Hi, sorry for my bad english, I'll try to explain my question.
I downloaded the official firmware of my operator:
I9100UHKI6 ## 2012 January I9100ZVVKJ1 Brazil (VIVO)
Is a .zip file, it contains two files:
-SS_DL.dll
-I9100UHKI6_I9100VIKJ1_I9100ZVVKJ1_HOME.tar.md5
I think this .md5 is wrong, so should I delete the .md5 and leave the extension .tar?
And this .tar, In Odin's where I'll upload the. Tar?
Thanks
No, do not remove the md5 bit. tar.md5's will flash just fine in Odin, many (all ?) of the firmwares Intra used to have the md5 appended to them. Flash this file in the PDA section of Odin, or more importantly, follow the instructions from wherever you downloaded it from.
As to the dll file, no idea what that is/what it's for.

In there is TAR file in side. If you open it with WINRAR(you first package what you downloade), then click to the TAR file two times, it ask you PASSSWORD(in samfirmware, where you downloaded it).
PHP:
## Password is samfirmware.com
# Password is samsung-firmwares.com
You must install it with ODIN like ONE PACKAGE. Check the ONE PACKAGE box and use in ONE PACKAGE button this .TAR file what you extracted from that(S5830JPKC2_OJPKC1_JXKC1) ZIP file!
CHEERS!

thanks mate <3
I'm new to rooting,
Android Version= 2.3.3
Baseband Version= I9100NEKF2
Kernel version= 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF4-CL280512
Build Number= GINGERBREAD.XWKF4
Firstly am i looking for KF2 or KF4?
I downloaded the zip file for KF2 from chainfire afew posts down where he writes "yet more downloads" but i get a zImage file being extracted instead of the .tar file i expected.
what am I doing wrong? where is the right root kernel for me? I want to use Chainfire's as he provides everything in one.
Thanks.
You need to know your PDA version, not baseband. *#1234# in keypad and see it. Then download the same XXX.zip from CF thread. If you download that .zip file then you will get .tar after extraction, then to get the zImage you have to extract that .tar file again.
Regards.

Thnks, my PDA is XWKF4 so I just downloaded CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4. The same thing happens when I extract though. the zImage is for when you already have root to flash from SDcard isnt it? I havent got root.

That's the right file you downloaded. I just checked for you again, and I do get .tar file if I extract that downloaded zip with 7Zip/WinRar. Don't know why aren't you getting it!!!

Are you downloading a kernel instead of the cwm and root file .
As said 6mb file zipped unzip that file open the folder and inside is a tar file . Flash the tar file do not open it .
You are opening the tar file is your problem .

What's the size of the zip you downloaded, is it ~6 MB?
Make sure you are downloading this one,

Thanks guys. Got Root now, what do i do with the superuser/CWM apps, also installed ROm manager and titanium backup but dont want to mess about before i know exactly what im doing.
I know i want to freeze/remove all the bull**** i dont need, what else can i do with root now and how?
I just flashed UHLB2 from Intratech's thread.
My phone downloaded the file fine, and Odin had a green 'PASS!' in the top left corner. I think it installed OK as well as I saw the word 'Sucessfully (something)' just before it rebooted.
But now trying to turn it on, the phone is in a perpetual state of starting up. It just replays the starting animation over and over again.
What is wrong?
Also, I noticed the file I downloaded was ~286MB, as opposed to ~333MB in the file from sammobile. Intratech's file was .7zip, and sammobile's was just .zip.

I'm just speculating... I don't think 7zip files are compatible with Odin. That's probably your problem. The 7zip file from Intratech will contain compatible zip files. You can extract it using the program 7zip(freeware) which I'd highly recommend for general use anyway.

Yeah I do unzip the files with 7zip, after which it is a .md5 file.
And I've flashed many times before using that method so I don't think it's that. Thanks anyway.
.7zip file is not supported by Odin.
You need to extract that .7zip file, you will get .zip file that supported by Odin.
I think the downloaded file you used is incomplete. Most of the file sizes downloaded are around 350MB or higher. Recommend you re-download the file again or even an older release and re-flash the phone.

Just rename .md5 to .zip file.

No. Odin can flash .md5 so you should leave it. md5 files actually help because Odin can check the md5 hash and stop if the file is corrupt/incomplete.
But you have to extract it from 7z because it can't flash that.
Sounds like you've got an incomplete file if the file size is less than what you'd expect. Re-download and try flash again.
Also, to those saying extract the 7zip file; I'm pretty sure OP said he had done that before flashing and had used the .md5 file. Unless I'm reading his posts wrong, in which case, yes unzip the 7zip file and flash the .md5.

Hm..
I've downloaded and flashed again, but I have the same problem. The new file was bigger than the original one, so the original was probably incomplete. But the file has been at about 274MB for about 6 hours now on Intratech's post. I guess I'll just have to stick to LA4 for now then.
Hey everyone
I have a question which I coudn't find anywhere on the forum for an answer...
I have a firmware for my galaxy ace named S5830XWKTM_S5830OXXKT3_S5830XWKT7_HOME.tar.md5
and I wanted to edit the baseband so I could make it work in my S5830L by just changing "amss" file...
But I can't change it if they are in .md5 and if I change the file to .zip and transfer amss, I can't change it back to .md5
How can I turn S5830XWKTM_S5830OXXKT3_S5830XWKT7_HOME.tar.zip into S5830XWKTM_S5830OXXKT3_S5830XWKT7_HOME.tar.md5
I don't know if you understand my question...
so here is what i understood you want to extract the. tar file change a file and repack it right. ... how different is the l version different from the Normal one

yes
The only difference is the frequency for 3G
S5830 uses for HSDPA 900 /2100
and S5830L 850 / 1900
By deafult odin has checksum md5 verification thats why there is a .md5 extension even if you manage to repack it the file wont get flashed through odin......
i have a workaround for you
flash the file directly there is a tutorial to extract and flash only baseband use that after flashing that zip .......

I think I found it
I just created my .tar file to flash it through Odin.
But I have a question
Can I create a .tar file with the complete firmware and flash it through Odin?
followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558715
I just added everything that was in the .md5 , replaced baseband file and put it back again in a .tar file
you can but need the change the checksum to the new value its better if you flash it seperately

Oh, but what do you mean with changing the checksum
the checksum is only to check if the file is corrupt or not or if it has been modified...
well checksum adds up all the files finds it's size and store's it when yoy change a file they may be of different: sizes so the checksum verification fails

Its not like im using the same .md5 file.
All I did was extract all the files from the .md5
Repacked them into a .tar file and it should be flashable through Odin...
Since its not .md5 it won't do a checksum
I added the .tar file into Odin - "One Package" and doesn't give me any error or anything... So I guess it should work the same as changing baseband does.
EDIT:
Thanks alot for your help
I managed to repack all the files to make a firmware flashable through Odin
All I did was this
$ tar -H ustar -c (all unpacked files in here) > firmware.tar
$ md5sum -t firmware.tar >> firmware.tar
$ mv firmware.tar firmware.tar.md5
I just flashed it through Odin and no problems at all
i thought that you were using the base ace rom by changing the file so said that checksum would vary btw your problem is solved right edit the title thread to solved it will say others time.....
Hello,
Sorry for a noob question, I tried to search for solution, but couldn'f find anything.
I downloaded last update from sammobile.com, and would like to update my phone, but downloaded zip file does not contains md5 or tar, but folders like META-inf, patch, preload, recovery system and sboot.bin file.
Could you please advice me how to update this firmware to my phone?

i didn't unzp anything. I said that zip file that I downloaded from sammobile web site does not contain tar or MD5 file, but the folder structure.
No idea then what you actually downloaded .
Requirement is a tar file not a zip.
Try the sammobile forum for answers .
Or use CHECKFUS
