the stock rom but with no luck. Does anyone have face this issue? Is there a solution for this?
Thanks.

Well if they block it I would guess it was in a radio update. So I would try rolling back your firmware and then rolling back your radio to a previous version. Good luck.

No luck
Did all that and no luck..

[Q] Vibrant on GSM 900 coverage in Pakistan

Hi,
I am new to this forum, but hope to get a quick response from you guys, I have bought a T-Mobile Vibrant (Used) from Houston USA and brought it to Pakistan where I unlocked it. The problem I am facing is very poor to no GSM 900/1800 reception. I tried it reflashing to stock ROM T959.VJUFD but that did not made any difference in reception.
Can someone please guide me with some details if it can be done with a software modification.
I will really appreciate
Which Network are you using? Also, where do you live exactly?

Try Bionix-V. The KA7 modem is great, but if you have a very weak signal where you are at then there may not be anything you can do.
Sent from a Galaxy S far....far....away.
Probably it is related to your GSM company. Vibrant works well with Gsm1800 in turkey.
Did you ever tested it in US? How was the performance?
I live in Karachi, have perfect signals on my other HTC and Motorola
Using Mobilink which is on GSM 900.
I will try the new KA7 and will post the result

Hi I too have Motorola Atrix from At&t network unlocked currently using in o2-de. I have full 3g and 2g connectivity in Germany. And also I remember while travelling through Italy this summer had full 2g support there. So if the 3g services in Italy use the frequency band as in Germany u should be fine. But my guess is they are same and hence there should not be any problem.

thanks!
I have att version in Sweden and broke screen. Found out that no euro companies will fix us version. Had to send back to us to get fixed. This can take well over a month. Just beware!

Running an att atrix 4g in Slovenia, as of the 2.3.4 update all works fine (on 2.2.2 wifi stopped working in conjunction with mobile signal - long story, but Slovenia specific), so ye you shouldnt have any issues. Regarding fixing the phone, apparently Motorola UK does it for att atrixes aswell.
Another one running fine in Spain and UK.
Regarding roms, you must keep in mind that your phone is still the ATT model, so whenever you must apply device-specific patches (radios, etc), choose the ATT one.
I got this phone in September, and since then I've been in 6 different European countries. Worked perfectly everywhere In Italy I got a TIM sim card, had hdspa on all the time. You'll be fine, it's an excellent phone, the best purchase you can make
Have you already considered the European Atrix sold on Expansys? I bought it there and am very happy with it. You get a phone that is (hopefully) designed for Europe and coming with a "Retail" System and radio. Works very well in Italy.

Photon in Australia

I moved to Australia this week. I brought my MoPho with me. It was a hassle getting it to work but i figured it out and thought to tell you how it went. I put a Vodafone AU SIM card in my phone but 3G would not work. I knew for a fact i was in a coverage area for 850Mhz 3G so I was pretty annoyed it would not work. Turns out with the Photon you have to manually ass the APN for Vodafone and probably a few others. I was able to get all the settings I needed from here.
http://ausdroid.net/apns/
tl;dr Sometimes when abroad you need to manually add the APN for the carrier.
I need to do that for my carrier too (Slingshot NZ, 850/2100Mhz) but after that it works fine, 3G GSM data is borked on the current ICS build though.
Ya. Im going to wait awhile before i put on another custom ROM. Still trying to get used to everything in Australia. Cant risk being without a phone. Im going to keep an eye on cm9. Until then i only have the precious data connection on my phone which is caped at 4GBs :'(. I miss unlimited.

The telstra pre pay sim works better than vodafone .

Well. Thats a tricky question. Bellow i will list the different networks and what they support compared to the photon. Currently all three major carriers can provide 3G to the Photon. Telstra simply has a better network but it has nothing to do with how it interacts with the phone. For both Optus and Vodafone so far i have had to manually set the APNs. It was a ***** with the Optus one because of the separate APNs for internet and mms. Even though optus doesnt have umts850 and the photon doesnt have umts900 i am downloading about 4Mbs in East Killara (Suburb by Sydney) throught Optus' 2100 single band HSDPA+. I have not tested Telstra because they are so freaking expensive.
Photon supports:
800/1900 MHz (EV-DO Rev. A),
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz,
UMTS/WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz (HSPA+ at 14.4 Mbit/s)
OPTUS/Amaysim: (I only recommend for when time is being spent in Capital Cities that support 2100 single band)
GSM - 900/1800
UMTS - 900/2100 (2100 single band)
TELSTRA:
2G - 900/1800
3G - 850/2100 (850 is NextG)
LTE - 1800
Vodafone:
2G - 900/1800
3G - 850/900/2100

vodafone's 3g did not work for me at all, apns could not be set,
after a bit of hassle i got optus working and am happy so far, vodafone is sooo bad in aus anyway.
Yea i used my sprint touch pro 2 all last year down under.
Hoping the photon puts my tp2 on the shelf.
I agree with hodie though
Optus is good when your in Melbourne, sydney, perth, etc.but i thought telstra had the better overall service.

[Q] International (netherlands) - foreign SIM and no data connection

Hi,
I bought the DNA without a plan in America (not in a actual verizon store, but in a other verizon retailer).
In the Netherlands I put in a Dutch SIMcard from Vodafone (Dutch provider).
After installing the SIM and entering the APN settings of Vodafone the Data connection is not working.
I can call with my phone, but after trying the data connection it attemps to cennect a few times but then it says "connection lost".
I triple checked the APN settings and tried playing with some of the settings, but nothing worked.
I went to the Vodafone store and they said the settings were correct and could not help.
They recommended that i should root the phone and install a european/dutch android version.
Because in the netherlands we do not have 4G yet and this is not an option in european android versions.
They said this might cause the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas to solve the problem? (without rooting)
Or can anybody inform me if rooting and installing a different android version might solve the problem? (no rooting experience)
Any help is appriciated, but also other experiences with DNA in Europe (and data connection) are very welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Well considering you can't install a different android version, that won't work.
Only thing I can think of is that your carrier is using a band the DNA doesn't support. What band does your carrier use?

Thanks for your help.
according to http://androidadvices.com/htc-droid-dna-phone/the DNA supports: quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and quad-band UMTS/HSPA (850/900/1900/2100 MHz)
Vodafone bands are 900, 1800 and 2000 in the Netherlands
So it should work, right?

only if you are in a 900 or area (i guess you mean 2100 and not 2000)

Yes I meant 2100.
I did hear some in Canada did not have problems so it is possible out side America.
Maybe I am just out of luck, but I hope somebody has the solution for me.
Good luck with your DNA and the Data connection.

According to another forum it just depends on if you have a plan if you have to activate it or not.
If you have a phone without a plan you would not have to activate the phone via Verizon.
If you do have a plan you should activate it.

Yes, but it is also a quadband global phone, this phone can use GSM bands aswell.
at least that is my understanding. since it also works om at&t and canada for example.
Ok installed ukb 1.3.0 Rom and all is working good now! Calls and data I'm happy now
I also changed the networks to gsm/umts only to boost battery since I won't be using lte for now

I'm using Droid DNA in Japan and I have same problem. It also doesn't work in Japan by 3G network.
The carrier (NTT DOCOMO) uses UMTS/2100,1700,800. My country have no GSM and I can't try it yet.
Does DNA work as SIM free just in North American continent?

I tried friend's SIM card and found problems as below.
- carrier: NTT DOCOMO data only SIM (Japan, WCDMA/UMTS, 800/1700/2100)
-- SIM is not recognized ("your sim card does not allow a connection to this network")
- carrier: Softbank (Japan, WCDMA/UMTS, 900/2100)
-- SIM is recognized. Talk works. But no data connection (3G does not work).
I hope to know your APN settings.
Phone is HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
so that explains why the NTT DOCOMO doesn´t work (maybe not in 2100 coverage?)
you must enter the apn settings of your carrier, in this case softbank, and then select it. have you tried it yet?

I looked it up on this forum, but I suppose you need to root the DNA for this right?

Yes, UKB 1.3.0 requires root and unlocked bootloader. I already get root and tried it, but problem remains.
I suspect that this problem is not solved even if you get root. I may need to update radio image in Droid DNA.

HTC One ATT unlocked but no LTE signal here in Middle East

That's simple, because you got the one with the North American Radio Bands, not the European (which the ME supports)
I had to buy my Nexus 5 from the UK Play store because of this and my LTE works flawlessly in Bahrain.
