New to flyer need answer please - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Just got my flyer and It's unlocked thru the htcdev.com method. I have it rooted and have cwm on it.
I'm new to htc devices, have many other devices that I've rooted and flashed roms on.
With the flyer do I have to be s-off to flash a custom rom?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

It is not a yes no question. S off is easier to flash roms but you can flash roms with HTC dev unlock. If I were you I would read threads in development by globatron, revert to gb, then flash s off hc

What I've read about HTC unlock on my phone (Desire Z), is that with the unlocked bootloader you can still flash a custom ROM, but you need to use fastboot to do it. Also, it will not let you flash a custom recovery, except with fastboot.
Not sure if its the same case with the Flyer, but I'm guessing it is.
Can you actually get into CWM recovery? Did you use fastboot to flash CWM? If you didn't, it might not have actually worked, even if it told you it did. A guy over in the Flyer forums had this happen, where it said it flashed CWM successfully. But when he tried to get into recover, it just gave him the red exclamation mark.
All in all, HTC Unlock has been called a crap method by people who know more than me. You're better off getting true S-Off using Revolutionary (need to downgrade to GB if you are on HC). You don't explicitly blow your warranty, and you can flash whatever you want without fastboot.

Can someone make a new rooting guide?

Now that the HTCDev allows the unlocked bootloader, and stuff at their website, is there a better (read:easier, quicker) method of installing CyanogenMod? I had rooted my phone a long time back but I had issues and had gone back to Stock ROM for a long time. Now, I feel the need to go back to Custom ROMS.
Can someone tell me if the Google Market works well on CM7? That's all I care for, really.
Here is a guide I had posted a while back when I was an enthusiast. Could someone go through it and modify it in accordance to the new method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823625
Thank you, everyone!
Edit:- Now done Hboot 1.02 and unlocked boot loader, can't use clockwork mod update.zip :-(
I haven't yet done the hboot update to 1.02, but my understanding is that once you've done it, you can use clockwork mod to flash custom rom, the bootloader is already unlocked so shouldn't need rooting again.

There's no need for a new guide. Everything is described perfectly at HTCdev.

Sill me, I did not see the "Proceed to Step 1."
once you have Hboot 1.02 update done, you are NOT rooted, you need to use
HTC SuperTools v3 from here: http://barbey.me/?page_id=202
I did selection 1 then 3, then had su, but android commander reported no root access anymore

CM7 for the Legend is very mature.
Everything I use, including the Market, works fine.
Does the Wifi Access Point work on CM7 ? I've read on several custom roms it doesn't because of driver issues.

tethering works fine on a CM 7.1.0 device here ;-)
After I unlock my Legend with HTCDev,
I used the wildfire path on unrevoked.com
unrevoked installed clockwork mod and everything, so I just needed to put the cyanogenmod zip on my sd card and install from recovery.
very easy
I did pretty much the same thing as ranger4740. I used HTCSuperTool v3 to gain root but had problems flashing CWM Recovery from the stock recovery. So I did a bit of researching and ended up having to put my phone into fastboot and use adb to push the recovery image onto my Legend and flash it. After that I've had no problems with my rooted Legend Once I'm able to post links (because I'm still pretty new here) I hope to write a full updated root guide
The unrevoked method is seriously the easiest one and I've tried heaps of methods
Took me a half hour and I was playing with cyanogen 7.
I can put up some instructions if u like, but it would have to wait until I get back to the laptop, and honestly, its incredibly straight forward.

Check your hboot. If your hboot is less than 1.00 than unrevoke is the fastest way. Dont bother to bootloader unlock phone via htcdev. Since unrevoke also flash a cwm recovery. You can flash any rom directly from there.
But else follow the htc dev guide to unlock bootloader. Once your bootloader got unlocked. Use fastboot to flash your recovery to cwm. With this cwm recovery you can flash cm7 directly.
Before htcdev gave bootloader unlock for our legend, The only reason i found why we of thouse with hboot 1.00 and above need to downgrade to eclare is to also downgrade stock recovery to e2 from e3 which came during froyo. Because our cwn fakeflash update.zip only able to load from e2. Thus from eclare you can flash cm7.
The guides are there. Its already there. Many of us has use it successfully.

Noobs guide to installing a custom Rom on htc flyer

Hi ive instaled roms on my xperia play before and on a Samsung galaxy player, but now I want to do so on a htc flyer but all procedures are different so can someone tell me how to/point me to a guide for: the complete procedure of how I would install a custom Rom from unlocking bootloader to flashing the Rom in cwm?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
As long as its on Gingerbread, and its one of the supported Hboots, just follow this guide to get S-Off and root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
Its full S-Off, so no need to unlock the bootloader.
Basically:
Read read read
Get the needed files.
S-Off using the Revolutionary tool
Install CWM
Flash Superuser to get root
Then flashing a ROM is no different from CWM on any other device. Just put the ROM on your SD, go into recovery, and mash the volume rocker and power button to make the selections.
Only hitch is that hboot for Honeycomb is different from Gingerbread. So you can flash any GB based ROMs. But if you want to flash any HC, ICS, or JB ROMs, you need to upgrade to the HC hboot. You can do this by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
Then if you ever want to go back to GB ROMs, you have to downgrade the hboot.
thanks

Hello,
I flashed my HTC Flyer today but one thing does not work very nice. When I restart the device I always need to get into fastboot again and use this command: fastboot boot boot.img
What is the problem? Do I have to copy this boot.img onto the Flyer device?

Wrong command. The correct one is:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Use that, and you should be good to go. Easy peasy.

[ROOT] HTC EVO 3D Root Toolkit

Hi guys.
I have recently developed a simple HTC Evo 3D Root Toolkit. This toolkit is very simple and easy to use, just follow onscreen instructions and in few clicks root your device. After rooting process you will get Unlocked Bootloader (S-OFF),Custom recovery (you can chose within cwm, cwm touch and twrp), Root access(SuperSU or Superuser app). I update this app very soon and if you see some bugs and things like that please send me a message. App is tested and you must accept the Disclaimer window. The website for this app will arrive very soon. I hope that this app will be very useful for you and if you like it click thanks button and spread the word about this project.

I am not responsible for any damage to your device and bricking it...
...I've been trading PMs with ShadowGaba and this toolkit is quite worth it, actually.
For an unlock no0b such as myself, I was initially cowardly. In the end, after about 12 hours of trial-and-error, it's still absolutely worth it.
Although not entirely clear, SGs toolkit did a successful job of unlocking, installing a recovery, and installing a superuser.
Some of the steps almost felt superfluous, but SG's right; for the most part, follow the directions and you'll unlock successfully.
The only snag for me was having to switch to 4ext recovery (the toolkit offers only twrp and clockworkmod; it'd be nice if 4ext was one of the choices) in order to smartflash a ROM; only because I'm still on 1.58 hboot and S-on, post-unlocking. (Many ROMS just don't flash properly because of the 1.58 hboot and S-on; besides, many posts recommended 4ext recovery in smartflash mode to properly load ROMs, anyhow.)
Although I won't be enjoying any JB ROMs until I wire-trick my way to S-off and/or downgrade my hboot, I am currently enjoying Nega-Lite's Blu-Rom 2.95.651.5 immensely, without fail.
The battery-life and the smoothness are incredibly slick and worth it to flash to from my God-awful, battery-draining, store-bought VM JB OS.
I personally think I'm resourceful enough to get through any snags in the toolkit process, but ShadowGaba was well on-hand and curious to know if I unlocked successfully.
To the fearful, I'm sure SG would help out if you're stuck.
If you're questioning whether or not to unlock, I say go for it; so many delicious ROMs for your HTC EVO 3D await your discovery.
Cheers, ShadowGaba.

Important Note
After Unlocking bootloader using this toolkit you will be able to flash custom roms, but not the custom kernels.
But, using one simple trick you can flash custom kernels:
1.Boot into recovery using fastboot or using HTC Dumlock
For any other info, stay tuned in this thread.
Flashing 4ext recovery
I was searching around and i found way to flash a 4ext recovery.
Install .apk from attachment to your device or download the app from google play.

Okay meatfest. To get S-OFF you must downgrade hboot to 1.49 and use revolutionary to gain S-OFF.
I will explain why your bootloader says Unlocked and S-ON. HTC has modified new devices HBOOT-s, in other words , they have prohibited flashing custom kernels and some roms to your and mine device. So you have couple solutions:
1.Downgrade HBOOT and gain Revolutionary S-OFF
2.Use HTC Dumlock
3.Flash 4ext recovery
4.Boot into recovery using fastboot and flash ...
Thank you for replying and asstance,
Kind regards, Gabrijel

Hi, I have hboot 1.58 and software 2.95 and the HTC Dev Unlock method does not work for my phone. The commands go thru but the phone never switches to the Unlock Screen. Do you know of a way to unlock without using the HTC Unlock method??

I ran into the same issue with mine. The issue in my case it was the adb files needed to generate the code to unlock it per the HTC unlock method. The adb files I used (as I am sure you did the same) was part of some package that included it. So I decided to just download the adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030 and executed the CMD prompt from adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030\sdk\platform-tools. Then I followed the HTC Unlock instructions and it worked.

Stuck on "CID Incorrect!" after flashing recovery

Hey guys. Long story short, my friend wanted me to root his Evo 3D. I got S-Off using the HTC Dev Unlock method, flashed Ext4 Recovery, and ROMs wouldn't flash from within the recovery. So I flashed TWRP 2.6 using fastboot, and now I get a "CID Incorrect! Update fail!" message when I enter hboot. This wouldn't be a problem, except fastboot doesn't work. I realize now that I wasn't supposed to flash stuff with the recovery (I come from the Nexus 4).
Basically: CID Incorrect message is keeping me from flashing anything
How do I get rid of it?
HTC Evo 3D on Virgin Mobile
S-ON (Even though it's HTC Unlocked, so it's technically S-OFF)
HBOOT-1.58
WAS running CM 10.2, but it may have flashed P.A.C. Rom, but I can't get past the HTC splash screen
I don't care how dirty and quick the fix is, I just want one so I can get this thing off of my hands.

Technicaly, you just unlocked bootloader. S-off is totaly different thing and you can't get it with HTC Dev. Try flashing some sense ROMs
That's just it, I can't flash anything because fastboot won't detect the device.

Pls I'll be so glad if I can find some help.
You're already S-Off, why are you trying to unlock via htcdev.com?? To unlock via htcdev.com (which is not a complete unlock, unlike S-Off) then you have to be on the newest bootloader version. HBOOT-0.89.0007. I thought there was actually a link to the little RUU update that is just for the bootloader on the bottom of the walkthrough @ htcdev? It's been awhile since I played with one, but I'm sure it was there. If not, I can upload it. I am sure it's hanging around somewhere. But yea, unless you relocked it and stayed S-Off, all the htcdev stuff would not be needed.
Exactly as stated above
If there is an engineering bootloader for your phone you should get that as well, if I'm not mistaken the proper way of rooting your device is to exploit it with gfree, similar to the vision a phone I used for a long time, all info should be in the xda wiki to see if greed was used to exploit and how to flash the eng hboot

So pls how do I update to the latest hboot 0.89.0007 or how else can I unlock the bootloader and root?
What do you mean? It's the very beginning of the steps on how to unlock @ htcdev.com (and the RUU is there, just like I mentioned earlier). Are you certain that you need to do this? It seems like you have not done much research and might be getting yourself into more work than is needed.
so pls can I flash custom rom just with my s-off
Yes, you just need a custom recovery such as twrp, cwm, 4ext
But what you should do is go to the xda wiki or cyanogen wiki and follow the steps for rooting, these guides will give you true radio s-off, an engineering bootloader and a custom recovery so you can easily flash ROMs and easily fix your phone if issues come about
To answer you directly, yes you should be able to flash custom ROMs as is, but having to ask that questions makes me think you should read more about your device or the next thread you make will probably ask for help fixing a brick
