I am running the stock official GB Rom for my Atrix model. It is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked.
Quite after every reboot it happens that all the widgets fail to load and the message "Problem loading widget" is displayed.
This happens both with ADW Launcher EX and Go Launcher EX.
I tried to repair the permissions from the Recovery. It did not fix the problem.
Any suggestions, please?
Are you using a ROM?

I gave up running Faux kernels because of this problem. I could not find a way around it (fix permissions and certain re-unlock steps work for some people). What kernel are you running?
I wish there was a way around it for me. Between widget problems and webtop status bar issues I have not found a kernel that would work other than the stock one.
I forgot that I am using faux kernel, too! Can this really be the problem?

Yes, sir...if you flash the stock kernel the widget problems should go away. Some people have the widget problem and some don't. It goes away for some and it doesn't for others. I tried everything. Rom manager fix permissions, etc. Every time I used a Faux kernel my widget problems came back. Sometimes immediately, sometimes a few days later. I have never seen the "problem loading widget" error message on the stock kernel. Not ever....
Use ROM Manager to fix permissions (fixes issue in most cases). This is a very old problem. Simple search would have answered your question.

Besides repairing the permissions from the recovery, I also tried to fix them with Rom Manager, too.
Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem.
Update: it seems so much strange that a kernel could cause such problems. I read somewhere that the "problem loading widget" message usually appears when the widget is not able to load some resources. It smells like a permissions problem, of course.
Update 2: I also am no more able to fix permissions through rom manager, it gives me a generic error
Sorry for the bump but after reading some replies, I understand that I have not made myself clear.
Problem:
After a Reboot, the widgets display a "Error loading widget" message
Contexts:
Stock ROM, rooted and unlocked, Faux Kernel, ADW Launcher EX, Go Launcher EX
NottachTrix 1.2.2, stock kernel + ram fix, ADW Launcher EX, Go Launcher EX
Tried Solutions:
Fix permissions from Recovery
Fix permissions from Rom Manager

I used to get this exact same thing happening. Fix Permissions in CWM for some reason isn't as good as doing it from ROM Manager, then rebooting. This always worked for me, and it was the only semi-perma solution which ever surfaced as far as I know, other than going back to a stock kernel. I too use ADW-EX.

I (sort of) solved it: it was probably caused by Titanium Backup.
Even if the applications were not on the SD-card, there was something wrong with them (permissions, I guess) and the permissions utilities were not able to fix them.
Therefore, I re-installed the ROM and tried to install the applications from the Market instead of restoring them from TBA. Everything works now.
Thank you all for the suggestions, in any case!
Make sure whichever launcher you are using is not on the SD card. I had the same problem with go launcher as soon as I moved it to my SD. I moved it back to phone and haven't had the problem since.

A simple question, but I just can't seem to find the answer. I put the power control widget on my home screen. Now, how do I get back to its menu so I can add/remove functions? I tried throwing it out and then putting it back, but it just comes back up with the same 5 functions. Is there a way to clear the default? Thanks.
I am curious what the answer to that question is as well.
I don't think you can choose what you want in 2.1. (You can do it in 2.2)They just come in a set.
Correct me if I was wrong.
I went back and checked out my rooted MYT3G, I think you are right. Unless someone has figured out how to put the 2.2 power widget into a 2.1 rom. I think that would be pretty awesome. I miss that functionality on my Vibrant.
I think Power Widget is "Settings.apk" So try installing that. I know that GenieWidget and GoogleVoice work fine....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731625
download from the thread or try getting the apk from CM6 ADDON (thats what i did)
Sweet, going to check that out now.

trying what ? to install settings.apk ?
^ dropping it in system/app caused constant reboots.
I had to boot into stock recovery, then go into clockwork and finally restore a nandroid.
I would be careful using the linked post above. I have already replaced some stock apps from cyanogen, this is the first that gave me any issue.

U always have to be carefull
I havent tried settings.apk, but I would just install it using file manager. Thats how I got clock, geniewidget, and google voice working. Used files from cm.
^ The power widget is a system app, you don't install, you just drop it in system/app. The News/Weather and Google Voice are just apps...
I renamed the original Settings.apk and Settings.odex and then dropped the new Settings.apk from a Cyanogen rom in to /system/app/.
No go, I ended up having to restore the original files back.
Oh well, I tried.
there's a power widget in the market (non-free) that has the same look as the standard power widget, but has more options and lets you customize it. i haven't used it, but it sounds like it would work for ya.
i just looked it up -- it's called 'Power Widget by BK Mobility'.
Thanks, I actually found that app this morning after I made the post here. Am liking it. It works very well.
I have a rooted NT and GO Launcher v2.65 running with little to no problem except that everytime I reboot any widgets I have added report back:
"Problem loading widget"
None of the apps are loaded on the SD-Card. I've tried a clean install with a reroot with nothing done except Go Launcher and a gapp or two to test the widgets but still get the error. Am I the only one?
On a side note after I rooted I didn't have to search for the Go app link anymore it just accepts the default setting.
Thanks in advance.
***edit***
I reinstalled the launcher but didn't set it to the default and that appeared to have worked but once i set it to default the problem started again.

That sounds more like a problem with version of Go Launcher... Try a 2.5x version and see.
Thanks for the suggestion. I downgraded to 2.53 and so far so good.

2.53 was missing some features i liked in v2.6x
Edit. Nvm 2.63 is failing too now....

It's not Go Launcher. I have the same problem with Launcher Pro and ADW.
It's got something to do with the Nook.
Version 2.66 just cameout, alot of widget fixes in it. Might be worth updating to it and testing.
I just installed the update and now my widgets are there after a reboot.
Im usin 2.66 now with no problems. Thanks!
I updated to 2.66 but widgets are still screwed up after a reboot.

Same here. Seems that this is a problem if you make go launcher your default launcher (using homecatcher).

Thanks, uninstalling homecatcher fixed the problem. Widget issues have been driving me nuts.
I had the widgets not loading issue until I applied the 160dpi fixes listed in the GApps thread here.
This was the only change I made to my system, and right after it no widget problem, so I'm guessing it was the fix.
I'm using GoLauncher 2.66 and Homecatcher.
Do location based apps work now also?

I unsinstalled homecatcher but now the "n" button will only take me to the stock launcher. Go Launcher is set as my default launcher, but it doesn't seem to care.
Possible workaround.
So this seems to have worked for me on my Nook Tablet. Using Go Launcher 2.66 and Home Catcher to re-purpose the "n" button. Go Launcher is set as default upon boot, and upon hitting the "n" button. The 160 dpi fix mentioned above didn't work for me, and I was having this issue on all 2.65 and 2.66 of Go Launcher. This workaround seems to have fixed it for me. I got the initial idea from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360036
Using Root Explorer or similar tool move your alternate launcher APK from /data/app to /system/app. Change the permissions to 777 (all 3 rows checked in root explorer). Then restart, and you should be good. I have restarted numerous times now, and had no widget problems.
Step-by-Step Directions:
Open Root Explorer
Browse to /system
Click Mount R/W button
Navigate to /data/app
Long Press launcher APK file (for me it was com.gau/go/launcherex-1.apk)
Choose Move
Navigate to /system/app
Press Paste button
Long Press freshly pasted APK file
Choose Permissions
Check all the top 9 checkboxes (Read, Write, Execute for Owner, Group, Others), leave all others as they are.
Press OK
Navigate to /system
Press Mount R/O button
Restart Nook
Usual at your own risk disclaimer applies.
Thanks ffwalrus! That worked!

Nice! I wonder though if just changing the file permissions in place (in data/app) would achieve the same thing? The thing I'm curious about is how will an update affect the location change.

I am really not sure. I think its more about the order they are loaded than the permission settings themselves. I will try with Go Launcher 2.65, and see if I can update to 2.66 and report back.
Thanks ffwalrus, works great!

Great! Fixed it for me too. Reboot after moving hung 3-4x longer than normal though, so I got worried
I have reported these the past few days and every post was ignored either by people talking about their battery or about how they didn't follow directions. These are my issues and was wondering if anyone else has had these.
*frequency setting under advance settings for wifi is missing
*downloaded Widgets from play store won't show in .5.0 in the widget section of the app drawer
*installing adobe flash from touch installer doesn't work. When I try to view flash content from the web it says I don't have flash. (Fix: don't install flash from installer but instead wait and install it from the play store)

1. Not sure what the frequency option would do in the advanced wifi menu so I can't comment.
2. What launcher are you using? I chose to install apex launcher and my widgets show up in the app drawer. Trebeuchet sucks.
3. I chose to install flash through the installer and flash is working for me. Not sure if it's a specific site you want me to try but all the flash sites are use work.

Its an option to set the wifi to auto, 2.4, or 5ghz. And I'm using the razr ics blur launcher. Tried going back to trebechet and it wouldn't show either. I'll try apex or nova later. And one site had a funny video on it that I viewed on the last build just fine but this build using flash in the installer said I needed to updated flash and I went to the adobe flash test site and it said I had an outdated flash that I needed to update through the play store but if u use the flash from the installer there's no option to update or uninstall

Ok, you need to uninstall the razr blur launcher to get trebeuchet to show back up and also the razr launcher is the reason for your widgets not showing up. It has nothing to do with the rom. Just use apex and you're set. And you have the answer for the flash although mine worked from flashing through the rom.

I did not need to uninstall the razor launcher to get trebechet to show. Just had to reset defaults under apps. Also installed the apex launcher and the new Widgets still weren't there. So I did a full wipe reflashed .5.0 with apex launcher as default went to the market and installed a few Widgets and they still won't show up in my widget area. Went back to .4.5 and used the trebechet launcher as it is stock with previous builds of cm9. Went to the market installed a few Widgets and they showed just fine. Then flashed .5.0 over this flash like you would for any update and all the Widgets that I installed from the market using 4.5 are there. So I tried again to download more Widgets from the market and now those won't show. Only the Widgets that came with cm9 plus the Widgets I installed from .4.5

Have you tries flashing twice? I've never ran into this issue because I came from the early builds of cm9 which didn't require flashing twice. The most common problem with boot loops on cm9 is from not flashing twice. Try that.
Full wipe
Flash cm9 .5.0 or .5.1
Flash cm9 .5.0 or .5.1 again
Flash gapps
Reboot
Idk if that is the case for kitchen sink. I have not flashed that yet. Still too many issues and people seem to be having better luck with the miui portion of KS than cm9

I recently flashed Clean 1.2 and that's when this started. I use these apps often, so I know it wasn't an issue until I changed roms. Not getting any assistance in the rom thread. Wondering if anyone has seen this.
I am using ADW. I switched back to stock TW and I get the same view in the apps on TW, so it's not the launcher causing this..I have reinstalled the apps and it still happens.
Here is SQLite
This is File Copy
I believe it's caused by modified touchwiz launcher such as the 5x6 format instead of the stock 4x4 format.
No idea how to fix other than going back to the stock config'd launcher.
Just like the title says. I have some folders on my home screen with app shortcuts in them. Every time I open a folder, it keeps moving up and up and up until it disappears. And I cannot get it back unless I delete the folder and make a new one or I restart the phone. Please see the attached screenshots. I don't know how to fix this and I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this.
I don't know if it has done this before or not, I just noticed it earlier today. After I did a fresh clean install with a internal storage wipe.
I'm assuming its a bug. I'm using CyanogenMods default launcher.
I'm on CM12.1. 20160119.
Thanks!
I'm having the same problem. My surnia is also running CM12.1 but I'm on the 20160115-NIGHTLY. My workaround for now is using the Nova Launcher although I'd like to return to using Trebuchet.
I updated from scritch's 0.53 version (20150921) as far as I can recall and it didn't occur in this version.

Thanks. It must be a new bug then as I don't recall it doing this in previous versions. I did get a error message earlier today about Trebuchet stopping.

I did not get any errors.
The first two or three times I used the quick restart option to get my folder back, after that I tried out some different launchers since I wanted to do that anyway, but I stuck with Nova.
I just updated cm12.1 to the latest build 20160123 and I can say that this folder issue has been fixed.
A mod can close the this now if you wanna.
