ICS Feauture: Encrypt phone. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, question for you guys.... I would like to try the new feauture on ICS that let me encrypt my phone (I think it will take more or less 1 hours) and I think It will encrypt almost everything. But no idea how it works. Do u think it will be a problem for cwm recovery ? I mean usb storage, flashing ecc ecc or I ha ve to switch the phone on to use the memory card in my Nexus S ? thank you !

hello

If you encrypt you will not be able to mount /sdcard in CWM, and probably nothing else either
I wouldn't use it until they release a way to unencrypt the phone after, currently only way is to lose all data and reflash rom :/

cwm restoration problem

I tried yesterday to install a theme but did a newer cwm4 backup just in case.... I had done this many times before with no problems whatsoever... But this time it didn't go well... Upon restoration I was greeted to the first time use screen and none of my apps were restored... The previous SMS messages were there but not the contacts or pretty much anything else. I tried extracting the data with appextractor but unfortunately it hangs on most options... But it does find the apks so they are definitely there I just don't know why cwm won't restore them... Anyone has any idea? I have a lot of information saved on the phone that I will be really screwed if I don't get it back...
Have you tried to repeat the restore?? If not, then wipe data, cache and dalvik and repeat the restore...

Many times and it's always the same case...
Try to reflash your rom (or another) and then to do the restore....

[Q]how to delete 0 folder?

when i flashed 4.2.1 a folder calls 0 came to us and actually it didn't help at all!
so now when im on 4.1.2, i tried a lot of things, wiped everything, cam back to stock, but it doesn't help to me, and why is that? ill tell you why.
because my gallery doesn't show photos that are not in the 0 folder.
what i mean? if i transfer my photos to the folder 0, ill see them there only. because if i transfer them to sdcard0, i won't see them.
and it also like this with my songs, it's like my media player of the galaxy doesn't recognize songs that are not in the folder 0.
what should i do? i deleted and transfered everything from 0 but it still doesn't work..
help plz anyone?
try aroma file manager
If you are on or plan on staying with any 4.2 roms I would strongly suggest you just leave it. Twrp has been optimized for it and it's not even an issue anymore.
If you still want to remove it just delete it in any file manager. Might want to look through it and save anything of importance first tho.

i am not using 4.2 anymore, im using 4.1.2, and that what happens to me when im on 4.1.2
start fresh with a megawipe
Full wipe
Try a full wipe.
Hope this helped.
a "wipe" won't format the internal SD
with the app Root Explorer or similar.
once you flash your 4.1.2 rom just use any file manager and get rid of the folder.
make sure to take out your pics and backups before you do that.
You also can do the wipes (data, cache...)

If you're unrooted, wipe data will hopefully remove 0 however if you're rooted it wont.
If none of the above methods work, wipe / format /sdcard from custom recovery

simple question and idea

I just root my S4, and it worked. I got hyperdrive on it and its ok...
I have 16GB S4 and there is a new rom from hyperdrive and I cant download it because I don’t have enough space on S4… somehow there is 7 GB in system memory… what can I do to minimalize that.. I don’t even have anything installed on it jet and its saying I got 700MB left… and what app are you using for resolution change like on yours S4…?
I also have two recoveries installed and I olny need one but idk how to get rid of second one...
and I had this idea yesterday and I want to know if u guys think its going to work...
I want to try different systems, so can I get my phone back to Verizon version rooted and install apps that I want. Do back up then, and from memory cards starts up system... so I will not lose my apps all the time and I could try something new each day all I have to do is change sd card.. is that even possible?

do you have any nandroid backups on the internal memory?
It wouldn't be automatic so not the way you describe it, but I've done it, even in the same sd card, just nandroid one rom then flash the next, then when I want the old one back I just nandroid the second and restore the first and so.on

1) You cannot reduce the amount of space allocated for system. It is a partition of fixed size.
2) Delete some of your downloads. They are taking up over a gig and a half.
3) Use an app like Folder Mount to move some folders from the internal memory to external and symlink to the expected locations.
4) Use Xposed Framework and the app settings module to adjust per app dpi and resolution.
5) You only have one recovery installed. When you flash a recovery image, the old one is overwritten.
6) Your idea will not work as described. You will have to go through setup and app installs for each rom, back them up, and then you can switch between the backups as often as you'd like.

I don't remember doing any... well maybe some time couple days ago, but since than I did couple more resets and reinstalling roms. I am new in all rooting and installing custom roms.. my S4 is my first phone that I am trying to lean as much as I can...
I know I have two recovery boots and I don't need that and I don't know how to deleted teamwin...
Once again, you only have one recovery installed. The screenshot that you posted is a generic setup screen in Rom Manager. It requires you to choose which recovery you have installed and is not an indication that those recoveries were autodetected.

[Q] If i encrypt my device using rom X then switch to rom Y... what happens?

Hello
I've 2 questions on the same way:
If i encrypt my device using LiquidSmooth for example, then i remove it and use... let's say AxxionKat, am i gonna erase, lose or damage all my stuff?
By the way, if i use rom X in slot 1 and use it to encrypt all my device and SD; then i switch to rom Y on slot 2... will i be able to read and use that files normally?
edit: i know both are in fact the same thing, but i wanted to illustrate the better i could... well, i hope somebody can understand me
