By default, the Note connects to PC/OSX as an MTP device. While not an issue on the PC with the correct drivers, on OSX it seems I'm unable to browse the storage. I couldn't figure out how to mount the Note as a usb storage device - is this possible?
It's a little unintuitive, but first you have to have the phone unplugged via USB. Go to settings, then Wireless. Then you go to USB utilities. Then press "Connect Storage to PC", and THEN plug in the cable.
I thought this was strange. But whatever. Took me like 12 hours to find the USB mount option.

Wow, yeah. Thanks!

This only works with ICS devices, but I tried it anyway and it crashes with the Gnote connected, it works fine with my Transformer Prime.

Not true, that's for Honeycomb and ICS, Android File Transfer doesn't see the Galaxy Note.
So glad I found this thread, I'm a "Power User" and was going insane that I couldn't get the damn thing connected

Been trying this over and over and my Note still won't mount to a Mac running 10.7.3. Tried going into USB Debugging mode but it won't let you have that on and a USB connection at the same time.
Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Thank you, I'm glad I searched here. I just got my Gnote and, I'm excited getting it set up. I can tell already I'm going to like this phone.
I'm having similar problems but on PC (Windows 7 x64). When I plug my Note into my laptop it beeps and charges, but will not mount as MTP or USB. It worked fine until today.
I've tried using different usb cables, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the usb drivers and kies, tried factory resetting my Note. I've tried on multiple computers and it won't recognize on any of them. I've tried all the suggestions in the previous posts in this thread. Nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions are appreciated. My Note is on Rogers, stock, not rooted.

I am experiencing similar issues as Tmcquake. When I plug my Note into my laptop or any other pc it beeps to notify me that it’s charging but the pc does not show my G-Note as a connected device. When I first got my Note I would just plug it in to a pc and the pc would detect it without any further actions. The last time it functioned correctly I transferred about 800 of music to the phone. The next time I connected the device to the pc it was not detected. I then unplugged the phone and followed these steps: settings>wireless & network> USB Utilities> connect storage to pc> plugged phone in. No dice; the phone is still not connected. What is going on here? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all,
My roommate recently bought a Galaxy Tablet 10.1 and it just now wont connect to the computer.
When the device is plugged into the computer (we tried both a mac and a pc with updated kies mini installed on both) and the tablet says USB is connected, but it doesn't show up on the pc.
Any ideas?
We had it connected earlier in the day, and know it won't work. I'm puzzled.
I've got an infuse, but i've never had anything like this happen before.
Try going into settings> applications> development and tick or un-tick usb debugging. Might have to try both settings plugging and unplugging from the computer to finally get it to come up. Give it a couple minutes between each to be sure its going to see it or not.
This has worked for me in the past when something changes and I don't know what. Also re-installing the drivers on the computer has helped before for some reason. I'm using Windows7 so YMMV.
Let us know what helps.

Are you stating it's not showing up as a storage drive in Windows when using USB, or are you stating KIES cannot see the tablet (or both)? If Kies, welcome to the club - you are far from alone. I know of no known solution (that topic has been beaten to death on all forums). Togling the USB dedub option may help with respect to Windows seeing it as a storage drive (try another USB port, too), but with respect to Kies, if you find a solution (that you can duplicate) please share. The only way I've ever been able to get Kies to work twice on the same computer was to reset the tablet back to factory defaults - at which point, I can connect VIA Kies one more time, then back to square one.
Good luck!

Kies see's the device, but wont connect. Windows doesn't see if as a USB device.
We tried toggling the USB Debugging switch to no avail.
On my infuse when i plug it into my laptop i have to go to the notification window, click on the usb connected notification, and then select mass storage mode.
We get the notification on the tab, but when i click on it nothing happens...

nothing is supposed to happen. it uses MTP not mass storage. On your laptop, go to "Computer"...it should be there under a portable media device.
if that doesn't work....make sure USB debugging is UNCHECKED...it will NOT work with it checked.
If all that doesn't work..try another USB port
I believe the issue is on a windows machine it usually pops up a box where you can select what you want to do. Such as open folder to view files, etc... and this isn't happening. Probably wrong in my thinking but who knows.

Ezcats Re: Nothing should happen.
This is not entirely accurate. My experience parallels Benzoman's statement. Each and everytime I connect my 10.1 4G (GT-7500D), Windows does indeed open a box asking what I'd like to do with it. It does show up under Computer as a device, and I can readily access it to copy files (however, Kies won't connect... Kies recognized that fact that I plugged it in, and attempts to connect, but never does - again, unless I reset it to factory in which case Kies not only finds it, but will connect to it - once).

This started happening a few weeks ago. Randomly I think. It used to work just fine. It can still charge, but I can't connect storage. I tried using Samsung Kies...that didn't do anything. I started using WiFi File Transfer to get past the issue of not being able to copy files over and decided to deal with it. But now I want to flash the stock rom using Odin but I can't because my device doesn't come up in Odin because it's not recognized by my computer. I want the stock rom because I remember my music would play without any skips, and now it skips sometimes. I'm not sure if it's from using a different rom or a different kernel, or something else, but it didn't used to be like that. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I'm thinking it might be my USB cable, because sometimes it won't even be charging when I plug it in, and I have to plug it in again or wiggle the plug a little for it just to charge. And sometimes I have to be sure not to touch the USB cable or else it will become unplugged. Could this be a USB cable problem, or is there something I can do about it so that it's recognized?
In case this information is important, here:

Model number:
YP-G70
Firmware version:
2.3.5
Kernel version:
2.6.35.7-G70UEKI8-CL566269
[email protected] #111
Build number:
GINGERBREAD.UEKI8
---
I can't remember the name of the rom I'm currently using, but the name of the zip I used to install it in CWM is "update-cm-7.2.0-RC0-YP_G70_USA-KANG-signed.zip" and I'm using Entropy's kernel (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445840)
That's exactly what I do to charge!!! I have to put it in very slowly or wiggle it in and it works, I do that same thing for using USB storage and it doesn't work for you?
It's nice to know I'm not the only one. No it doesn't, it's worked 2 times before but it disconnected shortly after. That was when I first started having this problem though. Now no matter what I do I can't get the storage to come up.

Try a different USB cord.
If it isn't the cord, its probably a driver issue. I wrote up a solution (that worked for me) a little while ago. It's at the bottom of the page

PS I'm also assuming that you have the latest version of Kies on your computer. I'm not wholly sure if it's relevant, though.

I'll be able to try another cable tommorow. I had USB dubugging checked so I unchecked it and that didn't work. Then I updated Kies and that didn't work. So then I uninstalled my "Unknown Device" in Device Manager and plugged it back in to install it, just to get an unknown device appear there again. Anything else I can try before I'm able to use another cable?

Have you tried deleting/uninstalling the device driver, and then reinstalling it. This has happened to me and when I did that it recognized it fine.
ok. this is probably the long version (and very fuzzy, since its been a month or so since I've fixed mine), as this will be based upon my experience but...
right click where the message box pops up. click properties (or something similar) note what it says.
make sure u have kies (the newest version) check for updates.[admittedly, this step might not be necessary, but I performed it on mine. I'm assuming that the update includes new drivers, including the one for USB; it didn't seem to do much tho...hm]
remove all USB devices except for your player. go to device manager, expand the options for "Univ. Ser. Bus Controllers", right click and go to properties, note the device status, and uninstall the drivers (for both USB Composite and the one with the Android). remove the player.
reconnect the player. (i went into kies and had it detect/troubleshoot. i don't think it did much, but who knows. try it if you want)
when you reconnect, that pop-up box I told you about earlier in this post should show some action. right-click and check properties. if yours is like mine, the drivers will install except for the one concerning MTP (mass transfer protocol).
[i repeated this step a few times. i dont think it's necessary, though]
go back to device manager and enter "properties" for the Android device. check "device status". if there is an option to repair, click it. (again, have your device's USB settings set to "mass transfer protocol", unless you try the kies step.) "driver details" under the "drivers" tab might also be worth a looksie if nothing's sticking at that point.
sorry for the lack of detail; again, it's been a while. these are the steps I took to resolve the USB issue with my device. I hope it'll help.

Good to hear.
USB cables have separate pins for data and power (with possibly one pin that has both; it's been a while since I've researched this). One probably fowled up or something.
Most cables should be fine, though one I tried was too "sticky" ie the hooks docking the USB into the port didn't quite match and latched onto the USB port in the SGP. I got it out with some care, but I wouldn't use it again. Test them out. Some folks say that the Samsung products are somewhat proprietary w/r/t USB cables, in that they mix the order of the pins up. I haven't found that to be the case though, personally speaking, though I haven't tried too many.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem with my phone. When I reset the phone, it'll connect to the PC but as soon as the phone updates from my Google account, the phone won't connect to the PC anymore. I tried replacing the phone and same thing. There's something with my Google account. I tried checking all syncing settings and even turned off all syncing. Nothing.
That is such a pain in the ass. If you find a solution please tell me.
I'm thinking about doing a factory reset but I'm afraid the same thing will happen as you.
It doesn't work in Ubuntu as well as Windows btw
Does the USB icon appear in the system tray when you plug it in?
If so, make sure you have it in Camera mode instead of MTP.
If it works, the way I got it to recognize the phone was when my computer failed installing the drivers, I set it to locate the recommended drivers from the internet automatically. I'm on Win7 32 bit as well.

Thanks for that. I was having issues with getting my S3 recognised by PC. Now it's working great.
Hi,
Need help. I used to be able to transfer file via my windows or mac, plug in the usb cable, got the usb debug notification shows up on my phone, pull down the notification, I can choose MTP or Mass Storage.
Then one day, it just decided not to work anymore, I can no longer see those usb debug option. Everytime I plug in my USB cable. I have also tried different sort of usb cable even the original motorola usb cable, but nothing works.
Weird thing is when I plug the phone, nothing happened, then I unplug and plug it back, it will start charging, but still no usb debug options. I also cannot hear any sounds in windows when I plug in the usb.
Please, any idea, tips or does anyone ever experienced this before and know what's the solution?

Hi,
Thanks much!

I think I got the latest motorola drivers from here https://motorola-global-portal.cust...can-i-download-the-usb-drivers-for-my-device?
Tried usb2.0 still nothing. I remember last time when I plug in my razr, motocast wil automatically pop up, but this time, nothing
Update, it seems to get detected when I plug it in on PC that is running XP. This is getting weirder...
The Stock ICS Final i'm running works flawlessly with the usb connection, but various custom ROM's i've tried can't mount either Internal SD or External SD. Turning off USB debugging mounts the internal memory on some ROM's, but only with read rights.
There are quite a few people with this problem, and despite searching everywhere i haven't found an proper answer as to why this happens.
agree.. i saw a lot of people having the same issue but most solved it by using moto original cable but doesn't work for me sadly.
is there a log in the system itself? something like a logcat that i can take a look?

weird thing happened again, but this time it's a good thing. Out of nowhere, now it decided to work again even when I'm not using the original cable. this is just getting weirder and weirder. Anyway thanks everyone for the help
Mine dose the same sometimes it works and other times it don't.

Did you try other Micro-USB cables? Maybe yours is screwed.
I highly recommend this program. OSP (On Screen Phone). You can control everything on the phone on your computer through USB, wifi or bluetooth.

Ok, but what about when the screen of your phone turns off? I was floored to find you can't turn it back on over WiFi!
Also, I so wish I got white!!!!
I have no problems turning the phone off or on. Double click with mouse works for me. I can write with the keyboard on my computer for textmessages and stuff. Brilliant to use on work since everyone thinks I'm working while I'm surfing instead. The mouse works fine for games like Flappy bird as well.

There is a power button in the program to turn on your phone screen.

This is correct, its only for turning the screen off, that the double-clicking works.

I find it strange that LG doesnt advertise this feature at all.. As I find the feature truly awesome and useful. Just hope they update it and improve it.
Btw, anyone having trouble connecting with bluetooth ?

Tell me more. What other drivers do you mean? Do you have lists of the drivers you think will not work with it?

Strange indeed as it is nothing new for LG. I had that same feature on my LG optimus 3d two years ago.

Not everyone knew about this. If I did I would have switched to LG a long time ago.
Its still an awesome feature, that makes it look like im working while im actually jacking around on my phone.
Hope they improve it, and make it more easy with wifi and bluetooth.
this isint available on sprint version
Did anyone get it to work via WiFi?
My PC is connected to a switch, switch is connected to router.
LG G2 is connected to the WLAN of the same router.
OSP and PC Suite both dont find my G2. Do I have to enable portforwarding for some ports? oO
