New to this site! - Motorola Droid X2

Hey whats up im new to this site and new to the x2 in general. I was with the htc side of everything but my phone died recently (nothing i did) and the only phone i could get relatively cheap was the droid x2. I do some programming in my spare time but havent really seen any of the motorola stuff yet. Can you guys summarize the situation with motorola so i dont have to read a **** tons of threads to figure it out!!!!

Welcome to the x2! Here is a good thread with links to mostly everything for this phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313103 thanks to booked!
Out boot strap recovery is the tenfar version and you have to be plugged into wall charger to get into recovery due to it highjacking the charge mode. And questions feel free to ask. As far as roms go CM7 is great as well as eclipse. Most updated eclipse info on eclipserom.com.

Thanks!!!! Is there anything that I can do Im on vacation from work for the next 7 days so i was thinking I should do more with my game and other things. I am in the middle of making my own game for the market. Its kinda like a first person rpg game kinda like borderlands meets call of duty. Been working on it for almost a year now I actually have a working version of it in like a beta stage for the incredible 2. Kinda buggy though. When i get it done ill post it up here for free. Anything i can help out with?

The Samsung Vibrant. Worthy Buy?

Hello Guys. I was hoping on buying this phone tomorrow. I love the look, the screen, processor etc etc but i see a little lack of amount of Devs like i thought i would see. Coming from being a G1 user for about 2 years now and being in the dream forum you guys probably know where im going with this (constant roms, constant upgrades, hacks for absolutely no reason making having the same ROM for too long annoying) was wondering was this phone a worthy buy? or are things just at a slow pace for now? would hate to buy this phone just for it to get over shadowed by the G2 being available soon and then having absolutely NO dev support anymore now seeing as Cyanogen himself is getting the G2 and there hasn't been a cm6 let alone anything from him released for this device.

While i'm completely grateful for your reply, i must say i've already read that thread and it actually generated my question of if its a worthy buy strictly upon dev work reasons. but thanks very much.

So you thought it would of been a better idea to post a NEW thread about it than replying to the thread that is pretty much relating to the same thing you're looking for as the OP in the other thread?
The vibrant beats the G2 in every other way in terms of hardware. The only reason why its going slow at the moment is because you aren't aware of what has been going on. CM6 was off to a slow start because WesGarner was working on the myTouch Slide before working on the vibrant but now his priority is to get CM6 up and running. CyanogenMod is already promised for the Galaxy S in 6.1, another reason why it is off to a slow start is because Samsung and HTC do their systems differently so it takes time to learn the environment and all that (I'm not a developer so.. I'm 100% correct about this).
It is still a top-notch phone based on benchmarks, yeah there are other factors based to it but the Hummingbird processor is the fastest processor on the market for Android phones. On top of that with Super AMOLED, it pretty much makes it so that when you look at your G1 it looks tiny. 4" is definitely the perfect size.
I'm sure once CM6 is up and running on Vibrant, things will start to roll up. I believe benbuchacher (known for his famous works: SuperD, SuperE, and incoming SuperF) has a Vibrant, Eugene_373 and justanothercrowd are some of the great developers that have been hard at work for giving us things to play with until CM6 is ready. There are many other developers out there that I haven't listed (sorry^)
The Galaxy S is also a international phone (as well as the four major U.S. carriers, people who want the keyboard on the Galaxy S have a option for the Epic 4G), a lot of the files are very similar and tweaks/hacks would work fine. So.. yeah in my opinion its a worthy buy, you have a 14-day (or 30) to return if it doesn't satisfy you.

That other thread was comparing a g2 to a vibrant. asking which was a better buy. I know every Dev you posted along with the basics of the vibrant etc Etc. Not a noob here in the slightest way Was just wondering from a person who has the phone thats all. The bold was exactly what i was wondering and was looking for so thank you for answering that question. Was planning on trying to port some the millions of ROMS from the dream over to this Phone but now i know why i don't see most of them already here. Gonna Do some research Now. Thanks alot fellow. And Yes I did think it was going to be a Better idea since you answered It quickly, efficiently, and there was no reason to read comments on things i wasn't really concerned about to find my answer. See how it worked out? Thanks again.
It's starting to leap ahead slowly. They found out how to flash kernels thru recovery just a couple of days ago so there isn't much more need for using a program called Odin to flash kernels. Odin can be pretty unreliable sometimes with the random crashing, I have yet to experience this but some people have. Definitely makes the job easier.
I was a huge fan of the "Super" ROMs, I definitely know what you mean by ROMs.. there would be a new one every other day and it would be fun to flash them and try it out then nandroid back. I'm certainly hoping for the same thing here, I'll admit that it is a little bit difficult when all the phones are seperated with their own forum but there is a proposal going around about merging all of them together (I9000,Fascinate,Epic 4G,Vibrant,Captivate)
Sadly i think the Vibrant is a great phone but wont have quite the dev as the G2 will. The G2 will probably be picked up by the likes of Cyanogen himself so it will depend on if a dev like him wants to keep it going or not. Had Cyanogen picked up the Vibrant and ran with it i think it might have had more possibilities. However i picked up the phone i had the G1 for 1.5 years (was a T-mobile Employee and got it 2 weeks before launch) and then switched to unlocked iphone for .5 years now im on the vibrant and im loving it. The android community has grown since i have been gone however i think since its samsung and not HTC that is what the problem is.

The main reason why Cyanogen picked up the G2 is because he doesn't condone manufacturers to put their custom interfaces over it. Cyanogen prefers stock Android. The OP said himself that he is a porter so he is a developer, I don't think it'd be a wise idea for everybody to just follow Cyanogen because there are definitely the people using the Galaxy S phones who would enjoy the same amount of modding.
There is larger room to make a name for yourself simply because there are less developers but there is definitely a large community for the phone that wants modding support.

Great phone, great experience and everything, does get kinda boring after sometime because i feel the phone is great the way it is, so until froyo theres nothing to really get excited about.
anyway great phone, and if i had to do it over again, i will still get this phone.a
I love it. Ive used just about every flavor of manufacturer-skinned android, along with vanilla (2.1 on G1). I can say after using other skins, TouchWiz 3.0 is pretty great. Vanilla android always wins, but this skin didn't feel as useless as some others.
I am coming from a mytouch slide, and a G1 before that, so the thought of a phone with no keyboard worried me. However the screen is the perfect size, and I'm pretty fast with swype. Not to mention, I had this phone rooted within 10 minutes of getting it home, whereas I never got the Slide rooted.
CM6 is coming to the Vibrant. Development is going to pick up. The Galaxy S series is on all four major carriers here in the US. I know we're going to see some interesting things happen.
I've had a lot of fun with this phone in the short time I've owned it, so I can definitely recommend it. And about the G2, it doesn't exactly seem light-years ahead, and if you wait for it...like magic the next superphone will be leaked and your attention will be on that.
So I would say get the Vibrant, you'll have a lot of fun with it.
...oh and I typed this out on it.
The only reason I might not get this phone is because of A. Its Sammie so who knows how long the official 2.2 comes B. Its not HTC so Devs will have to get accustomed to the phone C. It has Touchwiz. I could deal with Sense for a bit in waiting of CM6 or just stock 2.2 Android but playing with the phone in the Tmo store just turned me off. Looks like I will have to get a N1 or maybe wait for the G2
To me the entire CM6 is so over hyped its insane. The devs working on things are doing great. The phone is awesome as it is and anything beyond what it is now is pure gravy.
If/when CM6 hits I'm sure it will be awesome, but if you are holding out on the idea of that then well your going to miss out on a great phone.
The "devs" in the Dream section mostly produce hacked up beta garbage that never reaches a final release. Thanks but no thanks, I don't like flashing my phone 23452434 times to find something that works properly in ALL aspects. Then when you try to tell the devs what's broken they pitch a ***** fit and start complaining because they released it with known bugs. SICK of it.
There are a few that are worth the time in the G1/myTouch section but most of it is garbage and I had both devices.
Difficulty
The phone is worthy in every aspect of the word. This is an HTC forum. Luckily for us we have a very popular phone. I doubt we will go the way of other non HTC (AND SOME HTC) phones.
I am enjoying this phone, bloat and all, especially after the lag fix. I do enjoy an elegant vanilla though. But in its current condition would enjoy this Vibrant for at least a year.

Okay first off. Touchwiz is pretty good now. Touchwiz implemented pretty cool features and it isn't as bad. Dont criticize it if you haven't ever tried it. Samsung has already said froyo will be released sometime in September. Stop degrading a phone that you've never used.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Since the vibrant is fairly new and with the Froyo rumored to be out in Sept., I just don't see why any dev will want to spend all their time making a rom for a phone that might be getting the 2.2 upgrade in a month. I'm sure once the Froyo update is out, the devs will start their custom roms... For those that doesn't like the stock home launcher setup, just goto the market and get Launcher pro or ADWLauncher. Both will replace the iphone look alike. As far as lag fix and GPS fix, i didn't use any and my phone seems to be working like it should without any lag or gps problems.
I am not too into the whole ROM thing, if anyone could PM me the info in what it is for and why it is always great, it would be greatly appreciated. Anyways, back on topic, I like the Vibrant the screen is responsive and the huge screen makes typing a breeze(on both landscape and portrait mode). The processor is the best you can get right now on the Android OS and the screen is just amazing. The bad... Touch Wizard 3.0 is really good but coming from other Android devices I miss the App drawer so much. It does take getting used to, and if it is really that bad for you, then go get an open home theme. Or maybe stock Froyo installed(is that a ROM?) That would be nice, because the Vibrant would be perfect if it just had a less skinned theme. Great phone overall.

Saying Thanks

Just want to say thanks to all the devs for making me love my Eris again was about to throw it out a window till I found XDA. I've gone through a couple of roms so far and love tazzginger the best so far. Will be donating later this week thanks for everything. Also would of posted in tazzs thread but this is my first post
Sent from my Ginger Tazz using XDA App
I second this post. Since I bought my Eris last May, I've really grown to love Android and the features that are tied in with so many of Google's services. That being said, I was starting to get a little tired of looking at the same-old, same-old HTC Sense and frustrated that Verizon discontinued the phone 2 months after I bought it and HTC stopped updating us after a wildly-delayed 2.1.
As the Verizon iPhone launch grew closer, even though I had no desire to leave Android, I was starting to get a little iLust in me. That's when I knew it was time to renew my commitment to the loveable little Droid, but to do so, I would have to turn to the mod community for help.
So about a month ago, I nervously flashed my first ROM, Nonseniskal v16.1. After a few weeks, I found and flashed GSB. It continually amazes me how this community works endlessly to keep bringing the newest Android OSes and new features to a device that everyone else has long counted out of the game.
The people of XDA and the rest of the Android mod community is what Android is really all about. Thank you all.
Welcome to rooting and the forum, both of you!
Thanks to all devs. i had eris for more then a year never rooted till like last week im running GSB v1.9 and wow its a whole new phone this will hold me over till november upgrade thanks again xda and devs
Hiyas!
Gonna jump aboard this thread. I am a carbon copy of the comments above.
I have had my ERIS from nearly the day it hit the main stream Verizon market. As my wife and children began to catch and pass me with all the new gear I still loved my phone. It's the Right Stuff! Slim, not to big or little, trackball for easy use and amazingly it's an excellent phone. I've had a few. AT 62 I had the first ones, the big "Brick"s".
Not like a lot of "old folks" I love this stuff. I'm a gamer and build my own rigs. As my ERIS was being left for dead I started to read here and other forums on rooting. A month ago it started. Once rooted, I began changing ROMs like my socks eventually settling on the KAOSFroyo but with GO Launcher EX which I believe to be the best of the best.
Last night was Gingerbread (Go Launcher EX) I love it! This is truly the "Little Phone That Could".
Thanks Devs, the support folks, and all the informational posters here. I am not in any hurry to replace the ERIS....it fits me
Regards and Thanks,
Dennis
I am also saying thanks! You guys are awesome and inspiring!!!
I would also like to chime and say thanks to zach.xtr! xtrSense has been on my Eris since the day I rooted, and I haven't even had the urge to try another ROM. I'll be flashing 5.0 tonight - really excited that the 50% without signal bug is fixed! I can now turn my phone on/off without doing the airplane mode trick!

Atrix, should I buy or not

hi guys,
I know this has been asked already, but all I see are very old threads and a lot has changed since.
Since the Galaxy SII and sensation are available now, so my question is should I buy an Atrix or should i look for other options. I am asking this question here as most of the people are using Atrix and can better tell how the phone is. If given a second chance will you buy Atrix again ?
It really depends on the money you want to spend. I got the Atrix for $99 on contract, so it was attractive to me. The higher res display was also a plus for me. When the GB update comes it'll be nice to have the 1080p recording. Also the lapdock function works fantastically for me. I travel a lot and it's nice to be able to use my phone as a laptop and charge it at the same time.
But the Galaxy S2 has a slightly faster CPU, same RAM and the display is leagues ahead in color reproduction. Seriously, looking at them is sort of unnerving because of the ridiculously bright colors.
Otherwise I'm sure they're fairly comparable.
Decide for yourself, then you can't come back here and complain to us when you're not happy.
well i have had most of the latest android phones out there at the moment and currently have the Atrix.
Things i like about it are...
1. The size, i find that the 4" screen and overall size of the phone are perfect for me, fits great in the hand and i can select most things with one hand.
2. Screen quality is great..more 'natural' than the galaxy s2, just a shame they didnt coat the screen in the same way to resist fingerprints
3. Call quality is excellent, audio quality through headphones i find to be really good (i use Klipsch x10) and it sounds great.
4. External speaker is one of the best ive known on a phone, better than the iphone 4 and galaxy s2...yes ive owned both.
5. notification led....many of the current android phones seem to leave this out but im glad the Atrix has one as its really useful.
Things i dont like....
1. 2.2 Froyo....really, along with moto-blur nearly ruin a great phone. The phone really dosent perform like a 2 core phone. However, this can be improved by using an alternative launcher like ADW ex....thats what i am using and makes scrolling between screens much smoother and less laggy.
2. The wait for gingerbread.....Motorola could be onto a big fail like sony ericcson did when they brought out the xperia x10 with android 1.6...it had everything going for it then they slaughterd it with 1.6! crazy!
Other than the fact that it is let down by having froyo i like everything else about the phone..infact i probably find it worse than others might because i have owned the galaxy s2 quite recently (sold because it was too big for me to hold in one hand) and that phone is fantastic. Very smooth and very quick...this really is where the Atrix should be
Just my view of course...
will i stick with the Atrix?.......well if gingerbread comes out in the next couple of weeks then there is every chance...if not....well i like the look of the xperia neo
these are the facts
this phone is awesome
it sucks in the same respect bc nobody, wants to dev for it, i have not seen a single anything in the last 6 months, and finally we get a leaked buggy build from hongkong and an unlocked bl
id say 90% of atrix script kiddies on here suck
, all they do is ***** about release dates, and when is cyanogen coming, and when someone finally releases something, they troll the boards just ripping the guy a new a**hole
this phone is great but if you like modding your phone and flashing custom roms
this phone will never be there in my opinion,
and it doesnt even need an xda portal bc nothing is being developed, just gingerbread skins
and questions being asked over and over and over.
so in conclusion buy the gs2 if you like roms go to that thread , theres a ton
and if you like a great phone thats small and has a high resolution, and will probably never see a custom rom, but is stable, buy the atrix

wohooo..that is like too much of hatred.
Let me put in some facts regarding the development in this one:-
The BL has just been unlocked and custom roms are being worked on, you need to follow the devs on twitter and check out the Atrix dev section on Rootzwiki, just go the irc chat and find out more.
Official GB should be released soon, if it is not then an Atrix has already been donated to the CM team and CM should come out for the Atrix.
The leaked 2.3.4 build has nearly been perfected and AFAIK it is fit for daily use.
thanks for all the suggestions. I am quite fond of flashing ROMs. I bought a HD2 just because of its ability for modifications. since there isn't much work being done on moding Atrix, I guess I'll have to opt for Galaxy SII (btw I didn't like it due to its size)
There is a ton of development going on now for the Atrix. The last couple of weeks has been insane as far as that goes. Official Gingerbread 2.3.4 is rumored to come out this month. There is a leaked version that is pretty stable out now. The boot-loader is now FINALLY unlock-able so DEVs are going to and have already started new Kernels and ROMs. Choice is yours though.
Nah..don't bother with the stupid 2.3.4 Chinese leak. Its buggy and some limited functionality. Don't really see the point of flashing to the leak 2.3.4 update then reflashing it with the official 2.3.4 update. Flash much!?
Buy the Atrix when the official 2.3.4 comes out and check back XDA after a couple of months when fully functional roms and themes comes out. No need to frustrate urself and end up like the other idiots who can't read and flashed 2.3.4 and screwed up. Alot of that been happening lately.

[Q] I'm confused about this Razr...

I am no expert, I simply enjoy rooting pretty much everything I have relating to technology. Now, the Razr is an amazing phone, and BECAUSE its an amazing phone, I decided NOT to root it until a way to Unbrick became available. Well, that day came (A droidrzr dot come link), so of course, I rooted my Razr and installed the only rom I saw available for the VZW version. Here's the dilemma:
I am in no way making demands or trying to offend anyone, I simply have a question: Are there more ROMS coming out for the RAZR? I have seen all of the mods in these forums, I just have no need for them. I ask because the day my Evo 3D became 'rootable', about 4 or 5 ROMS rolled out right pretty much within hours, and while we DO have a custom ROM for the RAZR, umm...that's it. I appreciate the ROM, I have it installed, but supposedly the big deal was that there was no way to recover from an unbricked RAZR, and now there is, yet there's really no activity in the DEV section aside from people arguing about the locked bootloader.
Maybe I'm just ignorant and the fastboot files don't provide any help at all. I'll attribute that to what I said at the beginning, that I'm not an expert. I was just hoping someone could clarify because I literally check this forum twice a day hoping to see [ROM] at the beginning of a post and [CDMA] right next to it.
Thank you beforehand for any help or clarification!

easy answer
there's no real need of completely modded roms, and roms wich went out, are more optimization roms...
and... ics is on the way, think is a little useless, start thinking of making entire projects on gingerbread, knowing in a month we are going on a really different android version
True, true...but wasn't the ICS source/code already released? Or does it depend from device to device?

Atrix as Desktop Assistant

So i have used my Atrix since I got my GS3 over a year ago. I just stumbled across it and my car mount and I had a brilliant idea to use it as kind of like a small third screen for assorted tasks.
Since I've been out of the Atrix game for so long, which ROMs would provide the most compatibility and stability? I'm still not sure what all I want it to do, since I just got off work (night shift) and have no brain power left.
Thanks all. Will check back in about 8 hours or so when I wake up.
Cheers.
This is sounding suspiciously like a "Best ROM" thread but I'll see where it goes from here
Also for future reference, question threads go in the Q&A forum... Thread moved.

I agree with the moderator, it smells of best ROM material. but for arguments sake, lets look at it as if its not.
The better question would be what android version would I like to run on my Atrix? The Atrix has seen Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3), ICS (4.0), and JB (4.1-4.3)
Do a bit of reading in the dev thread section to decide.
