but will they install cm7 for me?
I'm curious if anyone decided to take their nooks in to get them repartitioned. Also curious how it worked out for anyone who did.
I had mine done yesterday... it was a complete img flash... so anything you might have on the internal memory will be gone, anything sideloaded... it took about 20 minutes as it has to be deregistered and brought back to original new status.. then then flash is done.. then it has to go through all that again...
I asked how much I was getting back.. 8GB ... so they split the 16GB between them and you...
Had to reinstall everything I had sideloaded and figure out where I was in a book .. OH lost all my achievements in the different Angry Birds... LOL
Got home and put my CM7 mSD disk in... booted up fine

Great to hear you were pleased with the results. I assume you were running B&N ROM, with CM7 via SDCard.
I am internally debating handing my baby over to them, using the xda method, or leaving things be.
Swyped from NT CM7.1.Alpha Final using XDA Premium
That is great to hear cuz I am so mixed up with the repartitioning on my own. Did you go in with 1.40 or 1.41 and did you walk out with 1.42? Do they do it right away or do you have to come back later and pick it up? I guess I want to make sure I get the same tablet back.

Yes.. running the CM7 using the mSD version...
When I got the Nook Tablet (Christmas gift).. they paid for 2 year warranty.. so in a few years.. I will probably just move it to internal.. just want to keep the warranty that was bought and not have them have wasted the $...
I rarely boot into BN... loving CM7

I had 1.4.2 on the Nook.. it came back with the same... I walked in went to the Nook desk told her what I wanted.. then sat right next to the her while she did the steps on a sheet of paper and the mSD with the img on it.. like I said.. I think it took about 20 minutes.. maybe less.. overall was pleased with it.. would have liked more back. lol but oh well 8 is better than 1
I recommend just doing the xda way. As another user mentioned already, they do a factory reset on your device, so it takes out all your content. If you do it yourself, you can atleast restore your data. What seems to happen is that, they do a factory reset, turn off the device, put their sd card in, and then boot via the cable connected to a wall adapter not by powering on the device normally.
Re-partitioned mine on Monday morning

I was not asked for a receipt or anything. I was told to come back in 20 minutes. When I returned 20 minutes later, I was asked if I had a 8 GB Nook Tablet or a 16 GB tablet. I told them it was a 16 GB tablet. I was again told to come back 20 minutes later.
I watched the desk where my Nook was undergoing surgery and saw a female employee take over from the guy that had been working on it. About 15 minutes later she asked me to log into my B and N account. She continued for a minute or so then told me it was done. She also took me to the "Settings" page and showed me the new settings. I had 5.91 GB for B&N content and 7.99 of 8 GB available for "other storage available".
All in all a painless procedure. My NT was taken in completely stock and unrooted.

To bad there was no way we could get a hold of that mSD so the devs could work with the image so we could do it ourselves that way.
Update
My wife works at B&N and is doing the memory update to hers today. She works mainly with the Nook sales and will be trained how to do the upgrade. I'll post the results later... hmm... wonder if the zip drive is with her.
I've been debating trying to do the repartition the xda way myself or take it into B&N. Not sure my skills are up to the xda way but want to make sure I can re-root it I get it back.
Did you get your NT back with version 1.4.2 and were you able to root it easily?
Thanks,
Nikkie

I went to B&N to do it last tuesday. process was smooth, but it did update it to 1.4.2. I also unrooted my device prior to taking it there (after backing up with CWM of course). When I took it in, I was at 1.4.0 unrooted with the stock recovery flashed, not cmw
After leaving there. I popped my cm7 sd card in, ran the app to flash CWM to internal then flashed my CWM backup. and poof, I am back to CM7 running on my sd card, and rooted 1.4.0 internal. Quite simple really.
Now I just hope someone works out a SD card version of the B&N firmware so I can put that on the sd card, and put the CM7 internal....
The advantage of the XDA way is that you decide the size of your partitions and save the extra time recovering everything, even CWM.

here is the boot image from the B & N mSD card for the partitioning of the 16gb Tablet.
Had mine done this morning. It took less than 10 minutes.
I had mine repartitioned this past weekend. I originally was running 1.4.0 with root by Indirect and decided I wanted to stay stock and play with CM7 on SD. I backed up a few files, then did a factory reset to unroot and took it in. It took them about 15 minutes. So now I'm completely stock internally (with a bigger partition), and I'm playing with CM7 on SD.
I took my nook into the local B&N today and had the repartition done. Used CWM stock recovery and nook unroot to return to factory settings before I took it in. Went in with 1.4.2. and the whole process went very quickly and smoothly. No one asked for receipts or checked for evidence of past rooting or even asked many questions at all. All I had to do was re-register when it was all over. When I got home, I rooted again using Albert Wertz's newest rom (4.6) and again, everything worked perfectly. I'm now rooted on 1.4.2 with the new partition sizes. Couldn't have gone better.

Heyy All, (sorry if this is in the wrong section!!!!)
I have a couple of questions.. I wanted to partition my SD card so that apps2sd would work. Here are the steps i took:
Did a nandroid backup
I copied all information from SD card to my computer
rebooted phone into recovery
chose partition SD card - Then upgraded ext2 to ext3
copied and pasted all files back onto the SD card
nandroid restored
in recovery I am able to access all files on the SD card but when i reboot my phone an icon comes up in the notification bar that looks like a SD card with an exclamation point with the error "Blank SD card or unsupported file system"
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? or why my files are no longer on the SD card when I reboot my phone?
Thank you all very much!
You must be running a Froyo-based ROM, which with the "normal" way of partitioning through any kind of recovery, Froyo doesn't recognize the FAT32 partition. You're going to have to search the Eris Dev forum for a thread by Conap called something like "Using old Apps2SD with Froyo".
FYI, no offense if you already know this, but did you know that Froyo's built-in Apps2SD doesn't require partitioning at all, although it has different limitations than the "old" style Apps2SD.
here's a link to the thread that roirraW "edor" ehT is referencing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811548
good luck and let us know if you need any other help!
Awesome thank you very much guys!!.. I actually figured it out thought. I just reformatted the card and got rid of the extension. Put all of my files back on and its as good as new!.. Thanks again
I have a problem with my SD card, not sure if partitioning will do anything for it, perhaps mine is corupted some how.
Running KF37, on Sunday my Eris froze up, any apps I had on my SD where unable to open or recognized. My phone was very slow and would not respond very well. I took my SD card out and plugged it into my computer and it would not open (I can't remember the error message) said something like "no contents" . After about an hour I was able to open my SD card and everything was there, so I backed it up. I placed it back in my phone and I still could not get my apps to work, those that are Apps2SD.
Due to the phone freezing up and the battery being extremely hot I had it replaced.
The new Eris, I flashed the latest Nonsensikal, it restored all my apps, but would not allow me to move them to SD. When I went under "manage apps" to list all my apps it showed "computing" instead of their file size. It would fail to move to SD every time. Then I would get a FC of the launcher and only have a black screen with no acess, I could at least see my notification bar and pull that down but that was all I could do on the phone...a reflash of Nonsensikal had no effect to fix this.
So, last night I install KF38, no FC's but I still can't move apps to SD, they fail each time.
I delete everything off my card, reformate it but it doesn't help.
I partitioned it (for the first time...not sure if I didn't it right but I beleive I followed the instructions) and I still can not get Apps2SD.
Any thoughts?

First, most of the time with Froyo ROMs you don't want to partition the SD card. If you do there's a special way to get it to work with Froyo, but the only reason you would want to partition it is for advanced reasons and nothing having to do with getting Froyo-native Apps2SD working.
Have you gone into Menu/Settings/CyanogenMod settings/Application settings and checked "Allow application moving"?

Yes, this is not the issue, though I wish it were. I have been running the Froyo rom's for a very long time.
As I tried to explain, life was going great for me and my Eris until Sunday when the little guy froze up and became very laggy. At that point my apps that were on my SD card no longer worked, and when I removed my SD card and plugged it into my computer it would not open for about an hour or so, I got an error message, something like "no content" or something like that.
I did not do anything to my SD card (other than copied the contents to my computer) when I plugged it into my new Eris. I still could not move apps to the SD.
Which at that point I thought that perhaps something happened to it and that I might need to partition it, which I did through recovery, but still no luck.
I am trying to do it via the thread link from this thread via gscripts and connecting it to my pc, but I can't seem to figure it out correctly.
I am not sure why apps wont work or move to the SD. I don't think it is corrupt or damaged because I can access everything on the card, save on it, play music from it, pictures, ect.
I don't want to use a different SD, I bought this 16GB Class 6 only for my phone and I use about 11GB so far.
Eagerly Waiting....
Thanks again.

Okay, since you said you weren't sure if you partitioned it right, did you choose "0" for the Ext2 and also for the Swap size? That's how you should normally do for use with a Froyo ROM.
I wish I had a Class 6 16GB to play with.
The only GScripts I can think of related to partitions are for if you partition your SD card some other way other than recovery, which is what would be necessary in order to arrange and access the partitions in a way that Froyo can deal with.
After repartitioning your SD card, can you use a Micro SD to USB adapter (not through the phone) to access the contents okay?
If you can but still can't on the phone, then your phone probably is damaged and needs replaced.
I am pretty sure it is the phone, and not my SD card. I tried 3 other SD's and none of them allowed me Apps2SD.
I did get it partitioned finally But that did not help my problem
I am going to try and reflash a ROM and see if that helps, I doubt it at this point.
I am able to flash in recovery but for some reason I can not install apps via Astro that are stored on the SD. I can access content on card but no app access...bizarre
I just unrooted and flashed flashback 2.1 (no sense to continue to root when this phone is going back in a couple days).
As for a replacement, it will be here Monday. Believe it or not, this new replacement, which was a brand new Eris in the box, I activated Wednesday night overheats as well Yesterday I picked it up off my desk and the back was very hot (just like it's predecessor on Sunday) and the awake time was more than 100%. So Asurion is sending yet again another Eris, this will be my 6 Eris. So I will see how this replacement goes.
As for the Eris, I called Verizon about Asurion who did offer me 2 alternatives to the Eris, the LG Vortex and the Moto Devour (not comparable IMO), the tech rep at Verizon I spoke with agree with me that both alternatives are not comparable and that I should have been given the option for the Incredible since it is the next version after the Eris in my same manufacture line. So I called Asurion back who then asked me to call Monday when my Eris arrives so they can verify with a higher supervisor to ship me out the Incredible. If I do end up with the Incredible I hope there are some good ROMS for it.

I'm sorry to hear about your rotten luck and that we weren't able to solve it. We'll be sorry to lose another Eris user but I hope they get you the Incredible. I haven't looked but I'm sure the Incredible has some comparable ROMs available for it. It certainly doesn't hurt that it's more powerful.
Good luck!
Trying to fix this phone its stuck at the htc screen
so far I have had no luck downoading the roms they all fail while downloading
please help !
Did this happen gradually or were you trying to flash another ROM? I had this problem as well, and i did absolutely nothing to the phone and one day it deleted all my music and pictures. Then the next day i tried to turn it back on and it was stuck at the HTC screen as you describe. I had to take apart mine and repleace the SD card. For some reason the SD would not work in anything not even my computer. As soon as i replaced the SD card the phone installed what it needed to and it was running as good as new.
Hopefully that helps out and you get you're phone back up and running! Its not that hard to get to the SD card either its about 6 screws and just pull the plastic off and vuola under the silver foil is your card. This will void your warrenty though so if you still have warrenty i suggest taking it back and seeing if they will fix it for free. Mine was void so i had nothing to lose.
Thanks,
Coockoo

Awesome I'm glad you were able to get her phone up and running again!
Getting this message for some reason, and can't find a resolution. Copying my important stuff off now, then will probably reformat with the phone.
It started when I put the card in the replacement 3VO I ordered, because my first one was acting funny. About half a day later it game me the SD message, (sent it right back). Ever since I put it back in my first one it's been giving me that message.
Anyone have any ideas? Is my SD actually just going bad? Is it a corrupt file? Something entirely different?
Thanks to anyone who can help me get this figured out. Been searching Google since, but haven't found anything really relevant to the Evo 3D.

Hard to say, but you're doing the right thing coping everything off and then reformatting. My suggestion would be to also reformat it in the phone too. If this still happens, try another sdcard in the phone so you know for sure if it's the phone or the card.
Ok. Just went through with it. Seems like it's good so far. Didn't format it on the PC, just the phone, then reset the phone, then copied only my original stuff back on. So far so good. I'll add another reply in a couple days stating whether or not it holds up.

i've had the same issue with an aftermarket class 6 8GB sdcard I used in my EVO for a year. my experience has been once you start getting errors with an sdcard, they are on their last leg.
i would look into getting a replace or have a spare, just to be prepared, as its rough modifying your phone w/o an sdcard! too bad there isnt a tool which could give us more detail on the life/reliability of the sdcard!
hope it all works out!
i had the same problem....i do not think it is the sdcard
i believe the software is forgetting parts of the sdcard and sending the error.
it happened to me on my 16gb class 10
also happened on my wife's evo 3d with the stock card.
FIX: only fix i found is to get all info off with your pc then format the card and load everything back on through the phone or pc.
if anyone knows more i would like to know.
So far so good here. Took everything off my card, formatted it in the phone, put my stuff back on, and everything seems ok. Seems like if you just take your card out and toss it in another phone that'll happen. Didn't have that issue between my Hero and this one, so I'm not sure what the issue was.

Okay, this isn't "exactly" a noob question---I've been puttering around these boards and goofing off with my NT since December. And it's not that I "can't" find the answers on my own---my concern is that I'll find what I "think" are answers only to find out I was wrong. So, since flashing to cm7 can SERIOUSLY screw up my NT, I'm gonna go the prudent route and dot all my T's before I take the plunge.
Potentially pertinent info---my NT is currently internally rooted a la Indirect, with a 16gb card in the slot, and build modded to spoof a Nexus S. I have apps/games installed, with ebooks (read through B&N reader) and a few movies on internal memory (moved there via Root Explorer).
1) I understand that prerequisite to loading cm7, I need CWM installed. Anybody got a link to those instructions?
2) When I go to backup my stuff (via Titanium) will it back up ALL my stuff---apps, books, movies, etc---or just the apps?
The rest I can pretty much figure out myself via the pertinent threads. I ain't chicken$#!7 to mod my NT, but this thing is my LIFELINE at work (you have no idea the sheer VALUE of entertainment until you get a job as a security guard!) so I'm very cautious about anything that might have me sitting post, bored to tears because I didn't pay close enough attention or was too proud to ask a noob question
Sent from my rooted Nook Tablet using Tapatalk 8)
To install CWM (you don't necessarily HAVE to install it internally, but it is convenient), instructions are here
I believe you can set TiBU to back up anything you want. Dig around in it, set a new event and select what you want.
Books purchased through B&N will still be available to read through the B&N market app.
Don't forget to cross your i's
As a side note, Celtic is working on putting together an SDCARD version of CM7. I'm not sure exactly what the hold up is, but if you want to wait a minute, you could go that route as well and 'test the waters'

Right, and I've considered that, but when I did cm7 sd card on my wife's NC, it ran kinda sluggish, and I wanted to avoid that with my NT.
Further, when they release cm9 or cm7-Beta, I'd like to know more of what I'm doing so I can be a little less cautious
Sent from my rooted Nook Tablet using Tapatalk 8)
Once you flash cm7 I recommend installing wifi analyzer. If you end up with wifi issues it will allow you to reconnect without having to reboot. Also volume + will unleash those speakers so you can play videos and actually hear then at a reasonable volume.
As to the sdcard cm7 running sluggish, The only one I tried was a test build, and I never felt a difference at all. And I only use a class 4 sdcard (16gb). I think the NC just runs sluggish period.
Thanks a lot, guys
One more question---is ADB included in the CWM link you posted to me? If not, is it prerequisite to installing CWM?
EDIT: In the link you provided, I found another link to a CWM APK, which seems to pretty much take the guess work out of the whole deal. Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend (gotta give myself enough time to fix this thing if I jack it up LOL)

To be honest, I don't remember if it is linked there or not. You can find the ADB.exe and the adb_usb.ini needed in the nook&zergy root from Indirect. (should still be stickied in the dev section). It's been a minute, I don't remember how I actually put CWM on my NT. I have it internally installed, as well as running a copy on a CyanoBoot sdcard atm.
Ya know, I'm rooted with Indirect, so I think I may already HAVE ADB.
Cool. One less thing...

ok i put adams image file on the card and put the card in and ran it for about 6 hours. the screen still said something about factory settings. i cut it off at this point because i got a little impatient and tried to restart it and now i'm locked in the "n" screen boot loop. i reflashed the card and am trying it again now but its been running for about an hour already and is still in the "writing zeros to mlo" phase. why is this process taking so long? i'll post back with more results tonight...
edit: wow its actually chugging along right after i wrote that. in the past 5 minutes, it got all the way up to step 9, writing all zeros to system. might write back sooner than tonight. *fingers crossed*
Edit 2: well I let it run for a couple hours and it never moved from writing zeros to system. Then the battery ran out. Restarted the whole process and its been at that same step for hours again. I'm keeping it plugged in this time though. Any ideas?
no dice. i let run for hours and it seems to just hang. now when i start the nt i only get the "n" screen and it keeps restarting.

You could try running the repart.img once again even if you already did it before you did the other stuff. Probabaly won't work, but it's worth a try! The reason I say this is when I messed up mine that's how it looked for me and the repart.img did the trick. Obviously mine wasn't as badly messed up, but still... After all, what do have to lose?

What do people have against plugging in the Charger to fix their brick issues? You are only exacerbating the problem when you run out of power and the nook tablet won't come back on, if at all, until at 15% power level? Adam's method can take overnight to complete. Don't be impatient. Haste makes waste.
When this happened to me using Adams method, it was a messed up partition table.Celtic has a simple fix for that.I would then try the repart image solution. If you use Adams method without backing up the ROM, you won,t ever be able to register with BN again.

thanks but already tried that. now it seems like nothing is recognized on the card except for adams files or the cwm 5028 files. anything else i put on there just makes it go through the "n" screen bootloop.

yea the thing is in his post, adam says it should take about 15 mintues to complete. i was at full charge, so didn't see the need to plug it in. after that first time, i've left it plugged in every time i've tried to use it and let it sit for 6-8 hours at a time and its still not finished.

i have the parted text file, but no way to push it to the device since adb doesn't recognize there is anything hooked up to my computer. celtic does say you can put it on an sd card, but once in cwm, how do you process a text file from the sd card?
