Hi, recently I got this ATT update notification on my atrix. (I'm not living in the US but my Singapore phone somehow is the ATT build xD - No don't ask me how I got it xD). Is there any way to block this update from popping out?
Thanks.
If you are rooted...
If you are rooted you can use Titanium Backup to freeze "Updater" and/or "Upgrader". I am not sure which one did the trick; I just froze both of them.
Thanks
Thanks for the info, that stupid updater was driving me nuts. I was using "Advanced task killer free" to continually clear the data that was downloaded. but anytime i turned wifi on it would pop up again. last night i was in the middle of txtn and that box popped up while i was typing & hit the install update before i could even do anything it was shutting off my phone & rebooting to install the update. luckily i was able to boot into rom manager & do a system restore to prevent the update from installing. So per your post i paid for the Titanium Backup Pro version to freeze the app to keep that from happening again. Great work!!!!

Title says all, but to be more specific:
Till morning, nag screen from ATT appears reminding me to update, what I don't like to do. It has no option to stop and only possibility is to say later wich means it will appear after one hour. I was unable to uncheck automatic updates box in settings, as there is no in settings.
Dear Gurus, please help with issue, I hope it is not only me who doesn't want to update until new will be rooted.
Yes, and I'm not ATT customer, I have unlocked phone.
ATTENTION !
If you frozen "update" process, it has to be unfrozen even after hard reset. I spent lot of time to find why update procedure doesn't start until I checked "update" process which I froze before hard reset.
I found solution. I used Bloat Freeze to freeze process named "update" (do not freeze "upgrade" by mistake !!!)
can you give a little for info iv been trying freeze this for hours reading and not finding a workable solution i need more details please
With Titanium Backup Pro you can freeze the apps "Updater 2.2.1" and "Upgrade App 2.2.1". That worked for me

it realy shouldent be this hard to just say no but it is
You only need to freeze the process "update". It has no numbers in my Atrix
As the title says, I have no data from my home WiFi or 4G from the cell signal, despite them being shown as connected.
I noticed it just a few minutes ago. I was looking into Voodoo RootKeeper because I haven't updated to the latest OTA update and I've been wanting to soon, it was mentioned that SuperUser should be fully updated for it to work. While looking through SU settings, I noticed the option to set SU as a system app, so I did it. It rebooted and just before finishing the boot it had a message saying something about configuring apps (similar to what you would see after an update, I believe). Once it finished I was going to update some apps that needed updating and Play said it had no connection, checked Chrome and it was the same story. So here I am.
It is rooted, also has an unlocked bootloader (which is why I've waited so long to do the OTA). I haven't updated since I got it at the beginning of December last year, so the current version I'm running is 4.1.1
Any help is really extremely appreciated; my smartphone becomes a dumb phone without any networking, dumb phones make me sad :crying:
Edit: I fixed it, somehow. I temp-unrooted with Voodoo, tried to complete the OTA update (failed because of recovery or something), re-enabled root after update, and then I had data back. Leaving this post here in case someone comes across a similar problem.
Folks,
Phone was acting very odd today...had to force close a bunch of apps. Rebooted, phone looked as it went back to factory reset since I was asked to re-enter my google account info. Once I did that, all my icons were set back to default but otherwise, all apps/data were there. However, texting didn't work. Updated my profile. Afterwards, I get a notification that update to 45.3.6 was available so...I updated. All seemed well but still...no texting and still had to force close a bunch of apps. Later, I received notification that 45.4.13 was available so...I updated. This update got stuck and all I saw was the infamous rectangle/Andoid Icon. I rebooted and it would just hang at the Dual Core MOTO logo. Cleared cache...no dice. Finally, hard reset to factory. Still...no boot. Hangs on Dual Core Logo. Using recovery, went to see if I could install update via Sdcard. It wasn't there to use.
Question...what the f*uck do I do now?? Phone is not rooted. Can I transfer 45.4.13 to sdcard using file transfer from my laptop somehow. If oyu choose to offer help, please be as detailed as possible since I am no expert by far!
Thanks!

Hi all,
I just got an S5 today and it has KitKat 4.4.2. I accidentally clicked on the "Software Update" button in the "Settings>About Device" page and it started downloading Lollipop OTA. I couldn't find any way to stop the download. I have no intention of upgrading to Lollipop any time soon, so now I'm stuck with nearly 1GB of wasted space and an annoying nag to update.
I've been looking through this forum and it seems like the only ways to get rid of the nag and clear out the downloaded update require a rooted device. I prefer not to root my device so I'm wondering if there's any way to get rid of the nag and the downloaded OTA update without rooting. Do I pretty much have to do a factory reset?
If factory reset is my only route, will the OTA update just get automatically pushed back out and downloaded to my phone in a few days or weeks? If so, there wouldn't seem to be much of a point in doing a factory reset if the update will just come back. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
John

In my case, disabling "Software updater" or something similar in Application Manager stopped the auto update (you can verify by tapping on "Software update" in settings again and nothing should happen).
Thanks for taking the time to respond. The post you linked was one of the articles that I looked at previously. The suggestions in the post seemed to only be applicable to rooted devices so I wasn't really able to use them. But thanks for linking it nonetheless.
In the Application Manager, I see two "System Update" applications. One can be turned off but other can't so I guess by default that that will be the one I'll stop. When I try to turn "Software Update" off, it gives me a nasty warning about stopping a system app and causing instability. Has turning off that application caused any instability on your device?
Also, all of these suggestions deal with how to prevent the OTA from downloading, but do you know of any way to get rid of the update and free up the space once it's already downloaded? I accidentally downloaded the OTA update and I'd like to remove it and have the phone not download it again. Will I have to do a master/factory reset in order to get rid of the update?
Thanks again for your help.
That nasty warning appears every time you try to disable ANY app, not just this one, and I've disabled a bunch of default bloatwares without any side effect. So you can just go ahead and disable it. As for the downloaded update, I would suggest using a file manager to list all files in the internal storage and sort by size, it would likely be the biggest file.
Thanks for the advice, Master 619. I tried using a file manager, as you suggested, but the file is not showing up. I'm pretty sure it's because my device isn't rooted and that file is in a protected area so I can't get to it. I'm figuring that I'm just going to have to do a master reset and then disable the "System Update" application.
I am having some issues with the G9 I am working with. I have root using the latest Magisk. But every time a "security update" installs and reboots the phone, I lose root. So I go back into fastboot and reflash the boot img. That solves the problem. But it is a minor nuisance I am trying to workaround. I have tried searching for days, trying to figure out how to STOP system updates. I installed a root service disabler and disabled a few different services.
I still cannot seem to figure out what service is downloading updates. I have already gone into Developer Options and disabled automatic updates. And there was an update waiting that I kept paused. Last night I got the popup reminding me about it. And it was supposed to "remind me later". But instead installed it in the middle of the night.
I could care less about opinions on whether or not to allow updates. I would just like to know what service or file I need to cripple to get it to stop. I want to decide if or when something runs on my phone. Any ideas? Android 9.
And you will lose root after update, it's normal

If you are using a G9, not a G9 Pro, could you please link me to the stuff to root it?
