Why do some apps not show up in the Android market on the Archos 101? For example, I use an app called My Backup Pro...it doesn't show up. I searched for Lookout Mobile...it doesn't show...neither does Norton Mobile Security. I searched around but didn't find an answer to this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
caseym
not all apps will show up... from my understanding, protected apps do not appear. i myself have been looking for a few, and had to resort to side loading them.

Thanks!

Paid Apps Outside US?
I installed v5-final and have done the market fix several times but I only get free apps - NO paid ones. The catch is that I am located in Costa Rica - could someone comfirm that paid apps are only available in North America/Europe. If ALL (free and paid) apps are available everywhere then I have to figure out my problem, if not, I will just buy apps like crazy when I am back in the states (unless someone knows a work-around). Thanks.
I just tried the same thing and now my market app doesn't work. Any suggestions. Thanks
Just fixed it

Titanium backup in use?
i need to ask everyone with this issue, is everyone having this issue using titanium backup, and only seems to have problems after pulling from titanium's backup?
ill give my reasoning for this question...if you are having an issue, with certain apps just vanishing from the market on your phone.... even if you know its installed....
have a look at the list of questionable apps in TB, is there a yellow ball, with NO "M" overlaying it.... this may be the issue... you may have to delete all backup s for said app that DO NOT have a "M" ...wipe that apps data (in TB) and trying to restore from a backup that DOES have the "M"
please check this out, and let me know if i figured this out right... i have spent way too long pulling my hair out over this...and it seems like this was a fix for me...so far... ill edit in a few days if it all holds out
additional, if you are getting an "app incompatible" in the market... and have changed your LCD density , you will have to change it back to its default (240 for the DX) the new market seems to check for that.. and must label the device as unusable with the app, even if you KNOW its working just fine... i hope the market gets fixed to tolerate this...but im sure its part of the NEW market compatibility check
Hi Migamix,
If you have backups that don't contain a Market link, no need to delete them because they won't interfere - as long as you restore the one that has the link, of course.
When batch restoring it's a bit different, the latest backup for the chosen platform is picked, so you have to ensure that that one has a Market link.
But in any case, if you have the PRO version you can long-click and force attach it to to Market afterwards.

the force to market did not work for me, at all...many times, many tries.. some days im on a rom flashing fest...and some of those times ive done a batch restore and had only 20 apps in my market list.. its odd but it seems the only time it worked for me was after having the market attached "M" notification on all the files i wanted...i looked at this issue after letting the market auto restore post rom install, and manually pushed a few more that were causing problems...but i saw how 80% of the apps i restored (data only) refused to keep a link to the market... poked around.... uninstalled a problem app... noticed one of my older backups had an "M" while the rest didn't...so, i used that backup, and moments later that app was available in the market, and had an update... so i went and did it with a few more.... all those apps i managed to get installed in this fashion...still after 3 days, have not dropped their market links...where as...sometimes after a force market linking...would only last an hour if at all
i wanted to post this because i saw how many others were having the exact issue...i wanted to see if there is something in the way TB communicates with the data of the market ...causing market link confusion...
it seems like there needs to be a little more work with the market tools in TB....
ps, there also a setting i messed with that changed the way TB was getting market links... i think it was turning off accurate market check...
hopefully this post doesn't require too much re-reading....im a bit of a bad multitask'r sometimes
OK, I screwed something up and now I cannot find a way to fix nor have i found anyone who has done what I have done. So here is an interesting question/challenge. First, the back story.
I never knew that the old market (before Play) could potentially authenticate you as a different user if you have multiple gmail accounts on your phone. So, one day while in the market, I was shocked to see a ton of my applications missing from the "My Aps" list. I did not notice that it was not logged in to the market with my default user account but instead another gmail account I have on the phone.
I researched a little, very little. I knoew about the market tools in titanium backup and thought I could get them back with the option that allows you to create market links for apps that were missing them. In the back of my mind, I figured if I didn't get an app from the market, it wouldn't create the link (or if the app doesn't exist in the market). Anyway, I chose the optin to create market links for all my apps in order to fix this issue.
Then I realized I was in th market with the wrong account so I changed it back to my default account and all my apps are showing up just fine.
Here is my problem: Any paid apps I side loaded from Amazon App Store and GetJar for free now have market links. The apps won't update from the market. I get an error -"Download denied because you did not purchase this app" - On my phone the app shows up in my apps list as purchased - it does not show up on my apps list when I log in to the market (now play) from a PC and look at my apps list that way.
Sooooo, I go in to titanium backup and remove the market link for all the apps giving me the market error. I check my apps in the market and the apps appear to have been removed.
Great, problem should be solved but it is not. Sometimes, later in the day or maybe a day or two later, the issue starts up again. It's as if the deleted market link is getting recreated automatically somehow.
So as far as the market/play go, there is a list on internet with google that is correct as far as the apps I actually downloaded and purchased from the market AND a completely separate list kept on my phone that seems to trump the actual list on-line stored with my account.
Does anyone know a way to manually clear out my local cache of the market/play market links for good?
I even noticed after the fact that a market link now gets created for anything I side load if the same app is available in google play.
The last thing I tried was removing all market links and slowly adding them back one app at a time (for the ones I know I got from the market) but then the old sideloaded ones start getting their links again for no apparent reason.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I don't want to.
Over the past few weeks (since 621 pushed to Droid Xers) I've done more factory resets and 621 sbf'ing than I ever care to do again. I lost my phone after all that and got it replaced with one from insurance that shipped to me with .605 so I just recently got root back, restored my phone with titanium backup (which seems to have restored this problem for me) got OTA rootkeeper and now I am on 621 rooted.
1. - I'm chicken. Don't want to lose root on this 621 and am afraid to factory reset it.
2. If my root is safe on 621 with a factory reset, I would have to take a full backup and use that to restore after the factory reset. This will probably end up restoring the issue again after hours of running a backup restore.
I'm a bit shell shocked over the entire 621 ordeal and am trying to find out another way to fix this issue without having to perform a factory reset and then manually installing all my apps one at a time since TTBU will probably just restore the issue again. My left eye still twitches.
I have cleared all cache as well as Davlik cache without success.
Is that the only suggestion? Is there a file I can manually edit or delete that can clear this off my phone? It is an entirely different phone than the one the issue originally popped up on. My backups seem to have preserved whatever is causing it.

EDIT: I updated titanium backup today and came across a statement in the release notes in regards to the market doctor and links. seems Google Play is taking control over these things more on the server side and less on the device side which may or may not be crippling some of the current market link functionality in TB . At least that is how I interpreted what I read. So I went through my apps and started deleting market links again for apps I know I side loaded. So far so good. I'll report back in a week if there are no further replies or issues.
EDIT2: Seems I am not getting update notifications from the market for those side loaded apps but there is more glitchiness goodness. Almost all of my apps are showing up in the market as "not installed" but they are. Thinking I may just factory reset anyway. Just don't want to lose root although I've read I won't. Still looking for another way.
Edit3 - OK, sorry but factory wipe and reset might fix the issue and I might not lose root but I won't know what went wrong. And I need to know why this phone is glitching the way it is with the market so I dug deeper. Several things I noticed while paying attention to the phone for a long time AND viewing the logs; services were restarting over and over again. I kept getting strange JVM issue showing up in the logs and a lot of warnings and errors. I reset permissions and it changed little. Check device administrators and discovered several of my rooted apps did not have their administrator rights eneabled. So i enebaled those. I also noticed my Bakup Assistant stopped working and would not accept my PIN no matter how much verizon tried to help or how much I used google. All solutions for clearing google play data/cache and sync data/cache ended with a force close of application manager. Very messed up.
The play store was missing most of my apps when viewed from the android app but everything seemes to be there when viewing the play store from a pc. very strange. Then I discovered a little gem I hadn't known about before. In the batch jobs for titanium backup there are two interesting options. On is to clear all cache from user and system apps, the other is to clear all data from user and system apps.
I ran both jobs, cache first then data. But I did not run it on all apps. I narrowed the selection down to google play store, google framework, sync manager (or something like that) and both backup assistant apps (app + client). Yes I like to keep stock rom, Then I went in to the google play store...
Many of my apps were still missing but a bunch did show up. I used Titanium backup to destroy all market links for all user apps then I used it again to recreate them. Then I went back t the googleplay store and that is where I am now.
Almost everything is showing up for an update. So I choose to update all.
The apps I side loaded are getting errors. BUT, the google play store appears to be destroying the market links for those apps because when I go back in to the play store, they are no longer listed but remain installed on my phone. I have about 30 more apps to go through but it appears all of this has fixed the issue combined with the new play store and the way it works with apps. I'll report back again in a few days once things settle down and I'm sure the issue is resolved or not.
EDIT4: I have 12 apps remaining with this issue - going to try this app and suggestions - aytchTeeTeePee://davesdroid.blogspot.com/2012/03/android-market-issue-now-fixed-for-me.html
Probably won't be back here for a few hours, I'll let ya'll know how this turns out later.
Edit5: I lost track of which threads I was responding to, thought I put this here but had to copy paste from another thread -
Well, I ran that market fixer app twice. the first time it found 47 bad market links. Most of them look like apps that are no longer available in the market for what ever reason and the rest were some side loaded apps that don't exist in the market. so I cleared all those out.
I ran it a second time and it didn't find any bad links so i had it scan all links. i manually selected the 12 apps that were side loaded and still asking for updates in the market that it won't allow me to get. After removing those 12 links with this app, i no longer seem to have the issue. all my market apps are up to date and the proper ones are showing as installed, no more invalid market links.
I don't think this app alone fixed my issue. I found a lot of issues on my phone (read entire first reply from me above with all the edits).
The last few things I did was to remove and reinstall Launcher Pro (from the market/play store) since I don't do roms and don't like default blur. My phone is now snappier than it has ever been, seriously never ran as fast as it does now.
I've been using setcpu for a while and recently started adjusting my vm heap size but both were unstable before today. finally got the fastest vm heap size figured out (40m) also. I'm due for upgrade in may but am holding on to that upgrade until (hopefully) the galaxy Note comes to Verizon as the journal or whatever. so I'm really happy to have a my phone working again and working pretty fast also. I can't tell you how many performance issues it's had over the past few weeks that all started when i did a complete app restore from titanium backup and shortly after upgraded to .621 with OTa rootkeeper. I've had this phone for 2 years (since froyo) and have taken all OTA's and pulled all the tricks to retain or regain root so my titanium backup probably had a lot of garbage in it and restoring it to a functional phone may have screwed something up.
As much as I thought I would have had to do another wipe/factory restore, i am so glad I didn't. I've learned more about An-Droid X over the past 2 months than I have in the past 2 years of using them.
Performance comparison
I originally wanted to post this here (h-t-t-p-://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771232) but I haven't enough posts yet for the dev forums. After fixing my above issues and talking about how snappy my phone is, I thought I'd post some numbers that may or may not help folks understand why this was pretty exciting.
Phone properties is stock 4.5.621.MB810 rooted from .605 with OTA root keeper.
Droid X
Android 2.3.4
Running at 1GHz via SetCPU plugged in profile. Nothing disabled (not in airplane mode)
No build.prop edits with default Dalvik heap size of 32m

Multi-threaded - MFlops: 10.965 Time: 15.38 Normles: 3.21 Precision: inconsistent
Quadrant Standard: 1176
After much tweaking I settled on a 40m davlik heap size (stable) and I edited my build.prop minus the screen density and button light tweaks from here h-t-t-p-://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771232 and these are my new numbers.
Linpack
Single threaded - MFlops: 16.34 Time: 5.11 Norms: 5.68 Precision: 2.22
Multi-threaded - MFlops: 15.28 Time: 11.03 Norms: 3.24 Precision: 2.22 inconsistent
Quadrant Standard: 1763
So yeah, only a few months left with this device and it's running better than ever.
EDIT1: I forgot to mention that clearing my davlik cache and clearing the cache partition brought those 12 side loaded apps back to the market. I had to rerun the market fixer app to get rid of them again but the dev noted this in the release notes so it was to be expected.

I don't have an issue purchasing apps from the play store. That's the strange part. Only that some of my side loaded apps were appearing in the update list on the play store. Not sure that link or the info in it has much to do with my complaint but thanks for posting it. I'll save this info for future reference if need be.

hi i don't know what u're experiencing is similar to what others users and myself are experiencing but i hope my solution helps.
first try using market doctor found within titanium backup itself. it seems to work for some people.
if it doesn't, which is in many cases, including mine, got to apps > google play store > clear cache, clear data and also remove updates.
it will make up phone go back to market but dun worry, it will be automatically be updated back to play store in awhile.
viola! apps all refreshed.
hit thanks if this helps!

Nah, that never worked nor does it still. The best success I've had at holding off this issue for days at a time is an app called Market Fixer available in the play store. It seems to work for several days, then for no reason at all, the apps are back again.
My understanding is that this is a long standing issue on google's end.

I have GTA on my 8gb but it doesn't get past the load/ credits screen. Just curious if anyone has had any luck getting it to work?
Also, it seems weird to me to post a question about an app not in the apps forum. But i do not want to be a rule breaker. Just a statement, not a question.
gta on nook tablet
Im trying to as well. I downloaded an apk file but it keeps crashing after the intro.
Sorry cant help directly because ive got a 16gb. One of you tried DLing an apk (im not promoting warez just accepting the fact you may have used that ) I installed from the market and let it download. After that it wouldnt go any further than launching the application. IF youre having problems after the download then i would clear all of the data for it through a file explorer (com.rockstar.games ) and delete that. Then uninstall GTA3 and re-install from the market (or whatever you got your apk from).
hope it helps in some way
Good morning,
I would greatly appreciate help from anyone who could bail me out of the situation I got myself into.
Here's the background: My wife and I have been using SGSII for about two years and during this time I have successfully been able to utilize odin oneclicks and TiBu to upgrade our phones several times. Unfortunately, this is the extent of my exposure to android and rooting and ROMS etc. So I basically need dead simple answers without jargon.
We have been pestered by the OTA update requests for ICS for several weeks. I wanted to skip that and get to JB and since the GB27 one click is available I decided to go for it. I had no problems on my phone and used TiBu to get all my programs and settings back just fine.
If I had to screw up on any phone I wish it was mine because now I'm in the doghouse with my wife. Short version: did selected directory backup via usb (mainly pictures and a couple of key apps) and had the TiBu backup on microSD. GB27 installed fine. However, found out the MicroSD was corrupt/unreadable (found out afterward she had been having problems but didn't know it was due to bad SD card).
All apps installed fine from google play except the one app she specifically told me she needed - SplashID. I used my microSD and transfered the file folder from the PC and managed to get it on her phone. Now on google play it shows that we have it installed but when I try to run it tells me that we have to buy the app. I'm sure that this is because the android ID changed and it doesn't recognize my wife's phone.
My question is how can I fix this? I tried using TiBu to restore previous ID but it doesn't find a prior android ID.
I really need some advice to help save me. Any advice?
Thanks in advance,
-Steve
Contact google, you had your receipt sent to your e-mail account.

From my experience as long as I use the same Google account I purchased the app with there is no problems with re-installing the app directly from the Playstore then I restore data using TB if required. I sometimes have issues with TB not backing up the market links properly.
Basically if you sign in using the same Google account then the purchased app should show as purchased but not installed once you click it in my apps you should be given the option to install. If you aren't then gastonw has provided the only other option.
Sent from my PACman GT-I9100 using xda premium
GastonW - Thanks for the advice. I will try contacting google through the play store tonight.
Auss - The device is definitely linked to her google account. She has only ever had one google account and all the apps except the paid ones reinstalled fine.
From searching on the forums it does seem that this is related to the android ID changing when the system was wiped and upgraded to JB. Unfortunately, since my TiBu backup was hosed on the microSD card I am unable to restore the previous Android ID or the app backup.
I am hoping that google will be able to restore my prior android ID otherwise it seems I might have to contact each software developer of the paid apps and try to get them to honor the app. Has anyone had to go this route?
Again, any feedback or advice is appreciated. I will keep you posted on my progress with this dilema.
-S
Always keep Tibu updated, it will prompt android id change when it actually changes.

Ok, I blew it! (he says sheepishly)
This is one of those situations where I should have check my premises.
I was updating my wife on my troubleshooting efforts including contacting Google and SplashData when she happened to mention that she actually does have another google account. She did not realize it had been linked to her phone before but after I added it back to her phone the problem with SplashID resolved.
I do appreciate everyone's helpful advice and I appologize for the wild goose chase.
Thanks again,
Steve

Hey, I'm new to the forum and wanted to say thanks in advance for the help and to mention that I searched the forum before posting so I apologize if I've overlooked something.
I recently purchased a Polaroid PMID720 dual core Android 4.1 tablet to keep myself busy at work and I don't have access to the Google Play store, I had purchased a Polaroid PMID701 for my daugher for Christmas and had no problem getting the Google Market installed but so far I haven't been able to do the same with this one. I initially triend installing the older Google Market following the instructions found at the-digital-reader website (these are the instructions I used for my daughter's 701) but after I get it installed and attempt to start the app it crashes when I try to add my Google account. While searching I've stumbled onto the thread for the Polaroid AIO software several times but Southern Telecom (the company that makes the Polaroid tablets) doesn't offer the firmware for the PMID720 on their website.
I know that this is far from a high end tablet - it was purchased to watch a few videos, read some ebooks, and screw around on the web when I'm dead at work - but not having access to the Google Play store severly limits its usefulness (the Amazon store suuuucks). Any advice is appreciated and, again, thanks in advance for the help.

Google: "Installing Google Play without rooting on Android Mobiles or Tablets"
I cannot enter the url. I had the same exact problem as you. This method has worked for me (I also have PMID720 and got the same error as you when following the instructions that worked with earlier models).
While I was able to get Android Market installed, Google Services seemed to crash constantly. Also, none of the music apps running on the PMID720 recognized the playlists on my SD card (the same playlists that worked flawlessly on my old Emerson EMS543 and another Android device).
So, my solution was to return the PMID720 and exchange for a PMID705. Yes, it's slightly slower and less memory, but everything works: Android Market, Play Lists, etc... And, it was $30 cheaper.
I followed the instructions at:
http://www.the-digital-reader.com/2...ps-gplay-etc-on-polaroi-pmid701/#.UN48FG9X2WZ
The Play Store would say 'blah no data provisioning' or 'no reliable service...'.
I then went to Settings>Accessibility and at the bottom there is box to enhance web accessibility. I turned that on and launched the Market and followed the prompts. Afterwards a Google account was in my settings and I could access my apps at the Play Store. I then reset the Accessibility setting to 'Not Allowed' because I do not know what all it does.
I should also mention that I altered my '/etc/hosts' file, but I am not sure that was needed. I immediately downloaded the XDA app and saw your post. Wierd, huh?
Hope this helps.
Edit: I erased the google market and retried my steps and they failed. I had to install the apps in this order to get it to work again (I did leave the Accessiblity feature on again):
1) OneTimeInitializer-signed.apk
2) SetupWizard.apk
3) GoogleServicesFramework-signed.apk
4) vending-3.1.3-signed.apk
When I tried to connect with my gmail I got the same errors as above until I rebooted my tablet, it then finally connected. I sincerely hope this works for you. Also if you have installed any of the above, delete their data and reinstall.

I followed your instructions, but after the reboot, I still got the no data provisioning error. I then toggled the wifi to airplane mode and back and then I was able to sign in and download apps from the Market and the Gmail app began syncing. Chuck

That post will tell you all you need to know to get Google Play Store (the ICS version, whatever that was) on your PMID720. I just finished doing it, and it is working fine. If only my wireless at home was! lol
I used the wireless adb portion of the play_alpha2 package. It worked flawlessly, once I realized which copy I needed to download. They all have exactly the same name, but they're not all identical packages.
Good luck!

Updated method!!!
I can't be the only one out here still using this tablet and trying to figure out how to improve it! The Google Apps are still working just fine. No forced closes or errors of any kind. I am pleased as punch about this, but it's kinda frustrating to come in so late in the game and find nobody looking anymore.
