[Q] Baseband version - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys,
i've tried few other roms, XXLPH recently and it changed my Baseband to XXLPH. i recovered my phone back to original Stock ROM 2.3.5 (XWKJ1) where my baseband was XXKI4, everything is like it was before except the baseband, which is still XXLPH. is it possible to somehow flash only the baseband without wipeing the phone with stock rom via Odin ? everything seems to be working so do I even need to flash it ? also, I don't really understand what that Baseband does.
thank you

Most of the ROMs don't include a baseband / modem / radio, so you can flash what you want separately. If you cand find an Odin flashable modem file, then you can change only that, without any other modifications. There are also CWM flashable ones, which is much easier than with Odin.

ok, got it.. so the question is, do I need to change it back to KI4 if everything is working with LPH (and my battery seems to live longer with LPH) although LPH is for ICS 4.0.3 and KI4 is for GB 2.3.5 which i have now ? thanks
//and where can I get these ? in Odin it is Modem button right ? and in CWM it is update.zip, so I just need my XXKI4, any ideas ? thanks

If it works leave it .
Modem files are in the Modem thread in dev section .

ok, i found them.. but the second question please

You are right . In odin it's the "modem".And in CWM it's a ZIP file(whether it's name is Update doesn't matter)

thank you all

[Q] GPS Does not work after flashing various ROMS

Hi there - I am very new to the Galaxy S2 and with playing around with ROMS
My phone works great with the stock ROM installed from Telecom New Zealand - no problems with GPS.
However, when i flash various roms such as Batista70 Foxhound 2.0 or AlienROM kh3, my navigation cannot pick up my location.
I'll flash back to my stock Telecom NZ rom - works fine
I though perhaps it could be a Modem issue - so when i look on the baseband version of the Telecom ROM it says xxkh1. So I've downloaded this modem bin and flashed through odin - No fix
I'm currently on the Batista70 Foxhound 2.0 ROM and would like to get GPS working on that
Any help would be very much appreciated - cheers
So are you using Batista Foxhound 2.0 with XXKH1 baseband but still unable to get a GPS fix? Or your baseband is still on KI3?
The modem file you flash through Odin have to be in .md5 format just in case you might flashed the wrong file.

After flashing with KI3

Hi,
Recently i've updated my SGS2 to the latest via Kies having the below version
Check using *#1234#
PDA: DXKI2
PHONE: DXKI1
CSC: XXKH1
Gingerbread 2.3.3
After that i've downloaded the stock firmware of XXKI3 from Intratech cause i want to use 2.3.5. And flash it via odin. Now when i check my setting, its reflected as the same above.
However when i go to settings, the kernel version change to XXKI3. And still Gingerbread 2.3.3.
I need advise what i did wrongly.
Thanks in advance

It seems that you downloaded and flashed a file that contained only the kernel and not the entire firmware. Their are two download links, one for the full firmware package and one for the stock kernel.
a kernel is different from a firmware.

I think I only flash the kernel. I'm now downloading the full firmware on XXKI3. So just to confirm that I should be flashing the full firmware of XXKI3 in order to get Gingerbread 2.3.5?
Thanks

Yes.full firmware is something 200+mb and kernel file is only 5+mb.
Be careful what version of ki3 you are going to flash
The original one has the new bootloader and you can not reset the counter with jig

How to see whether its the original firmware with the new bootloader?
I got the one from intratech on version XXKI3. Is that the new original?

[Q] Rooting a KK3 with a root KK5 kernel?

First of all, thanks for reading this post.
I have a I9000 Samsung S2 here in Chile, with Entel Carrier and a 2.3.6 Android version, kernel KK3.
The problem is, I can't find a root KK3 kernel for it.
Also, I couldn't find an answer, if it's possible to use a KK2 or a KK5 instead of it.
Please anyone could solve this questions?
Thanks, once again.
maybe flash yourself a KK5 firmware? then you could go for KK5 cf-root

So, if I am right, I should install a stock kk5 kernel and then go for the cf-root?
I mean, are they compatible, right?

flash the whole stock rom (pda, csc, modem, kernel)
I flashed a KJ3 kernel on my KJ4 rom, so you should be OK just flashing the KK2 kernel

mmm thanks....
So, the question now is kk2 or kk5?
Well, I took my chances and tried with KK5... Success!!
I'll post if I find some troubles

[Q] How to change baseband?

Bought an S2 today. Its a UK Orange phone.
Here's what I did.
Installed an insecure BVKE2 using Odin (original fw was same)
Rooted it, then installed CWM
Installed HyperDroid
Now when the phone booted, it has the HyperDroid rom. However, the baseband still shows the old BVKE2 version.
Does that matter? How do I change that to a newer version? Will I lose root if I flash some firmware via Odin?
Please give a detailed reply

The baseband of your phone is nothing but the modem or the software that communicates with the network. It is usually flashed separately from the ROM unless it is part of the CWM update file.
All modems work differently with networks and you will need to figure out which one is best for your needs. Certain ROM's such as CheckROM come with kitchen apps that allow you to download and apply modems from within the ROM.
Check this link for more info.
Cheers!
Thanks a lot man So I am just gonna flash a new modem and that baseband will change, right?

Just wondering if it's possible to extract the modem from the firmware and flash it with Odin or mobile Odin?
I was also wondering, I made a nandroid backup of my original 4.1.2 ROM the only problem is it's on the new baseband which I don't have, will it cause any no baseband errors? Please help!!!???

Yu can pull a modem and flash it .
Or download a cwm zip modem and replace the modem inside .
RIL possibly use GetRil from the market .
