I found on the original DROID that a magnet triggered both car dock and regular dock mode in certain areas of three phone. I imagine that it's the same here. The US car dock is only $40 tho.
EDIT : Tested theory with my car dock for RAZR. It has something to do with the USB plug. RAZR can be in dock and if USB isn't plugged in then no dock mode.

Hey guys,
I have a two display setup at work, my Lenovo T510 laptop on a Lenovo Docking Station. One monitor is VGA the other is DVI.....both going into my docking station.
My question is, can I go from my Photon Dock HDMI to DisplayPort in the back of my Lenovo docking station and display on my monitors?

Unless the port on the dock is an input which is highly unlikely then no.

Does anyone know what sets off car dock mode on the Photon? is it magnets or something to do with the usb cable?

I believe there are some magnets in the car dock that enable it.
I have both the car dock and the hdmi dock I believe its something to do with the cable I will look further into it and get back with you but im almost positive its got nothing to do with magnets,

I just put it in car dock and all good, screen pops up? I would guess the ISBN connection.

You don't, it's automatic. If the dock isn't wired correctly then it will only charge.

I can't remember what phone/dock (might even be this phone) but I do remember reading that soldering a resistor between certain pins was enough to fool the phone into thinking it was an official dock.. Maybe you can search for that?

Ok i am thinking about buying an amaze 4g but i do have a deal breaker question.
I noticed the amaze has a special usb charger, will i damage the port by using a regular microusb, or will it all be good?

No. It'll fit just fine. Just have to make sure it sits in there securely. But the original plug and charger is only a few dollars on Amazon.

The speed of charging depends on the wall plug not the cable. I'm not too sure why HTC changed the plug. Someone else can chime in for that.
HTC changed the cable so that it doubles as an HDMI output with the proper adapter. The official cable does charge a bit faster than a standard microusb, but no other functionality should be lost if you don't buy one of those cables. There are only a handful of HTC devices that use it now, and If I'm correct all of them border on obsolete now.

Any suggestions for a desk dock? I'd really like usb 3 support since charging from usb it's so slow to begin with. I checked out Amazon, but everything looked really crappy. Sync would be nice, but I'm mainly using it for charging. I'm not using any cases or covers. Thanks all!

The OEM desk dock works great for me. It doesn't sync but has USB 3.0 connections and chatted very fast. It has a stereo speaker jack too.

I have one by victsing.com (I can't post links yet :/)
It's supposed to be able to connect via 3.0, but mine doesn't :/ that's not exactly the worst thing in the world for me. The dock itself is small and connects via a USB 3.0 cable (I just use my original samsung one) the dock also has a slot for an extra battery so you can charge a second battery while you're using your phone on it. It's a solid dock for $13ish.
